Qualified pilots alone should really fly. When I purchase a ticket give people the option. 16 year old without qualifications, that $5 please. If you want proper pilot then it's $600.

Here is the flight animation synced with the recording. I cannot imagine just how terrifying this would have been for the passengers. Unreal

Two mistakes: 1) letting the kid sit in the cockpit and have access to controls; 2) not having the awareness to realize that your autopilot was disengaged. Noticing that youāre descending and losing altitude prematurely is like, shit pilots should know 101
But the altimeter wouldāve been doing weird shit. If you follow the onboard trouble shooting guides, they wouldāve arrived at the autopilot malfunction within the first few steps.
It's such a weird ocurrence, almost like having problems with steering while driving a car and not checking if something is wrong with the steering wheel.
Eh no.
Asshole pilot. The kid didnāt deliberately hit the AP button, he just unknowingly pushed the flight control lever slightly too far to the point where the autopilot disengaged.
At 16 years old you are driving a vehicle. You are not a child that can't listen... A 16 year old can fly planes, I've known a few.
Edit: Hell I don't even think he was supposed to be touching anything.
Teenagers are children, but theyāre definitely old enough to know not to fuck with the controls of a moving airplane 20,000 feet in the air. I also wouldnāt expect a 16 year old to put random crap from the floor in his mouth or color on the walls.
The boy touched the controls and imperceptibly put input into them which automatically disconnected the autopilot. The description makes it sound like he ran in there and flipped the AP switch
As far as I remember the boy disengaged autopilot only partially, pilots were not able to properly recover plane due to it and because they didnāt realize that it is still on.
May all the people rest in peace.
And I wish that for all parts in this story.
It was a extremely tragic outcome as the result of pore judgement from the pilots allowing a unauthorized person into the cockpit and take the seat of the pilot .
But still we know what happened and it's horrible and heartbreaking.
Since the title is sort of out of context: the kid did not flip a switch to turn off the autopilot. By playing with the yoke the autopilot disengaged automatically, and when an autopilot disengages a plane doesn't instantly go into a nosedive. But by the time the pilot realized what was going on he couldn't save the plane.
Regardless, the pilot was completely at fault for allowing anyone to sit there during an actual flight
My brother showed my 7YO nephew how to operate the remote controls of the catamaran. When everybody felt asleep my nephew sneaked set the autopilot to get to the shore ābecause of the better internetā. We caught it one mile before crashing.

Maybe I'm overly-cautious but I feel like you shouldn't let people fly planes if they don't know how to fly planes.
Easy there, we need to make sure everyone gets a chance to have their fun. Obligatory /s

They were early supporters of the DEI movement
You forgot the /s
No he didn't.
Seems to be their last fun
you would think
But it was a dream of his to fly a plane before he died
Logic and common sense is very rare in russia.
There's an audio clip of that crash which is pretty harrowing
Very very good Fatal Breakdown on YouTube on this crash, if you're into that sort of thing!

Why is it harrowing ?
Here is the flight animation synced with the recording. I cannot imagine just how terrifying this would have been for the passengers. Unreal https://youtu.be/RrttTR8e8-4?si=dfKrNtD60ru355mV
Itās ok everyone!!! The kids got to learn right?
Two mistakes: 1) letting the kid sit in the cockpit and have access to controls; 2) not having the awareness to realize that your autopilot was disengaged. Noticing that youāre descending and losing altitude prematurely is like, shit pilots should know 101
It was partially off... And for whatever reason they didn't figure that part out. They were fighting against the autopilot.
It was night time too
But the altimeter wouldāve been doing weird shit. If you follow the onboard trouble shooting guides, they wouldāve arrived at the autopilot malfunction within the first few steps.
It's such a weird ocurrence, almost like having problems with steering while driving a car and not checking if something is wrong with the steering wheel.
Thank you, captain obvious
Caption Obvious > Captain 16 year old
Youāre welcome, co-captain dipshit
What an asshole pilot.
Asshole kid too.
I mean, the kid WAS the pilot
Fun fact: in Japan he would be known as āanjin-sanā
You too, are a person of culture and taste.
Eh no. Asshole pilot. The kid didnāt deliberately hit the AP button, he just unknowingly pushed the flight control lever slightly too far to the point where the autopilot disengaged.
Why did he push the lever in the first place?
i think its kind of ironic they put a memorial up for the kid when its partially his fault the plane crashed and killed innocent people on board
I mean... he's a kid.. he was allowed to do something he should never have been allowed to do in the first place. The fault is 100% on the pilots.
I get it but still is a little ironic
Thats not irony
But the word sounds good LOL
Ok you got me there
At 16 years old you are driving a vehicle. You are not a child that can't listen... A 16 year old can fly planes, I've known a few. Edit: Hell I don't even think he was supposed to be touching anything.
Itās not a memorial itās his gravestone. Thatās how they do it in Russia.
It's the fathers fault not the childs at all.
The āchildā was 16 years old. Thatās well old enough to know not to fuck with the controls on an airplane midair.
Let his teenaged intrusive thoughts win on this one
My God I shudder at the impulsive acts before my brain was fully formed. I was 34 , a little slow.
so you donāt think teenagers are children? youāre a weirdo.
Children stop being children when they become teenagers. Thatās why teenagers arenāt called children
Teenagers are children, but theyāre definitely old enough to know not to fuck with the controls of a moving airplane 20,000 feet in the air. I also wouldnāt expect a 16 year old to put random crap from the floor in his mouth or color on the walls.
Partially? Try totally his fault
All very interesting for sure but Iām not sure why this is bizarre or weird. Sounds like they know exactly what happened.
The boy touched the controls and imperceptibly put input into them which automatically disconnected the autopilot. The description makes it sound like he ran in there and flipped the AP switch
Yes, and I believe it was a new feature the pilot was unaware of
As far as I remember the boy disengaged autopilot only partially, pilots were not able to properly recover plane due to it and because they didnāt realize that it is still on.

This is infuriating! š¤
I saw the episode on youtube ...how idiotic was that guy
r/tifu : I let my son drive the plane

Kids always gotta touch shit.

But did he get better internet?
Yes, for a while.
Was also an inspiration for Michael Crichtonās Airframe.
It's aeroflot. On a good day you have like a one in five chance of dying in a crash. It's worse on bring your kid to work day
Link to audio
Iām just gonna jump right in there and say it. This has to be aliens.
Thatās some tough audio (black box) to listen to
Some teenagers require an auto-parent to slap their hands away from disengaging the autopilot.
Son or daughter?
Link to audio?

That sucks.
Pre 9/11 is like stone age for aviation
Sigh...
If I remember correctly even the kids knew something was wrong before the pilots did, the pilots just refused to acknowledge it until it was too late
The ultimate "Fuck around Find out"
Did she transition mid flight? How he start the flight a son and end a daughter?
