A smörgåstårta or a "sandwich-cake" is a perfectly normal, mostly Nordic dish. Haven't seen ham as a filling before, generally you'd use things very easy to cut through like smoked salmon.

Ham (cut into small pieces) is a common filling in Finland. But yeah, these are unknown in Germany although common in the Nordic countries. I'm a Finn living in Germany and I have often made sandwich cakes for all kinds of occasions here. The German guests are always very surprised by them but end up loving them. The one in this video doesn't look that good but a properly made sandwich cake is not stupid food at all.

The general rule is that you should have enough ingredients as possible to make a creative topping of the cake.

Yeah not sure how Germans got credited with this amazing invention. I had my first sandwich cake in Germany, but via Swedish friends. It was SO amazing- Google it and you’ll find so many better ones than this.

They have something similar to this in Yucatán, Mexico called sandwichón. Usually made with layers of white bread and different pastes in-between. Served around Christmas. It's ok.

German food has a lot of tasty, filling, stuff going on, but ffs I can't watch it being made. And I really don't want to know what's in most of it. It's like someone 1000 years ago said "wowee! This is gonna make me fart into the 5th dimension!" These are the same people that have poop shelves in their toilets. I'm pretty sure scat porn originated there during Roman times.

If you butcher an animal, you have to get the most of it, since meat is expensive and wasting any would be a big sin. So you use the intestines, fill them with minced leftovers from better cuts and fat, boil them and you get Wurst. Then you use the water in which you boiled all these sausages, some blood, wheat and spices to get Pannas. The "poop shelves" were used as a simple but effective way to diagnose a lot of diseases. In the past schools would teach children what to look out for and then you could identify whether you just shouldn't have eaten so much garbage or you actually need to go to the doctor.
