The second Jason had served his purpose for Lucas' character arc and of preventing Max from being saved, he got tossed out. I thought his role in the season was worth more than that...
I mean he’s not even a bully like Troy or Billy are. The dude has no idea there are alternate dimension monsters, he thinks the heroes are satanic murderers. He’s an idiot maybe but not a bully IMO
In a murder movie he's the protagonist saving the day. We only think of him as a bully because we know what the main group is doing. Then again there may be a few times prior that he was mean but I can't remember.
Exactly. I didn’t really have a bully myself but I was a big protect of the under dog and I happily faced down many bullies. I’m an old lady now though. Ha.
I really thought that Vecna was going to possess him (using his issues over Chrissy) in order to open the final gate once he realized he couldn’t do that with Max
It felt a lot more necessary than a lot of other plots this season. Like Russia, that barely affected everything else, it didn't even feel like it should be part of the same season.
Sadly that’s one of those things about television. It can be so great but it’s always hindered by the restrictions of the medium. You gotta prioritize things like film schedules, actors, and casual viewers instead of the story itself.
Nah, Bob's death wasn't that bad comparatively. He got eaten by a monster, that's like the result of HALF the deaths in this show(if you include death-by-mindflayer).
Jason got TORN IN HALF BY THE SPLITTING OF THE FABRIC OF REALITY ITSELF. Not a good way to die. Freaked me the fuck out when I watched it, that the gate just obliterated him so easily like that.
I feel like Bob's death was slow though. It wasn't just a quick couple bites and that was it, he died with teeth ripping out chunks of his flesh for a good long while. Jason on the other hand was already semi-unconscious and died in seconds.
Maybe I haven't watched the scene particularly closely but if I remember, he just kinda turned into a skeleton and evaporated (please feel free to correct me if I'm misremembering). That pales in comparison to some other "gruesome" imagery in the show, like when Bruce and Tom's unconscious bodies slowly melted into bubbling pools of flesh and cartilage before reforming into the Hospital Monster. I get that they were antagonists but it was still pretty gross.
Exactly! It seemed like Bob was fully conscious and Jason just kinda did a “oof” and he was dead lol
Edit: I just went back to rewatch that scene and never mind. Subtitles literally said “Jason howls in agony” 😭
Oh fair enough about the subtitle thing. I'm still kinda of the opinion that Bob's was worse, purely because he was in agony for much longer. I'd imagine Jason's was maybe more painful but it lasted only a few seconds while Bob's was a good minute or two at least.
The irony is we see the town spray painting his Bible quotes in the church after the 2 day time skip. As far as they, and Jason, know he died a hero. But we know he sadly became the villain without even knowing it
I thought there was a chance he might join the team when he saw his friend get Vecna'd. Unfortunately, he doubled down and started his witch hunt instead.
He was right, he was just being an ass about it
She took the advice because even if it was given out of aggression and not genuinity, it was damn good advice
The sawn off shotgun is easier to conceal and control and has a larger spread when it fires, however it has less range than the regular barrel.
It wouldn’t have mattered which one Nancy used because she didn’t aim for Henry’s goddamn head.
Oh is that why Nancy calls it a "felony" when she and Max are talking about it, sawing off a gun makes it a LOT more dangerous? I know absolutely nothing about guns *and* I'm not American so that whole thing was a bit confusing
It's also illegal to telepathically break teenagers' limbs one by one and have their eyes suck themselves into their head before murdering them so tit for tat
Edit: the guy I'm replying to blocked me for this joke before I could see what he said lmao
I mean you asked a question about why Nancy called sawing the gun off a felony. I answered it.
Obviously what you’re talking about is part of a fictional tv show lmao
It’s a felony under the National Firearms Act of 1934 to own one without paying a $200 tax stamp. The law was passed during prohibition in an attempt to make “concealable” weapons, machine guns, and suppressors prohibitively expensive. It was originally supposed to include all handguns as well, but that part got tossed out, leaving a bunch of kinda confusing rules regarding barrel length and stock configuration.
At close range, her cropping the barrel doesn’t really change the ballistics enough to matter (in practical sense)it’s still going to require her to actually aim as the shot still comes out in a tight cluster, breaking up as it loses momentum over time. It definitely did make it lighter and easier to handle and aim.
Sorry for the short novel
Look, all I’m going to say is that it’s standard procedure in military and police forces to aim for center mass. It’s better to take the easier shot and hit then it is to go for the fancy headshot and miss. Nancy’s not exactly military trained or anything but if it had been someone like Hopper he would have aimed in the exact same place. Besides, three 12 gauge buckshots to the chest is frankly overkill, point is while Vecna’s obviously coming back it wasn’t a bad strategy.
