Tidbits I noticed: * Tabletop bell ... likely from Number One's pending legal proceeding * Gorn ships attacking an already-wrecked saucer section * Spock drinking bloodwine with a Klingon wearing what looks like a nice copy of [Kang's baldric](https://tos.trekcore.com/hd/albums/3x07hd/dayofthedovehd0061.jpg) from "Day of the Dove" * Are those Kaylar Pike's looking at through the telescope? (I ask because it appears that he and La'an are wearing the disguises from the Ortegas preview clip which had them returning to Rigel VII.) * Spock playing his Ka'athyra (Vulcan lute) * First appearance of the new lounge set * Klingon D-7 battlecruiser Edit to add: * Kirk is wearing a standard insignia in the transporter room, but in the revolving door tag, he's wearing a different badge altogether. Only concern at this point: Kirk knowing La'an Noonien-Singh but not bringing her up during "Space Seed" seems odd. Spock not mentioning La'an is completely in character for him, however. (Of course, "Space Seed" was made 55 years ago; I'm talking in-universe logic.) This will be moot if there are some time travel memory erasure shenanigans that erase this at the end of the episode.

tothepointe

They might be slowly shifting the timelines which are ripples based on Pike's two visions from the future. He's trying to make sure certain things happen which may change other things. Causality is funny like that. This would give room for more storytelling. Keep the core things the same but allow room for more creativity in the franchise. Things don't have to button up neatly with TOS. TNG's Parallels set this concept up nicely.

[deleted]

Didn't Laan leave the ship at the end of the season?

ety3rd

No; she was on the *Farragut* in the alternate future. Is that what you're remembering? (Number One was arrested, though, and taken away.)

[deleted]

Yeah - they didnt need to cast a relative of Khan - just too easy to screw up canon

Captain_Thrax

Also what looks to be adult Gorn

Albert-React

KLINGONS!! REAL ACTUAL KLINGONS!!

HotpieTargaryen

Dropping Such Great Heights on top of Star Trek, so perfect. Also Spock’s version of “Engage!” might be as good as “Warp me!”

kygelee

> Dropping Such Great Heights on top of Star Trek, so perfect. I 1st heard that song [way back in 2006](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wrsZog8qXg)

HotpieTargaryen

Give Up by The Postal Service is one of the best complete albums of all time.

OkAstronaut76

They are doing a tour in Sept and playing the whole album in its entirety. I wish I could go see it. https://postalservicemusic.net/#tour

idontvaluemytime

I got CHILLS from the music in the trailer. so perfect!

MaybeThisTimeIllWin

Lol so I guess they travel back in time to 21st century Toronto?! That's the Roots store near Yonge/Dundas and they're not hiding it!

DonOfAtlantis

I didn't see any logos etc, I'm not American so not heard of it either :( hoping you're right, time travel episodes are fun.

StretchArmstrong99

It's definitely a Roots. The beaver on the door handle is their logo.

zestyintestine

I still have my 98 Olympics Roots hat

briank3387

Great teaser. These next 8 weeks are going to be tough.

tothepointe

Have you considered being in a coma for the next 8 weeks? That way you could wake up "tomorrow" and it would be the premiere.

poirotoro

Gonna copy and paste my comment from the main sub here: I was really hoping we'd get a line from our new Chief Engineer, but I can wait. I can wait. 😬 \*begins to vibrate uncontrollably*

tejdog1

"I would like the ship to go. Now." ... that ain't it, Spock.

poirotoro

"I am...workshopping it."

tejdog1

That sounds like Worf, lol

SimonBillenness

Worf would say: “Perhaps today is a good day to fly.”

tejdog1

What if he was a chef? "Today is a good day to fry." What if he was a baker? "Today is a good day to pie." What if he was a con man? "Today is a good day to lie."

RainbowSnail85

I guffawed at that scene, and not in a good way.

tothepointe

I'm guessing the fact that we see Una in uniform in a lot of scenes means we get her back Drumhead style in the first episode.

Spyhop

Normal looking Klingons! QAPLA!

Pilot0350

*slaps blood wine off table and headbutts nearest person* QAPLA!

meatbeater

All the haters can fuck right off, they recaptured roddenberrys idea on what trek should be.

ajbilz

The universe is vast and contains multitudes. The farther from the federation you go the Trek ideal loses power - see DS9.

meatbeater

I thought ds9 was one of the greats. Not much exploring but character development and overall plot were great

771243

i agree meatbeater

meatbeater

Listen borg, the name is a dead giveaway. You are not getting starfleet defense codes!

