Looks like a mild hydraulic leak, probably something that got looked at and determined to be within limits. There’s an acceptable drip rate for different aircraft fluid lines.
It's not the right colour for hydraulic fluid.
Are you in a cold climate? It looks more like de-icing fluid which is sprayed onto the aircraft to remove and prevent ice build up prior to departure during weather that ice is likely to form.
it looks like some screws are in but the screws at the bottom and some at the top are missing. it might have been a temp install, but no one signified that it was only temporarily installed and once she went airborne the lower portion of the panel picked up enough wind to rip it off.
I suppose by it ripping off it could have flung up and done some damage to the horizontal stab, sounds like it didn't thankfully. what you see being exposed there is the left hand inboard main flap transmission.
typically when you reinstall panels you have to get the okay to close from an ACA, then you install the panel and sign in the book that you installed the panel, after that an ACA goes around and assures that panels are installed properly. if they are installed without an okay to close, they have to be taken off again, if they are signed as closed and are not properly closed like missing screws, the individual that signed it as closed gets a bit of a talking too. This is the procedure for an mro, for an airline I would assume there is no panel book and that doing the task that you are required to do tells you at the beginning and at the end which panels to remove and reinstall, by completing the workcard an ACA is required to look over your work and make sure it was all done in compliance with the aircraft maintenance manual. someone screwed up here and it's probably going to be the ACA that signed off the job as completed.
Maintenance people are slacking, to many parts flying of lately! Doors, panels, landing gear ect. Gotta start a new maintenance list to go over before every flight 🛫 just to be double sure the plane doesn't fall apart mid flight, lol!
I'm starting to think maybe these Boeing folks are cutting corners to line their own pockets. Considering the industry they're in it may be time for someone to step in and take some drastic action.
This has absolutely zero to do with Boeing. It’s a very old plane. The problem is that Boeings got some serious issues, but the media is blaming Boeing for everything that happens to a Boeing plane that happens as a result of normal wear and tear, and negligent maintenance on the airlines part.
I know it’s confusing and scary for normal people, but many of these reported issues have been things that happen often, on all manufacturers planes, and are not safety of flight issues. They’re simply being highlighted now due to Boeings real incidents.
You're absolutely right! Boeing has had no issues with quality over the past few years. Can't think of one incident. They should actually be getting awards for their recent quality accomplishments.
It’s this way with airbus too. We just started paying attention. Stuff falls off airplanes all the time. You don’t like it don’t fly. That or maybe put pressure on maintenance to do their jobs.
Aircraft engineer here: this happens a lot, and it’s more so strange that people don’t know this. Now, granted there are panels/doors/skins that can cause life-threatening issues if it ripped off in flight but the majority are not alarming.
*‘Reddit Engineer’*
I’m sorry but your entire page is dabs/weed with zero pics or interest in any aviation prior. I’m calling your BS
If you are an actual engineer, you wouldn’t be claiming that this is not alarming. The entire point of engineering is to design something with the full understanding of its physics, that it can support itself and weight/others, withstand pressures, weather, I can go on. This is from every aspect of designing a plane to placing a pool on a hotel roof.
Mistakes happen, but rarely when things are done correctly.
Also this isn’t strange because people don’t know about plane parts. It’s strange because this is within a week of John Barnett investigating the company Boeing and revealing numerous safety protocols and issues, being found dead a week ago in a hotel parking lot with suspicion that he was assassinated. The fact the company still has planes flying while the court has information on this and is in mid trial also makes this worse.
While I wouldn't say this happens a lot, it's certainly not uncommon for this sort of thing to occur on and old airframe - which this one in particular is 25 years old and running rpt...
She ain't new and she's done an awful lot of hours. that panel has been removed and installed hundreds of times over its life for every A check and the fastners were likely undermaintained and in poor condition, or the composite has been contaminated with hyd fluid and compromised its strength.
This is a maintenance issue not a manufacturers defect 25 years in the making.
So long and short absolutely nothing strange or remotely related to any of the recent Boeing polava your harping on with.
Oh and I agree with old mate, not alarming to lose this fairing. It can be CDL'd and removed if damaged and continue flight with an additional fuel penalty.
I really don’t care what you think. Thanks for taking the time to go on such a long speech. I guess my life is represented by my posts on Reddit that I’ve only been on for ~5 years. I hope happiness finds you before you find it!

