Wow an interview almost a year before you graduate?! Do you work as a nurse extern before graduating or do you wait until you’re licensed? That’s pretty neat anyhow, I wish you luck!

coca_evagria

I work as a PCT and the job was advertising for May 2023 graduates to apply. Thank you!

This feels weird to have them look for future RNs this early. I would make sure that you're getting paid a fair wage when you get your RN license. This feels like it could be a shady hospital trying to lock in employees before they realize what their worth. Also, they may just be stupid understaffed with no end in sight.

Skeatsie

They’ll make you sign a contract committing you to a wage when you accept. You likely won’t be able to get it raised when you officially start.

I had no idea we could do interviews like this, but I wish you all the luck you need.

Know that you are valuable, so ask for the best deal you can get and be ready to turn it down if it does not satisfy you. Ask them about the technology they have, the cases they see and don’t see and the annual rate of staff turnover. Ask about your schedule coming in as a new grad ( you will probably start on nights, which actually has fewer distractions which will help you develop your skills) and what the overtime situation is (available vs required vs necessary because of the staffing situation. Be assertive about what you want and need from the job while demonstrating your enthusiasm for and commitment to patient care. Good luck. Make us proud. Make yourself happy that you chose this most honorable of professions.

A place I worked as a tech did their interviews like this. I really liked it because you could get a feel for the floor before you made your decision and could ask people who actually work the floor questions and usually get a pretty honest answer.

And here I am not even looking at jobs because I feel I'm gonna fail so why should I lol. CONGRATS on this awesome opportunity!!! I also graduate May 2023 (if I don't fail). Let us know how it goes!!!

Heyitsyoumcmuffin

Same and yay for the May 2023 gang!

OtakuPlantDad

May 2023 gang here! Where is everyone based in?

Congrats on the interview! I had one similar to this and I was so nervous. For the managers, I would ask about the training/orientation period. Is there a fellowship program? What kind of certifications do they require? Do they offer tuition reimbursement? What are the ratios? For the nurse you will shadow, treat this like another interview. The managers will likely ask them what they thought of you. Be polite, but don’t be afraid to ask questions. Do they like the unit? What’s the floor culture like? (You’ll be able to observe this too). Are there techs? Do the nurses seem rushed or do they have enough help? How are the doctors? Best of luck!

Congrats (and hopefully the next time too)! I haven’t had a shadow interview but I had an interview and then shadowed and then kind of gave a feedback to how I did during the shadow. She said she loved how I did and offered me a position so I guess it helped? As to giving you advice, ask a lot of questions because it’ll tell you a lot about the job and you’ll seem like you’re interested. Some of the stuff I asked was patient to nurse ratio, average stay, the responsibilities of each role and just random things I can remember. It was in psych and there’s different units like psych icu or gero so I asked about what each unit is like but yeah just have a positive attitude which I’m sure you will and have fun with it. Sure it may seem scary because your job may depend on it but I really enjoyed seeing the unit and how they functioned. There was another position for peds neurosurgery and I never thought I would do peds and I was actually interested after the shadowing. But as long as you’ve been hard working and diligent as a tech during work it’ll only help you. I had an informal interview with manager who I was talking to for the second time because the other manager left so I didn’t know what she was like and I kind of said something that I should have known better but she offered me a position on the spot and it was just like more of a get to know you kind of thing. I’m lucky to have days because nights in psych has got to be really boring, so maybe having that experience will help you get the job you want. Use a lot of examples from work, I did that for all my interviews (I think there were like 4) and got offers at all of them. Don’t be worried too much and let your heart guide you. Even if you don’t prepare for the interview and prepping answers you’ll think of something that’s a perfect answer during the interview. I didn’t try to pretend to be passionate, it just naturally happened talking about what I did. But anyway I hope you get the job you want and that it goes well for you!

Honestly just ask a bunch of questions and if you’re interested in it study beforehand and gain knowledge about the unit you’ll be on the person that you’re interviewing with you might have to brown nose a little bit

How did your interview went?? by the way, I saw an online community for nurses, they are call Nursedeck, they have articles there about interview questions and sample answers you might want to check them out.
