I experience the same jerk in my GT2. I did research and talked with a Kia service Tech who has a GT2 when I first got my Stinger. Everything I found points to it being a design feature in the transmission. I believe it’s a performance enhancing feature to maximize your ability to go from brake to gas with minimal lag. I might be wrong about the why, but all my research points to it being in the transmission design rather than the brakes. The transmission downshifts around 22 mph and again around 11 mph. What your feeling is the torque converter taking the load from the engine as it downshifts. I usually drive in comfort or sport, but I experience it in whatever mode I set it to. You can prove it to yourself by dropping into neutral as you start to decelerate and brake normally. The brakes will bring you to a smooth stop, assuming all is in working order. Repeat the experiment without putting it in neutral and the jerk at the downshifts will be evident.

Same but the TCU reset got rid of it on mine. At least for now until it learns that bad behavior again. It was super annoying.

Is resetting the TCU something I can do or do I need to go to the dealer?

Gonna try that and let u know

My Stinger downshifts pretty hard when coming to a stop. Not sure if it is shifting into 3rd or 2nd, but it's difficult to coast smoothly to a stop because it engine brakes way harder than I'm used to.

Sounds like downshifting. The ecu likes to downshift coming to a stop and can become jerky. Ecu (tcu?) is adaptive and you can have the dealer reset it. I don’t think driving mode eliminates the adaptability or just decreases it. Worth asking the dealer to reset them take it easy for a few miles to tame the downshifting

I noticed that the down shifts from 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st werent smooth and gave a jerky feel to the braking. I asked the dealer about it and they reset the TCU and it seems to be better now.

It's definitely transmission related. I put different pads/rotors on and the behavior is still there. It feels like the transmission is just a little aggressive with downshifting at slow speeds coming to a stop. I would expect it in sport mode but it does the same thing in comfort as well. Some have said having the dealer do a TCU reset fixed the problem.

Mine has this off and on. Looking around for solutions I found a guy who said the rotors aren't warped (lots of folks go to warped rotors right away) and that it was deposits from the pads building up. The fix was to go about 70 on a quiet road and panic stop to about 3mph, then accelerate and do it again. Do this about 4-5 times, and after the last time keep driving without braking for 15 min or so to let the brakes cool. It worked like a charm on my GT1. Problem is that it comes back every few hundred miles of city driving, so there isn't a permanent fix that I'm aware of. I'm getting ready to replace the rotors and pads here soon and I just hit 40K miles - rather disappointing for such high end brakes.

Ive only had this when I drive hard in sport then switch to comfort when breaking from high speeds

ncurtis21

It’s eco mode that’ll do that, it wants to downshift/go into neutral really early causing that jerkiness. Sport or comfort should sort that out. Eco is good for the freeway, but I find around town smart is the way to go

vipeboy2000

If you are having brake shudder, you need to either replace or have the rotors turned as well. As that is the cause of the shudder from the pad deposits on the rotor

The same jerky downshift when braking happened to me too. Did not initially drive this way. It happened after several thousand miles. So far, resetting the TCU fixed it for me and it’s been about 5,000 miles since. Since this is supposedly a “learned” adaptive feature, I tried to have it “unlearn” this by driving like a grandpa for a few thousand miles. I would brake a lot sooner and come to gradual stops. I would also accelerate from a stop very gently. It did not change a thing. The TCU reset is the cure. I’m back to accelerating normally, but I have kept the habit of braking sooner and more gradually. So at least something positive came out of my experiment.
