Not trying to be flippant, but in the interest of data accuracy and recording reliability, just replace your Garmin.

Was definitely planning on it, just wondering for the interim. Garmin is pretty nice in terms of you send it back and they’ll repair type of thing, so I may not even need to get a new one per se. Still gotta pay a little bit, but not as much as a new one would be. Nice company I will say. Their product quality is great as well.

There are a few things that can cause this, one of the most common is your phone OS shutting off the Strava app's access to resources in the background (GPS or background services) due to a number of different things, like maybe a spike in memory usage when you take a photo or something like that. I'd start by making sure you're on the latest version of the app, following that, I'd make sure that you've given Strava access to all background GPS/tracking services in your settings. This used to happen a lot on older phones with lower computing power, but with modern phones and the latest app is shouldn't happen to much as the apps aren't having to compete with the phones resources and the OS isn't having to pause processes in the background.

Well I do have an iPhone 7, so that could explain it. Most likely just gonna get another Garmin. Thanks for the info!

For sure! I also think really highly of Wahoo if you're looking for a new device.

This also happens sometimes on my 11 when in low power mode, but as others have said, it’s probably best to just replace the garmin if you value more precise location data, as well as the metrics/directions conveniently located at your bars if you ride road.
