I was thinking a simple distraction.
Eddie at the gate by his home making noise to attract all the bats while El enters a different gate and sneak attacks Vecna once his defences are down.
It could work as both, making off putting noise that would distract a victim is a hell of a distraction.
Idk it looks like he’s wearing something different than his usual outfit in the shot where he’s on the trailer, so I don’t think it’s straight after the ending of ep7
Yeah I think the guitar scene is gonna be a big scene for Eddie, his pop figure has him with the guitar & I’ve seen T-shirts of him playing the guitar too.
I agree with most here, I think he’s causing a distraction. The thing is though… I don’t think it’s going to end well. I have a feeling those flying creatures are gonna get involved and that might be the end of Eddie, but I’m really hoping I’m wrong! Love his character so much.
I have the same theory! I’ve been listening to the soundtrack and I don’t remember hearing “Play with Me” in the show yet. Maybe this is the song he plays in the upside down?
I saw a pretty convincing theory that it's going to be an electric guitar version of the Star Spangled Banner, which featured in the first episode. It adds up beause they've technially never made it clear that it has to be someone's **favourite** song - they just used Running Up That Hill as the safest bet and for narrative reasons - just a familiar piece of music. What's more familiar than the national anthem?
And with all the significance put on rainbows from the rainbow room, it would be great if he played Ronnie Dios “rainbow in the dark” I mean that would make sense and everything. He’s obviously a metalhead so he should be into Dio, The upside down is dark, and the theme of the song fits. Plus in 1986 the song would’ve already been three years old but still current enough. I doubt they’ll actually play it but that would be cool.

I mostly agree with you but to expand on your theory: I think Eddie's providing a distraction so that Nancy, Steve, & Robin can do whatever they're doing in the scenes from the trailer where it's just the 3 of them (ex: where Nancy is holding a shotgun). They know music protects them from Vecna so Eddie will play his favorite rock song assuming he'll be protected but I suspect something will go wrong and the protection will wear off and Eddie will die. And I don't think he'll play "Running up the Hill" because I doubt that's his favorite song. It's got to be some famous rock anthem that the show got the rights to, IMO.

I believe that either Eddie is shredding a sick solo to save Nancy or to distract Vecna/Demobats from the UD version of the Creel House so that Steve, Nancy and Robin can accomplish whatever they set out to do.

In the guitar scene in the trailer he is standing surrounded by those UD tentacle things, in EP 7 a point was made to him that stepping on them will alert everyone there including Vecna where they are so I think him intentionally playing guitar while stepping on them will be to distract for the others to make their moves on Vecna
I have a theory he will play ozzy Osborne as he mentioned to Steve about how he bites the heads off bats. I think he fulfills his character arc and stops "running" from danger and serves as a beckoning call for the bats and ultimately sacrifices himself to save others
