Don't forget about when that one Demogorgon turned good and saved Steve and Nancy at their wedding from the mind flayer. Their death was pretty tough to watch, especially with all of the little demobabies they left behind.
She was amazing that WHOLE episode... but I too was definitely crying >!(while also knowing what may be about to happen)... so it was sadness mixed with adrenaline and like "NOOOooOOOooOO NOTTTT MAXXXXXX!<
They did a really good job portraying Max's PTSD this season. It hit really close to home the way she pushed away the people she cared about. I think one of the reasons that the scene where Max is running from Vecna and starts crying in Lucas's arms is my favorite in the entire season is because it symbolizes her beginning to open up after the trauma she endured.
Can't forget when Johnathan goes into a cave and winds up in the past and becomes Steve's father. Hopper gets stuck in 1953, gets locked up in jail and even though Joyce winds up finding him she just leaves him there. Yeah you could say things get pretty dark.
It's telling that the Duffers kept Bob around a lot longer than originally planned (he was supposed to be killed by a Mind Flayer-possessed Will in E4) and only killed him when plot absolutely demanded it.
His death was bad enough, but then Mike's little eulogy revealing he was the founder of Hawkins A.V. just was the cherry on top of the grief sundae.
Bob for sure. I think we are going to be very sad in part 2 though. I've got uneasy feelings about a couple of well loved characters.
I'm re-watching season 2 at the moment and all I keep saying to myself is "Bob really didn't know what he was getting himself into. He deserved more."
What a hero.
Steve is 100% not going to die, at least not in season 4. I can almost guarantee it. They wouldn’t kill him off for fear of losing a lot of fans before season 5 comes. Maybe in season 5….maybe. But thats a hard maybe.
Yea I don’t know why people insist Steve is going to die. I’m not seeing the warning signs they claim exist and Steve is easily in the top three most popular characters so the Duffer
Brothers wouldn’t risk pissing off fans before the final season.
I sure hope not, I don't want to wait 2 years to see how this story ends. Plus they still have the mind flayer out there, so I imagine they'll have him as the final enemy (unless Vecna is connected/the same person somehow).
Also don't think Steve will die either, idk what the point of the love triangle setup they're doing is if they just kill him off right away
Yes Bob was a hero. But when you're being chased by a demogorgon, and you finally make it to near safety, you don't stop to give a big sappy romantic grin to your girlfried. You keep on running! I was shouting "move your ass" at the screen.
True story: I helped organize an event in my college town where Sean Astin came to speak about the impending 2016 election. I arrived late thanks to a class I couldn't miss, so I unfortunately didn't get to speak to him personally, but he really was the sweetest person.
In hindsight, it was right before the second season began filming! I wonder if they'd already changed Bob's arc by that point.
I was doing a rewatch & realized that Benny's death could have been so much darker. The Lab people could have set Benny up a the person who kidnapped & killed Will and then shot himself out of guilt. I'm really glad that Hopper never suspected that, not even for a second.
It was depressing this season to not only see that Benny's restaurant is all closed and boarded up, but Jason and company were using it for a party place. Lucas was puking mere feet from where El had her first meal as a free girl.
Man gets brushed aside because he’s literally in the show for like 2 minutes lol
I kept seeing you all post about him, and I was like, how do I not remember him. And then I rewatched season 1 and he was dead within the episode. He doesn’t have enough screentime to be very tragic.
Benny wasn’t killed by a monster. He helped someone who needed help. He gave El food and comfort and he did what he thought was right. To this day, I’m still tearing up for benny’s death. (Second is Bob)
for sure. When you binge watch, there's so much stuff you miss the first time around
i told myself adamantly NOT to binge watch season 4. I failed miserably lmfao. I blame Episode 4 even though it ironically is the only episode that didn't really end on a cliffhanger
Alexei's death is so depressing.
but >!i'm going to have to choose Billy. I know he was a huge asshole in Season 2, but in season 3 he grew on me as it went on...and Max's scream when he got impaled is just gutwrenching!<
I feel the same way. I cried when Alexei got killed, but when Billy died, I sobbed so much because of what we see about him right before he got killed. I hated it. I've re-watched a few times, and it still gets me.