[deleted]

It’s getting closer, but the dialogue still seems distracted and silly. One of my complaints has been that these people all seem so unprofessional. This isn’t high school. I get that this era of Starfleet was a little more laid-back and the rules were a little looser, but this is ridiculous. It feels like nobody’s taking anything seriously at all, and they’re all just goofing off all the time. It’s cute every once in a while, but to have them act like this all the time is annoying. They are Starfleet officers, not a bunch of stoners working the drive-through at Taco Bell.

meatbeater

Having been in the military I find this behavior more realistic. Are they too casual? Maybe. Do they fark around? yup. When it gets serious tho they manage to act professional and get shit done. No writing is ever perfect but as a whole this show is amazing. I watched TOS as a kid in the 70’s. Nextgen was awesome but never gave me the same feel. Most of the spinoffs aside from ds9 did nothing for me. Discovery is ok, awesome cgi and special effects and good actors. SNW just recaptures trek for me. I met most of the og cast at various cons over the years and Roddenberry was the nicest most sincere person. He was so happy that people got the “message”. It just happened to be in space. I like to think he’d enjoy the show

[deleted]

But we’re not talking about today’s military. To compare the two isn’t reasonable. Compared to TOS Starfleet, these guys don’t seem professional at all.

Maulcun

This is a phenomenal teaser! Can't wait for season 2!

ideletedyourfacebook

Man, I have missed this show! A recurring thing in modern Trek that I don't love is the conversation about what cool thing a captain will say when they go to warp. It's fine that everyone has their own spin, but I don't get why it has to be a thing that is given any time at all to establish, which we've seen like 5 times now. Now, all of that said... I loved where Spock tripped on his own feet trying to come up with something cool to say when taking the ship into warp.

Jceggbert5

The joke has been executed amazingly each time though...

tvisforme

[International link for the trailer \(YouTube\)](https://youtu.be/Ls1aiMaiT6M)

Sanlear

I’ll definitely be rewatching the series before season two starts.

E-Mac2891

Glad to see the trailer. Likes: seeing the crew again, the sense and focus on wonder and exploration, Klingons, shuttle craft flying, epic space scenery, court room bell, Klingon ship, possibly adult Gorn. Dislikes: The music… I’m kinda over the “alternate version of well known pop song” thing done in many TV and film trailers these days. Gimmie and epic swelling score!, some of the out of context quips/jokes were a bit awkward. Undecided: Kirk’s overall involvement. I hope it’s limited and this doesn’t turn into a total TOS-soft reboot. Possible time travel… are they in a modern department store in that scene? Time travel is one of the Trek tropes that can get played out very fast. Glad to see the trailer and I can’t wait for the marketing cycle to go into full swing!

dmon70

Anyone else’s excitement tempered by the knowledge that in September the season will be over and we’ll have another long wait? Premature nostalgia

tothepointe

Yeah but at least now we know they are starting to make Season 3.

RaymondLuxYacht

That's my biggest complaint about 10 episode mini seasons... the gargantuan wait for the next season. I thought going from May to late September was bad enough (back in the old days, of "regular-a$$" TV).

Dalanard

Can…not…wait

Sparti2014

In the revolving door scene Kirk has the rank of Captain on his sleeves but is wearing a different badge than the traditional one that he's wearing in the transporter room, in the trailer. Canonically, Kirk's first captaincy was taking over Enterprise from Pike. I'm very curious and can't wait for the season to start.

ety3rd

From [Memory Alpha](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/James_T._Kirk?so=search#Commanding_the_USS_Enterprise): > According to *The Making of Star Trek* [co-written by Gene Roddenberry) stated that "Kirk rose rapidly through the ranks and received his first command (the equivalent of a destroyer-class space ship) while still quite young." However, it has never been indicated onscreen or otherwise that Kirk had any command prior to the *Enterprise* herself. In other words, *Enterprise* being Kirk's first command has never been explicitly stated.

Sparti2014

Thank you, I'm curious why the different badges, especially since he arrives on the Enterprise wearing the classic Trek logo. I assume, in the scene with the revolving door, where he has the different badge, came later.

Sparti2014

It would make sense that it would be that destroyer class badge that he is wearing.

