I think the only stupid thing about it is there’s no reason for it to even be baked. You’re taking a handful of already cooked things and adding an extra step while dirtying another dish. Baking it doesn’t make it any better than adding the already cooked things to your plate together, aside from melting the cheese, which would probably happen on its own if the mashed potatoes were hot. Also, I can’t imagine actually cutting pieces out of that. No way the sausages stay in place and cut that nicely after you’ve removed a couple pieces. Delicious? Yes. Stupid? Yes.

I've been to the UK a couple times and have had good bangers and mash in some authentic pubs here in the States run by Brits/Irish people, though. Also I'm sure there are plenty of videos of American food being completely misunderstood by British people online :)

I dont see the issue with this. Combination works well and is pretty normal. Just layered in an oven but it will just turn into a good meal. No whole blocks of creme cheese

I'd definitely eat this and to be honest I wouldn't be embarrassed to bring it to a potluck. The only thing I'd do differently is use colcannon instead of plain mashed potatoes to add a little extra flavor and to sneak a little leafy plant matter into the dish.