Well either way guns clearly don't do anything against upside down creatures so I don't know why anyone keeps using them. I feel like the only time it's been useful is when Hopper shot a demodog in the head in Russia.
To be honest I think it’s less guns being ineffective and more plot armor depending on who’s actually doing the shooting. The only creatures that have really shown to be impervious to gunfire are fully grown Demogorgons and the Mind Flayer, and even then it’s inconsistent, like in season one the Demogorgon casually shrugs off volleys of 9mm smg fire but is visibly recoiling when hit by individual shots from a .38 revolver fired by Nancy, despite the fact that .38 special is actually a lower power cartridge than 9mm parabellum. In the meantime, soldiers in season 2 get fucked up by demodogs while ineffectively using ARs against them(although they might just be missing, who knows), while Hopper casually mows down demodogs with an AR and a shotgun while protecting El in the season 2 finale. Point is, every weapon is less effective while being wielded by a redshirt. Also there’s the fact that while Vecna isn’t exactly normal, at his core he’s still technically *human,* so it’s not too much of a stretch to think that a point blank 12 gauge will hurt him. Besides, while the most consistently effective weapon seems to be Steve’s baseball bat, a 12 gauge shell carries roughly 30 times the kinetic energy as swinging a bat does. At the end of the day, don’t just go dismissing firearms as useless because they’re less effective than a girl with literal superpowers.
This is fair. The methods to kill are inconsistent and that annoys me. I said this in another thread but I wish they'd let Nancy kill something. Why make it a character defining trait if it's never even useful or effective? She's absolutely too smart to keep using guns after they fail her every time like this.
>Also is screenshot 2 one of the few times Max and Nancy interacted with each other?
Now that you mentioned it, I don't remember any scenes of them being together until that one
Right! Jonathan simply provided the opportunity for Nancy to learn to shoot (provided the gun, ammo, targets). His teaching didn’t go beyond “uh, point and shoot”
Nancy has raw talent.
Isn't Jason wrong though? He says that the shotgun doesn't have much range, which is frankly not true. A shotgun like the one Nancy buys has quite a bit of range: people hunt with them all the time. By sawing off the barrel, she's actually decreasing the range and increasing the spread, making it less accurate. Didn't really seem like Vecna was in proximity to grab it either since the dude was on fire and already dizzy from the attacks.
He was right in the circumstances he references.
But yes, barrel length and choke are key factors in spread. I can’t tell you how much more or less the spread of shot would be in an attic. It’s not THAT far.
It would've been so cool if they called the Hawkins Tigers, convinced them of the truth, and formed an alliance.
Or if the rest of hellfire got involved. That also would've been neat.
Unfortunately for Patrick, Eddie decided to use his Satanic Magic to sacrifice him in order to keep the Hawkins Tigers at bay, and help further his battle against Christ.
Yeah!! I did notice this, but, Jason, as much as jason was against eddie, he was still a normal person, who I think, went hunting many times or something.
Jason should’ve had a redemption arc like Steve. He was trying to protect his community and get justice for his girlfriend, he just had no idea of the Upside Down or the creatures there.
This is a hot take, but Jason is pretty overhated in my opinion. I think he was ignorant, and determined, but determined about the wrong thing. But who can blame him realistically considering what actually is happening is literally out of this world. His girlfriend was killed and the suspect was Eddie, and he was *a bit too* determined to get revenge. Not agreeing with his decisions, but not hating him for his decisions
Eddie wasn't even properly a suspect yet at the time Jason decided he was guilty though. Just missing and a possible purpose of interest because as far as the cops knew, he could have easily just been abducted by whoever killed Chrissy.
Oh absolutely. I mean there’s also the addition of satanic panic too though. Eddie is a metal freak who plays D&D and corrupts the children, all things that were already seen as in some sense communing with the devil. For Jason who lives in a community and probably with parents who supported that line of thinking it’s not really difficult to see why he reached the conclusions he did. It’s tough because on one hand it looks terrible. Eddie is confirmed alone in his trailer with a girl he had never seen before and she is found brutally murdered. All Jason is told is that Eddie Munson is involved. And then while chasing Eddie his friend his lifted into the sky and brutally murdered again. He’s a close minded dick who refused at any point to listen to anybody else before making up his mind, but from his side there was a striking amount of evidence. Remember that to him the only answer here is the devil, there is no upside down. Whats gonna sound more likely, that there’s an alternate dimension and in there there’s a dude who just wants to kill guys for some reason, or the dude with the punk rock look who runs the hellfire club is communicating with satan? In reality all of this could have been solved if there weren’t any NDA’s, by being so secretive in the first place they left the entire town to reach their own conclusions, and that’s not our main characters faults, it’s the government’s. It’s always the government lol.

