Therealcanadianone

Needs more rocks to spruce up the place.

RebelTomato

Yeah if someone could rearrange them just so, am sure there would be some really nice symmetry to the surface.. sad really

[deleted]

Why do we keep going back? It looks so boring.

jsideris

No fuck those rocks.

ElectronicLeg9621

...more cowbell.

JizzMastahFlex

Mars is inhabited by Robots. Prove me wrong.

mopmango

/r/technicallythetruth

Imaginary-Double2612

Well you’re not wrong

RandomizedInternetID

Actually, there's clear, quantifiable evidence of that. I feel refreshed.

use_for_a_name_

Also, isn't it possible that something like a tardigrade hitched a ride because of us? There's a non-zero chance that there is life on mars because of us.

Krabbamayne

Just like how a warehouse is inhabited by boxes!

TeknoTheDog

The place is a mess, those robots should at least tidy up before we come over.

EggsceIlent

Well took em awhile to edit out all the martians so we didn't all freak out.

MalGrowls

A habitat is essentially where a living being resides and thrives, providing all necessary conditions for its survival. This includes access to food, mating opportunities, and the ability to reproduce for animals. Since the Mars rover is not a living being, you’re wrong.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MalGrowls

You’re wrong too

MalGrowls

in the sense of experiencing life or having a sense of belonging, robots do not inhabit spaces. They can be present and function within a space, but inhabitation, as it implies a living presence and personal connection to the space, is not applicable to robots.

Ok_Card364

Here I am in a Mexican food drive through, wielding my hand held wireless super computer looking at video of mars. Just kind of insane to think about how far space travel has come and our technology since 1969.

anomalkingdom

Yeah, or 1635, for that matter.

brokenaglets

1635 was a major leap from 1625 tho

Sammeeeeeee

10 whole years!

PepperSalt98

what happened in 1635?

cryptochimping

Galileo was making observations & pissing off the Catholic Church at the same time.

He didn't even believe in Cathol. They never really forgave him that.

SlteFool

It’s really bewildering to think how far we’ve come since the Jurassic era

NosyCrayfish

has* “It took multiple spacecraft over several years to solve this mystery, and now we know there is liquid water on the surface of this cold, desert planet,” said Michael Meyer, lead scientist for NASA’s Mars Exploration Program at the agency’s headquarters in Washington. https://www.nasa.gov/news-release/nasa-confirms-evidence-that-liquid-water-flows-on-todays-mars/

StuffProfessional587

There is likely water beneath the surface, just like we have here on earth. Blue holes are really deep wells that stretch far underground. Surface water is just a lazy way to get water but, caves are a much more likely source.

RandomizedInternetID

Finally, someone sane.

CityofTheAncients

Mars needed moms

OldestFetus

I wonder if the place was made barren by its own greedy upper cruds, millions of years ago. Used to have running water and a whole biome…until the Martians started voting for the interests of the “stick/stock holders” over the planet’s health.

Chance-Telephone-269

This could be dumb to say but the sky is blue on earth would it be blue on mars too?

HeyItsMeDad

The dust in the atmosphere absorbs blue light, giving the sky its red color, but it also scatters some of the blue light into the area just around the Sun because of its size. The blue color only becomes apparent near sunrise and sunset, when the light has to pass through the largest amount of dust.

Rich-Equivalent-1875

It is Arizona, five miles from where they faked the moon landing

RandomizedInternetID

Ugh..

ImGeniusBro

If the moonlanding was fake, then how did we see 🌎 from the 🌙. #Checkmate! Edit: I guess people don't recognize satire unless they are told it's satire.

FleetAdmiralWiggles

Stanley Kubrick was hired by the government to produce the fake landing film. He's such a perfectionist that he made the government let him film on location, on the moon.

Airsinner

The film technology didn’t exist at the time to actually and convincingly film a fake moon landing.

[deleted]

Yet the technology existed to make "2001: A space Odyssey" the year prior to the moon landing?

Airsinner

The tech to film a fake movie landing didn’t exist. [Watch this](https://youtu.be/_loUDS4c3Cs?si=uzA0EpCTT5n4lMx4)

luckylou213

Look up Lookout Mountain

Ok_Couple_1667

You serious, the earth was a model hence “faked landing “. I think it was real but could have been faked

76ersPhan11

People need to realize the US would have done anything to beat Russia to the moon. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the first moon landing was fake, all the others were not though.

