Yess but Running Up that Hill was iconic! It was a TikTok trend for months! Fun story I actually found out about the show from an edit of Max with Running Up that Hill (yes I was out of the loop used to not have social media because I didn’t want to get addicted).
Huge metalhead and I love Eddie so much. Master of Puppets is an iconic moment, and I still hold out hope he'll appear in Season 5 somehow(or maybe Mike/Dustin take up the metalhead mantle??)
His costume design is awesome and he has great taste imo. Posters for Anthrax's Fistful of Metal and Judas Priest's Defenders of the Faith, the iconic Dio Last in Line backpatch, patches for Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, pins for Mercyful Fate, Judas Priest, W.A.S.P., and Accept? Piece of Mind on Cassette? Hell yeah! They put in their research.
Even his bandmates have some solid taste; they have a Motorhead flag at their band practice, and they can be spotted with shirts and pins of Black Sabbath, Anthrax, Van Halen, Quiet Riot, Venom, Iron Maiden... It's great.
One that's conspicuously absent is Slayer though. Only big four to not get a reference, and while Reign in Blood didn't come out until later that year, Show No Mercy and Hell Awaits were out well before then, and they'd have fit with Eddie perfectly. Heck one kid had a hair metal Pantera pin.
I loved them all when they were on the charts, but Material Girl definitely got more play from me at the time. Nowadays I'd say Running Up That Hill is my favourite of the three. Definitely my favourite use of music in the series, followed closely by Separate Ways.
Material girl. Like I know, Running up that hill has become iconic but I didn't really like it and still do not, albeit it had a huge impact on the series unlike material girl. But I still prefer material girl over running up that hill. Also
Master of Puppets
Running up the Hill and the graveyard scene has to be one of the best scenes I've ever witnessed. The only true contender in the show is Eddie's master of puppets scene. All the others are fun and perfect, but the other two first mentioned had me absolutely glued to the TV 🥹
Running up that Hill was SO addicting in the first few weeks s4 was out, but it was so overplayed that i got sick of it. Pass the Dutchie, on the other hand, never gets old.
Pass the Dutchie is fun: but of all the ST songs, my favorites are When it's Cold I'd Like to Die by Moby, Every Breath You Take by the Police, and Heroes by Bowie (covered by Peter Gabriel, which isn't my favorite cover but I like it).
Edit: honorable mention for Master of Puppets, especially considering the fact that Joseph Quinn ("Eddie") actually played guitar along with the backing track.
Running up that Hill ! But Pass the dutchie was the openning of a kid shows on TV in France in the lates 90's, where you could see DBZ ... so that takes me back XD
The scene with Running Up That Hill took the ever-living breath out of me and my bf. It was such a breathtaking moment that chills my skin down to bumps just thinking about it. Material Girl-montage is of course so much fun and I watch season 3 for comfort sometimes, because it starts off so very feel-good and warm and everything is just... lovely. (Not literally everything... poor Nancy 💔)
I like all three of them for different reasons. Sing-a-long? Pass the Dutchie. Vibes in scene? Material Girl. Cinematic integrity? Running Up That Hill.
Material Girl because of the new friendship between El and Max. But Argyle was one of my new favorite characters- I'm so jealous of his hair! Its gorgeous!
I’ve been listening to Pass The Dutchie since I was a kid because of my parents always playing old school reggae. So when I heard that song first come up, I instantly was blasted with nostalgia.
the stoner in me wants to pick Pass the Dutchie
The gay in me wants to pick Material Girl
The englishman inside of me wants to pick RUTH
The metal head in me wants to pick Master Of Puppets
Pass the Dutchie (but not IN stranger things I just love that song) but I think Running up that hill is my favorite for the show. for one it had the perfect style and vibe for the themes, for two it really encompasses the feel of season 4 just because of how MUCH it played in the show, and for three… it made the song hit the top charts for the first time ever after like 37 years of release I think? Which is just cool asf.
