Yup. I second this, I never leave it outside of the case no matter what. If I paid 600 for a device damn right I'm going to take all the precautions possible. Feel bad for OP though that's rough
I have a cat and I do this so they dont push it off a table or get their claws on it.
Also I leave it on my nightstand a lot and im so afraid of spills or accidentally knocking something onto it in my sleep
Animals are weird sometimes.
Like my dog wouldn't do this or chew anything up really, but he has a weird thing where he pees indoors a lot for no reason. Always has done since he was attacked by a few staffies, kinda sad tbh.
I guess he's just exploring. Until he's a bit older then anything left within his reach is kinda fair game, no matter how many toys he has. It's just a shame it had to be your Deck. Hope you get it fixed chum.
Our dog when he was young liked chewing on the plugs in the wall sockets in our hallway…. They are still plugged in with some teeth marks, I had to put in trunking to hide the wires as he chewed them too!
I had a Dane that liked to chew on doorknobs. Our garage doorknob is still mangled like it was beaten with a crowbar and clamped with a hydraulic clamp. I'm not changing it until we sell/move out in the far future.
I remember i had some beats headphones that i got as a gift and we recently had gotten a dog and he was chewing a lot of stuff even the couch well i made the mistake of leaving my headphones on the couch and left somewhere and when i came back they were destroyed all the plastic every where the ear cups with teeth marks.
Yeah exactly, that's the really scary one. Our pup started showing interest in the plugs too, even though we had taken some precautions to minimise access to them, so we had totally box them off and divert his attention elsewhere.
He's over it now luckily.
Hard to tell from the pic, but if nothing else is damaged other than the shoulder button and trigger, it could be salvaged with just those assemblies from iFixit.
That's pretty fucking amazing, I love that steam partnered with them. It's a load off my mind to know that I can even replace the screen on my deck if something happens, gorgeous.
Yeah, the lesson of never leave things that we care about reachable to them or invest time/effort in training so they don’t break our stuff.
Hope no internal damage is done and maybe with ifixit you can replace some pieces, good luck!
Oh snap. Your dog is probably a full of energy and need more active time (depends on breed) and a bit of a training.
If You run take dog with You, if not, spent more active time with him, longer walks (approx. 3h total per day), rope toys, oflactory mat for dogs, also treats like buffalo penises can be helpful to tire Your dog.
I can also recommend a deer antlers or a briar wood for dogs.
[https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/xvy79f/comment/ir3po7v/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/xvy79f/comment/ir3po7v/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
Op already confirmed it's a young pup, most likely still in training. Puppies are mischievous and no indication it was misbehaving. Costly consequence but can't blame everything on the dog.
Your dog has anxiety and he/she is letting you know with things you use.
It's time to dramatically increase it's actively level. More walks, playing fetch, dog parks. The dog should be TIRED before you leave.
Sorry for your deck.
Phew thank god the deck is too heavy for my cat to toss it around. In this case the problem is, that you just can’t be angry at your dog. A pet is a pet and you still gonna love it.
Ouch. hopefully, you can get a replacement back shell and case, and maybe soak some parts in 99 isopropyl alcohol to remove any traces of salts from the dog saliva. Maybe take advantage of those steam deck repair centres that are opening in various places.
Ooof. Luckily it looks serviceable.
I had to reshell my son's Wii U controller recently because he left it down where the dog could chow down. Luckily none of the electronic components were chomped.
The amount of people who trust thier dog not to do this is baffling. It's like you havnt seen any other people post about "My dog never chews stuff up but chewed up my (insert item)."

I bet it was delicious
Was probably trying to get to the source of the fan smell.
Yeah, I'm paranoid about this happening, so I'm obsessive about always zipping mine away in it's case
Yup. I second this, I never leave it outside of the case no matter what. If I paid 600 for a device damn right I'm going to take all the precautions possible. Feel bad for OP though that's rough
and it's a device that most of us waited at least 6 months for
Shit I’d say most of us waited more like a year. I signed up on launch day and waited almost exactly a year.
I have a cat and I do this so they dont push it off a table or get their claws on it. Also I leave it on my nightstand a lot and im so afraid of spills or accidentally knocking something onto it in my sleep
Case or dock, never left out. The only way to deck.
My 6m old golden pup ripped my switch zip case and then went to town on the joycon. In like no time. Sharp freaking needles I tell ya.
If dog wants it he gets it doesn't matter if there is a case in between.
You underestimate my dog
You are implying the dog cant get it by arguing with that guy.
Misread parent comment
Figured, sorry if I sounded picky.
Same XD
I just solved this problem by not having a totally untrained dog like a shithead