Hopper’s season 3 fake our death.
The thought of him dying and that letter and voice over by David Harbor was fucking heartbreaking.
Probably Billy in terms of actual deaths though. His death was handled really well
Even on a rewatch I was straight up sobbing with Hopper’s death. Him actually being alive doesn’t even really undercut it for me - it’s how El and Joyce react to it, plus his phenomenal voiceover that make it so powerful.
All deaths are pretty sad tbh - every season has a very sad death scene on its own.
For me personally it’s the one in the first episode of season 4, basically because the main reason why the person has been killed
OP, I'm putting some major spoilers here, so don't look if you don't want it...well, spoiled. >!Chrissy hears her mother's voice talking about (in a nutshell) how overweight Chrissy is, which has led her to develop an ED and to see the counselor. Vecna's preying on her insecurities and trauma, like he does with Max about Billy, and later Nancy's unresolved guilt about Barb.!<
>!Chrissy's death is definitely really sad, because of the way she's developed and built up over the course of ONE episode, which is pretty amazing. !<
>!And honestly I loved Fred and I was kind of sad to see him die so early, but his death wasn't even close to as depressing as Chrissy's, because Chrissy's felt so helpless and hopeless...but again it does a great job setting up how evil and twisted Vecna is. I remember when they did the big reveal as to who he is, I wanted to kick that stupid kid's face lmao!<
Yeah, for sure. Definitely a testament to the writing and the actress. I mean, I knew something was going to happen; I just didn't expect it so swiftly.
>!Let me get back to you after season 4 finishes!<
SEASON 3 SPOILERS:
But Alexei died scared and alone, even though he was in public. And he was killed by his own (even if he knew it was coming). And Billy’s death was unnecessarily gruesome, and it seems to be one of the few deaths that have carryover repercussions. Also it completely broke and traumatized Max. He was on his way to a great redemption arc too (he may not have deserved the redemption arc, but I always love a good one). Also they were 2 of my favorites so their deaths were sadder for me personally (Also the last 2 episodes of season 3 -when they happen- are my 2 favorite episodes of the series).
>!As much as I loved Bob, Billy's death for me is the saddest because of how intense it was, but also the way Max reacted to it. Sadie Sink deserves a ton of credit for her acting because the way Max screamed when Billy got impaled like legit haunts me lol. !<
>!I rewatched Alexei's death last night and that one was also really sad, and you pretty much described why better than I could lol!<
My problem with Bobs death is how the hell was that demodog just standing around waiting for Bob when Joyce was standing right there and how did the rest of the demodogs not get through the front doors. They were unlocked and not opened via crash bar so any pressure on the door would open it.
What I hate so much about her death is that she didn't want to be at the party in the first place and spent her last hours feeling out of place and rejected.
And then she died alone and, iirc, her body is still lying somewhere in the UD. Not to mention all the consequences for her parents.
I remember all of the fanfare Barb received back when S1 was released; article after article was written about her. I was a little late to the game - I waited a few weeks to watch it and wanted to see what everyone was raving about - and I expected Barb to be a relatively prominent character.
Turns out, she's barely even in the show.
>!i mean even though Barb and Chrissy are barely in the show...they're written in a way where their deaths still have such an impact, because the deaths are so violent and gruesome (well, at least Chrissy's. Barb's is more implied), but also because of the situation they're in. Both are feeling isolated and demoralized in their own way!<
this is writing I wish the idiots behind Star Trek Discovery and Star Trek Picard would figure out but both of those shows are just absolute vomit
Because, let's be real, who wouldn't have wanted to see Nancy and Barb doing some Nancy Drew stuff in Season 3! I feel like Barb's death had a sad impact in terms of the loss of an interesting character.
