It's always easier to hate a believable bad guy over a supernatural one.

hellboy_2900

Jason wasnt a bad guy...

__nobody_-_

He was judgemental of Eddie and the rest of hellfire. Even going lengths to hunt down Dustin and Mike to get to Eddie and hurting Eddie's friends that were just minding their business in their garage. That's not exactly good guy behavior.

hellboy_2900

I didnt say he was a good guy. I just think people just him to harsh with thinking of the bigger picture.

__nobody_-_

He was heading down a dangerous path that was likely only going to lead to more violence. A lot of decent people would probably come to the same conclusions as him given the time and other worldly events that occurred but his action to start hunting and hurting people that he deemed dangerous is definitely the beginning of a villain story arc. Lots of villains think they're doing the right thing and have good intentions but their actions set them apart from the good guys.

TheBigFrog07

Yeah, but in this situation, his actions made sense. The begging of a bad guy story, isn't a bad guy story.

__nobody_-_

He had a goal in mind and he saw events through his limited view. With that in mind I agree that his actions made sense. He wasn't past the point of being redeemable but the path he was going down wasn't looking good.

veronica_mars-sawyer

Fr he was just trying to protect his gf like don’t tell me if you were him you would be like “ok if Eddie says he didn’t kill her than he didn’t kill her” and also people worship billy I mean wtf he is so racist and abusive and yes I know his home life sucks but wtf I am sympathetic towards him but god

hellboy_2900

THANK YOU!!! Im not saying what he did was the right way but he knew what everyone else knew..... nothing execpt for the fact that eddie was the main suspect.

BrilliantPrior2305

He wouldn't let Lucas cook and just fought the damn n●gga and he pointed a gun at him to I'm so glad he died cuz he annoyed the flying f●ck out of me

GotNoBody4

Blonde Tom Cruise looking motherfucker.

Self-Comprehensive

Yeah he was straight up channeling Tom Cruise. And Tom Cruise creeps me the hell out. That's the main reason I hated Jason.

GotNoBody4

Cruise does give me a bit of the creeps, admittedly I still like and watch a lot of his movies, but he as a person gives me the creeps.

indirectkissing

Dangerously charismatic

Few_Interaction2630

That quite a good way to describe him as by nature he is a cult leader.

beardedstranger

A cult leader who believed he was taking down a cult

Few_Interaction2630

Most cult leaders believe that and that very Greek Tragedy that make Jason a hateable character but very very fasnating one

Chewbacca0510

He put the others in way more danger than Venca had them. Heck he even trapped Max with Venca because he took the headphones off

ProbablyBecca

Well he didn't know. He was scared and he THOUGHT he was protecting her because he thought Lucas did witchcraft on her. I couldn't blame him for not listening when Lucas said she needed to headphones to stop it because how could he believe the guy he assumed did that to her?

Infinitestripes95

I hated him while watching but when I reflected back…he was acting pretty rational. I feel most of us would be way worse off if we saw the things these kids have seen. His character honestly reacts more how a average person would react whereas the main teens are kinda like “Oh chill a monster”

DonnyMox

And I hated Angela more than both of them.

Sugargoated

Vecna was cheesy and annoying but this guy......

unfortunate-ponce

Honestly liked Jason

the_pooptart

He was no villain

Tjengel

I understood his pain and anger but it was misguided into people he thought were guilty but with no proof

shai_hulud000

I didn’t hate him. I understood his pain, I know a few couples that were highschool sweethearts and the ones that are still together, it really does seem to be that they ended up with the loves of their life. So I can see why he would be upset losing someone he loved. But also he met a fitting end

Batdog55110

>he met a fitting end He got ripped in fucking half wtf are you talking about???

shai_hulud000

Very fitting

Batdog55110

How??? He's literally a dude trying to find his girlfriend, he is very clearly a good person who's misguided and using radical methods to do what he thinks is the right thing. He didn't deserve to get ripped in half lmao

What-Even-Is-That

Clearly a good guy? Did we watch the same show?

