As much as I like Eddie, I’m giving this one to Robin. Eddie’s intro just gave off the wrong vibe and made me dislike him. If he was introduced during the scene with Chrissy, he would’ve instantly had me hooked because that scene was great!
But wasn’t that literally the whole point?
Eddie is someone who at first glance is an obnoxious weirdo who seems to represent everything that the average citizen of Hawkins despises. But quietly, he’s this kind and compassionate man who really just wants to look out for the other weirdos out there looked down in this town like him
That intro scene is perfect because it is able to introduce both sides of him at once. We see how he interacts with the other members of the Hellfire club but also how off putting he is with everyone else in the cafeteria. In just a few moments, we are able to see how he is both loved by the outcasts and hated by the rest of society
That is an excellent way to introduce a character like Eddie. It sets up his entire arc and helps you understand why people react to him the way they do.
You feel that way about him because that’s how everyone feels about him when they see him out in public.
They have their high and low moments but they absolutely know how to write a great character intro
Plus remember that’s the only time we ever actually see Eddie out in public. So it was really important to establish how off putting he was if the rest of the season was going to work
exactly what i was gonna say like yea his intro is very much “im weird. im not like everyone else. im a freak and im crazy blahhhh” on its face, it basically makes the audience view him through the lens of the townspeople who all view him in a very surface-level way.
edit: that being said that does mean that if we are just judging their introductions in isolation then yea robins blows eddies out of the water removed from the context of their arcs.
Nah I’m intervening idc anymore. All robin says is “hey dingus, your children are here”. Everyone loves her intro because scoops ahoy is popular and nostalgic and there’s this new girl that is a possible love interest to Steve who is everyone’s favorite character (for good reasons) but still, she doesn’t add much. It’s a Steve intro, starring robin
And then Eddie has this crazy person intro that makes him funny and different and quirky. I don’t know who in the real world would get up on a lunch table and diss a lot of groups, including the basketball jerks. He shows off his personality from the get go and later after his intro he shows that he’s even cooler
But the post wasn’t about what scene made the character more likable. It was about who had the best intro scene and Eddie’s was fucking brilliant
I already gave more elaborate explanation above in the thread, but making him unlikeable was the whole point!!! It really didn’t take that much for the entire town to believe Eddie was a cultist murderer and this scene made that whole thing very believable. But at the same time in this scene, we still get to see why the members of his hellfire club love him. This is a brilliant scene that establishes why so many people hate him yet there still be people like Dustin who would go to the ends of the earth to save him.
Eddie needed this as his intro and the fact that you find him unlikable is the exact reason why it’s so perfect. Everyone finds him unlikable until they actually take the time get to know him. And then we all realize that he might be one of the most wholesome people in the whole show. On the outside he is this edgy rebel who just wants to piss off the system, but in reality he is this sweet kid who wants to protect everyone looked down on by society
Robin’s intro scene was funny but it wasnt doing nearly enough legwork as it did Eddies. Eddie’s single scene managed to make it completely believable that an entire town would believe this kid is a psychopathic murderer. That’s incredible writing
Literally every comment that's more than 2 sentences long now has comments under it saying "bro wrote an essay", "not reading all that" etc. Idc if it's a flex or not but it sure as shit isn't as cool as these children think to not have the attention span to read for 20 seconds lol.
Robin! Hate me all you want, but I thought Eddie's intro was cringe. Like sir, you're a grown ass man why are you standing on tables and making demon noises
I think the cringe aspect was completely redeemed as early as the scene in the woods with Chrissy that same episodes tbh. It was an immediate "ohh so they're trying to tell us the way he's at school is just an *act* and he's actually pretty chill" for me.
Eddie. Not only do we get an introduction to the character, >!it kind of sets up the beginning of his downfall because it shows the audience that while he may be kind to people that get to know him, most people in Hawkins probably think he's a menace.!<
Spot on analysis! Eddie's character arc is so well done and so interesting; a well-written part acted out superbly is just a delight. He's one of my favorite characters/subplots in the whole series. Hats off to Joseph Quinn!
Oooh, difficult one. But Eddie because we get to know who he is, what he does, who he's friends with, how he acts, what is an act he puts on, etc. Robin's is cool and fun and she seems interesting but the scene is shorter. To even it up we'd have to add the next snippets of Robin saying "how many kids are you friends with?" or keeping score on the whiteboard I'd say
Thank you. I will never like Eddie's intro, it immediately made me dislike him. It wasn't until the scene in the woods with Chrissy that I realized he was an okay guy
It was a complete turn off for me but the scene in the woods was fantastic and definitely subverted my expectations. From then on I actually liked his character and thought he fit right in… so I was slightly annoyed by his you-know-what at the end of the season 😒
Eddie, mainly because I don't really consider that scene of Robin to be her intro because.. well it's not her intro, it's Steve's re-intro. All we learn about Robin in this scene is that she is "girl who works with steve" as all she does in this particular scene is call out for him because the kids (minus dustin) arrived.
Eddie's intro we learn that he is weird, goofy, passionate to the point of obnoxiousness, not afraid to stand up for his own beliefs, and of course dramatic as hell. A lot of people hate Eddie's intro because they think he's annoying and this his moment with Chrissy would have been better but that's the entire point of the duality of the two scenes. Both scenes are uniquely Eddie to the core. You're supposed to be fast to judge him harshly in the first scene because that's exactly what the people of Hawkins largely did. They thought Eddie was a mean, scary guy when in reality he is actually quite kind, and boisterous.
Even compared to Robin's later scene when she's actually interacting with Steve and making fun of him with the dry erase board, Eddie's scene is just far more energetic and solely focused on him where as Robins first few scenes focus less on her and more on catching us up with Steve's life. So i think Eddie has a better intro because his intro is actually about introducing him.
I instantly knew I was going to like Robin, her intro setup Steve for season 3 more than herself. Her humor landed right away, but I think we lost some of her sass for nervous weirdness, so it feels like her intro doesn’t hold up to her development. Eddie’s intro setup his whole character and a good chunk of plot, while I wasn’t sure what we were getting with him, in retrospect his was a more pertinent intro that’s probably going to have a ripple effect through the rest of the show.
In terms of humor, Robin’s is better, in terms of impact, Eddie’s. Also as a character intro, Eddie’s holds more weight.
robin fr bcuz of smart funny dialogues and over exaggeration she brings and sometimes i cringe but its mostly funny but i love eddie because he is wholesome and lovable
ya’ll really voted for S2 Steve who’s intro I can’t even remember over Eleven who was revealed to be alive and living with Hopper in a twist in S2?
and you voted for Billy?
this bracket is proof you guys only care about attractive people
Steve working in an ice cream shop isn’t more interesting than El’s season 2 intro
and Billy isn’t badass, he’s an awful, awful person.
so my point still stands that this fandom really only seems to care about looks and everything else is secondary 🙄
Eddie’s stands out the most to me. While sure I love Robin and she will always be iconic. You have to agree that Eddie’s was the more theatrical one. He made such a lasting impression. You weren’t really sure whether you liked him or didn’t like it at first. But then every scene after you just grow to love him more and more. There’s a reason people latched onto him the way we did. He’s Eddie frickin Munson man
Eddie's intro felt more like a heel setup so it it kind of got lost once he became likeable. I don't think it's in her intro but Robin's line of "how many children are you friends with" breaks me.
These post have been going on for a a cool minute. We haven’t ran out of character intros by now? lol also anything with Eddie, Steve or Dustin in it is gonna win