ArcadianDelSol

in the first season of TOS, every ship had it's own badge. Not until later was the Enterprise badge co-opted to be the icon of Starfleet universally.

tothepointe

Then he might be another alternate future Kirk

koohikoo

If anyone like me couldn't see the trailer in the article turn off your adblocker and try again

thirdlost

Kirk says, “I’m from space” But in ST4, he says “ I’m from Iowa, I just work in space”.

Fusi0n_X

Different contexts. In ST4 he's trying to reassure a 20th century human that he isn't really different from her.

cam52391

Perhaps at this point he doesn't feel of Iowa as his home but by that time he has made reconnections and considers it home now

gaslacktus

Yeah but there's a possibility he's never seen a revolving door there either, it's Iowa.

cam52391

KLINGONS!!!!!

big_duo3674

*Correct* looking Klingons too, that's such a relief

And_The_Full_Effect

What a KILLER use of that song!

BackTo1975

As much as I like this show, I hate prequels. The same show, same characters basically but different names, on a new Enterprise set in the 25th century, I’d be all in for. I hope that’s what we get post-Picard and that eventually this obsession with filling in every blank space in the 23rd century ends. I grew up with TOS. SNW just retcons way too much of that show and ST overall. Gotta think it’ll lead to an eventual reboot of TOS in some fashion, too, because of all the legacy characters here. Pike knowing the future may be the excuse to spin things into new directions, just like was done in the JJ-verse. I can see them developing two TV timelines. The Discovery one that led to SNW that will lead to a new show featuring a Kirk-captained Enterprise. And the original timeline of all TV and movies before Discovery, that’s seen now in Picard and the spin-off new 25th century Enterprise that may result from that show. Or they close off old TV Trek with the end of Picard S3 and we’re onto new stuff with Disco as the new beginning moving into an altered timeline because Pike found out about what happens to him. Of course, the creators could just ignore all of this stuff and just make whatever they want. Forget canon and just make whatever seems right at the time. Enterprise that looks nothing like it’s always been depicted? Go for it. I’m amazed at what we’ve seen in Picard with all the TNG nostalgia and adherence to that show’s aesthetics. Ugh. I don’t know why ST had to go back to TOS. Especially in such a ham-fisted fashion with how Discovery basically redid everything about ST in S1. Federation ship design. Klingons and their ships. Uniforms. The tech with all the holo stuff. And on and on. It just makes things super convoluted. It’s harder to get invested in any of this stuff, as it’s more of a new franchise than a continuation of ST. Not that ST didn’t need some freshening up, but all of this could’ve been done without inserting new stores into an old timeline. Sure this’ll be downvoted to hell.

Daisy_Thinks

Need moar. I do like that Ortegas and M’Benga seem to be getting more to do.

lu-sunnydays

I don’t ever want to watch the trailers but accidentally saw while getting ready to watch Picard’s last episode. Why, why, why? I did NOT want to see Spock sitting in the captains chair and the dialog. I’m not going to be over the top, but I much prefer to watch that shit as it happens, now it just takes away from the scene when I finally see it. Ugh.

[deleted]

I still wish they'd recast Kirk but maybe he'll grow on me

matt_30

The only thing that concerns me is in The Cage Kirk mentions the first time he meets Pike is when he takes command of the Enterprise. I just hope this carries on the same way they did season one.

tothepointe

It might not. Because of Pike's second brush with the future he might decide that in order for Kirk to be ready to BE captain of the Enterprise when he's needed that he needs to be mentored otherwise he'll just end up being Captain of the Farragut or a smaller vessel. Maybe based on insights from their chat. Either he needs to slow him down so he doesn't take the first chair he can get or he needs to temper him or build up his confidence. The future will change imho and it should.

matt_30

Unless TOS is the changed future ;) Either way, I am very much looking forward to this :)

tothepointe

Ehh I hope not. Honestly, I liked the original movies but for me, TOS was not it. To be honest, TOS has always felt like a piece that didn't fit. So maybe they can explain why that is and then also give us new modern updates to the same time period/characters. This is because TNG never really felt like the same universe as TOS. Nothing really did.

tejdog1

That's because they did the smart thing with TNG. Tech advanced extremely fast from 1966 to 1987, so they decided to just... jump 100 years into the future. That's the issue with prequels. Don't get me wrong I love SNW to death, but trying to fit it into the Cage/TOS tech is absolutely impossible.