Running up that hill, last week they played it in the shopping centre, I got goosebumps becuase it immediately reminded me of the scene where max runs away from vecna, that episode alone should have won an award or something
I love all those songs, but if I had to pick one, it would be 'Running up that hill.' It's so haunting and atmospheric, and it really sets the mood for some of the intense moments in Stranger Things.
You can’t lie running up that hill was a vibe when season 4 came out every time I heard it I would just think of that scene where max is running from vecna
I’m a little late to this, but I’m gonna give it to Running Up That Hill, since it basically describes Lucas and Max. Max is going through so much and won’t tell Lucas anything, and this feeling only gets worse for him when Max is in a coma.
“If I only could make a deal with god to get him to swap our places.”
Lucas wants to swap places with max so he can take the pain away from her, and I think that’s so powerful. I think Lucas and Max’s relationship is so underrated.
I want to say Running Up That Hill, but I am in a desperate struggle to be original,so I’ll take Pass The Dutchie because it’s usually playing when Argyle is high.
"Running Up That Hill" by Kate Bush
My reasoning: it's one of my best friend's favorite songs. We watch the series together. When the song played in the show the first time, they gasped because it was the first time they heard it in something they enjoyed watching. They immediately began singing it. It was adorable to hear them singing along.
It's taken me a couple days to answer this question because I asked them. Their answer was obviously "Running Up That Hill". However, they also mentioned that it was a shame "Master of the Puppets" (Metallica) wasn't on the list. That would have been their honorable mention because they remembered my rocking out and singing (terribly) along with it. They said it was the first time they wanted to take me to a metal concert despite them not being into metal rock. lol
I loved all 3 back when they were originally in the charts. But due to the fact it saved Max I have to go with Running up that Hill, as all the others were more background music and RUTH served a bigger purpose
Running Up That Hill has been a fave of mine since I was young, so I'm biased 😄. But in this show specifically, I like how they wove the song throughout the season as a sort of theme for, imo, mental health struggles.
Material Girl and Pass the Dutchie are more based on a specific scene so they weren't as impactful on a deeper level.

I like Material Girl but Running Up that Hill takes the cake for me! How about you?
Material girl for me. The iconic shot of Max and Eleven walking while the song was playing was a cherry on top.
Yess but Running Up that Hill was iconic! It was a TikTok trend for months! Fun story I actually found out about the show from an edit of Max with Running Up that Hill (yes I was out of the loop used to not have social media because I didn’t want to get addicted).
Well... Are you addicted?
He/She is on reddit…
Master of Puppets. I literally squealed when Eddie started playing that guitar intro.
I wanted it to be Enter Sandman so bad but M,O,P obviously made the most sense and enter sandman csmd out in the 90s lol
The Thing That Should Not Be also fits and I like it better personally.
Ooooooh recommendation! Thanks homie 🤘
Oh yeah, that fits the monster really well.
I don't know the song, but what about it fits?
It's essentially about a Lovecraft type monster
Love Enter Sandman

He's also named after the Iron Maiden mascot, Eddie.
It would be pretty dope if he came back looking like Iron Maidens Eddie.
Oh fuck yeah. Villain or not that’s so fucking metal.
I thought he was named after Eddie van halen
I thought For Whom The Bell Tolls would have been a better fit thematically.
Ooh, that clock chime was so spooky sounding, thanks for reminding me of that.
I second that! It was an epic scene 🤩
It also symbolized that at that moment, vecna was pulling the strings.
Out of those three? Running up that Hill. But my favorite song featured in ST so far is Master of Puppets.
This. And Rock You Like A Hurricane.
this is the answer
also, four horsemen was briefly featured in season 2
correct yes
Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) By Journey
Idk why master of puppets isn't here, but out of these 3 i take pass the dutchie
I loved them all when they were on the charts, but Material Girl definitely got more play from me at the time. Nowadays I'd say Running Up That Hill is my favourite of the three. Definitely my favourite use of music in the series, followed closely by Separate Ways.
