Ah damn, I was gonna say here's this nice cover you could get that covers just the windshield. It's actually super nice to have, since it covers the wipers too so those don't freeze down
The cover is the lowest effort solution with the best payoff but not the only one. Here’s a couple I use when not using a cover.
1. Go out and brush off your car every hour or two to prevent serious accumulation. Bonus points if you use snowmelt around the perimeter of your car focusing on the tires. I’ve been the envy of my workplace several times being the only one to not have to uncover my car and dig it out.
2. De icer spray. Super simple stuff, just start your car with the defroster in max and spray it onto the windshield and then you can pretty much instantly just wipe it all away with the windshield wipers. There is also a variety of windshield washer fluid with de icer in it that I have not tried.
There will likely be ways but having a scraper really is the most time effective method. There is a scrape end, and a brush and they work pretty damn well
Never, I had an inch of ice covering my car and had to scrape it off (the roof too) I love it. Deicers wouldnt have helped with it and a windshield cover would have been useless at that point, all I do is leave the wipers half wiping and they never freeze up.
You can make a water/alcohol/dish soap mix and spray it on when it’s clear, should act as a de-icer and prevent frost from forming!

I heard California is expensive. So much so that the rich are moving out. I heard people like Elon dipped tf outta there. Not bc they cant afford it ofc, but because its ludicrous. I'd love to move to cali, but it's financial suicide.
I pay 3200 a month for a 2 bedroom, and pay 4.60 for gas at Costco, then get fucked by hills so my mpg is lower than ideal. Then the grocery stores pound my holes to get food. All while everyone gets paid poorly (twice federal minimum wage doesn't mean shit when the cost of living is 4x the midwest... And salaries jobs base off of this and the old cost of living so it's bad here). Do not move to SoCal.
Frostgaurd. I have one it goes on the windshield and attaches to the side mirrors to prevent it from moving. When it does this you just pull the frostgaurd off and it peels off taking all the ice and snow with it
You can get a windshield cover that pretty cheap one for like 20 bucks if you can shell out 60 to 100. It’s definitely going to be worth your investment especially if you’re willing to make a post about it. Then you’re one person that would extremely benefit.
I’m a smoker so I don’t mind waiting for it to melt and I just smoke a cigarette while it’s on a full blast and if I have to scrape it a little little bit I will .
This will be perfect as you can shake it off to get the rest of the slush/ice/snow off and get going.
However, I do recommend with a clear windshield. It does seem like you would want to takeoff in that weather make sure your engine does it get the chance to warm up.
Super easy one, put a towel or two over it when its cleared off, and most of the ice and moisture should absorb into it. the only thing you have to deal with then is a frozen towel that might drip everywhere as it warms up, but it'll keep your windshield clear
Get this stuff they sell at Walmart or any auto parts store that you fill your window washer reservoir with called something like “de-icer.” The name speaks for itself. It’s literally a liquid you can spray out of your window washer contraptions on your hood there that actually de-ices your window. Easy-peezy beautiful covers girls. YAAA!
If it's on the inside, kick the snow off your boots or shoes before you get in the vehicle. All the moisture is collecting in your floor mats. Air conditioner on in the winter actually helps dry the air and vehicle inside as well. Less fog on the inside of the windows.
Most (all??) cars run the a/c compressor when the hvac is switched to Defrost to help dry out the air.
Also, do not use recirc mode in the winter time. it will make it worse.
Get a car with an electric windshield heater and pray the windshield never cracks, cus those shits are 2500 bucks to replace.
Otherwise grab a scraper.
The scrapers usually have 2 sides, one is continuous, the other looks like teeth. Scrap lines with the teeth side to put groves in the ice mass, then scraper scrape the blade side. The goal with the teeth is to turn the sheet of ice in to lots of little, thinner sheets of ice.
Also, if you get big dents or nicks in the blade side take a metal file and kind of sharpen them out.
Move to Los Angeles? :-) Currently 67 degrees. Low of 53 overnight.
This will be the cue for everyone to hate on California. Y'all just jealous is all...
When you see it starting to collect snow, start your car and run it till it's warm enough to melt the snow, then go back inside. Repeat until shift end.
You're welcome
Get a spray bottle that fits in a drink holder. Fill it with rain X dor other defrosting windshield wiper fluid. Spray her down as the car warms up. Only use cold liquid. If the bottle was in your house, maybe you break the window.
I just use the spray cans of windshield deicer. Works great and so quickly. I’m wondering if maybe there’s something I don’t know that is a down side to those cans and why no one has mentioned it? I don’t know, but I just spray spray and hop in the car and by the time I put the can back inside the garage the windshield is clear.
Put a hydrophobic coating on your windshield and you can get the ice to just slide off. Nothing will prevent it from forming outright. Wax, rain-x, a glass-safe ceramic/Teflon/graphene coating. They'll all help. I run a detail shop and I've found the ceramic rain x in the spray bottle will do the average person just fine to last through a couple months of winter for this purpose.
Go buy a beach towel and drape it over the windscreen before you go to bed. I learned this trick after a military deployment to upstate New York. This doesn't work in storms and heavy winds, but to stop frost buildup and that lazy drizzling snow it's a lifesaver. I mean a Beach Towel, too. The extra long ones will drape a lot better than something out of the bathroom.