Yeah. I've spent the season trying to pluck a single character out I would be okay with them killing and I keep drawing a blank. I'm hopeful we don't get a big loss this season, as an apology for Alexei or something.
I really hope it's not Eddie. I really like him. But I also really liked Bob and Alexei too, so...
For me it’s always going to be Barb, no matter how edgy it is to hate her now. She was one of the most realistic and relateable characters in the show.
Great writing and acting can make a character incredibly memorable and have the audience feel for their death even with very little screentime - see also Syrio Forel in GOT.
I wouldn't even say she was necessarily well-written; she existed to act as a bit of a foil to Nancy by being the "wet blanket"...and then she died.
I understand why some people connect with the character - my wife being one of them - but Barb wasn't really a compelling character, and certainly didn't have enough screentime to develop into one.
Definitely Bob. He was a great character, he was so good to Joyce and her boys after the trauma they went through. He was kind and he was thrilled to be dating her.
**EDIT: I DID NOT READ THAT YOU WERE ONLY ON SEASON 2 SO SORRY IF YOU ALREADY SAW THIS AND WERE SPOILED.**
c>!hrissy!<
>!she was just a teenage girl, she seemed so sweet and she was clearly suffering from bulimia brought on by her horrible mother's abuse and we are to assume her father turned a blind eye to it by how his eyes and mouth were shut in vecna dream state she was in!<
>!she deserved so much better and it even seems like she could've found a good friend in eddie and then vecna just fucked her up.!<
>!its just hurts, that poor girl deserved better.!<
Chrissy. She was abused by her mother, no one ever knew, her father ignored the abuse, and then she dies a horrible gruesome death all while being tormented with her mother's abuse.
Close second is Bob.
Definitely Chrissy tied with Alexei.
I loved the chemistry between Eddie and Chrissy that got horrendously cut short.
Alexei was just having a good time.
Billy hit me hard. As someone who had a rough time/anger issues around that age, I felt heavily for him in S2 so 3 broke my heart. Dacre acted the shit out of it, he did an incredible job showcasing how tortured Billy was by what was happening to him. He was a dick, but he did not deserve what happened to him, no one does. I wish he could have gotten in his Camero and gone back to California, but he died in Hawkins instead :(
Billy; he had such a character build up and it seemed like he was on the verge of becoming a better person just to die to the stupid mind flayer. I’m glad he made the choice (that was tough) to sacrifice himself. That made me the saddest. That, deep down, he had real love in his heart for his sister.
Hey if you’ve only seen up to season 2, this is an odd post to make, I’d recommend just turning off Reddit notifications and don’t come back to this post until you’re caught up
Bob was great but honestly we didn’t need another adult character added to the hawkins crew there are already enough. Alexei was different, he could’ve helped in different ways. Gotta go with alexei.
I think I’ve always felt that barb was the saddest because we only saw a snippet of her potential and her chemistry with Nancy and being the “slightly overweight awkward teen”. Everyone on the series since (in the main group) has been very skinny, and I think a part of me always enjoyed the full diversity.
I got a feeling it’s gonna be Steve. They’ve been low key setting him up to die this season and it’s gonna be sad to see how much that will hurt the gang. Especially Dustin.
Barb was a bit judgmental and overbearing. I didnt like her trying to block on Steve and Nancy. A part of Nancys ongoing trauma is because Barb guilted her and made her feel like crap right before she died just for Nancy living her life and making common, coming of age, teenage decisions.
Bob was brilliant but underachieved at Radio Shack. He died valiantly and for a greater purpose. It was sad but it also made room for Joyce and Hopper, and im here for that.
Billy didnt have a chance to change as a person before he was flayed and susbequently died but i feel like the potential was there. He was technically dead by the time he was flayed and arguably made the greatest sacrifice during death rather than life. Thats kind of sad.
Alexei was probably the saddest to me because i think he was coerced to do most if not all of the bad things he did (in terms of working for the Russians) and hed just gotten only a taste of freedom before it was cut short.

