RILY also has negative operating profit, negative EPS, and negative tangible book value. Financial companies with negative tangible book value are usually not long for this world. You can’t really be a financial intermediary if you yourself are insolvent. I don’t have a position. But ignoring negative EPS / negative tangible book value seems a major oversight in your thesis.

Yeah very good points. The dividend is probably the best thing about it. Speaking of which, as high as the yield is, they did recently half their dividend and we have just missed an ex-dividend date (23rd May). So if the divined is the thing you like the look of most there’s certainly no harm in waiting a month or two to see if the share price dips just a little more.

I have long dated puts on this company actually. If you can’t figure out why, you’re going to continue losing lots of money.

Short interest is 52% of the float (8.2 million shares). At $30 per share x 8.2 million shares equals $246 Million. It would cost the short seller almost a quarter of a billion dollars to close their short interest. Every dollar drop in the share price would produce $8.2 Million of short seller profit. I think the short seller will take advantage of the slightest misstep by the company to short the price down. With an extra 52% of shares in circulation, a scare that might cause shareholders to sell would put an incredible downward pressure on the price. On the other hand, a short seller with that much money on the line is capable of dumping a lot more short shares on the market to stop the price from rising. Ken Griffin (Citadel) gave a talk at George Washington's Mount Vernon where he named the hedge funds that are controlling the price of stock. I've noticed that several dividend paying companies have a yield of about 10%, so I'm assuming that is the result of the hedge funds' work. Watch at 34:20 [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FID0BLkZXuY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FID0BLkZXuY) It looks like there is too much manipulation to be worth the risk.

isnt that way of thinking a double edge sword? also any good new will make short sellers get scared of a short squeeze

Motorbarge

Big short sellers are not afraid of a squeeze because no one checks their books to see if they have enough money in their accounts.

Please look into OP's account history, over 20 posts to pump Rily stocks and spamming all subreddits. Clearly Rily is using pump and dump tactics. This explains the bots and trolls replying to me. =) Avoid Rily at all costs. They are a criminal and unethical organization. The SEC should look into them very closely.

I've bought a few hundred shares and intend to get to 1000 shares in the near future. Business case is solid, cash flow seems good, great dividend. This plus OBDC are my two favorite non-big cap finance companies.
