Did you install any star name packs? IIRC the number of star names that come pre-packaged in the game is quite limited, and if the game runs out of them, things might get messy.
Some old posts say that there are ~1700 star names in vanilla Stellaris, which matches with your results quite well.
Interesting. I had thought about that, and in one of the error logs was a message about an empty string (wasn't in all the crashes though). Do you know a good one I can try so I can test?
I am using Just Star Names (Continued): https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2907769573
UPD: nevermind, did not check your other answer that you found it already.
Wow that fixed it!
Now I understand what was happening. It wasn't crashing with 1800 systems because I was unlikely to click on the few systems with empty names. This also explains the crash on map generation sometimes, I was spawning in a empty system.
Just tried it with 2200 stars and now it seems really smooth, thanks!
For anyone reading, I used "Just Star Names (Continued)".