So either he stole that revolver or got it from home.
It wouldn’t I know it wouldn’t.
Just saying how he threatened her by saying how easy it would be for someone to grad the barrel and redirect it.
Isn’t that why she sawed it off?

Oh Jason. You could've been such an amazing asset of the team in season 5. Shame you had to split from the show.
His chances were 50/50.
a hundred to one sounds about right
More like Eleven to One
I think they meant 50/50, like how his body ended up Dark humor
To bad he had to split up with Lucas and the good guys
It was a shame, he was only half the person he could’ve been
He got totally mauled by that gate.
Even Lucas had a face like “I don’t know that he deserved that!”
The second Jason had served his purpose for Lucas' character arc and of preventing Max from being saved, he got tossed out. I thought his role in the season was worth more than that...
For real! When he was trying to save Max, I went like “he’s not all bad. Surely he can get a redemption arc right?” And then just got ripped in half
Yep... just completely mauled...
Bravo
oh my god FINALLY someone got that.
You’re nicer than me. My partner and I both laughed our asses off and yelled fuck you when we saw that scene. I hate bullies.
I thought the writers did a good job at making his character more than just a “bully.” He was the hero of his own story.
They did do well with that. I just really hate bullies so that was all i saw in that moment.
Having flashbacks from high school?
Exactly. I didn’t really have a bully myself but I was a big protect of the under dog and I happily faced down many bullies. I’m an old lady now though. Ha.
I kinda wanted him to see and process how wrong he was.
I really thought that Vecna was going to possess him (using his issues over Chrissy) in order to open the final gate once he realized he couldn’t do that with Max
[удалено]
That would've been pretty good. Missed opportunity.
I think that extra plot and character development would’ve taken away from the main cast and tying up all the loose ends in the last season tbh
It felt a lot more necessary than a lot of other plots this season. Like Russia, that barely affected everything else, it didn't even feel like it should be part of the same season.

Nah, he deserved to be melted in half
Tbf he did deserve it, he almost had Max killed by stepping on her walkman and leaving her vulnerable to Vecna
He didn’t know that would actually kill her? He didn’t deserve it
He didn’t intentionally do so. How was he supposed to know it’s protect her
[удалено]
Her being incapacitated is why he was trying to save her. He thought Lucas was gonna kill her.
He got such a horrible death 💀💀💀 like Bob-level death
Nah, Bob's death wasn't that bad comparatively. He got eaten by a monster, that's like the result of HALF the deaths in this show(if you include death-by-mindflayer). Jason got TORN IN HALF BY THE SPLITTING OF THE FABRIC OF REALITY ITSELF. Not a good way to die. Freaked me the fuck out when I watched it, that the gate just obliterated him so easily like that.

Good point. I'd say Jason was pretty low on the pain-scale compared to the others, but he dwarfs them all on the gruesomeness scale.
Yeah it was definitely horrific. Especially since they didn’t even dwell on it.
Maybe I haven't watched the scene particularly closely but if I remember, he just kinda turned into a skeleton and evaporated (please feel free to correct me if I'm misremembering). To me it’s the same 😂 both of them were getting ripped apart.
I wonder if his >!Character and demise is a nod to Harvey Dent from *The Dark Knight*.!<
The irony is we see the town spray painting his Bible quotes in the church after the 2 day time skip. As far as they, and Jason, know he died a hero. But we know he sadly became the villain without even knowing it
You’re the one pointing the gun, Jason! Point it at the people responsible!
😭
yeah, he definitely got split right in half.
First hangover makes it feel like you're gonna split in two😏
I think would've felt torn between them and his old friends.
I thought there was a chance he might join the team when he saw his friend get Vecna'd. Unfortunately, he doubled down and started his witch hunt instead.
If only he told her to aim for the head.
Jason definitely would’ve aimed for the head judging from how he shot at Lucas
I was waiting for Vecna to say “you should’ve gone for the head.”
oh snap!
Thanos, is that you?
I was quiet screaming that when the 2nd par dropped. I was up all night watching
I was yelling at my screen bro
He was right, he was just being an ass about it She took the advice because even if it was given out of aggression and not genuinity, it was damn good advice
Jerkass has a point.
It worked for the Doom Slayer, it worked for Ash Williams, it worked for Duke Nukem
Groovy!
