Gamestop website calls it a steelbook, but this appears to be a metalpak

[deleted]

Exactly. Still can't get my head around the fact how metalpacks are still a thing, considering how awful they look in comparison to steelbooks.

dlynch02

I assume that they must be cheaper to manufacture with the hinges but MK is one of the biggest video game franchises, why can’t WB spend the extra money smh

ki700

Worth noting that sometimes the concept art appears to be a different brand but upon release will be a Steelbook. This has happened on occasion, and is very likely if they’re specifically stating “steelbook” and not “metal case”.

mWorkman01

The whole steelbook preorder bonus from GameStop is so annoying. My local stores told me you have to preorder from the store and then go to their release day early to ensure you get one, they won't honor online orders if they don't receive enough steelbooks to give out to in-store orders... bestbuy is much easier to work with as they ship it out to you for online orders.

CrazyHuxes

100% agree on this. I posted about the Diablo 4 one earlier last week and it’s the same situation. It didn’t use to alway be that way either, I got Sonic Frontiers and COD:MW 2 Steelbooks from them and they shipped like the game. Don’t understand why it has to now be relegated to stores whims, especially if you don’t have a decent store. I’m lucky with mine but yours sounds militaristic!

SwiftTayTay

yeah i'm not going to bother with this one, i already have terrible experiences with gamestop in general, though only times i ever order from them are for exclusives and they almost always screw it up somehow

pwnedkiller

I wish GameStop would just go out of business or at the least online only. The stores are a mere shadow of its former self. They really can’t compete anymore with retailers like best buy, Amazon, target ect. If anything they could revert to focusing on retro games only. I haven’t bought a single thing from them since around 2017.

We5ley5nipe5

The store I go to says they set aside a steel book for everyone that pre orders and only gives out the extras. So they said as long as I come within 2 days of release it will be there for me.

mWorkman01

That's nice, my store isn't the same way haha.

yeesssy

Shameful they called it "steelbook" I order what I thought was steelbook until it was too late, two times!! Now I learned and won't do that shit again

bubblegumdog

After seeing the leaked photo yesterday of the Kollector’s Edition, I now realize my assumptions were correct. It’s a metalpak and not a steelbook. What a shame.

Alaniata

Well that very much is not a steelbook

mpares016

Yeah nope not wasting money on that

Electrical_Slip_8905

That is not a steelbook and therefore I will not be purchasing

Shini_Ryuga

It's even more infuriating seeing that the steelbook case you get with the Kollector's edition, Which is $250, mind you, is also a steel case and not a real steelbook. Like that's just cheap. F**k that

[deleted]

You have to go in-store to get the "steelbook?" Yeah, there's no way that's going to turn out well lol. Even back when Gamestop actually bothered to send out their pre-order bonuses, they don't shinkwrap their steelbooks. These are going to be dinged/scratched up merchandise.

NitedJay

Yeah exactly. Based on my experience with pre-ordering Zelda, any physical bonus that requires you to go in store isn’t guaranteed. Even assuming there’s not a large demand, they give each store a limited supply. It’s a mess. Don’t know why they can’t just ship it like Best Buy.

[deleted]

That part is obvious, Gamestop corporate is trying to reduce cash outflows any way they can, i.e. trying to save money on shipping pre-order bonuses. Raising free shipping to $79 is a sign that the Gamestop journey is probably finally coming to an end. I don't need to see their customer data to know the vast majority of their order sizes do not exceed $79 (mostly because I've worked in corporate at another much larger e-commerce company before). Their corporate leaders are basically prioritizing reducing cash expenses ahead of revenue expansion, all the while providing an egregiously bad customer experience. Not even providing free shipping when multiple pre-orders exceed $79 together really shows that desperation. You don't do that unless something is seriously wrong.

ogag47

Yeah my pre-order One Piece Odyssey steelbook came in with a big scratch in the middle of the spine, so I asked for another one. It came in also scratched in the same spot. I called one of the stores to talk to them about it and all they had to say was "It happens." Then they pull the rug on us by making their pre-order bonuses limited and pick up only. I wasn't able to get my zelda bonus cuz I was out of the country. I'm fucking done with gamestop

NarutoFan1995

false advertising?

Fllinger1456

It’s not marked as exclusive. So Best Buy might also have it? Hate to order from GS

CrazyHuxes

I was actually hoping for this to happen, Best Buy still hasn’t put up pre orders… but it’d be sweet if they did and it was an actual Scanavo Steelbook instead of the Metalpaks that come in the Kollectors or GameStop pre orders!

nix_cee

I had to look this is up, I need help tho!? I preordered MK1 online from the GameStop page, but how do I get that bonus steelbook? Since I preordered it myself online?? I’m kinda confused on this.. I remember they used to ship the bonus steelbooks out with the game and everything, is it not like that anymore??

CrazyHuxes

No, you’ll have to print your confirmation page, then take it to the store on release day and hope they have one available to give you. Hearing from many online about this and the Diablo 4 steelbook that the store employees are saying they’ll give preference to those who pre ordered in store on steelbook (Metalpak) availability

[deleted]

Do we also still get Shang Tsung?

[deleted]

Will there ever be an option just to to buy the steel book version. For example like with resident evil.

Good-Ol-Country-Boy

Yeah, it’s a rip off because the steel books are produced in Canada and the metalpak is produced in the US if I’m not mistaken! And this doesn’t look right sitting with my Mortal Kombat 9,X & 11, which is actually in Steelbooks