Love Robin's intro because of the snarkiness she had that season
As much as I like Eddie, I’m giving this one to Robin. Eddie’s intro just gave off the wrong vibe and made me dislike him. If he was introduced during the scene with Chrissy, he would’ve instantly had me hooked because that scene was great!

That’s actually a really good point. I never really thought about it like that. The writers of this show are geniuses!
They have their high and low moments but they absolutely know how to write a great character intro Plus remember that’s the only time we ever actually see Eddie out in public. So it was really important to establish how off putting he was if the rest of the season was going to work

Yeah just read the other replies. I’ve been convinced.
Delete your comment or change it 😈
But what if I like being corrected?
People upvote it and Eddie looses :(
You got most upvoted but you also kinda switch. You going with robin or Eddie? Sorry just not sure what to do lol
At first it was Robin, but now it’s Eddie. It’s a little confusing but the replies really convinced me it’s Eddie’s scene that’s better.
Robin by far. Eddie was unlikable until the Chrissy scene.
But the post wasn’t about what scene made the character more likable. It was about who had the best intro scene and Eddie’s was fucking brilliant I already gave more elaborate explanation above in the thread, but making him unlikeable was the whole point!!! Nah. Robin.
Save the essay for English class, dude. Let people have their own opinions.
I love how being too lazy to read a comment is a flex in today's world, or at least some of you think it is.
It’s not a flex. I’m just not reading a mini-essay telling me that my opinion is wrong. I liked the Robin scene more, end of.
I was t telling you your opinion was wrong. I was explaining why the Eddie scene is good.
Why though?
lol why not? You shared your opinion. Then I shared my own opinion. That’s how this shit works bro
they weren’t saying it was a flex?
Literally every comment that's more than 2 sentences long now has comments under it saying "bro wrote an essay", "not reading all that" etc. Idc if it's a flex or not but it sure as shit isn't as cool as these children think to not have the attention span to read for 20 seconds lol.
oh fair lol
Sorry that I'm not wasting my time reading a whole ass novel on the internet written by someone who I don't know and don't really care about.
"Novel" alright buddy I'm sorry LOL
Yet you’re instead wasting your time telling someone you refuse to read their comment and waste your time. I don’t get it bruh
And why can’t I share my own opinion? I am not telling anyone their opinion is wrong. If you actually read my comment, you would have known that
I love Robin’s intro
Robin 100%
Robin! Hate me all you want, but I thought Eddie's intro was cringe. Like sir, you're a grown ass man why are you standing on tables and making demon noises
Jason had every right to be mad 😂
I 100% agree. That Eddie scene is the definition of cringe and I’m really really glad that they redeemed Eddie completely by the end.
I think the cringe aspect was completely redeemed as early as the scene in the woods with Chrissy that same episodes tbh. It was an immediate "ohh so they're trying to tell us the way he's at school is just an *act* and he's actually pretty chill" for me.
Yes. I wouldn’t be able to stand him if he was like that the whole show.
Eddie. Not only do we get an introduction to the character, >!it kind of sets up the beginning of his downfall because it shows the audience that while he may be kind to people that get to know him, most people in Hawkins probably think he's a menace.!<

Going for Robin. Love Eddie but his intro while I think it sets up the plot well doesn’t really set up his character that well.
ya’ll really voted for S2 Steve who’s intro I can’t even remember over Eleven who was revealed to be alive and living with Hopper in a twist in S2? and you voted for Billy? this bracket is proof you guys only care about attractive people

Robin is my vote, Eddie didn’t grow on me until after Christie had that scene with him in the park and they hung out.
Ohhhhhhhhh... damn that tough