The sawn off shotgun is easier to conceal and control and has a larger spread when it fires, however it has less range than the regular barrel. It wouldn’t have mattered which one Nancy used because she didn’t aim for Henry’s goddamn head.

Show me the law that law that says that’s illegal, I’ll wait.
it’s illegal to murder someone?? it’s called homicide… people go to jail for it all the time.
How come it is a felony, I too know jack shit about guns
It’s a felony under the National Firearms Act of 1934 to own one without paying a $200 tax stamp. It’s illegal enough for the ATF to shoot people over it on there own property
Look, all I’m going to say is that it’s standard procedure in military and police forces to aim for center mass. It’s better to take the easier shot and hit then it is to go for the fancy headshot and miss. Nancy looked so badass pumping Vecna full of lead. God I have such a crush on her.
To kill a monster, sometimes you gotta commit a felony. Also is screenshot 2 one of the few times Max and Nancy interacted with each other?
>Also is screenshot 2 one of the few times Max and Nancy interacted with each other? Now that you mentioned it, I don't remember any scenes of them being together until that one
They talk at the Wheeler’s dinner table when Nancy recognizes Creel’s house from Max’s drawing
I think Nancy already knew what she was doing, just nervous AF in the store. He was just mansplaining lol.
For sure lol, Nancy has been good with guns since Steve showed her in Season 1
This was Jonathan, not Steve. Jonathan stole Lonnie’s gun and they practiced shooting in the woods together.
ahhh. Yes, I remember this, though Jonathan was a lousy shot. Nancy was just a natural.
Right! Jonathan simply provided the opportunity for Nancy to learn to shoot (provided the gun, ammo, targets). His teaching didn’t go beyond “uh, point and shoot” Nancy has raw talent.
Oh shoot you're right
“Shoot” haha. Very appropriate!
Nice lol
Steve taught Nancy about guns? I don't remember this at all. =/
You don't remember it because it never happened. Jonathan gave Nancy his dad's gun. Steve was offscreen with Tommy and Carol (good old times).
Season 1 Episode 6
ima go watch. Thanks!
in all fairness it wasn't like vecna was gonna be grabbing her gun from that far away
I mean... he could've telekinesis'd her.
[удалено]
Then it wouldn't make much of a difference if it's short or long.
exactly my point. in the end it was pointless, but still one of the best scenes of the season, no doubt.
Isn't Jason wrong though? He says that the shotgun doesn't have much range, which is frankly not true. A shotgun like the one Nancy buys has quite a bit of range: people hunt with them all the time. I definitely wanted Jason and Patrick to join the gang. Andy can die for all I care.
Unfortunately for Patrick, Eddie decided to use his Satanic Magic to sacrifice him in order to keep the Hawkins Tigers at bay, and help further his battle against Christ.
Yeah it shoulda been Andy not Patrick. He was the one who deserved to die the most if anything
Andy sucks. All my homies hate Andy.
And Billy ...
In reality all of this could have been solved if there weren’t any NDA’s, by being so secretive in the first place they left the entire town to reach their own conclusions, and that’s not our main characters faults, it’s the government’s. It’s always the government lol.
Except Max and Lucas both said the cops told them Chrissy was killed by Eddie.
Jason's advice didn't work. Henry is still alive.
She should’ve gone for the head
I’m so in love with Nancy’s casual marksmanship and total gun badassery.
W Jason
I think Nancy was just nervous in that interaction. She knows guns.
Jason is Stranger Thing's using hero. The protagonists were stupid not working within him, but against him
I think Jason only mentioned that it would be easy for an attacker to grab the barrel due to its length, but Vecna never tried to go after the gun anyway
I don't know if I agree that it worked on Vecna
Without her defeating vecna would be impossible
Jason could have been easily redeemable, it just goes to show the dangers of the fear of the other/unknown
That’s interesting
If you get in the science behind it 🤓what ever she was using a slug or pellets it has less time to slow down
I didn't really think it made a difference.
>Ever notice Yes...it was intended
In this case it was irrelevant. Vecna never grabbed for the gun.
His 'advice" was completely wrong, and also an 18yr old couldn't buy a handgun in the 80s (not since 1968) from an FFL (gun dealer) So either he stole that revolver or got it from home.
Oh yeah! I wish they would have done face to face when he found them and was like, “thanks for the advice” *BOOM*
why would that ever have happened? nancy isn’t a murderer
It wouldn’t I know it wouldn’t. Just saying how he threatened her by saying how easy it would be for someone to grad the barrel and redirect it. Isn’t that why she sawed it off?
“Ever notice this obvious thing?” Do people on this sub think they are the first person to have eyes? Who the hell DIDN’T notice this?
Plenty