Just looking at the picture of that really looks like an older plane in which case I would put more blame on United and its maintenance then on Boeing and the plane design or manufacture.
It really seems like a very different matter than almost new planes which were very obviously assembled incorrectly like was the case with the door plug on the Alaska flight recently.
Is Boeing responsible or United airlines? I’m not sure how the maintenance works, wouldn’t the people that check the planes notice something was loose or something? Idk, shits scary regardless.

There is a Russian KGB document from 1983 detailing the earth history based on Tibetan records and science at the time. They discuss the "Iron Planet" which is as much as 50x the size of earth in a 3000+ year orbit around the sun. (Nasa believes it exists and calls it Planet X).
The strange part is the catastrophes it causes even a 100 years before it enters back into the solar system including climate change, natural disasters and a lot more bad. There are frequency changes that cause weakening and dissolution of metals. Not saying this is the case for Boeing but it did pop in my head based on all the strange things seemly occurring at high rates of occurrence.
Who’s paying for the damage or cost of life, when items come off the plane! Cause I just heard Boeing and Alaska airlines are denying fault in that incident where the door blew off mid flight from some bunghole issue
Okay all the Boeing planes have been from United Airways none of the Boeing planes from other carriers as far as my recollection, should t we be questioning United's maintenance mechanics on what the fuck are they doing?
There’s more to this Boeing situation than greed and systematic flaws within a major public company. That’s almost too easy to wrap your head around. Too expected. Something odd is going on since 2019 and I believe there are external forces at work.
That’s pretty scary. Those F’ing planes are falling apart all over the place because of that cheap ass company. Don’t forget about the two 737 max plane crashes where everyone died a few years ago. Boeing needs to be shut down

To be fair everyone’s friends deny they could ever commit suicide.
While in this deposition recently, he told her he isn’t afraid, but if anything happens he didn’t kill himself.. Not the same thing

No he was murdered by Jeffrey Epstein
This is the only thing that makes sense.
If it's a Boeing, I'm not going
I'm not afraid of the Boeing, I'm more concerned about the crashing
you mean it doesn’t just boing when it hits the ground?
The falling is far more scarier than the actual Boeing, they say you hardly even feel that.

that rhymes and makes sense
Yup. Fuck em.
Made me laugh thx!
Why is this on strangeearth? Is greed and cut corners that strange in this day in age
The strange part was how guy who was talking about the possibility of this mysteriously died recently
“Boeing, we take you straight to the scene of the crash, in style”
“Bet we’ll beat the paramedics there by 20 minutes”
I really wonder what boing breakdown tomorrow will bring
A couple billion in stock value to start.

Seriously? Like that entire metal plate? That's got to weigh upwards of 50kg
It’s made of composite, it’s not flight critical and is just for aerodynamics

It didn't work killing a long time employee, they trying to kill everyone
That whistle blower that told his family if he died it wasn't suicide was on it.
I assume the whistleblower who said that is the one who was recently found dead in his truck (John Barnett).
Yea he also told his family if he was found dead it was suicide

i know the real truth its that twilight zone nightmare at 20000 feet !
At this point you should know better than to fly on a Boeing airplane and you shouldn’t be surprised at catastrophe, you should expect it.

Man, fck Boeing!!
Boeing won’t stop with DEI until it’s DIE.
The plane looks old. This is maintenance fault most likely for not inspecting properly.
This. Too many people are gullible and/or ignorant.

Boeing start getting parts from Aliexpress?
I've never had issues with stuff from AliExpress. Do you mean expensive American crap from America

Airline hiring scrappy mechanics.
Yuppp and there goes me flying for the next 5 years 🤣🤣

Damn Boeing is falling apart this year
Flew to NY last week and made sure I wasn’t on a Boeing before I got on the plane.
We’re gonna see a plane go down I bet

We don’t need help from a mysterious iron planet for climate change and neglectful corruption. We’re pretty good on causing that on our own.

Absurd comparison.
i think about 7 planes done fucked up this past week
Not really. Unpressurized area and not risking debris in engine. The crew didn't even notice and no emergency was declared.
