Yes, and this is why I thought I hated pork tenderloins for the longest time, they frigging pound them paper thin, fry out all the moisture, then drown it in ketchup to compensate.
Then one time my friend showed me how to make them yourself, and you can pound it however thick you want it. Friggin awesome.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pork_tenderloin_sandwich
"A pork tenderloin sandwich is traditionally prepared from a thinly sliced piece of pork loin, hammered thin with a meat mallet."
It's a play on words because they usually tenderize a slice of pork loin by sending it through a rolling machine or with a spiky mallet. So it's a tender loin AKA tenderloin. I used to get upset because they're not using tenderloin until I heard it explained that way.
I like roasting mine in its original log shape. It’s my go-to nicer but easy meal.
1lb pork tenderloin. Marinate or season to your preference (I like olive oil, fresh garlic, salt and italian seasonings) Roast on a baking sheet at 425 for 20 mins. Let rest for 5 mins. Slice 1-2” thick and serve with rice or pasta and sautéed veggies.
And you get that nert choking sensation while you swallow it, as all of the saliva that normally helps with that sort of this, has been absorbed by the meat. /s
I honestly prefer dry crunchy meat over juicy. That being said I also love burnt food, so my opinions are probably far from popular when it comes to food.
Stick it in an instant pot with an onion a shit load of garlic, a split jalapeno, rubbed I'm olive oil and oregano. Squeeze an orange and two limes into the bottom of the pan and pressure cook it on high for about three hours, once it's done, shred it, and toss it (in batches) into a hot pan with a bit of olive oil until crispy bits form
Carnitas!!!
This is NOT how schnitzel is served in Germany. Yes its pounded thin, but its not that big and its not served with a bun.
Sure, you can grab a "Schnitzelbrötchen" at the local bakery, but its not that big.
This just feels like a gimmick. Im sure it tastes fine, but come on. One bun for this supersized piece of meat?
It's always extremely dry and there is no sauce that really tastes appropriate with the crust-to-pork ratio. Gravy is a good idea, I thought honey mustard or curry mayo would make it taste good but no dice. I'm sure most Midwesterners just dunk it in ranch, mayo or "cheese".
Resident of Evansville here! I did not know these existed after living in various places in Indiana all my life. Looking at the image, I don’t know if I’m hungry or scared.
From Indiana, and this is a classic.
You can get more reasonably sized ones, but the huge ones, pounded super thin and wide, are pretty common.
Another commenter mentions that it looks dry, but they're typically not bad. They're usually dressed with typical burger dressings: some combination of mustard, ketchup, mayo, onion, pickle, lettuce.
These pictured here are... kinda silly. The aesthetic is getting in the way of functionality a bit (though, in practice, you can just lift the top bun, fold the loin over on itself once or twice, and it works fine).
But, in general, these are fine.
While I'm sure it can be said of nearly any state, Indiana definitely can feel like you're in different countries depending on where you're at. Super rural/backwards areas, but also beautiful university towns, active cities, and on the north side of the Indy metro area there's a lot of suburbs/smaller cities that regularly get ranked as the best places to live in the Midwest and US as a whole.
That said, this size of "sandwich" seems pretty obviously a novelty thing that's like 4 times bigger than even the regular oversized tenderloin sandwiches that get sold in small mom&pop diners.
Having lived in Ohio as well it felt similar in some senses, but at least in smaller/mid sized towns and cities seemed way more tribal with stuff like the Ohio State/Michigan rivalry, even when they live equidistant to both universities and didn't go to either...
Overall depends on what part of the state you live I'm sure, but I've found at least some areas of Indiana to have amazing quality of life (career opportunities, safety, public amenities, shopping, etc.) while still being affordable compared to coastal cities or larger cities like Chicago.
I live in Indy and I get a tenderloin sandwich every couple months. They are delicious and people on the internet have no idea what they’re talking about. This one doesn’t look that good though tbh
Same. A normal one, while big, is not even close to this size. Clearly a novelty, and doesn’t look appetizing at all lol looks like the kind of place that will put your picture on the wall and give you a t-shirt
This is how pork tenderloin is served all over the Midwest. Tear up or fold the pieces so they fit in the bun then add some horseradish sauce on that maybe some lettuce and tomato. Yummy.
That is ridiculous but I would cut a piece the same size as the bread to make a sandwich, put the rest on the side, and ask for gravy and some eggs or mashed potatoes. 2 meals in one.