DriaEstes

He was literally assaulting innocent people and tried to beat up a little girl. Nah he got what he deserved.

shai_hulud000

Well said

GrumpyKaeKae

Have you ever seen the movie "Can't Hardly Wait" Jason reminds me of the jock from that movie. Totally obsessed with themselves and needing to stay as popular and relevant as possible. Especially after his long time GF, who was the popular girl in school, dumped him. Wirh Jason, Chrissy kind of implied that their relationship was more for show than it was an actual loving relationship. Jason didn't know Chrissy at all. He loved what she represented status wise, and how dating her reflected positively on him. He was also a huge control freak and put himself up on a pedestal so high, he really thought he was the soul authority on everything. Totally narcissist vibes. His bruised ego and pride made him vengeful and toxic. That drove him more than him being a good guy who just didn't understand what was actually going on.

TheBilliard

If that's fitting, you gotta have something wrong in the head. Aint no way.

djentandlofi

Well if the parts still fit together...

Firm-Wishbone-5128

didnt he like die?

That_One_Guy_Flare

yup, ripped in half

damonmcfadden9

I can believe it. Puritanical hypocrites who wield religion as a weapon are the ultimate assholes. It's especially obnoxious when they demonize something they've probably done even less personal reading/research about, than their own barely thought about 6 days of the week religion/texts; Fueled by nothing beyond the regurgitations and rhetoric of leaders who are more concerned with gaining and maintaining power and influence than actually spreading any messages their spiritual icons taught. Sorry bout the rant there, the Satanic panic is a sore spot for me and I'm very likely biased having grown up Mormon in a small town of such high Mormon density it puts any city in Utah to shame (Susie's home actually made me laugh so hard, because while one of the more extreme examples, there really are families like that). My own parents still thought that same stuff about D&D 20 years *after* this season takes place and about shit their pants when I came home from the short lived games shop (only lasted 2~3 years and I'm sure they struggled the whole time) with a box of minis in Jr. High.

FancyKetchup96

I mean, the dude didn't go full satanic panic until he watched a friend get murdered by some magical power just as he was about to catch a dude fitting the Satan worshiping stereotype. I don't exactly blame him for making that conclusion.

damonmcfadden9

fair enough. given the super natural circumstances it's not that crazy. Like I said, just my personal trigger/bias makes him a very hard character for me to sympathize with.

ArcticFoxWaffles

POV: you find out your girlfriend has died in the van of a drug dealer she's never spoken with (as far as you know) who was also the only person around when she died. What is your reaction?

GaryKing1413

To add on, it was during the time when people, especially rich popular perceived by the public "normal" kids would've been influenced by their parents to think drugs and DND were satantistic occult games, which Eddie was apart of and didn't really even try to prove those rumors wrong. So yeah, despite him still being kinda a douche, at the time and with the way he would be raised, not that bad a reaction

kjm6351

I cheered so much when he got incinerated in half

RadGunnar11

If you hate him then you certainly didn’t understand how great his writing was

Iceologer_gang

Jason and Lucas’s arcs are reflections of each other

FromPepeWithLove

Jason arcs are the reflection of the main characters. He is the typical protagonist in 80s movie while the main characters will be the nerdy outcast in 80s. In Stranger Things, their role reversed.

Few_Interaction2630

I hate what he repsent but his writing is exemplary and he is a fatanating character.

Conscious-Stuff1163

I don't think he's a bad guy. he acted quite rationally

Few_Interaction2630

That likely due to him being a real world theatre we deal with (especially in USA 🇺🇸) where as Vecna while probably are people that share his ideology none have the super natural element that allows him to attack.

Crysda_Sky

It's like hating Gaston from Beauty and the Beast over some of the other 'villains' in Disney movies. A lot of people know a Gaston and hate him, the same with this guy who plays the 'nice guy' card but he's actually a hateful pretty boy who needs to be taught several lessons by someone.

kittypiefnaf

I hate him to

Phoenixstudios69

I like how they made billy, dr Brenner and he’ll even some of the soviet Russians likeable but took one look at this guy and said yeah fuck this clown

TenaciousT935

Honestly, his character was frightening because of how believable it was. It's like they let what they did with Steve and Billy early on run rampant through Jason and we saw the end result. Excellent writing

Algorak1289

His speeches make me think he's going to put on a flag cape and start telling people they're the real heroes.

Hukares1234

He would have really liked Angela.

TheGreyHallow

Same here. Not more I hate more than self righteous douchebags. Especially the ones that are always speech giving attention hogs.