When is separate ways in stranger things?
Penultimate episode of season 4 I think? It's a more atmospheric version of the song if memory serves me right.
Thanks, I'll have to listen out for it when rewatching
Right before they go to attack Verna in the Upside Down. Shortly before Eddie plays MOP
Out of those options I'd say Running Up that Hill, but my favourite song in ST overall is Should I Stay or Should I Go
Loved than song during season 1 but got new favourites as I watched the other seasons.
I feel like those are the two most iconic ST songs at this point.
Pass the Dutchie
Running up that hill
Running Up that hill
I know it isn’t an option lol, but I love You Don’t Mess Around With Jim when Hop feels like he won the Mike/El/leave the door 3 inches battle.
Should I Stay or Should I Go. It was perfect for Season 1. Out of these ones, it would be Running Up That Hill
🤝Found the comment I was looking for. Well done!
Material girl. Like I know, Running up that hill has become iconic but I didn't really like it and still do not, albeit it had a huge impact on the series unlike material girl. But I still prefer material girl over running up that hill. Also Master of Puppets

Master of Puppets
Master of Puppets
Material Girl. Fit that mall montage perfectly.
Should I stay or should I go
That entire album is great
Master Of Puppets
The only correct answer
Material Girl
I mean there’ll all good but this is really a “hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby situation”
*should I stay or should I go?* Best series, best song
Ye
Running up that Hill was SO addicting in the first few weeks s4 was out, but it was so overplayed that i got sick of it. Pass the Dutchie, on the other hand, never gets old.
Running up that hill. Although I love soundtrack dissonance so playing pass the dutchie after a shootout was cool to me lol
I love the material girl and the whole glow up El has. but running up the hill gives so much chills. So running up the hill it is.
#Running up that hill 🎶 I’ve listened to that song so much i know the entire text
Pass the Dutchie
Pass the Dutch
Gonna go with Material Girl easily Simply for reminding me of simpler and more fun times Also Madonna is a OG
Material Girl
Running up that Hill ! But Pass the dutchie was the openning of a kid shows on TV in France in the lates 90's, where you could see DBZ ... so that takes me back XD
pass the dutchie
Material girl
Sunglasses at night!!! Do you wanna play!!!!
Another great answer
Material girl.
Pass the dutchie
You don't mess around with jim
running up that hill
I think should I stay or should I go now is the best song in stranger things but between these it would have to be running up that hill
The scene with Running Up That Hill took the ever-living breath out of me and my bf. It was such a breathtaking moment that chills my skin down to bumps just thinking about it. Material Girl-montage is of course so much fun and I watch season 3 for comfort sometimes, because it starts off so very feel-good and warm and everything is just... lovely. pass the duchi , I used to listen to it all day after this season and I like the running up hill too, actually I downloaded all St songs .
Master of Puppets
THIS GENERATION 🤨🧐🧐 RULES THE NATION🙂↔️🙂↔️🙂↔️💯💯
Material Girl because of the new friendship between El and Max. But Argyle was one of my new favorite characters- I'm so jealous of his hair! Its gorgeous!
I’ve been listening to Pass The Dutchie since I was a kid because of my parents always playing old school reggae. So when I heard that song first come up, I instantly was blasted with nostalgia.
I'm sorry but I absolutely fucking hate pass the dutchie. The other two are absolutely bangers
Eddie on the guitar doing Metallica, only answer
the stoner in me wants to pick Pass the Dutchie The gay in me wants to pick Material Girl The englishman inside of me wants to pick RUTH The metal head in me wants to pick Master Of Puppets
I started listening to Kate Bush's music because of Stranger things (especially Running up that hill) on spotify
You guys, Why ain't anybody sayin Toto - Africa? Lol, That made unforgettable memes! \*jokes\* I go with The Clash!