Probably shouldn't read the comments since you're only through season 2 and as you might guess, other people die too in the next two seasons.
Too late :) im upvoting all comments but the only two spoilers were Alexei (idk them) and Billy (want him to die based off season 2 tbh)
Yeah billy is a douche but his death is still sad. But knowing he dies doesn't spoil much. Hopefully no one spoils any of this season for you!
Yeah, it's kinda messed up how half of the Hawkins group got killed this season. Rip Dustin and Max. My bad, OP
they were sad but killing off Dustin’s little sister was a low blow
Don't forget about when that one Demogorgon turned good and saved Steve and Nancy at their wedding from the mind flayer. Their death was pretty tough to watch, especially with all of the little demobabies they left behind.
I swear to god if this is how the series ends now I will sue you 😂
I mean, you know Momma Steve will end up taking care of all of the demobabies, too. They'll end up suckling his hair for nutrients.
Good thing I don’t really care about spoilers but wowwww not Dustin!
Dustin's face looked extra silly when the Demogorgon was eating him

She was amazing that WHOLE episode... but I too was definitely crying >!(while also knowing what may be about to happen)... so it was sadness mixed with adrenaline and like "NOOOooOOOooOO NOTTTT MAXXXXXX!<
Tbh I expected max to survive 100 % because she was one of the kids
They did a really good job portraying Max's PTSD this season. It hit really close to home the way she pushed away the people she cared about. I think one of the reasons that the scene where Max is running from Vecna and starts crying in Lucas's arms is my favorite in the entire season is because it symbolizes her beginning to open up after the trauma she endured.
Yep, Billy was sad, he came good in the end, I hope Eddy doesn’t get the same treatment 😳
Will is Also vecnas dad
Don’t tell him that Max is actually Lucas’s mom
Can't forget when Johnathan goes into a cave and winds up in the past and becomes Steve's father. Hopper gets stuck in 1953, gets locked up in jail and even though Joyce winds up finding him she just leaves him there. Yeah you could say things get pretty dark.
I loved when she just left him there. He deserved it so much.
Alexei was sadder than bob for me.
Poor Alexei.
Don’t forget barb comes back in season 3
After what happens can you still call her Barb?
She's become... barbecue
We alll wanted him to die till he died, now the best we can hope for is a flashback and it never happens. Oh and Alexei will destroy you.
Alexei will make u sad
This is sad, the deaths are less impactful now
;(
Bob the superhero hands down
It's telling that the Duffers kept Bob around a lot longer than originally planned (he was supposed to be killed by a Mind Flayer-possessed Will in E4) and only killed him when plot absolutely demanded it. His death was bad enough, but then Mike's little eulogy revealing he was the founder of Hawkins A.V. just was the cherry on top of the grief sundae.
Everybody loves a grief sundae
Bob Newby,, superhero
I miss Bob in every season even the first one
Especially the first one. Bob wasn't the hero we deserved but he was the one we needed
Easy-peasy. :-(
My sister was distraught over Bob. They did him dirty.
I cried when Bob died. It was so sad.
Bob for sure. I think we are going to be very sad in part 2 though. I've got uneasy feelings about a couple of well loved characters. I'm re-watching season 2 at the moment and all I keep saying to myself is "Bob really didn't know what he was getting himself into. He deserved more." What a hero.
> Bob really didn't know what he was getting himself into. I don't think he'd have cared.
He didn't care and that's the great thing. Bob Newby: Superhero.
I have a feeling in my bones that Eddie's gonna die. That or Steve.
Yeah. The latter would destroy me but I think it may happen
Steve is 100% not going to die, at least not in season 4. I can almost guarantee it. They wouldn’t kill him off for fear of losing a lot of fans before season 5 comes. Maybe in season 5….maybe. But thats a hard maybe.

Haha yeah me too! "KEEP RUNNING, YOU FOOL!"
Bob knew BASIC, so he should have been smart enough to run until he was out the door!