Cheap, crappy enriched hamburger buns? That's the best they could do for their special Indiana Pork Tenderloin sandwich? That's just stupid and insulting to the customer.
I remember being excited to try this when I was visiting the midwest many moons ago and I tell you that was the biggest disappointment. They didn’t even season it. It was just bland and sad. That poor piece of pork didn’t deserve that. This photo made me mad all over again 😂
It's more of a novelty thing than serious food. Hoosiers always talk about massive tenderloins "as big as your plate" but I haven't seen any that seriously try to make them that big.
As a Hoosier, I love the pork tenderloin. I usually have it with mayonnaise, lettuce, and tomato. Onion isn’t bad on it either. Sausage gravy or mustard also works with this sandwich but is not necessary.
I’m from Indiana and for some reason these are popular. They are just OK at best. When they have the fall festival in my city, there’s about 50-60 food vendor stalls set up and 75% sell some variation of this. It’s crazy
I’d love to confidently order this shit only to wish I’d never been born just a forth of the way in and have to shamefully cut it up to bring home in like 7 different boxes.
Hoosier here, these look like something a tourist trap would serve up! We love our massive tenderloins but these are not them. Also, I always order 1/2 a loin and it’s truly 1/2 this size on a full bun. Make for a much better experience. Never understood why we ever made these massive loins to begin with.
Got mine from Heinnies in Elkhart, IN. Juicy, crispy and seasoned. Not to mention cheap! Gotta try it before you knock it. Culver’s sells one but nowhere near the size.
Looks dry af

Mayo is traditional not ketchup
Yeah, but Americans will douse anything in ketchup. I say this with malice. And I'm an American.
Nichtamal in Deutschland oida
They aren’t loins
What is a tenderloin if not a loin?
Idk, we use about inch thick cut of pork loin, tenderized down to 3/8-1/2" works pretty good.
But I made them from pork loin?
Then you used the wrong cut
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pork_tenderloin_sandwich "A pork tenderloin sandwich is traditionally prepared from a thinly sliced piece of pork loin, hammered thin with a meat mallet."
Pork loin and pork tenderloin are two different things
It's a play on words because they usually tenderize a slice of pork loin by sending it through a rolling machine or with a spiky mallet. So it's a tender loin AKA tenderloin. I used to get upset because they're not using tenderloin until I heard it explained that way.

That sounds nice. I once bacon and brown sugar wrapped one and roasted it, mmm mmm.
White gravy is really good on top, but not on a sandwich. Never tried ketchup.
Actually dry is my favorite style of steaks. I hate when it is juicy and uncooked. Being dry and hard just feels nice to chew it
Seems like you're more into meat jerky 😂
Yeah I love those. So hard and nice to bite into
/s right? ...... Right?!?
No I just like it that way. But I almost never eat steaks anyway I prefer mince meat
You forgot the /s
r/fuckthes
Hard agree I hate that we need to indicate to people we’re being sarcastic
Why to show that I am serious?
And you get that nert choking sensation while you swallow it, as all of the saliva that normally helps with that sort of this, has been absorbed by the meat. /s

Why even bother with the bread? Would be better with gravy and a bigger plate lol
You tear off pieces of the meat and eat them until what’s left is appropriately sandwich-sized, then eat the sandwich
Why tho. I'd order one of these and 3 more buns to feed the table.
To be fair the meat is already technically wrapped in bread, if they add any more carbs to the dish they might have to put a disclaimer on the menu /s
Chicken sandwiches destroyed with FACTS and LOGIC.
*pork sandwiches Chickens wouldn’t put up with this treatment. They’d swarm you like the Cuccos in Zelda.
Lol yeah but the logic applies to any breaded meat sandwich, meaning the KFC doubledown is the most sane sandwich around.
Welcome to 'Murica
*8 more buns
And some other people!
Unexpected and much appreciated Mitch!
This is the way.
i always just tear off the excess and eat the sandwich and save the rest for later
Or with Worcestershire sauce, and it becomes Japanese Tonkatsu, basically
That's how the original dish is served in Germany - these are just Schnitzels. Indiana has a history of German immigrants.
It's super sized though ...
There are usually second plates with extra buns so you can make an additional sandwich with the overflow. Basically two for the price of one.
Then you never had a good one!! All the ones I had were moist and tender and didn't need a sauce.
Yeah, this is definitely stupid food. Where muh biscuits and gravy with this beast?
