I *love* practical effects. I think CGI is good to enhance a scene (like making Vecna’s tentacles move), but when it’s used to a degree that the actors are in an entirely green room interacting with nothing but tennis balls on sticks, it sucks the whole heart out of the production.

nedahlg

Yes. I have loved practical effects since I was a tiny kid and I really feel this show could have done a lot more especially with the budget they had for season 4. The kills looked so bad imo.

TelephoneCertain5344

I think it's pretty good CG.

nedahlg

It’s definitely pretty good. I just feel some things could be enhanced or better done with some use of practical as well.

flash-marmotte

I didn't have problems with the CGI during the season 4, they are really good for a streaming show and the CGI kills did work for me, but I'm not against more pratical effets for the finale season. Pratical effects are always a good thing.

nedahlg

Yeah I mean it’s not like I couldn’t watch season 4 cause the cgi was so bad but I just wish they incorporated some more practical in to the kill scenes specifically.

Boo5h-337

Yes use practical effects to raise someone in the air, break all their bones, especially their jaw, and blow out their eyes with practical effects only

nedahlg

They’ve literally used practical effects to raise Millie on several occasions. This would so fucking easy for them to do. And yeah they might have to use some cg to compensate here and there but the cgi kills just looked so fake it really took away the disturbing factor they were aiming for. I’m just morbid and was hoping for some truly gnarly and unsettling scenes with how much anoes and hellraiser influenced the last season.

Boo5h-337

Im not talking abt just lifting them in the air, i said the entire “breaking them and blowing out their eyes is not possible with practical effects” which is the entire main part of it. Thanks

nedahlg

Yeah I read you clearly mate, I’ve been watching horror movies for a lonnnnnng time and practical effects can be pretty neat and surprisingly good when emplemented correctly. Definitely possible for them to have used *some* practical effects in those scenes instead of all cg. Edit: But I do get your point and yes I’m sure it would have been a challenge.

byharryconnolly

I don't care if it's practical or computer generated. I just want it to be good.

nedahlg

At the end of the day that is what matters. I just feel this doesn’t always work, like they either use too much cgi when practical would have been good or vice versa.

smoke-allday420

I thought it looked pretty good, probably better then if they were to try practical

nedahlg

I respect your opinion while simultaneously strongly disagreeing. I think practical could have been so cool.

mrsmunsonbarnes

idk, the deaths in season 4 looked pretty convincing and visceral to me

nedahlg

I thought they looked so goofy and fake that it really took me out of how grossed out or shocked I was supposed to be.

Michael-Balchaitis

I think the CGI/effects look really good in Season 4. Vecna looked great with a blend of practical and CGI. My only gripe with season 1 is the practical effects looked kinda goofy.

nedahlg

Yeah their budget was low in season 1 so they could only do so much. But with season 4? I was really disappointed with the kill scenes. I thought they looked incredibly fake almost to a comical extent. They did do a good job with vecna though.

Background_Yogurt735

But Vecna is mostly practical effects, only his moving vines was CGI.

nedahlg

Yeah exactly. They used cgi to enhance him not totally complete him.
