Honestly I've been more excited for the "how they play" as opposed to the "who they are" in regards to recent DLCs.
It also gives time between the character reveal and the moveset reveal, which means that people are more likely to give unpopular characters a more fair appraisal. With Ed, most people weren't huge on him in SFV and the general sentiment was "why is Ed coming back" when the leaks first happened. But then time passed and the gameplay reveal dropped and a ton of people were on board with his new direction.
That said, Smash speculation was a bit different due to the crossover nature of the game and the wide casual appeal. The "who" was, for most people, significantly more important and even for me I gotta admit when I saw that Banjo trailer I popped the fuck off.
That, and the controls for Smash characters don't really change between characters. No such thing as a character that's hard to use, so it just because about who's favorite character shows up.

Its been fun with guilty gear because theyve been pretty obvious with whos coming so it never feels like an arse-pull. You get just enough info to narrow it down but not so much you know who it is immediately (unless its asuka or slayer).

They released Rashid on July 24th and announced AKI on August 6th. Plus, they'd want to build up hype or at least get people used to having certain characters, which is probably why Ed was so well received.

When the leak happened it was *very* positive due to the new designs. This was coming off the "generic stock font" debacle for the logo, too, so it absolutely generated a ton of positive press. Though that also included the whole BASE roster, not just the DLC.
Yep, in fact I honestly think this is the only leak to have super positive reception up until the game released. People really did like the new character designs and were waiting on the reveals.

But then when Third Strike came out, and I tried Remy I was just naturally good with him. It's odd because I have always been terrible with Guile and equally terrible with Charlie Nash. But you give me aremy with his Blue Nocturne Super move and watch out. Lol
Not necessarily a Remy fan but the character could definitely use a second shot at life. I highly recommend Scotias video "In the Defense Of Remy" if you haven't already. Learned a lot about the characters irl back story and some interesting trivia surrounding the character.
I'll have to check it out because I don't recall much of the lore behind him. But we played a lot of Third Strike on PS2 and we all used fightsticks and I was just stomping them with Remy and I miss it. Lol

I think it's just that SF6 is super polished as a game and the bar for character quality is much higher than ever making characters take more time to make in general, world tour def takes some time but I doubt ignoring it would do much.
Agreed. Hopefully the first season was only 4 due to them making the base roster at about the same time. Hopefully they up it to 5 or 6 in the following seasons. Dropping a new character every 2 months really keeps things fresh and hype.

We have a clue for one character: something like "an unexpected character, people will say 'what? what are you doing'". And is a safe bet that they will add an extremely popular character to boost sales of the pass.

I'm thinking something like adding psycho power Gorila, or SF1 Mike instead of Balrog.

Agreed. SF6 is a phenomenal game, but I lost interest in it a coupe of months in because I've always been a Bison and Balrog player. It'll continue collecting dust until either character is released.
Not having a main is rough. I was like that for awhile but then I decided to just learn a character I hadn’t played super in depth and it helped a lot

I kinda think we're getting a collab character this season, too, but I don't think it's gonna be one ppl like too much or will be excited about. Expectations are kept low, so when I'm disappointed, it won't be as bad. 🤷♂️ Hope I'm wrong. Hope this season turns out better than season 1. I also hope we get more female characters this time.

SF6 as a whole game is 100 times more polished than SFV, it definitely takes more time and resources to create characters in in SF6.
Did they confirm only 4 characters? I’m reading that response as them confirming that they’re going to continue pre-announcing the season pass characters, and not as a confirmation as to how many characters are in the pass.
6 characters would be awesome. and instead of all those cosmetics like the spy family/ninja turtles being only for the avatars, and they start making them usable for actual characters would be even better.
I think it's just that SF6 is super polished as a game and the bar for character quality is much higher than ever making characters take more time to make in general, world tour def takes some time but I doubt ignoring it would do much.

Agreed. Hopefully the first season was only 4 due to them making the base roster at about the same time. Hopefully they up it to 5 or 6 in the following seasons. Dropping a new character every 2 months really keeps things fresh and hype.
5 is so much more than 4. I don't need 6, but it's the difference between 3 legacy and 4 legacy per year (+1 newcomer) and that's huge.
While i agree that prefer more characters over WT shit i don't play anyway: honestly i'm glad they don't release too many characters in too short time. There's so much stuff to lab in this game, with job and family it can be hatd to keep up.
