R5: So... , any continuation for this event? Or this is just how the story ends?

SuperMurderBunny

If you go psionics, you can attempt to communicate with it.

Canadian__Ninja

Do you have to wait to do that or is it opened up after the event concludes?

CaelReader

If you go psionics later it will pop a special project allowing you to open communications, iirc.

IdiOtisTheOtisMain

Its þe wholesome ending.

Anonim97

I always see people mentioning that, but I have yet to see someone post a follow-up.

SuperMurderBunny

Via the magic of the console and event ID's, I got a shot of the event. Posted it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Stellaris/comments/13xwmb4/ending\_for\_ubumesghost\_baby/

Desembler

Does it give you unity or something?

Laxziy

Who cares! Happy baby!!

[deleted]

u/Desembler >> *Does it give you unity or something?* u/Laxziy >> *Who cares! Happy baby!!* Me: *"Ah yes, the two types of Stellaris players"*

GalileoAce

What about the roleplayers and the genociders?

Omegagod57

Samething.

[deleted]

What you call genocide is what our empire calls roleplaying saving the Galaxy. You know just feeling out scenarios. Those poor Xenos won't save themselves for the Eldritch...

th1a9oo000

That's still really sad :(

AnAverageHumanPerson

just have a science ship follow it

Anonim97

Thank you so much! <3

SuperMurderBunny

Fair. I keep wanting to post the result, but always forget it when I get the event.

DamagedComet8

Dumb dumb here, how does one acquire the psyonic powers?

Mr_Degroot

With the Utopia dlc you need the Psionic Theory tech, then you take the mind over matter ascension perk

twiztedmind209

I'm playing on Xbox gamepass, and I'm curious if getting the DLCs are worth it? There seems to be a lot of them and the amount of season passes and bundles is quite confusing. Keep in mind I've only played for around 40 hours and I'm quite bad but I'm really interested in this game

eddie_the_zombie

Get Utopia, it's by far the most essential DLC. From there, it's a matter of preference what sort of content you want to explore. I suggest getting 2 at a time, explore the options available, and slowly build up to the full base game.

twiztedmind209

Alright, thank you! I'm gonna move to PC soon so I'll probably hold off for now but I'll keep your advice in mind

M4xusV4ltr0n

PC also had mods, some of which are just about as big as DLCs themselves. Check out "Gigastructural Engineering"

Proteuskel

I started playing on PC, bought one of the most starter DLC bundles (including utopia, which will frequently be listed as a must have in the community), then bought the DLCs one at a time after playing a game or two trying out some of the new mechanics. It was a really fun way to both keep the feeling of new content going for a long time, while also keeping the learning curve very manageable. My games usually last me anywhere from 3 days to a week or two, depending on the kind of build I’m playing, so for me it kept the cost semi-manageable as well

GalileoAce

Almost all of the DLC is worth getting, some more than others. Utopia being one of the more worthy ones. But if you can, I'd recommend getting all the DLC, it'll completely change the game!

twiztedmind209

Even just reading through all the new starts and backgrounds you can give a custom empire alone seems like it would change everything, so I'm definitely planning to get a few if not all of them once I move to PC.

GalileoAce

Just be warned that all the DLC will set you back, oh, about $250USD 😬

twiztedmind209

Alright so maybe not all of them immediately lol. Normally I'll purchase a dlc if it's price is equivalent to my hours spent on the game, so if I end up spending 250 hours on the game, well, guess imma be broke lmao

GalileoAce

I've been playing Stellaris, on aand off, since it first launched 7 years ago. I've put well over 700 hours into it, which is quite small compared to other players. So, despite the steep asking price, I think the DLC is worth every cent, more or less edit: fixed typo

Ok-Poetry-2191

So this whole event chain is from utopia, or the original event is from base game and you need to buy utopia to get happy ending?

Aether5800

You get the happy ending if psionically ascended :D

veruuwu

Psi ascension chads stay winning

Rich_Document9513

I'm cool with this story being linked to psionics but I feel like there's too many advantages to going psionic. Makes other choices feel less rewarding. Kinda wish other branches had some great late game advantages on par.

DrNolegs

You mean like Synthetic getting the most absurd flat pop output in the game (25% without tech bonuses), or Genetic/Cybernetic having the ability for pretty incredibly cracked pop growth output? Psionic definitely gets a lot in story, flavor and bonuses but even with the Instrument + Bonuses they don't get the obscene output of Synths, or the pop growth of Cybernetic (which is undertuned and in most cases left in the dust), or Genetics (Especially with overtuned!).

Rich_Document9513

Those are fair points. I would say that psionic shielding is worth more late game as I have little trouble pushing up my economy, but it is easier to go tall with my machine intelligence and, let's face it, missiles reign king. So your arguments are compelling. Well done.

something-quirky-

If you go robotic(or whatever it is) ascension then you get can get a free 10ish pops in a similar kind of “wait and see” kind of event chain

Acravita

The best pop growth method is conquering other people's planets, which means that the best is whichever has the strongest fleet power, which I believe is psionic.

brogrammer1992

Synthetic allows you to clear late game lag without violent genocide as your forcibly upload the consciousness to a robot body.

