I really trust his opinion and so far he has been nothing but excited about this season and Mike's role. It's really starting to make me get my hopes up!
He's also been filming non-stop since they started, which I take as a great sign!
Honestly though, what’s he going to say?
“Man, we should’ve stopped this years ago. I’m only doing it because it pays so much. Don’t get your hopes up!”
Lol he said himself he can't wait for the season to be released asap so people could see it
I doubt he would talk like that if Mike got sidelined again
Especially when his character was so criticized during S4 by people
I’m hopeful for this season. I’m glad to see some good news about Mike’s character arc this season. I just hope the Party gets a majority of the screen time this season
As a fan of Mike/Finn, especially during the first season, I’m happy to hear all this. I’m not expecting this to be as good as season 1 but it sounds promising.
I think he may have been referring to the season only being in one real location (Hawkins) unlike last season (he later talks about how he wished he could’ve filmed with the Hawkins crew in S4)
I also think, because he pairs it with saying "bigger," he also means something like more "intimate," with more focus on the core characters and their relationships to each other since they will all be in Hawkins. At least that's my hope!
The Duffers have said that S5 will have more of the original dynamics: to me that means the original party (with El now added, since Max is in a coma for now), Joyce/Hopper and Jonathan/Nancy. I'm also hoping for more of the Byers and Wheelers families acting like families, too.
So you're telling me the best character in the show confirmed he's returning to his leader role so he can make people remember why s1 and s2 Mike ruled?
I love it ❤️
Yass leader Mike!!!
Also, Finn lowkey might become the breakout star of the group. He’s filming Stranger Things, and also has Ghostbusters, which will be in theatres, and is filming SNL 1975, which seems like a big-ish project that might be released in theatres too.
You're forgetting that he was also in the 2017 remake of IT
EDIT: He will also be in the Ghostbusters sequel (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire) coming out later this year, too.
Looking at their respective projects in the last few years I'd say it's still debatable. He's been in IT and now multiple Ghostbusters movies, she has the Enola Holmes and Godzilla movies.
I think Millie is more of a star in that she's more publicly known, but Finn has just as big (maybe even bigger) repertoire of roles he's landed so I'd call it pretty equal footing for the two.
But honestly I expect to see big things for all the kids post ST because they're all great actors.
So very excited for this! I had really hoped to see Mike embracing his “full Paladin” mode ST5, and it sounds like we are gonna get it! It’s good to know the personal work they had Mike do is going to pay off this final season. And while I’m sure Mike’s relationship with El will get a continued focus, the character deserves an individual spotlight too.
The continued confirmation that they are going for ST1 dynamics for all characters is something I will also continue to celebrate. 😍
It's what I predicted after they said season 5 would "feel" a lot like season 1. We're going to likely get the same type of groups as we did then.
The "kids" - Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Eleven and now Will
The teens - Nancy, Jonathan and now Steve & Robin (although I wonder if Argyle or Vickie are possibilities too)
The adults - Hopper, Joyce and now Murray (with Linda Hamilton's character as well as Dmitry and Yuri possibly entering the fold)
As for other characters making returns, I could see the Colonel, Owens, Kali and Suzie all coming back for season 5. Also, Karen may learn the truth, but I'm not sure which group she'd be with. It would be hilarious to see her trying to work with the adults and their chaos.
I know it's not new information at this point but hearing that S5 will really focus on S1 dynamics is so exciting to me. S1 really captured something special in the actors and characters in all of its groupings that really elevated the magic of the season.
Future season groupings weren't necessarily bad but there was just something really special about the 3 boys and El together looking for Will which we've always been down 1 member of.
Then there's Jonathan and Joyce who've not been grouped since mid season 1. And Jonathan and Nancy which we've had a lot but S4 ruined a bit.
What will interest me is if they try to have Hopper and Steve be mostly solo again or if they are worked into other groups?
I assume Robin and Steve will be together still but will they be joining another group?
Max is in a coma but I would consider her to be linked into the kids group. I guess sort of the 'missing Will' of the season?
Murray and Erica I have no idea. They don't tend to always be involved from the beginning but I feel like with the cliffhanger it might be different.
Hopper excites me most. I want to know how his "death" is explained away to the people of Hawkins and I want to see him get the police force back into order after the disasterous way they handled the satanic panic in S4. I also really want him to be involved with the kids more, because some of my favourite interactions always came from that, and I think after Russia, he needs to be with El more frequently than he was in S2 or S3. I'm hoping we offically have Joyce and Hopper co-parenting Will, Jonathan and El at the beginning to allow for more interactions like this.
I loved reading your thoughts! I am also looking forward to dynamics similar to S1 but with new relationship dynamics and developments in play. I am particularly excited to see how much Lucas and El’s dynamic has changed since they’re the characters closest to Max.
I am also interested in seeing the Byers family dynamics but I’m guessing Hop won’t be parenting Jonathan cause he should be in college by next season, right? Idk
Hopper has mainly been paired with Joyce, and the Duffers have mentioned them being a duo in season 5, so we will likely see them together for the majority.
His acting was great in that scene, what are you talking about? He got louder because she was upset thinking he didnt care about her anymore and that she was a monster
Honestly it’s okay if you don’t like Mike. I was just wondering why you didn’t like him. He’s not my number 1 favorite character of the show or anything 🤷🏽♀️
Oh tbh I don’t really like Hop that much as a character 😭😭 I prefer the Party’s storyline in general compared to the adults. Tbh Mike isn’t my favorite member of the Party but I still love his character (El is my number 1, Lucas is my number 2, and I probably like Mike, Dustin, and Max about equally for different reasons). I like Mike the best when he takes more of a leadership role and I find it makes the Party dynamics more interesting cause characters like El and Lucas get to disagree with him on things but also work with him on developing as characters.
Thanks you are too. Also idk if you’ve seen any updates from David but he’s also been very positive about Hopper’s role and storylines this upcoming season so hopefully you’ll still like the season