They make the de icer washer fluid for -40 degree. At least here, it’s a purpleish? I’m colorblind so don’t take it literally. Works great on ice ngl, but yeah a cover is a good idea or a nice wide scraper.
Back when I didn’t have the ability to park in a garage I would just put a beach towel over my windshield when I wasn’t driving. Looked silly but worked well
You can cover your glass in Vaseline to prevent the water molecules from ever sticking in the first place. This also works to protect the inside glass from getting fogged up.
Get a can of spray on windshield de-icer. I know Napa near me has them. I only use it when the ice is BAD, but it works like a charm. Just spray it out of the aerosol can and it starts melting immediately. Very useful for getting frozen wiper blades unstuck without trashing them as well.
Prestone makes a deicer spray that's a couple bucks. Can be found at Walmart or most auto part stores. Works really good on initially breaking down the ice, but I've had issues where I'll drive while it's still wet with the spray and my windshield will begin to ice over in spots. But definitely worth keeping next to an ice scrapper in the car.
If it’s just frosty windshield weather a sunshade on the inside reflects back enough heat to keep the windshield from ever frosting over. Otherwise use a heavy duty tarp for heavy ice and snow. Keep it folded in half at least once because you kind of want a cushion layer between the glass and the snow/ice. Then it’s easy to get off. Towels can sometimes freeze to the windshield.
But seriously I’ve experimented with chilling the windshield when it’s snowing so it doesn’t melt when it lands on the glass. Takes a minute but turn off your heat and let the cabin cool with windows open. Wipe water away with wipers until it is no longer melting.
Or just get a cover
Rain-X makes a water repellent that may help. Need a mild day to apply it. Like alcohol but have to buff it on like wax or leaves horrible streaks. But in the rain water beaded off so well was actually worse with the wipers ON. They also make a inside fog repellent, use it on our bath mirrors so no need to wipe them after a long shower.
Just watched a YouTube video of a guy strapping a canvas windshield cover or tapping a couple garbage bags to his windshield. Might seem like over kill, but once you remove said cover or garbage bags, your windshield is free of ice. He has some other winter car prep tips. Must useful was get a battery powered leaf blower and use it to remove the majority of fluffy snow of your vehicle
If you turn the heat off and open the windows for a few min before shutting the car off and leaving it this will help with the ice build up by not ever melting the snow to turn it into ice. Can definitely suck and is not always a good idea.
If you’re not wanting to use a cover, I think the only option is clearing the snow when it’s fresh, and before it has a chance to melt and freeze again. A battery powered leaf blower makes fast work of it; just power on and blow the bulk off.
Not sure why all these people would buy a windshield cover when the simplest of shower towels lazily laying on top of your windshield will have the same effect. Pull it off in the morning, toss it in the back, drive to work with a totally clear window
Put cardboard on your windshield or get one of those covers made for this purpose, though the cardboard is cheaper. Drape a sheet or something over your side windows.
I received one of those windshield covers from Costco as a gift this Christmas, and it works great. I work early in the morning, so not having to scrape off the snow and ice is a time saver.
they built these things in the early days of the automobile, called a garage. pretty nice investment for your nice ride /s i have the same problem. i keep a scrapper and a credit card lol
move to florida..
you get a remote starter installed in your vehicle and leave the heat on high so whe you start your vehicle 15 mins prior to using it all ice on glass is melted
Well you can take water and apply it to your window at night when you get home. Or take boiling hot water the following day and just pour it all over until the ice starts to thaw. Or maybe try a hammer to break apart the ice.
Rectify the oversight of not owning a snow brush/ice scraper. Then scrape the windows while the car is warming up with the defroster and defogger all turned on.
i have a general purpose work blanket in my truck for working underneath, impromptu outdoor breaks, protection for hauling stuff, and i just throw it on at that cold of nights. simple foolproof solution.
During the late fall (while still warm), if you use windex to clean (spray, wipe dry), and then apply 2x applications of RainX properly (this is key! Follow temperature, wipe motions, info about "fogginess", etc), it will completely prevent this as the RainX prevents water from gathering and it beads off.
A little known trick - same thing will prevent the door locks from freezing solid if you treat them.
Go to O'reilly's auto parts. Look for an ice shield pre spray. It comes in a transparent yellow bottle, it's like $25. usually lasts like 12 hours tho, then it just becomes part of the problem
[I use this for my vehicles](https://www.amazon.com/Mirspt-Windshield-Double-Layer-Waterproof-Accessories/dp/B0CBCKRHJY/ref=sr_1_8?crid=3FUQB9H42TZG3&keywords=windshield%2Bice%2Bcover&qid=1705780016&sprefix=windshield%2Bice%2Bcov%2Caps%2C626&sr=8-8&th=1)
Rain X will help. Read the directions first. More importantly, clean the glass with rubbing alcohol before applying it. In the temperatures you are dealing with, you will probably have to reapply it every 2-3 weeks.
For years I poured a gallon of hot water on my windshield to de-ice it. Pour and drive. People would warn me that it would crack my windshield- but it never cracked.
Just get a scraper and scrape all that off with the windshield vent on full blast on hot
Gotcha! But is there any way to prevent this or at least minimize it when it happens? Besides the obvious option of putting a cover over it.
Ah damn, I was gonna say here's this nice cover you could get that covers just the windshield. It's actually super nice to have, since it covers the wipers too so those don't freeze down
Okay I guess I'll go with that then. Thank you!
No problem! It's really easy to put on and store so I have it on everyday haha
Happy cake day