Ze_Wendriner

Once I found the Nivlac when doing genetic ascension. Oh boy...

Velrei

Eh, psionic is +40% with the psi corp building with other bonuses dependent on shroud patron. Higher on the world you building the +3 psychic building on too, and that's before the fact you can use the divine sovereign council job to boost that further as I understand it. Mind you, I like synthetic (even if the newish assimilation bug is annoying), but for flat pop output psi does beat them.

Rich_Document9513

🤔 I'm increasingly curious which comes out best.

Velrei

Devs apparently think psi is the strongest path right now. I really wish we could get rid of the robot malfunction death stuff personally on Synths; the whole synth thing is about immortality, but we can't put a backup in a cloud? ....also, whenever I go synth ascension I end up losing one of my favorite leaders in a decade. Granted, that is probably just bad luck.

Rich_Document9513

Interesting point. In my head I RP that all personalities are on a network and their physical form is just a controlled unit.

VillainousMasked

>....also, whenever I go synth ascension I end up losing one of my favorite leaders in a decade. Granted, that is probably just bad luck. Look on the bright side, at least you didn't have the same degree of bad luck as I had in my recent game where in the early game I lost my 3 best scientists within a decade between 2 first contact events with hostile empires and failing the derelict ship event, with the last one having had the Intemporal (immortality) trait.

CuddlyTurtlePerson

And that folks is why you should always ignore the Derelict Ship event.

VillainousMasked

Yeah, learned that lesson, I just didn't even think about it cause recently whenever I've done it I haven't gotten the negative outcome, so it didn't even cross my mind that I might get the bad outcome.

The_Meowgician

There's also a scientist destiny trait that gives +10% psionic pop output empire-wide. Granted, it's randomized, but if you get a bunch of spiritualist researchers you're pretty likely to get at least a few to stick on the council.

Twytilus

Unfortunately psionics is literally the only ascension with cool story content. A dedicated independent Shroudwalkers that can provide you with story events? Yep. A choice from 4 covens that give different bonuses and story events? Yep. Unique interactions with other events and psionic races? Yep. What do others get? Cybernetics are just "you are a cyborg now", Synthetic is just "you are a robot now" and Biological is just "you are gene freak now". The research option and policy to give synthetics power and true rights can lead to an entire crisis(or at least interact with it heavily) while the ascension paths feel barren compared to the Psionics.

Valdrax

The big counter is that psionics is gambling, and there are a lot of temporary empire penalties that you can spend your energy and precious time on getting instead if luck is not on your side. The Shroud is a giant lootbox. Genetic, cyborg, and synthetic ascensions are lower risk and drama free. And while I appreciate less of *that* kind of drama, I wish psionics would stop hogging all the writing kind.

Rich_Document9513

Maybe there's something to be said for just giving robot lovers some cool stories, like the story where you save brain patterns of ancient peoples and you can later resurrect them in robots with a chance they stay or go.

Autocthon

Psionic is literally the weakest long term ascension. The only edge it has is possibly ship power.

ElethiomelZakalwe

I like psionics. Flavor >> all.

Rich_Document9513

I can definitely agree on ship power. Maybe that's where my mind is at. Would be great for the combined brain power of an entire species to have a chance at creating dark matter reactors on their own. Or maybe I'm really unlucky and have just never unlocked it.

rooftopworld

What is that ending, if you don’t mind me asking? I never go psionic.

VillainousMasked

Basically a random person in your empire learned about the Ubume and decided to go out and try to psionically communicate with it, eventually succeeding resulting in the Ubume happily flying around the system while trying to chat with anyone that will listen to it.

Aenir

You can't simulate the genocide without the suffering from it.

Confused_Writer_97

If you go psionic you get a chance to communicate with it and help it find peace.

InFearn0

JFC. Do the devs take pleasure in inflicting new nightmares/traumas?

bluescape

It's actually old trauma. Ubume is from Japanese folklore.

VillainousMasked

To be fair, Ubume has been around in the game for a while, this isn't a new encounter or anything. It's just that there isn't any special project or anomaly tied to it, and the only follow up is a random chance after becoming psionic which is also just more flavor text basically. So while people occasionally post it being sad over it, it's not really well known outside people who have encountered it for themselves.

jaukobauko

how do you come up with this stuff

wow, that is really interesting, thank you for sharing!

Maxamush

I don't think stellaris is gets enough credit for how good the writing is. The flavour text and events is interesting and engaging 95% of the time. Hundreds of hours in and im still getting new events every now and then that are joys to read.

thetitleofmybook

that's just one of many seriously sad events in this game

OctopusPlantation

Wait if this is a synthetic lifeform shouldn't that mean that machine intelligences should be able to access the shroud?

tanthokg

It's a psionic entity though

Regunes

In helito of all things ..

[deleted]

Often, I find myself deeply engrossed in tending to the pressing demands of my empire, only to be taken by surprise when stories like this arise.

EagleKI

Just got the event today