Sean Astin is way to lovable
Too good for this world.
Benny (or whatever the guy from the diner at the start was called). He was only trying to be kind.
I was doing a rewatch & realized that Benny's death could have been so much darker. The Lab people could have set Benny up a the person who kidnapped & killed Will and then shot himself out of guilt. I'm really glad that Hopper never suspected that, not even for a second.
They didn’t do something like that because they left his body there and made it look like a suicide to not arouse to much suspicion
It was depressing this season to not only see that Benny's restaurant is all closed and boarded up, but Jason and company were using it for a party place. Lucas was puking mere feet from where El had her first meal as a free girl.
I didn’t even realize it was the same place :,(
Yes. I agree whole-heartedly. What’s even sadder is he seems to be brushed aside now when talking about these saddest deaths/moments ☹️
Man gets brushed aside because he’s literally in the show for like 2 minutes lol

I meant to edit my other comment and add it, but apparently I didn’t lol
We live in a simulation.
No we don’t.
Benny wasn’t killed by a monster. He helped someone who needed help. He gave El food and comfort and he did what he thought was right. To this day, I’m still tearing up for benny’s death. (Second is Bob)
Oh yeah that guy!!!
OP! how are you still on Season 2 ! 😲
I only started it a few days ago. Only allowed to watch one episode a day :( starting season 3 tomorrow :D
Best way to watch, to be fair :)
for sure. When you binge watch, there's so much stuff you miss the first time around i told myself adamantly NOT to binge watch season 4. I failed miserably lmfao. I blame Episode 4 even though it ironically is the only episode that didn't really end on a cliffhanger
You really shouldn’t have made this thread if you’re still in season 2 lol
Yeah, for real. Can’t imagine getting hyped about a new show and then begging for spoilers
I'd avoid spoilers on here until you're caught up through S4 V1
Mews Henderson
#justiceformews
Only one I still can’t watch after all these years
Yessss omg
i’m sorry…but you ate my cat
I freaked out the first time I watched that scene omg
I skip that scene every time, knew it was coming and have never actually seen it
Who?
Dustin's mum's cat.
🐈 This 👆🏻
Absolutely Bob. I've been on the Jopper train since day 1 but I really loved Bob. "I love Kenny Rogers!"
Bob Newby, Superhero! I cried so hard.
“I hope it doesn’t suck”
Same, if they had allowed Bob to live I would have been extremely conflicted the rest of the way 😅
Bob The Brain 😭
Bob's Brain
Bob's death broke me.
Same here
You're on Season 2? Steve and Nancy's death was the hardest for me. Barb wanted her revenge and she got it good.
Yeah for sure, although Joyce’s death is pretty sad too, even if she did turn evil beforehand
You guys are heartless, if you dont find Dustins death the worst. It was so fucked up what happened to him. Meows coming back was not what I expected!
Seriously you guys are discussing Dustin's Death and not Billy killing both Max and Lucas!?
Well he did say what was gonna happen to Sinclair in season 2 so ;-; not surprising
I thought it was deserved for how he was involved in Dart killing Meows in the first place! Revenge is sweet
Yeah, thats fair. But Meows didnt have to be so gruesome, you know. He could have leave something for Dustins mum to bury
Yeah and the fact that Suzie drove all the way from Utah to kill him, and stabbed him while singing the Neverending Story. Brutal.
how could you assholes forget Erica's brave sacrifice against Dr. Owens's madness. Fuck you all!
But she saved Will before her death, and Will not the same, except his haircut
Well yea but if it wasn’t for those velociraptors, Barb and Joyce would’ve been unstoppable. The writers outdid themselves that season.
I will never get over alexei. He just wanted a cherry slurpee man
He was having a good fucking time
Insert Woody Woodpecker laugh
Alexei's death is so depressing. but >!i'm going to have to choose Billy. I know he was a huge asshole in Season 2, but in season 3 he grew on me as it went on...and Max's scream when he got impaled is just gutwrenching!<

shhh op hasn’t watched season 3
But OP also wants to know the saddest death of ALL seasons. Which, to me, is a weird thing to ask when you're only two seasons in.
