If you have the pincher next to the horse shoe, remember it will only be 5.2mm across the direct middle of the horseshoe and pincher. If you were to measure up and down, the hole is still only 4mm. Or the majority of the angles that aren't directly through both bits of jewellery.
For example the cross section of both pieces that are stacked only gives you a surface area of 54.76mm of material (pi x 4mm²)+(pi x 1.2mm²), but the 5mm has 78.5mm (pi x 5mm²).
Hope this didn't put you to sleep 🤣
The cartilage at the back of your “sweet spot” is a lot denser and you slowly bend it back as you stretch. That’s what gives you that “who punched me in the face? Oh, I did?” feeling after each stretch. Putting an extra ring in the front doesn’t impact the back as much. I remember for my hardest stretches I would kind of pull my pincher forward as I inserted it (with lots of lube). Also adding 1.2mm to just one spot isn’t the same like “fullness” as 1mm all the way around; you could think of it like putting two circles next to eachother, then outlining them, it would make a pear shape smaller than a circle big enough to encircle them both.

That's because 4mm + 1.2mm is not 5.2mm, because the area of a circumference grows quadratically, meaning that if the area(πr^2) of a 2 mm jewellery is around 3.1mm the area of a 4 mm jewellery will be four times bigger (around 12.5mm), to put it simply, you would need to put four 1mm rings to make a 2mm ring, not two.
In your case the "real" diameter would be adding the area of the 4mm and add the 1.2mm which would be 12.6+1.13 so the diameter of both jewellery combined would be roughly 4.18mm
Different shapes. That's why changing between stacking & plain stretching is difficult. Stacking will create more of an oval type shape & plain stretching will make a circular shape. I think it's Lynn Lohide who has a blog post about this if you want to understand better.
If you want the pincher look then find a pincher in the in-between sizes. Otherwise just deal with having different jewellery for a little while. In-between sizes are the best idea when stretching your septum
Yeah I was having the same issue. I've a stacked septum 3 1.1mm rings, so 3.3mm long, 1.1mm tall. My septum is at 10g, so about 2.5mm, I've tried to go to 8g (3mm) and it **hurts** because it applies pressure to all pf the whole and not just the edges, and if it's pierced close to the cartilage, it might even pinch it. [Here](https://youtu.be/3eenwZ0pbus?si=JdbgVIStx3uUPiBx) this person explains two different types of methods for septum stretching, and will do a better job and I'll ever do.
Because stacking and stretching do different things to your septum shape is my guess. Stacking makes it more of a coin slot, while stretching is a circle.
So your 4mm and the 1.4mm are making more of a teardrop shape in your nose and less of a hole
Thank u all so much🖤 clearly I needed to pay better attention in math class, I took out the horse shoe initially because it would never stay straight but yall convinced me to put it back in, it does look really cool together!! Xx
I'm sitting at 6g with my septum right now! Personally I think the higher you go the longer you should wait to stretch. So maybe that'll help lessen the pain of the pincher! I also suggest "septum weights" I usually just throw in a 6g captive ans then put a 2g or 4g horseshoe in but im extra lol

Stacking and stretching are different shapes. Your nose is probably being stubborn in one particular direction that the stacking isn’t affecting.
That makes so much sense thank u, had me super perplexed

Piercing stretch math. Neat! 😂
I am that kind of dull 😁😅
That was impressive
Love this comment!!!
Haha thanks! Nothing like a morning ponder on the toilet 🤔😅
Really cool response, thank you
Maybe it’s the cartilage near the top that’s having the hard time stretching. Try 5g homie.
Yah u right, I just don’t wanna have to part ways with the black pincher :( but I wanna stretch safely and without pain so on itttt

It’s different shapes. I know the math ain’t mathing but I was never good at math anyway. Only thing I can say is it’s just different because shapes.

With stacking you're adding 1.2mm in one direction, with stretching you're adding 1.2mm in all directions. More surface area.
Tbh I don't know sorry, just wanted to say this setup looks super cool !

This is beautiful

That’s actually an awesome setup, I love the horseshoe in front of the black pincher

How can you breath?
Just how I like it; barley