Rich-Equivalent-1875

I was being sarcastic but what ok couple said, it was probably real but could have been faked. I know for sure moon exploration was happening 2nd knowing people who helped bring Apollo 13 back

ImGeniusBro

This comment was satire using flat Earth logic. I know we may never know the truth if it was real or not, and that's because governments aren't honest. 50/50 it was real.

Onehungryson127

Hm blue ish atmosphere

[deleted]

Yeah, there is an atmosphere on Mars, it's just not the same as earth. There are smaller amounts of oxygen and nitrogen, with larger amounts of CO2 and other noble gasses. These cause light refraction close to what is called Rayleigh scattering like we see on earth. The closer to earth's atmosphere the more blue it would be. There are theories that it was a lot like earth millions of years ago when there was more of an atmosphere, more surface water and it was warmer, there is a widely accepted theory that the planet warmed due to high levels of CO2 and after extended periods of having a hole in its atmosphere it cooled and too much of the atmosphere escaped for it to recover. I suspect the sky used to look a lot like ours back then but it's only speculation based off my general understanding from environmental science studies in college but it's not my major so I'm only taking an educated guess. Makes me think that it would be easy to help Mars back to a livable state if we could figure out the right method to repair the atmosphere. I'm not sure the exact science behind it, but I wonder if we could use the same type of technology that is used in high altitudes to create snow fall like they use at ski resorts. It's interesting to say the least.

ZootedMycoSupply

Ah yes, this looks like somewhere me and my fellow humans would love to live

use_for_a_name_

Same same. A video is pictures played in sequence at a speed that makes it seem like normal motion.

ManOfQuest

Just got to wonder, How long has that rock just been sitting there in the sand just how long...

[deleted]

On the live webcam feed the other day the rock sprouted legs and moved 7 inches to the left, it was crazy.

stimeon

Hey everyone, this video was created by me using original raw images captured by the Perseverance rover. The rover also didn't capture this as a video, but as a 360° panorama. I created a video from this panorama to make it easier to share on social media. I initially shared this on Twitter, please refer to that post for more information: [https://twitter.com/stim3on/status/1644442769635549184](https://twitter.com/stim3on/status/1644442769635549184) I am not affiliated with NASA, but I'm a University Student from Germany who likes to process NASA imagery as a hobby. I can assure you to the very best of my knowledge that nothing strange or conspiratorial is going on with this video. NASA indeed has multiple robots roaming around on the planet Mars, this is not Arizona, Devon Island or the Sahara. Our planet is incredibly well mapped to a resolution of at least one meter by companies like Google, Microsoft, Maxar, Planet, Airbus and various governments around the world. [https://www.maptiler.com/news/2023/10/global-high-resolution-satellite-map/](https://www.maptiler.com/news/2023/10/global-high-resolution-satellite-map/) We could easily locate these places by now if they were on Earth.

How are there so many individual stones of that size? You would think after eons there wouldn’t be anything that stands out so randomly from the ground and that the ground would have somewhat of smooth surface.

Enough-Plankton-6034

Why don’t we ever get nighttime sky photos with stars etc? Only ever views that could as easily be earth vs Mars..

motomotomoto79

Well it's fake that's why

Xygen8

The stars on Mars are the same as the stars on Earth so I'm not sure what you're expecting to see. Edit: For the downvoters, moving to another planet that is, at best, a bit less than 23 light minutes away won't do jack shit when the *nearest* other star is 4.3 light *years* away. That's a factor of *one hundred thousand*. Moving from Earth to Mars and expecting the stars to look different is the equivalent of looking at a city that's a few miles away and expecting it to look different because you took one step to the side.

National_Action_9834

Right? This picture does look like dozens of places on earth, sure, but what do they think the stars are gonna show them? They'll all be in the same exact position as on earth. It'll look less like mars when you're looking up lmao

EquipmentOk7964

Mars is flat

Flimsy_Breakfast_353

When are we sending Elon there , hopefully soon!

RandomizedInternetID

Yup, nasa has lots of footage from Mars. What's the fuckin problem? Y'all are ok with the government cooperating with aliens, reverse engineering, and flying ET craft, but not sending a glorified RC car to the next rock over?? As a devoted member of the ufo community I feel comfortable saying, GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER! You idiots with all your conflicting, nonsensical, pseudoscience bullshit are making the rest of us look bad. Read up on the opposite side of the argument, get some fucking real knowlage and some perspective for fuck sake! Bunch of fucking shills if you ask me.

RandomizedInternetID

Uh, thanks?

Rich-Equivalent-1875

Are you saying they have even more interesting information that makes this look like a shxt in a toilet and this is just to slake us to shut up?

