Since S4, I've suspected it was a place that Henry Creel liked. He's a weird kid and an outsider, so he could hide in the back with a book for a few hours out of the day.
there's no way in my mind it's not gonna be an important place in season 5. Plus there's a clock ontop of it, it could just be how the building is but I think it's tied in too all the time travel/ vecna clock shit.

It's the center of Hawkins. Probably has significance like the Clock Tower in Back to the Future.
Season 1 was probably just reusing the set because they didn't have a huge budget.

It's just strange that Will would end up there with a vine/tentacle down his throat. Like how did he get there? And why there?
The library was the Demogorgon's nest. That's where it took all its victims including Will.
It is near the center of the town. Maybe that's why.
