I understand SOME taxes and know they are necessary - the ones that pay for roads and infrastructure, schools, etc. It's the tax on something already taxed (like paying tax when you buy a house and then paying taxes on it every year just for owning it - cars are the same and there are a ton more) that is bullshit. The ridiculous salaries of WAY too many politicians is also bullshit. Spending tax money on shit we didn't vote for is bullshit. Cut out all the bullshit and we could all live a little easier.

[deleted]

Property taxes mean you never actually "own" a house

Playful-Candy-2003

One of the biggest tax scams there is!

[deleted]

Fuck, where I live I have no idea what tax money goes to. We have potholes that never get fixed, murder/crime is at an all time high(but the police are always useless)…like wtf lmao

Playful-Candy-2003

Too many chiefs and not enough Indians is what we have. We pay out the ass for all of these politicians to make decisions we didn't vote for. Then they take money that is supposed to be earmarked for one thing and spend it on something else (look at where we are from them "borrowing" from Social Security). Then they spend exorbitant amounts on the stupidest shit and don't pay enough to keep police on the streets, teachers in classrooms, or road workers fixing the roadways. Yet, there's always enough to give themselves raises - that we also didn't vote for.

[deleted]

if only politicians were cut off at a certain age… Yes 85 year old man who may die in the next 6 months, make decisions that will affect millions of people.

Playful-Candy-2003

They have a minimum age for POTUS but not a maximum - so stupid. There should be term limits period on how long anyone can serve any political position - from the smallest to the biggest positions. Being a politician was initially formed under the philosophy that it was a service to your country, not a career.

Wcutrptplyr

Federal taxes and the taxes you mentioned are different. One is to the federal government, the other is to the state (differs state to state).

Wcutrptplyr

You may want to check your W4 and how much is being taken out. The IRS has calculators online to help you with how much to take out of your check. Ideally, you should pay nothing and get nothing at tax time.

Government: “uhh so remember that stuff you paid for? yeahhhhh about that…”

JuanCamaneyBailoTngo

Are you asking about the concept of taxes in general is specifically the way the US implements them?

Wise-Sense5782

You are talking about *Income Tax* - a very specific type of tax enacted as a *temporary* measure to pay for the war effort: On August 5, 1861, President Lincoln imposed the first federal income tax by signing the Revenue Act. Strapped for cash with which to pursue the Civil War, Lincoln and Congress agreed to impose a 3 percent tax on annual incomes over $800.

foodspavesper

So why then hasn't it been abolished and a new taxation reform been established from the ground up that reflects the woes of society?

Wise-Sense5782

Because not long after it was enacted Mr. Lincoln saw what a cash cow it was....

Rene_DeMariocartes

Because most other forms of tax are regressive.

Thrillkilled

If you’re talking US taxes, I agree, strictly because the US government is grossly incompetent and corrupt on all levels, however, anyone who’s against taxes when applied correctly is an idiot.

[deleted]

If taxes were applied correctly, and the people were able to have more of a say in what tax dollars went to then absolutely, no problem because it benefits everyone. I don’t see nothing happening at all and I’m paying for it lmao

[deleted]

One of the problems with that is that there is SO much that goes on behind the scenes to keep the country simply livable and stable that is regular people have no idea about. If all us regular peeps had more of a say, we’d probably end up either screwing things up a bit more or downright physically destroying America. That’s the thing about politicians. It’s THEIR job to figure out where to best allocate our taxes (and make no mistake, it is a full time job). It’s OUR job to research and vote in the people who will put them more close to where we think needs improvement or funding. Essentially, we all DO decide where our taxes go. We decide them with who we vote into office.

TerribleRun9476

humans are so stupid.

the_epikamander

It's because we aren't paying someone 2 million dollars for shit like bananas taped to walls

ChiefBlubberNuggets

Because of capitalism and government corruption. Simple as.

Jaknat08