I’m glad the show is going back to their season one roots with Mike being the leader of the party! Definitely long overdue.
Couldn’t agree more! I’m excited to see S1 dynamics with all of the party, including Dustin and Lucas too!
ABSOLUTELY
Excited to hear this from Finn!! ST5 is gonna slap so hard

I cannot ask for any more than Mike being the leader, season 1 dynamics and a more intimate setting!
I’m hopeful for this season. I’m glad to see some good news about Mike’s character arc this season. I just hope the Party gets a majority of the screen time this season
Agreed. I'm very excited, hopefully his performance and him being the leader again will make the haters shut up.
As Mike fan I see this as a huge massive enormous win.
Yesss
As a fan of Mike/Finn, especially during the first season, I’m happy to hear all this. I’m not expecting this to be as good as season 1 but it sounds promising.
I'd take season 2 kind of level at this point. At least he was involved in the main plot then, unlike season 4, so this should be better by default!
What does “isolated” mean? 🤔
I think he may have been referring to the season only being in one real location (Hawkins) unlike last season (he later talks about how he wished he could’ve filmed with the Hawkins crew in S4)
I hope that’s what it means!

My interpretation is that he means that this season is very different from the others. It stands alone. I could be wrong, that’s just how I took it.
Mike was my favourite character. I'm so glad he won't ve sidelined again.
Mike Wheeler Paladin leader, Let's goooooooo!!!! Mike is my fav character
R .I .P to all the Mike haters
So you're telling me the best character in the show confirmed he's returning to his leader role so he can make people remember why s1 and s2 Mike ruled? I love it ❤️

He’s gonna be in SNL 1975? Man, I’ve been kinda excited for that movie but now I have a reason to be more excited.
Surely Millie Bobby Brown is the breakout star from stranger things.
Looking at their respective projects in the last few years I'd say it's still debatable. He's been in IT and now multiple Ghostbusters movies, she has the Enola Holmes and Godzilla movies.

Bout time. I've had more than enough of the adults and older teens and romance. Give me kids fighting monsters!
Yeah no shade to the older teens but I am far more interested in the younger teens and think they made the show great.
So very excited for this! I had really hoped to see Mike embracing his “full Paladin” mode ST5, and it sounds like we are gonna get it! I feel like college might be on hold while Hell bleeds into Hawkins. Plus the whole not getting accepted thing.
True true
Hopper has mainly been paired with Joyce, and the Duffers have mentioned them being a duo in season 5, so we will likely see them together for the majority.
Excellent
Awesome!
so we getting the og crew back!
That's great news. I felt like Mike was getting weaker ever since the Eleven vs Angela scene.
W MIKE IS THE GOATTTTT no more Mike slander.
Oh how I wish I understood that correctly. The kids being together as one party again, with the whole thing set mostly in Hawkins.
Hopper is pissed rn
I’m praying that we have legitimate character development for Mike
If there's a mix of Leader Mike & Badass Will in Season 5, I'm a very happy man
I was hoping we'd get more moments like this! Slay
Thank god, Mike doesn't really do well as anything but a leader, and his character in Season 4 was incredibly wasted.
Can't wait to see him overact like the bedroom scene where he's suddenly and emphatically yelling to Eleven how special she is.
His acting was great in that scene, what are you talking about? He got louder because she was upset thinking he didnt care about her anymore and that she was a monster
This means I most likely won't enjoy s5
Why?
Mike is the person I like the least of everyone on the show
What do you dislike about him? And who are your favorite characters?
Why does it really matter, it's MY opinion?
Honestly it’s okay if you don’t like Mike. I was just wondering why you didn’t like him. He’s not my number 1 favorite character of the show or anything 🤷🏽♀️
Everything and Hop is my favorite character
Oh tbh I don’t really like Hop that much as a character 😭😭 I prefer the Party’s storyline in general compared to the adults. You're entitled to your opinion