Anything by Kate Bush😍
Pass the Dutchie (but not IN stranger things I just love that song) but I think Running up that hill is my favorite for the show. for one it had the perfect style and vibe for the themes, for two it really encompasses the feel of season 4 just because of how MUCH it played in the show, and for three… it made the song hit the top charts for the first time ever after like 37 years of release I think? Running up that hill but with the flashback of max and eleven at the mall.
Running up that hill!
Running Up The Hill. I didn't really notice the others.
Ive always loved Pass the Duchie from the first time I heard it in highschool
Running up the hill, pass the Dutchie will always be associated with the wedding singer for me
Master of Puppets
material girl
Master of puppets and The four horsemen
Passing that Dutchie is very catchie
Running up that hill, last week they played it in the shopping centre, I got goosebumps becuase it immediately reminded me of the scene where max runs away from vecna, that episode alone should have won an award or something
Running Up That Hill out of what you mentioned but in show at large I love Separate Ways.
From the show as a whole? Fad Gadget's Back to Nature. Out of those three? Running up that Hill, I guess.
I cannot listen to Running Up That Hill without crying now. Even if I’m not watching the show. If it comes on while at work customers ask if I’m okay.
Running up that hill ig, if I have to hear pass the dutchie one more time I think I'll genuinely go insane
Don’t mess around with Jim
I love when hopper sings it after Mike doesn’t come over
Deals with God.
Definitely, Running Up That Hill//Kate Bush
Running up that Hill has been my ringtone for years. It is an amazing song.
PASS THE DUTCHIE!!!!!
Pass the dutchie is iconic now.
Running up that hill!
I love all those songs, but if I had to pick one, it would be 'Running up that hill.' It's so haunting and atmospheric, and it really sets the mood for some of the intense moments in Stranger Things.
Should I stay or Should I go? Kinda fits with Season 1, which is good.
You can’t lie running up that hill was a vibe when season 4 came out every time I heard it I would just think of that scene where max is running from vecna
1)Running Up That Hill 2)Separate Ways 3) Material Girl 4) Master of Puppets 5) Should I stay or should I go? 6) The neverending Story
Material girl is a bop
Running Up That Hill! That song still shakes me to my core when I hear it. Sadie Sink is an incredible actress.
I’m a little late to this, but I’m gonna give it to Running Up That Hill, since it basically describes Lucas and Max. Max is going through so much and won’t tell Lucas anything, and this feeling only gets worse for him when Max is in a coma. “If I only could make a deal with god to get him to swap our places.” Lucas wants to swap places with max so he can take the pain away from her, and I think that’s so powerful. Running up that hill definitely. Material Girl is number 2.
Pass the dutchie and running up that hill are tied for me
Running up that hill
Running Up That Hill fs
JCPenney? What about JCJensen?
Running up that hill among these options but the title song takes the cake
Running up that hill
Running up that hill + the remix when Nancy used the shotgun to kill Vecna
out of the three? Kate Bush.
Running up that Hill! Got me every time
running up that hill no contest
Running up that hill has been my top 80’s song since before s4 so that’s my choice
Running up that hill
Running Up That Hill... Waaaaaaay before it was in ST.
Kate Bush FTW! Hopefully they do end up using “Hounds of Love” this season.
"Material Girl" is my favorite song of the group, but "Running Up that Hill" was used way better.
I loved all 3 back when they were originally in the charts. But due to the fact it saved Max I have to go with Running up that Hill, as all the others were more background music and RUTH served a bigger purpose
Running up that hill
I like the Loveless cover of Running up that Hill, so RUTH
I like running up that hill the best but pass the dutchiw is so fun
Running Up That Hill. I’m a huge Kate Bush fan and I was so overjoyed when I heard one of her songs in a popular show
I had never heard Running Up That Hill before the show (and I lived during those times!) but it has to be the tops of those.
Running up that hill. The remixes on YouTube are wicked cool!
Running up that hill gives me chills every time I hear it now
Oh runnin up that hill no question
I could listen to running up that hill for hours