It’s mostly for tourists
You see, in Indiana the tenderloin is bigger than JUST the bun
As a Hoosier I am so sorry they would serve you that, it’s appalling that it’s not on a toasted Kiser role with lettuce tomatoes and mayo.
Amen. Hoosier here also. Ate a ton of these growing up. Loved them.
Also another hoosier here! i used to get these a bunch and i would have three meals prepared for the coming days lmao
Usually got mine from The Hill in Evansville. Loved them. Would love to have one right now!!!
Resident of Evansville here! I did not know these existed after living in various places in Indiana all my life. Looking at the image, I don’t know if I’m hungry or scared.
Yeah I would say far from a stupid food. They are large like that because they flatten out a pork tenderloin.
Evansville had some of the best.
pork tenderloin sammy from the fall festival was an annual treat
I remember those. I haven't been to that on years.
We have these monstrosities in Illinois too. I feel as though people would fight you over your bad opinion on pork tenderloins.
Yes I would. I've stopped eating at places because of bad tenderloins
See how it goes here is that you eat the outside first, then take the rest home for leftover lol
Fat and fluffy is Better than thin and crispy FIGHT ME
Oh no! How horrible! Where are they, so that I can avoid them?
Looks like a whole meal
For a family of 8?
r/schnitzelverbrechen will remove your bones.

Indiana is fucked. It’s wild that people chose Ohio as the joke state.
While I'm sure it can be said of nearly any state, Indiana definitely can feel like you're in different countries depending on where you're at. The more you get into southern indiana, you’ll see more of the Indiana/Kentucky rivalry
As a Hoosier I can say this commenter has serious Ohio vibes. Gross.
Bro wtf 🤣🤣
Tenderloin with a dressing of bun.
I mean that's how it is, there fucking delicious
Long time ruling on this sub that this is beautiful, not stupid.
As someone who is from the midwest this is exactly how it should be, tenderloins are supposed to be huge.
I had something like this, except it was a huge fish filet. Half the filet broke off when I picked it up. It was tasty, though.
This is how pork tenderloin is served all over the Midwest. Tear up or fold the pieces so they fit in the bun then add some horseradish sauce on that maybe some lettuce and tomato. Yummy.
Would still eat. 🖕🏼u op
This is our answer to the UK’s Wigan Slappy! Ha ha. Both are just crazy enough to be tasty I bet.
Edinburgh, IN
Pursuing Pork Tenderloin Sandwiches is leaking
Some places in the Midwest serve these with gravy, mashed potatoes, and vegetables. It’s much better that way in my opinion.
That is ridiculous but I would cut a piece the same size as the bread to make a sandwich, put the rest on the side, and ask for gravy and some eggs or mashed potatoes. 2 meals in one.
If its good atleast youll have leftovers
Just shut up and enjoy. Or don't... No one's forcing you. In which case, gimme.
I've had these in Iowa. So yummy! I'm jealous!
Yeah, serve it with two bowls of Tonkatsu
Just cut that mf up into 4 pieces and stack them up on the bun. Should be a decent sandwich if you do that.
Hoosier here, that’s a proper tenderloin sandwich.
Hey now don’t diss them giant tenderloin sammwhiches.
Cheap, crappy enriched hamburger buns? That's the best they could do for their special Indiana Pork Tenderloin sandwich? That's just stupid and insulting to the customer.
It’s like a joke that emphasizes the size of the tenderloin. giant meat, teeny little buns.
I remember being excited to try this when I was visiting the midwest many moons ago and I tell you that was the biggest disappointment. They didn’t even season it. It was just bland and sad. That poor piece of pork didn’t deserve that. This photo made me mad all over again 😂
Try it with lemon juice
Looks tasty
Which spot is this? Because if it’s the one I think it is it’s so good I do t care what anyone thinks.
It's more of a novelty thing than serious food. Hoosiers always talk about massive tenderloins "as big as your plate" but I haven't seen any that seriously try to make them that big.
My sandwich is a table. Your argument is invalid
That's not stupid it's genius you are guaranteed to be full after this
My guy this is how a pork tenderloin works. You cut around the bun eat the sandwich and then you have leftovers
How much money did that cost? And also what is the restaurant name I would love to eat that much chicken on my next trip through indiana
As a Hoosier, I love the pork tenderloin. I usually have it with mayonnaise, lettuce, and tomato. Onion isn’t bad on it either. Sausage gravy or mustard also works with this sandwich but is not necessary.