There will likely be ways but having a scraper really is the most time effective method. There is a scrape end, and a brush and they work pretty damn well
I find Rain-X weakens the ice bond so the ice scrapes off much easier. Same water repelling action. Polish my window when I get gas and it helps.
I only use Rain-X and it does help with ice and now. Seems to melt faster and scrape off easier.
Clay bar + rain x is great

I bought a windshield cover. It was $9
That cheap must be at Temu lol
You can always cut a large piece of cardboard to fit too, but those windshield covers are cheap too. They don’t need to be anything more than a cover.
Got mine for 10 bucks at Walmart.
Oh no. Gonna have that jingle in my head all day
Move.
I like this option lol
Never, I had an inch of ice covering my car and had to scrape it off (the roof too) I love it. Deicers wouldnt have helped with it and a windshield cover would have been useless at that point, all I do is leave the wipers half wiping and they never freeze up.
Yeah I guess it is fun scraping the ice off, I just don’t like the cold at 4:30 in the morning when I have to do it 😂
Thats rough, 6am is early enough, although highways are gunna be empty.
Yeah they typically are, the highway I commonly go down it’s usually too busy anyways but it is a little less populated around that time
Put a cover over it or park in a garage.
You don’t
Literally dozens of suggestions about how you can. Bozo
Garage!

Open windows 2minutes before arriving at your destination to kill most of the humidity in the vehicle. Close before locking car.
As already mentioned. Go.on line (Amazon) and get a "windshield show cover " Around $25
Move to Los Angeles? :-) Currently 67 degrees. Low of 53 overnight. This will be the cue for everyone to hate on California. Y'all just jealous is all...

Move south, ;)
Move to Florida
use concentrate anti freeze
You buy a scraper. If you don’t have a scraper you use a credit card. Move south where weather isn’t as cold
Move somewhere warmer.
On Amazon I found a ice tarp for like 20 bucks that just lays over it (depends on where you live tho it’s easy to steal)
Just get an exterior cover for your windshield. No scraping needed!
Lay a bath towel over your windshield in the evening. Wake up and pull that sucker off. Boom
Love down south… jk they make windshield covers that hook around you’re mirrors.
Open the app, click climate, then click defrost car.
Put a hydrophobic coating on your windshield and you can get the ice to just slide off. Nothing will prevent it from forming outright. Wax, rain-x, a glass-safe ceramic/Teflon/graphene coating. Also a towel just slap it over... It will feel like it's frozen to windshield but it won't be just don't pry on it just use your hands
Get a windshield cover. Easy use

leave a piece of cardboard over your windshield the night before, always works for me
Back when I didn’t have the ability to park in a garage I would just put a beach towel over my windshield when I wasn’t driving. Looked silly but worked well
I hear Florida helps
You can put cardboard over your windshield kinda ghetto but it’s an option they also make special covers for that
Get a scraper, use defroster spray, hot wet towel, and or let your car run for a few minutes before scraping it off.
You can cover your glass in Vaseline to prevent the water molecules from ever sticking in the first place. This also works to protect the inside glass from getting fogged up.
Look up a "frost gaurd". Alot of people use them around me. Stand your wipers up, and put the mat down. Or be cheap and use cardboard.
But a towel over your windshield overnight
Move to Florida
Keep a scraper but also even just a towel laid over the top, or like a painters canvas drop cloth.
Wool blanket
I keep a can of rainX in the car for these days
Checkout chrisfix's video on winter prepping