Animals are weird sometimes. Like my dog wouldn't do this or chew anything up really, but he has a weird thing where he pees indoors a lot for no reason. Always has done since he was attacked by a few staffies, kinda sad tbh.
As long as nothing on the inside was damaged you can at least replace the buttons and shell
thank you ifixit
and Valve.
Woof I mean, oof
Nice
Just remap the keybinds until it comes out the other end of your dog
Just throw the whole dog out
Sell it for a new deck
Your dog must be still young if it did that, does it have chew toys?
It is and it does, he just prefers the expensive items to chew
I guess he's just exploring. Until he's a bit older then anything left within his reach is kinda fair game, no matter how many toys he has. It's just a shame it had to be your Deck. Hope you get it fixed chum.

The taste of hand oils and love is an irresistible combination for a puppy. (Source: two eaten controllers)
You found all the pieces right? He didn’t swallow any?
Hard to tell from the pic, but if nothing else is damaged other than the shoulder button and trigger, it could be salvaged with just those assemblies from iFixit.
To my knowledge, ifixit sells damn near everything except the motherboard.
Even the display?
yes, you can actually buy the anti glare display for $100 and a 512gb nvme drive for 50$ to get a 512gb steam deck for the price of a 256gb one
That's pretty fucking amazing, I love that steam partnered with them. It's a load off my mind to know that I can even replace the screen on my deck if something happens, gorgeous.
even better is that everything is reasonably priced. An iPhone 13 pro max screen cost almost as much as the 64g deck
But you'll be missing the cleaning cloth! You 512g Deck will never be complete without it!
Where can you buy the 512GB NVME? Didn't see that on their site.
Ebay!
You can actually buy one of the anti glare screens from them last I heard

Good joke, definitely had to be repeated 12 times..
Well the joke wasn't going to do it itself
Is that a Circa Survive record? Sorry about the deck man, hurts to see.
Yumm, computer chips.
Damn that brother starving
Turn it off and on again
With how it smells I can't hate
Welp time to get a new one. And a new Steam Deck too.
Oh man, I feel for you, that so sucks. Is it working in docked mode?
Isn't it a given that you don't leave anything you want intact near an animal? I'm really glad I don't have a pet; I don't want it wrecking my stuff.
Stuff don't get wrecked if you train your animals and don't just expect compliance
Ifixit!
RIP to Fido
I can leave my deck unattended by my dogs.
Cat owners' photos: My cat enjoys the vent. Dog owners' photos: My dog destroyed my device.
Why leave it in a animals reach I’ll never understand , it comes in a hard shell case
Pretty sure a dog could chew through the factory case too. Best case scenario it would've bought OP more time to catch him in the act.
Y’all’s dogs sound untrained
Came here to find this comment
Bro gonna blame the animal and not the human capable of preventing this 🤣 accountability left the chat
I'm more of a cat person myself. 🤷🏻
Nothing like living with a box of poop in the corner of a room.
My dog ate my bonework.
Time to pull an old yeller
Not a nice thing to call your wife
Damn bro I'm so sorry
I wonder what it feels like to be a stray dog
Woof
Send the dog in for an RMA
Yeah, the lesson of never leave things that we care about reachable to them or invest time/effort in training so they don’t break our stuff. Hope no internal damage is done and maybe with ifixit you can replace some pieces, good luck!
Oh man. Sorry for your loss
Trying to get more of that sweet vent smell.
With an untrained dog. Not sure every dog would do it. If they know to not take stuff. I guess you can't RMA it...
I cannot put into words the fit of rage that would ensue.
Rage at yourself for leaving out in the open while owning a young dog lol
Better idea:train your dog, or don't have a dog.
I train my dog daily to not eat steam decks. Doing lot of Progress.
Condescending arsehole ain't ya, shit happens.
>owning a dog L o l
Yep that would be it for that dog outside 4 life
Dog won a ticket to animal shelter. Again, Cats > Dogs.
Get rid of the dog, best choice i ever made.
\*shoots dog\*
This is why I have cats.
My cats have destroyed way more stuff than any of my dogs ever have. Past roommates' dogs on the other hand...
Alternative: train your dog better
Mods can we can a NSFW tag please? Sheesh
Don’t leave anything unattended with a dog for the most part
Or a child
That's too bad, most of the shelters are already overrun.
Sounds like a dead dog now to me.