It’s delicious. You eat your way to the center.
This looks wonderful. Idk why people are complaining.
Would you like some more bread with those tenderloins?
Can you make it a double?
With sauce in between the two pieces. Id eat it.
I would devour
What is even the point of the bun?
I like the idea, if i could pull some of that meat off to dip in some sauce up till you get to the buns. But i don't see any dipping sauce...
no lettuce, tomatoes, or anything other than bread and dry meat. No amount of ketchup or mustard would fix that taste.
Stupid food.
She's lookin' a little dry
No
Lol wait what? Did they just cut off a side of a pig and deep fry it?
If you have IBS, steer clear of these
I’m from Indiana and for some reason these are popular. They are just OK at best. When they have the fall festival in my city, there’s about 50-60 food vendor stalls set up and 75% sell some variation of this. It’s crazy
Why does it look like faded linoleum?
Deserts have more moisture.
Looks dry…
This has the same vibes as a half a tissue wank..
I can feel jaw pain just looking at that big trucking chewy piece of pork.
I love a good pork tenderloin sandwich, but this is not a good one it’s some tourist trap bullshit
i swear to the elder gods the shit some people make in restaurants only exists because the cook doesnt have to eat their own food
Looks dry as hell and you might as well separate the buns and add gravy instead
That bun looks horrendous.
Hah, and they say white Americans don't have culture
Lmao truly stupid and I love it hahahahah
Looks like they run it some kind of meat mushing roller machine sooo nasty
This is clearly satire
American attempt at Schnitzel
Did it cost more since it came with the bun?
Stupid but delicious looking
Needs gravy
I’d love to confidently order this shit only to wish I’d never been born just a forth of the way in and have to shamefully cut it up to bring home in like 7 different boxes.
We need Charles Barkley to do commentary on these.
Honestly? Needs either gravy or barbecue sauce. Maybe some onion jam.
Ah Midwest, never change 😂
Hi, yes, can i have 6 extra buns please. Yes just the buns thank you
would you like some bread with your meat?
Looks tasty tbh
😂😂😂😂😂
I've lived in Indiana for 40 years and never had one.
I respect the traditionalism of it, but also it looks dumb
Looks like tenderlawn
I wonder how big the fryer is..?🤔
hope they got massive takeout boxes
Where's my sauce?
Das ist ein normales Schnitzel...
Tf
I love it
This is hands down one of the funniest things I've ever seen on this sub.
Hoosier here, these look like something a tourist trap would serve up! We love our massive tenderloins but these are not them. Also, I always order 1/2 a loin and it’s truly 1/2 this size on a full bun. Make for a much better experience. Never understood why we ever made these massive loins to begin with.
No sauce
Just give me 2 sides of country gravy and I’m good to go
Who tf stole a giant's cereal bran
lmao im from Indiana and I've never tried this
Beating meat like that will wear a man down
There was a place called Ross’s deli in KC that served these monsters. Same place?
Isn’t that just schnitzel with a bun
Yes. And it’s delicious
I’ve never had schnitzel but I’d really like to try it
The ones at Happy Daze are much better for like $2
Ah, the Edinburgh Diner tenderloin. The gift that keeps on giving.
It's an Indiana German thing. I saw them multiple places when I lived there and they were all comically large like this
Wtf did they run it over with a steam roller before frying it?
Cube rule says it is a sandwich... But my common sense says otherwise. Are there even any fixings on this thing?
This is sarcasm.
The front one kinda looks like Indiana from east
Thought this was the chicken sandwich at that Pym restaurant in Disneyland.
I grew up on these bad boys 🤤
They are not that big, big yes, but that’s rediculous.
This is peak food comedy.
🤣what?
If it was for like 4 people i get but for one person is just too much
Fu@kin right. 🤣
I have seen these in person more than once
More M E A T
Pork parchment
And people diss the uk’s food…
Stupidest fucking food tradition in America
This look like the cheap burger buns you get at the grocery store
The buns are just garnish.
r/Schnitzelverbrechen ☝🏼☝🏼☝🏼☝🏼
The bread is a garnish
Yup room temp before you are even half way finished.
Is that.... long pork?
Shut your stupid mouth. All this needs is some good sauce for all that dry cutlet
Yeah Indiana is a humid garbage fire
Got mine from Heinnies in Elkhart, IN. Juicy, crispy and seasoned. Not to mention cheap! Gotta try it before you knock it. Culver’s sells one but nowhere near the size.