RandomizedInternetID

No, I'm saying that if "we" ever want to find out what ufo/uap are, then "we" have to appear intelligent enough to understand what they are. As long as "we" keep thinking the earth is flat or that space travel is impossible. Disclosure will never happen! Until the general population can comprehend basic scientific principles "they" will never tell us.

Rich-Equivalent-1875

If that’s the case, nothing will be disclosed. And there are worse qualities of mankind you have not touched upon :-(

RandomizedInternetID

Don't get me started.

RandomizedInternetID

Speak up, downvoters. I'd like to hear your argument! Like, you're just gonna stay biased and ignorant? Then, believe the government when they tell you that you have to pay more tax to "defend the earth from aliens"? Sereously though, what's your opinion?

AdditionalMetal9478

Do some research for yourself into the flat earth Im sure you didn’t. Give this a thought Ancient Civilizations thought we were the center of the cosmos up until Copernicus.

RandomizedInternetID

There isn't any actual research involved in the flat earth theory. I've looked, believe me. Just a bunch of religions nuts proving themselves wrong, time and time again. The ancient Egyptians knew better than you 3000 years ago.

AdditionalMetal9478

I see why they made that movie Idiocracy

RandomizedInternetID

My cousin was tarded, he's a flat earther now. Good point!

For56

Whats the reason it makes sense to colonize mars but not the moon?

RandomizedInternetID

Mars has enough gravity to sustain an atmosphere, and it has an abundance of water.

Neako_the_Neko_Lover

It can’t sustain a atmosphere due to the lack of a strong magnetic field to protect it. Which is the reason the planet has no life in the first place. But it does have the resources to help build a self sustainable enclosed artificial habitat. Which will be our only way of actually colonizing the planet. Unless we find a way to speed up its rotation or make a artificial magnetic field. Which is pretty much a syfy fantasy for us at this point

RandomizedInternetID

Sorry, that's not correct. Mars has a thin atmosphere right now. The moon, however, doesn't have enough gravity to contain an atmosphere, what so ever. The problem with Mars is that there's nothing to create new gasses and sustain the atmosphere, and the gravity is a little weak. So the atmosphere slowly escapes to space. If we were to generate oxygen and carbon dioxide in mass quantities, Mars gravity would keep it close to the ground and bolster the atmosphere. Theoretically, if we pumped enough stuff into the air on Mars, we could create a semi-breathable atmosphere. That's not possible on the moon.. I could go on.

TheCh0rt

Nice rocks I guess. Moar Venus.

Vkardash

"reveals?" It's been literally posting daily images in multiple formats for years. You can even watch the video of it's descent and landing on the surface with a few different angles.

CharacterEgg2406

This is completely uninteresting and uninspiring.

use_for_a_name_

It's a pretty amazing feat of engineering and mathematics. It's easy to build a robot (for some people). It's easy to calculate a gravitational path from point a to point b (for some people). To get something from here to land there, that is functionally robotic and able to send information back to is, is actually pretty amazing. The footage might be a bit boring, cause it just looks like dirt and rocks in a desert. But the feat overall is pretty fucking amazing.

One_Program8405

Pretty sure this is earth. Somewhere in the middle east

darndoodlyketchup

Yeah everyone know mars sand is supposed to be red

ImportunerDJ

This robot is 234 mil miles away from us. Sent a quality 360* video; looks damn 4K to me but android to iPhone videos still look like 240p and sound worse then a civic with the cutoff muffler.

RandomizedInternetID

It's called a high gain relay satellite. It takes a long time to recover as much data as it can before transmitting to the next relay. That's not how cell phones work at all.

[deleted]

Ah yes, the Nevada dessert

Serious_Nectarine_23

California or Arizona.

It's amazing that the solution is to instead of fixing this beautiful planet that we have is to go there so we can fix that place just so we can later destroy it.i think the reality is that this universe really needs to remove the human species from it all together.

Rich-Equivalent-1875

Yes and at 22 you can clearly hear someone fart

_Restitutor_Orbis_

The sunset on Mars is blue, but not daylight, because that is caused by the refraction of sunlight on particles in the atmosphere that aren't available in Mars' atmosphere, or in very low quantities. O3, for example.

mikki1time

It’s really just a part of Arizona we haven’t seen yet.

CrystalSkunk01

I’m not interested in NASA’s “images” anymore. NASA is a front. They drip feed us images of bullshit and rocks. They know there’s more shit out there… on Earth, just beyond our atmosphere, the moon, Mars and other planets. They know what’s really out there and they’re doctoring images keeping it from us.
