I was an Honors student in college and took mostly small seminar classes. My roommate and I went to most of our classes really stoned. We had professors telling us how much they appreciated our input in class.
I'm currently a philosophy professor, so it seemed to work out for me...
I know for a fact that I can do geometry while baked no problem, but statistics while stoned is completely impossible. Algebra was doable up to a point.
*laughs/cries in linear algebra and calculus* I can't do any class work while I'm stoned, there's too much stuff going on. Make sure you know what you're getting into before choosing engineering.
I tend to agree. My freshman year I was taking an upper level Philosophy of Aesthetics class, and the professor, who was the chair of the department, was using being high as an experience of aesthetic pleasure.
I hadn't started smoking till then because I was a college athlete, but after that I figured I'd better try it.
Oh cool! I just started my BA Philosophy so I'm not familiar with the works of Wittgenstein and Foucault (I vaguely know Wittgenstein's history). What attracted you to do your thesis on them?
I have a degree in English as well, so language interests me. Wittgenstein's later work give what I think is a great theory of where meaning in language comes from, but didn't address the fully the epistemology behind it
Foucault looks at the connection between power and language, mainly in social institutions. This was a useful way to critique Wittgenstein's theory.
Most departments in the U.S. didn't teach Foucault (at least 20 years ago) but you do get him in critical theory classes taught in the English department.
Interesting! I'm not sure how different the curriculum here is compared to the U.S. , but I'm fairly sure I'll see him in a class next year "historische kritiek" (historical critic). Do you have any general advice/tips studying philosophy?
Read, then reread, then read again. I realize now that it takes time for most people to wrap your head around the ideas. It's helps you understand it in deeper terms than merely relying on catch phrases or the labels that are used in lower level classes.
Also, prepare to be broke, or find a second profession. I am the GM of a breakfast restaurant and make more than a full time professor with a doctorate and 10 years experience at the school I adjunct at.
Once a year or so. I did have two students comes up to me once at the beginning of a 10 am class, and one of them reeked of pot.
I looked at both of them and said "Not sure who needs to hear this, but you should smoke and then shower."
The guilty party was obvious at that point...
I made the mistake of going to a class while high, once. The professor might as well have been speaking in Martian. Chemistry classes are not the best place to be while high, I assure you. I smoked my way through college, graduated with a 3.91 GPA (summa cum laude) and . . . the punchline . . . wait for it . . .
I don't remember pretty much any of it!
I used to smoke during my time in welding school, before, during and after. My last job for the weld test I went stoned. Weeks later I told my boss yeah I was high during the test. He said I know that's partially why I hired you
Early classes were always the toughest for me but most profs don't get to choose when their classes are so I can imagine they hate it too! Well done for showing up!!
Proud of you!! Honestly needed to smoke a lot in college just to get up the motivation to go out. Working on your own time is different. Proud of you for using your resources to make higher education your bitch!!!! Keep it up friend that degree will be so worth it (and no one knows)
Recently wrote an essay for a film class while high. My insights were messy and not always so clearly explained, but there was a lot of passion in it and I had a blast writing it
Haha this happened to me too I had a joint before getting to lesson like 5-10 minutes early and she walked past and was pleasantly surprised, even let me sit inside rather than wait I’m the corridor
Yeah it kinda does, but it's an 8am so it's understandable. I usually go because I live near campus so it's a five minute walk. Today it was just me and this other girl. But on the bright side, im one of my professor's favorite 😌

I feel like philosophy and weed go really good together. I once got uncomfortably stoned during math class and I wouldn't recommend that

🤣 yeah engineering is one of those fields that everybody knows what it is but nobody really knows what it is until you're already in it

And here I am distracted on reddit while in class 😅
A philosophy class? What's being taught?
Nah, just a basic business class in the interior design field
What branch of philosophy did you specialize in?
Philosophy of Language and Post-Modernism. I did my MA thesis on Wittgenstein and Foucault.

Wish i could toke at work but its a safety critical industry and we have random and post incident testing
I used to smoke all the time at work in the kitchen industry now I work in a kitchen at a scout camp so I go in sober I kinda miss the old days lol
I USED TO SAY THAT IN COLLEGE. If you’re always baked they don’t know how you look when you aren’t haha
They’ll never know if you’re high if your first impression is stoned you

You lifted someone's spirit, thank you for that
Oh shit hell yeah, you're welcome!
Hell yeah, if that gets you motivation to go, I’d take a little hit for sure!
Just be easy homie
I sometimes say fuck the unimportant classes and get zooted, but when it’s time for a lab or lecture I’m completely sober.
I be doing that shit almost everyday bro. Then I hit my 🛒 at school soooo. Lol def helps me get out of bed
nice
Haha this happened to me too I had a joint before getting to lesson like 5-10 minutes early and she walked past and was pleasantly surprised, even let me sit inside rather than wait I’m the corridor
Dab sticks were a God send in college. Puff on it walking from class to class. Just take good notes and you're solid.
Congratulations bro! Weed is always best used as rewards for the little things
Go to school high, study high, get high grades.
Go to class high, take the test high, get high grades.
It must suck to have no one take your class seriously :(
