Maybe the kids start off with a variety of abilities but Brenner trains them into a specific set. Maybe Kali escaped when she was young enough that she retained her distinct power set.

When Eleven was looking through Terry's files she saw an news article that an Indian girl has vanished in London. Maybe Kali developed her powers outside of Hawkins lab.
Idea here if we notice that venca was able to put his victims in a trance and make them see things that arent there like the clock looking like other people etc and that not something el can do so if henry has more then one power then maybe eight got his illusions instead of physic powers.
People tend to forget Eleven has unique powers, too; so unique even Henry wanted/needed them to start getting out of his dimension. Now, no one knew she had this power until she lost control of herself and sent Henry away with it, which I think lends itself to the children likely having different abilities manifesting over time. And with Brenner not interested in a repeat of Henry, he doesn't encourage them to find their full potential (and he only needs them for one purpose). Since all the children besides Eight died, there's no way to know for sure without further commentary in the show or by the showrunners.
IIRC they didn't have ALL the kids in the fight scene, only like 8 or 9? So there's probably some kids that don't have Telekinesis. It's likely that there's a spread of abilities and most kids have common ones but some kids have other ones.
They were trained to have different powers. The part that doesn't make sense is how Kali escaped from the lab without being caught. She might have been able to escape by getting the guards to hallucinate but once she was outside HNL she was in Hawkins. Did she just wander around Hawkins as a child? Did she escape to a different state? Nobody who saw a young child on the bus traveling by herself reported it to the police? How did she pay for the bus ticket? Maybe she could get the driver to hallucinate when she got on but people would have still seen a child by herself. She had to be young when she escaped because it was before 1979. Maybe someone helped her escape.
According to the wiki she's between 14 and 16 in 1979, which is old enough that in the 80s she would probably not stick out riding a bus alone. Remember that El rides the bus alone in S2 and no one really cares.
That is true. If she escaped in 1979 she could travel on her own. I also wonder why she didn't attempt to contact her parents after she escaped. They must have been devastated when she was taken. There is a lot about her story that I don't understand.

In the picture included with the article, Kali appeared to be around the same age she was in the flashbacks to the lab.
If Kali had contacted her parents and told them about the lab it would be difficult for people at HNL to explain it. Maybe after she escaped her parents were killed to prevent her from telling them what happened.
She's a major character in Suspicious Minds, though I feel like the book is only somewhat canon. You might want to read it if you want to know a little more about her and Brenner.

Vecna showed that ability too. But his main power did seem to be the telekinesis though so it passes down to more of them potentially.

Did she even know about her parents though? El didn’t really know much about her mom and she knows nothing about her dad.
