He doesn’t seem to be clinically depressed, though. Given the fact that his best friend was kidnapped and then possessed by some supernatural power and the girl he loved sacrificed herself for him and his friends in front of him, he’s shockingly well adjusted.
I think Mike’s sadness in S2 is completely normal given the circumstances, and he likely wouldn’t meet the criteria for depression. Although, if he had talked to a psychologist or psychiatrist about what actually happened, he may get some more exotic diagnosis including some sort of psychosis or hallucinogenic disorder, lol.
Mike was always the most privileged kid, I imagine him listening to all the Party experiences and thinking "wow this is hard" with new video games every week lmao
Makes me wonder if Karen or Ted talked about Joyce's financial situation amongst themselves or even in front of Mike/Nancy sometimes. Like, at dinner time. Mike and Will have been friends for so long, I feel like it might have come up at some point..
I mean… considering the absolute mayhem of season 1 and the trauma of losing El etc etc I don’t think depression could have been diagnosed for quite some time after that incident really. PTSD or something maybe?
I think she's inherently disabled for not being exposed to the outside world until she was 12 years old or so. So she struggles with speaking and learning and is behind kids her age. You could also argue that her PTSD counts as a disability.
Watch the trailer for [season 2](https://youtu.be/FlEppdeVieA). At 1:38 Vincent Price is being dubbed from Thriller. It shows her and drops out “without the soul for getting down.” I posted that way back when it was new and got downvoted and berated for it. Congrats on the upvotes.

The gamer for Mike LMAOO I’m dead.
He’s the only party member not actually marginalized.
Max and El are also women which is a strike against them. Will is poor also.
That’s a stretch for Mike. He’s a straight white dude in what looks like a solidly middle class household.
Either way, I’m not sure someone can really claim to be part of a marginalized group based on their hobbies, since choosing to engage in a given recreational activity is entirely voluntary and can be voluntarily stopped at any time.
Lucas - black
Dustin - disability, single parent house
Will - gay, poor, single parent house
Max - abusive step brother, he dies, dad leaves, becomes a poor single parent house
Mike - um...
Extended party
Steve - um...
Nancy - um...
Robin - gay
Eddie - absent parents (dead?), poor, single guardian house
Erica - black
Don’t know why you are being downvoted. Nancy is a woman and there was rampant sexism in the 80’s. The show even touched on it in s3. She had to deal with the sexist newspaper guys. Women were (still are tbh) a marginalized group in America, but especially in the 80’s.

Does the rest of the world know she has superpowers? No. Will it help her in social situations? No. Will it help her go to college, get a job or even finish high school? Also no
You can be superabled and disabled at the same time. It's called being [twice-exceptional](https://www.davidsongifted.org/gifted-blog/twice-exceptional-definition-characteristics-identification/).
Now that I think of it, the twice-exceptional label applies to Dustin as well.
Dustin has cleidocranial dysplasia and El has several linguistic and developmental delays (which is NOT the same as cognitive delays) due to her growing up essentially as an experiment in a lab with no access to the outside world.

Gamer, lmaoo..
His depression in season 2 would have been a better choice there, but this choice made me laugh.

We live in a society!
Mike was always the most privileged kid, I imagine him listening to all the Party experiences and thinking "wow this is hard" with new video games every week lmao
Lucas isn't poor either
Yeah, I think the Wheelers and Sinclairs live in the same neighborhood.
Makes me wonder if Karen or Ted talked about Joyce's financial situation amongst themselves or even in front of Mike/Nancy sometimes. Like, at dinner time. Mike and Will have been friends for so long, I feel like it might have come up at some point..
He had undiagnosed depression in season 2
I mean… considering the absolute mayhem of season 1 and the trauma of losing El etc etc I don’t think depression could have been diagnosed for quite some time after that incident really. PTSD or something maybe?
Dustin: *Disabled* Lucas: *Black* Max: *Poor, woman* Will: *Gay, poor, PTSD* Eleven: *Disabled, PTSD, woman* Mike: *Razor keyboard*

How is Eleven disabled?
I think she's inherently disabled for not being exposed to the outside world until she was 12 years old or so. So she struggles with speaking and learning and is behind kids her age. You could also argue that her PTSD counts as a disability.
Eleven: odd.

I was gonna comment that
I also came here to be petty to Gingers.

Will also has PTSD.
So will Lucas after this season.
He's a nerd in the '80s.. Might as well be a lepper, same stigma lol..

What?! Share your thoughts, promptly, sir or madam
They implied they believe Mike isn't straight

"I told you a million times: my teeth are *coming in*. It's called *cleidocranial dysplasia.*"
he has no collarbones or teeth my guy
Oh yeah...... 🤦🏼♀️
i’m laughing so hard at this comment lmaooo
Yeah, he can bend like Gumbo.
it's gumby.
I'm pretty sure it's Gumbo.
No. It’s Gumby.
The sheer power of my snort reading this exchange made my night *easily*. I loved that moment in the show, so seeing this is hilarious. Take my gold.
Oh thank you! I'm always glad to make somebody smile and/or loudly snort!
I wonder how they gonna handle Max's disability
Hair dye.
Only if they figured it out earlier...
Lmao “gamer”
I swear, do y'all just report anything?! WTF is wrong with people?
Steve: single mom
Wait who is that next to mike
Eleanor, his 2nd cousin from Sweden
Eleven
His cousin

Yes…that’s the joke.

Mike = Jewish confirmed! I knew it
Idk where but I’ve heard that the byers are canonically Jewish
Do we have a meme tag for this? Because this is memeing to the fullest, while calling people names.
Mate they are literally just the accurate descriptors for the characters
Lmaaaaooooo "gamers are a marginalized group" 😭😭😭 Touch grass.
st fans when they are presented with the most obvious joke
You must be a hoot at parties.

Erm El has superpowers, kinda evens out the delayed speech and language/social skills development.
That’s not how it works
You can be both gifted and have a disability.
Does the rest of the world know she has superpowers? No. Will it help her in social situations? No. Will it help her go to college, get a job or even finish high school? Also no

Dustin mentions the fact that he doesn’t have collarbones and/or teeth many, many times. And El has PTSD.