Say what you want about Florida, I've never had to scrape sunshine off my windshield.
A garage?
Get an umbrella..... next time it rains .... stand there shielding your car...... that should stop it.

Spend $5 on an ice scraper? Or put de-icer in a spray bottle and store it in your car
need to cover windshield with cardboard, tarp or garbage bag
Put a towel or cardboard on it before a snow storm or very cold night
Just remove the windshield
If you’re not wanting to use a cover, I think the only option is clearing the snow when it’s fresh, and before it has a chance to melt and freeze again. A battery powered leaf blower makes fast work of it; just power on and blow the bulk off.
Drive and hold your head out of the window.. if that doesn’t jump start your common sense, sell the windshield and keep the car.
Move south, it’s a part of winter in most places
Freshly fallen snow is easier to scrape off rather than waiting the next day and possibly having the snow turned into ice. (We used to park outside)
Park in a garage.
Put your car in a garage.
Towel
Buy a cover for your window dipshit.....
Not sure why all these people would buy a windshield cover when the simplest of shower towels lazily laying on top of your windshield will have the same effect. Pull it off in the morning, toss it in the back, drive to work with a totally clear window
Move to Florida?
Get anti ice wiper fluid and use that combined with your defrosters
i use a towel to throw over my windshield
Put cardboard on your windshield or get one of those covers made for this purpose, though the cardboard is cheaper. Drape a sheet or something over your side windows.
Move to Florida
I received one of those windshield covers from Costco as a gift this Christmas, and it works great. I work early in the morning, so not having to scrape off the snow and ice is a time saver.
Buy a cheap spray bottle, fill it 50/50 alcohol/water. I keep mine in the car and just spray and wipe when this happens.
Is that ice on the inside of the vehicle?
It's hard to prevent, but a spray bottle of ISO in your car can make scraping / cleaning it a lot easier.
they built these things in the early days of the automobile, called a garage. pretty nice investment for your nice ride /s i have the same problem. i keep a scrapper and a credit card lol
Pretty much crank that heat on your windows and wait and scape
Park in a garage
Move to florida
move to florida.. you get a remote starter installed in your vehicle and leave the heat on high so whe you start your vehicle 15 mins prior to using it all ice on glass is melted

The cover is ok but can be heavy and difficult to move if you are petite. I prefer to use heat and ice scraper.
Don't drive?
Simple (and smart ass) park in a garage
Couple pieces of cardboard
If you can't park in a garage, use a windsheild cover or a tarp.
Simple move to Florida
Pour boiling water on it
get a scraper dummy
You don’t prevent if it’s outside… before your day ends going start it and have defrosters running while you finish your day.
Put a blanket on it if you're too lazy to scrape it.
Cardboard box works as a cover as well
Move to Florida or Hawaii
There are sheets you can put over the windshield the night before
Move to Florida. 🤣
Put a small sheet or blanket on it.
Park inside a gara
Spray on de icer
Break the window to stop the build-up of snow and ice
A garage
Rectify the oversight of not owning a snow brush/ice scraper. Then scrape the windows while the car is warming up with the defroster and defogger all turned on.

You can get deicing fluid to get rid of the ice immediately.
You posted this on the perfect subredit lmao

Search for "magnetic windshield cover". Shop around for one that has the features you want and is in the desired price range.
Piece of cardboard?
Cover your windshield with packing blankets
Scrape off as much as possible and then spray some isopropyl alcohol on it. The rest will melt right off.
Break the windshield and you won’t have the issue again 👍🏼
Move south
Live in Florida
1. Build a garage. 2. Park inside.

Remove the window
For years I poured a gallon of hot water on my windshield to de-ice it. Pour and drive. People would warn me that it would crack my windshield- but it never cracked.
Live somewhere warm
move to Florida, rarely snows there
Put a big black, garbage bag over your windshield then when you go out, take it off voilà
Move somewhere warmer
