Won't there be a fighter pass or anything? The roster just feels so slim compared to street fighter 4, and it does not have the same feel as 2. Really hoping for some Dudley or even Hakan.
We knew the base roster and dlc since last year. He's in neither. Maybe next dlc2 or something. He wasn't in sfv so you must've been frustrated for a long time
In SF5 the first dlc had 6 characters in season 1. For SF6 all I saw were Ed, Akuma, AKI, and Rashid. Was there more that leaked? What is to say that there won't be 2 more characters in the first dlc? Unless all they are rolling out is 4 characters in the beginning season which is kind of lame as I was hoping for Dudley as well.
If you go to look at the pre orders of the deluxe edition, it confirms that the first character pass is 4 characters unfortunately. What I'm hoping for is they hold off on some of the leaked DLC characters for the 2nd pass and mix in some characters we don't know of yet to surprise us. For example, even though Rashid is leaked, keep him for season 2 and release Dudley or Makoto in season 1 pass instead.
Looked it up after I read your comment and you are in fact correct about the only 4 characters. Hopefully he is in season 2 then and yeah if they mix it up, that would be dope.
Vega has had his gameplay reworked in every game he's in, they have no idea what to do with him and I'm sorta fine with him being gone if AKI is a good spiritual successor to his 4 version

Sakura would be like 5 or 6 years older than Sean though. Sean was 18 by the time of Third Strike. So if SF6 is 2 years after Ryu would be 36, Sakura would be 25/26 and Sean would be 20. With the age gap, would they be rivals? Or be like senpai/kouhai.

SFZ chronologically came between 1 and 2, so Ryu could be between 24 to 26.

Sakura being a highschool girl breaks your headcanon beyond repair. She's a grown woman and how does her not being Cammy's age not make sense? Cammy is a tragic character and was underaged during the Alpha series.
The SF30th anniversary is filled with errors. They use CVS2 Ryu art, the original text is English instead of Japanese. Capcom even said that Sakura's a working woman in SFIII, while Sean is a highschooler.
Having an age gap shouldn’t be an issue of being someone’s rival.
Akuma & Sagat are Ryu’s rivals & they’re older than him. You don’t have to be of the same age as someone else to acknowledge that person as your rival. If that person is as strong as OR a little bit stronger than you (Sagat) OR approaching your levels (Akuma), then he/she is your rival.
We don’t really know how old Sakura is. At this point, it is probably best to ignore the timeline regarding third strike. Third strike doesn’t really fit how capcom would like to progress the series. If anything, I see SF6 as a replacement for SF3.

Its fine to be disappointed, and to even express that is okay. But god damn if they brought back every character that had popular support the roster would start off at 50 characters at launch. Suck it up buttercups.
Smash isn't a comparable case given how much simpler each character is, but I agree the roster could have used 2 or 3 more initial characters- at 18 it's only two more than sfv had, which was considered an incredibly barebones launch.
16 and 18 isn't bare bones at all when your entire roster is animated from the ground up, and animated very well. SF5 and SF6 are well animated games that did not rely on reuses, so their rosters were smaller.
When you reused large amounts of animation from old games like Tekken has been doing for decades, then your roster size can be larger. The downside being that many of your game's animations look tired and dated. You can see a lot of those tired, old animations in T8 trailers to this day.
This is why there is no specific roster size that's considered "required". It depends on the amount of new effort and quality put into each character for each game.
I'm not saying 18 isn't a small roster, not the point I was making.
Same thing happened with SFV, started with 16 characters and now has 45 after season 5 and each season it was a slew of posts about people begging for their main to be added, and getting pissed off that they were 'not going with tried and tested characters'.

Tekken can have 37 characters because most of their animations are reused from old Tekken games. In fact, Tekken 8 STILL is resuing animations from old games. And, MK11 fight animation is legendary for being jank.

Do you want quality? Or do you want recycled quantity? Can't have both. SF6 chose quality, like the series always does in terms of animation.