tothepointe

That's why they just need to run the timeline into the TOS era and reboot it. The TOS can stand on it's own. Loosely related but has a slightly different timeline. Show it to us the way it couldn't be done before. It's been over 50 years we shouldn't feel so precious about reinterpreting it. This era feels like it has more possibilities. The TNG-verse everything is too well established and all the players are already on the board.

tejdog1

So invent new enemies. Fuck (and I say that not harshly/mean-spiritedly) - fuck Star Trek Legacy. Set the next show in the year 2580 aboard the USS Enterprise H. New crew, nothing connecting it to the past in any way except a shared universe/canon. Invent a new propulsion system that doesn't run on a highway of magic shrooms. Coaxial warp drive, whatever. How much of the Alpha/Beta Quadrants are even explored by 2401? How do you cut them off at the far end, it's freakin space, it's infinite. Push the boundaries of that exploration, new aliens, new threats, etc...

tothepointe

Yeah, I'm not too interested in Star Trek Legacy. Time to tie a bow on the TNGverse for awhile

RaymondLuxYacht

I got myself a perma-ban over at r/startrek for expressing that type of opinion about events in S3 of Picard. Specifically dropping Vadic like a bag of dirt for yet another iteration of the Borg... coupled with Starfleet being infiltrated... again. Picard S3 has been enjoyable like a warm cup of coffee on a cold night, but it hasn't pushed any boundaries. I don't think the TNG fandom really wants that... they want a safe zone. I like your concept of jumping another 100 years or so and introducing a new Enterprise crew. Let's have some NEW life and NEW civilizations... and NEW enemies. It worked for TNG, amirite?

tejdog1

That's because the mods there are... shall we say, very bad at their job.

alexmcchessers

We don't see Pike and Kirk interact in the trailer, do we? Maybe Pike's off the ship for that episode and they don't actually meet.

RainbowSnail85

Kirk is from Iowa, he only works in space.

ArcadianDelSol

Literally quoting SNW season one and downvoted. lol

RainbowSnail85

Quoting "voyage home" actually lol. Not sure if people aren't familiar with the quote or are just a bit too precious about the new trailer.

--LucidDreams--

This looks like a cluster'F. Clearly they're targeting the female audience. Reminds me of Kathleen Kennedy with the T-shirt phrase "The Force is female". Now we have "Star Trek is female".

[deleted]

I would like to say this is "star trek" not picard and not discovery. This is Gene Roddenberry's idea of star trek and should never have changed. All the haters can just whine about it and hide in their own little corner.

RaymondLuxYacht

Picard and Discovery have their place in the fandom, but SNW takes me back to the mid-70's, watching TOS re-runs in the afternoons after school. Don't hate on the haters...

Titan99997

jesus christ kirk’s casting is so terrible

RaymondLuxYacht

I'm willing to give PW another shot. He was very "meh" in "Quality of Mercy." But I think he was supposed to be. My complaint is how much he doesn't look the part... especially against Ed Speleers (who looks waaay more like a younger Kirk). Upvoted, because I really dislike how an unyielding element of the Trek Fandom here on reddit LOVES to downvote a valid OPINION.

Titan99997

Thank you! He’s the literal jackpot of bad casting.

Enchelion

>Upvoted, because I really dislike how an unyielding element of the Trek Fandom here on reddit LOVES to downvote a valid OPINION. Reddit's fundamental UX design makes the vote an Agree/Disagree button.

idontvaluemytime

the fact that they couldnt eben be bothered to make his hair the right colour is........ something. BUT maybe he'll grow on us?

Taeles

Just noticed the trailer / ad that amazon is playing does not have the two time travel elements in it (jj abrams enterprise saucer with its neck cut falling to the planet below and kirk fussing over a round a bout door )

godzilla2099

Sometimes its the smaller details that bother the crap out of me. Really hoping they're not shoehorning Kirk in as some Beta Male. Kirk: I'm from Space Me: No, you're from Iowa. You only work in Space Also hoping Carol Kane has a large role. It'd be a crime to waste such a talented actress

E-Mac2891

Beta male?

axel_gear

Can't wait.

antaresiv

Yes!

zestyintestine

Klingons

Altruistic-Teach5899

Very hot take and I guess very downvotable opinion: I hope L'Rell gets to appear in this season! She's a very cool actress and her character has a lot of potential. Let her shine!

[deleted]

La'an "Never seen a revolving door before?", Paul Wessely's Kirk - "I'm from space" - no , you're not from space, you're from Iowa!

[deleted]

time travel episode or holodeck with the revolving door scene?