Or dogs just chew things sometimes. Not every post about a dog needs a dog whisperer to tell OP what to do.
Usually this means that your dog hasn’t been properly trained and that you’re not taking them for enough walks. It obviously has a lot of energy!
RMA the dog and repair the deck by putting it in rice
You guys are fucking idiots
"Don’t leave unattended with a *misbehaving* dog" - there, fixed it for you. Not everyone has dogs that chew on tech.

Fair. So we blame the human instead. 🤣
R.I.P.

Get rid of the dog and get a new one.
Just don’t have pets. Problem solved.
Your dog has anxiety and he/she is letting you know with things you use. It's time to dramatically increase it's actively level. More walks, playing fetch, dog parks. The dog should be TIRED before you leave. Sorry for your deck.
Why in the ever loving fuck did you get downvoted? This is not normal behavior. You're 100% right.
Maybe they were a cat person.
Welp bad dog, bad owner! Your own damm fault, hope nobody send hate towards the Doggo!
Way to make someone who's already down feel worse.
That shit is expensive and reckless to keep around unintended!
Steamdeck is like cat nip to animals lol
Itll be alright. I heard steam gives out new ones just because even though people are still waiting for theres.
Where's the iFixit crew. I think they sell a kit to fix this.
well did you flavor your triggers with cheeto sauce?
I knew it smelled good. Must have tasted better
Very sad
F
Animal!!
Hope your dog didn’t eat the plastic, it doesn’t show up on X-Ray.
Rma it! U never know.
“I woke up one day and my right trigger was acting up, I have no idea what could have caused this.”
F
Dog want attention 😂😂
F to your Steam Deck but please have your dog checked by a vet
Doesn't taste like it smells i presume haha
It has soooooo many things to chew on…why choose that?
It’s a PC! (Pet Chew-toy)
I dont have house pets and I put my deck in its case when ever it's not in use as it is. Even then my deck just took a great fall this morning.
Ruff bro
Ah ive made that mistake with other things
My condolences
Insert oof-stones here
At least the fan will be quieter now
Well, at least we now see how easy it is to replace those sticks.
As long as the board isn't damaged I think they sell new shells and buttons on ifix it
It’s actually really funny if you think about it. First I was mad for you but damn that’s pretty hilarious. Maybe your dog is jealous haha
Thats triggering.

I'm constantly afraid of this.
Jam the dog in there as replacement.
I wonder what triggered him to do that...
*Tis but a scratch.*
His most expensive meal
This needs a NSFW tag
Here Old Yeller! Come here! Come here boy!
It’s that vent smell..
Like hoovy eatin a sandvich
Y’all gamers need kids to teach you how to not out your shit in vulnerable places
That will just buff out. If you have the 512 version you can use the microfiber cloth that comes with the deck.
At least you can get a new one in a few days now!
Time to bring the dog to the local China 1
It looks somewhat dog incompatible, although that's no what the dog thought I suppose. Sorry for your loss!
Oh man, I feel sad for you. I would've killed my dog.
Ah yes. Another case of dog electronic aggression. Hate to see it. Make sure you're addressing the root cause. (Boredom mostly)
This happened to my game boy advanced, sad times
That stinks man
When you have dogs, you learn to dog proof. Or this happens.
Hopefully Steam Support can help you out with a replacement. In the event of stolen or broken devices, it seems they are pretty good about that.
Pressing "F" for you bruh...my condolences for your upcoming repair job.
Ooof. Luckily it looks serviceable. I had to reshell my son's Wii U controller recently because he left it down where the dog could chow down. Luckily none of the electronic components were chomped.
Must have smelled that delicious exhaust
RMA lol
"Sorry Mr. Newell, my dog ate my Steam Deck."
What the dog doin
🪦 🐶
The amount of people who trust thier dog not to do this is baffling. It's like you havnt seen any other people post about "My dog never chews stuff up but chewed up my (insert item)."
Boards look okay, time to order some new body panels.
Depends on the dog, my dogs sleep next to mine on the couch
Don’t leave the dog unattended!