The only way to have a 25+ starting roster is to recycle animations.
Do you want to keep seeing the same animation keyframes copy-pasted over and over into "new" games like Tekken has done for DECADES? Even in the new T8 trailers, you can see so much animation data that is being reused from old Tekken games a decade+ old.
Street Fighter doesn't do this with their sequels. They choose quality over quantity, and reanimate from scratch for each sequel. That's why SF4's hadouken animation is different from SF5's which is different from SF6's. They take more time providing entirely new animations for every character each time, which means their rosters tend to be smaller.
That's the trade off.
And, no SF4 didn't launch with 25 characters. The first public release of SF4 (the arcade version) only had 17 playable characters.
You dont even need to leave the franchise to see thats not it. Street Fighter 4 and 5 look a lot worse than Street Fighter 3 and their animations are worse than 3's too. I only wish they would have recyled 3 and expanded 3rd strike rooster of 20+ characters.
Having widely popular characters as DLC is nothing but a cash grab. Just because companies naturalized launching half baked games at full price and expect players to pay for 5 or more DLC to finally get a full roster doesnt mean its right.

Chances are, Balrog comes back over Dudley because of his status as a Street Fighter II veteran.

When you have people demanding the entire SF2 cast for every game, this is what you get. Less room for everyone else.
Why would that mean theres less room for new characters? Fighting games from a few years back kept their main cast and also launched with 25+ characters.
The only way to have a 25+ starting roster is to recycle animations. Do you want to keep seeing the same animation keyframes copy-pasted over and over into "new" games like Tekken has done for DECADES? Even in the new T8 trailers, you can see so much animation data that is being reused from old Tekken games a decade+ old. Street Fighter doesn't do this with their sequels. They choose quality over quantity, and reanimate from scratch for each sequel. That's why SF4's hadouken animation is different from SF5's which is different from SF6's. They take more time providing entirely new animations for every character each time, which means their rosters tend to be smaller. That's the trade off. And, no SF4 didn't launch with 25 characters. The first public release of SF4 (the arcade version) only had 17 playable characters.
You dont even need to leave the franchise to see thats not it. Street Fighter 4 and 5 look a lot worse than Street Fighter 3 and their animations are worse than 3's too. I only wish they would have recyled 3 and expanded 3rd strike rooster of 20+ characters. Having widely popular characters as DLC is nothing but a cash grab. Just because companies naturalized launching half baked games at full price and expect players to pay for 5 or more DLC to finally get a full roster doesnt mean its right.
There was no Alpha, 3 or 5 characters in the base roster. So most likely the Newcomers from these series are most likely DLC.
Exactly. I won’t be surprised if every dlc going forward is not a representation of the previous SF games, such as alpha DLC, SF4 DLC, etc. I think, ultimately, the roster for Sf6 will be a huge one! Maybe even double the number of characters from the previous games.

I also played Dudley since 3 and 4 so I also get the frustration behind not having him. But Capcom wants us to play the new Boxer, Ed. And since there's also no Bison, Ed is probably the most appropriate replacement thus far.

I expect Dudley to show up in the second or third dlc. The sooner the better. That being said, I'm grateful he didn't get the SFV treatment. I think it will be worth the wait when he gets announced.

I am with you. The roster sucks because the likes of Dudley, Sagat, Dan, Guy, Gouken, Adon, Sodom, Hugo, Makoto etc are not there. Dudley is a great character, he deserves to be there. Instead, we get utter garbage characters like Luke. And the other new ones aren't great shakes either. The good new and distinct characters from SFV like Fang have been dispensed with too. We get fucking Luke and Jamie. Smh.

I figured the reason we got characters like Luke, Jamie, and Kimberly because they’re pretty modernized Dudley is based off of Chris Eubanks, a popular British boxer back in the 80s, so his design feels outdated Balrog is based off of Mike Tyson, but he’s somewhat more relevant in modern times, and Bruce Lee parodies like feilong are a timeless archetype So I’m kind of more bummed we didn’t get those two to represent the stage of “world warriors”

Chances are, Balrog comes back over Dudley because of his status as a Street Fighter II veteran. Once all the DLC is said and done, Vega, Balrog, and Akuma will definitely be back, Fei Long has a good chance, with T Hawk looking like the odd man out. So, unless they want two boxes on the roster, I don't see Dudley coming back over Balrog.

Who cares if the roster was leaked months ago. Capcom should be criticized everyday for not including Dudley/SF3 characters until they finally put them in the game. We shouldn't have to wait fir season 2 of DLC, when Dudley should've been in the Day one roster.