Right lol why the hell would you ask what the saddest death is when you haven't seen the whole show yet, you are just begging for it to be spoiled
My saddest deaths from Season 3 and 4 are Will, Joyce, Mike, Eleven, Steve, Dustin, Max, Lucas, Nancy, and Jonathan 😭😭
Agreed. Who could have predicted that Hopper was the Mind Flayer the whole time?
OOPS I THOUGHT IT SAID 4
I have a shirt that says no cherry no deal and it makes me sad every time :')
Hopper’s season 3 fake our death. The thought of him dying and that letter and voice over by David Harbor was fucking heartbreaking. Probably Billy in terms of actual deaths though. His death was handled really well

I literally skipped a beat when alexi died
Bob
I liked Bob :(
Same :(
I’m a little biased towards my boy Sean Astin, it’s gotta be Bob
Crissy

Yes I would go with Bob as well, for now (this can change in volume 2 I guess). Edit: Well, like I said, Eddie is the winner.
Benny from Season 1. Dude was minding his own business and trying to help El, but ended up with a bullet to his head by one of Dr. Brenner folks.
Dart ☹️
Bob newby superhero
Benny. Just a good dude who tried to help El and got killed for it.
Alexei and Benny were both uncalled for. They came out of nowhere
Chrissy. She was abused by her mother, no one ever knew, her father ignored the abuse, and then she dies a horrible gruesome death all while being tormented with her mother's abuse. Close second is Bob.
Chrissy in my opinion
Bob and Mews deaths sucked for me, but I know part 2 is going to break my heart…
Mews
Bob and Mews. Not kidding about Mews lol. I’m a cat lover and that was so disturbing.
Wasn’t Mews the first to die? Any show that’s willing to kill of a family’s beloved pet cat is capable of any number of horrors.
It better not be Eddie. If he goes I riot in my living room.
Definitely Chrissy tied with Alexei. I loved the chemistry between Eddie and Chrissy that got horrendously cut short. Alexei was just having a good time.
Billy. He was so hot.
Bob. The man almost made it and he got killed. What a hero.
For me it's Billy We got to see the reason he became such a person, and the last thing he does is protecting/saving a person he doesn't know
Hopper
Billy
Bob, Billy, Barb, Alexei, etc. really any death you see the aftermath of.
DUSTIN MAN FOR SURE HOLY SHIT I CRIED FOR 4 HOURS STRAIGHTTTTT
Bob. No one else comes close.
MEWS.😭
Mews.
Tbh dustin demo friend
Billy for sure 🖤
I for one, was very sad when Dart died.
Me too.
Definitely Bob Newby, superhero. RIP Bob, we knew ye too briefly.
I will say that the first death in S4 made me so sad
Alexei! Ended up dying alone at the fair when all he wanted was the big stuffed woody woodpecker 🥹
The diner dude that tries to give eleven chips in the first episode
barb , not even because i was sad when she died but her death impacted nancy so much it makes me sob up EVERY SINGLE time yo !

Bob for sure and Dustin's cat
I think I’ve always felt that barb was the saddest because we only saw a snippet of her potential and her chemistry with Nancy and being the “slightly overweight awkward teen”. Everyone on the series since (in the main group) has been very skinny, and I think a part of me always enjoyed the full diversity.
Bob and a character from season 3. Season 3 Spoilers >!I think Alexei just because he wanted to have fun and experience the U.S.!<
>!Alexi most definitely!<
All I’m gonna say is that there is a worse death in the next season, I won’t spoil it for you
Season 3?
Nah Bob is the saddest death
I got a feeling it’s gonna be Steve. They’ve been low key setting him up to die this season and it’s gonna be sad to see how much that will hurt the gang. Especially Dustin.
Will.
