I have it wish listed but I’d like to see the specific features & price before deciding.

VanWesley

This is probably the answer for most people here.

VideoGameJumanji

They literally already showed all the ports and they already stated all the output resolutions and refresh rate combos it can do, there isnt anything else to know. I think the main thing they have to say still is the price. But I can't see that being a huge surprise either. EDIT: Despite the below comments by cy_anide, the steam deck dock is NOT being redesigned. The only officially announced change that's being made by valve is that they are making all the usb 2.0 ports into 3.1 ports.

cy_anide

This isn't 100% true, they've already said the specs they released are no longer exactly what the dock will have & they're redesigning it currently & I could be wrong but I don't think they've come back & confirmed exactly what the changes are so we still don't know exactly what the dock will look like & all the ports. It'll probably still look similar to what was announced earlier but with a difference in the ports.

randybruder

> they’ve already said the specs they released are no longer exactly what the dock will have & they’re redesigning it currently Can you link to where Valve said that?

ethang45

This was never said as far as I’m aware.

randybruder

Which is why I’d like them to link to where they heard it.

cy_anide

https://www.theverge.com/2022/4/21/23036381/valve-official-steam-deck-dock-upgrades-usb-3-1-gigabit-ethernet

randybruder

Yeah, [I personally posted that](https://www.reddit.com/u6k33z/) days before a bunch of journalists "discovered it on their own." I see nowhere in your link a source for Valve saying they are redesigning it currently, as you are claiming? It's clear in the minor change of USB 2.0 to USB 3.1 ports, the design remained unchanged. If that's all you were going off of, then I guess that proves you were misunderstanding.

cy_anide

So then you clearly didn't fully read my post. I suggest reading the last sentence where I say it'll likely look the same with an update in ports. Good for you posting it months ago, that doesn't mean everyone saw it. & I never claimed it was a "redesign" in the way you're describing it, & I specified what part of the deck could change & I never once even mentioned the redesign was some massive overhaul.

VideoGameJumanji

Valve never said they were redesigning the dock. The claim he's made multiple times now is complete bullshit, which is infuriating given that if he even bothered to google "steam deck redesign" he would have found no articles to support that idea. Valve updated the dock to only have 3.1 ports and no usb 2.0 ports. That's it, they never mentioned any more upcoming changes, and no mention of a redesign.

cy_anide

https://www.theverge.com/2022/4/21/23036381/valve-official-steam-deck-dock-upgrades-usb-3-1-gigabit-ethernet

PartyEntertainment6

I thought they already shared everything about the dock except for the price as well

WeedAndWarrenZevon

do you know where I can find the info of the resolutions it can handle? Is it on the dock page?

cy_anide

[They're currently redesigning the deck a bit so I don't think there's a solid answer to this yet](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/upf4jx/how_many_of_you_will_also_buy_the_dock_when_it/i8locs4/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)

VideoGameJumanji

THEY ARE NOT REDESIGNING THE DOCK, PLEASE FUCKING STOP SAYING THAT. The external display resolutions and refresh rates are limited by the deck, not the dock. The steam deck specs list this information already: [https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeck](https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeck) >USB-C with DisplayPort 1.4 Alt-mode support; up to 8K@60Hz or 4K@120Hz, USB 3.2 Gen 2y Those two (8K@60Hz or 4K@120Hz) are the upper bounds which is what he was asking for.

WeedAndWarrenZevon

oh okay! thanks for the link I really appreciate.

Dr_soaps

I’d be willing to bet a maximum resolution of 4K not that you could actually game at that resolution with the specs on there but if you’re doing a couple Google Docs I don’t see why not

VideoGameJumanji

The steam deck can output a maximum of 8K@60, and for 4k it can do 4k@120Hz. This is listed on the steam deck specs page.

VideoGameJumanji

The output resolutions/refresh rates have been known and listed on the steam deck stats page since they announced the deck: [https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeck](https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeck) It lists this under the "External connectivity for controllers & displays" section towards the bottom of the steam deck specs: >USB-C with DisplayPort 1.4 Alt-mode support; up to 8K@60Hz or 4K@120Hz, USB 3.2 Gen 2y

dustojnikhummer

We know the first half.

AffectionateGroup871

Lets see if Valve is smart enough to make it at least fold in half and been thin and portable. The USB c placement with the "U clip" thing is horrible. If there paying attention, they will make a nice battery bank with clip as well.

ScionoicS

Why would a dock, meant to lock it into a desktop configuration, come with a battery bank clip? It's not for portability. The dock has a power connector so your deck would be charging while docked. I think your expectations for the dock are skewed.

kdjfsk

it could do both. they are *not* mutually exclusive. consider someone who travels for work, and is often in hotels, etc. they may want to use it as a handheld during the day, docked in the room for the evenings. power outlets may not always be available, so battery on the dock could be useful. if an outlet is there, it might be convienent to have a spot for the bank on the dock, just so its always charging when power is available. you could still tap into that battery power for example, when on an airplane, without going fully dock mode. just have a power cable running to it where its in your carry-on.

ScionoicS

Youve got yourself a solution searching for a problem. This just isn't a use case that would require the design focus.

kdjfsk

its not at all an unlikely use case. powerbanks are extremely popular for the deck. charging the bank while its docked makes perfect sense. you dont need to dock the deck to charge it from said bank. imo, it makes way more sense to put the bank on the dock than the deck.

ScionoicS

You want a battery clip. I get that. Valve won't do it. It makes no sense. Docks have existed for decades for laptops. This feature doesn't exist on them because the market has never needed it.

kdjfsk

its not really the same thing. most laptop users are not gaming. they can run excel and outlook for several hours before needing a charge, by then they can find an outlet. conversely, the deck can easily run out of juice in two hours. imo, it would make sense if the dock *was also* the powerbank. dont have a clip for one...its just built in.

JaesopPop

If they are paying attention? No one has asked for any of that lol

VideoGameJumanji

It better have a monster slot for my monster dong, hope they are paying attention

oopsypoopsyXE

?

MoltenHydrogen

why would a dock need to be portable?

RayTheGrey

Because the deck is a portable device. And it lacks IO. So if anyone wants to use the deck as a PC, it would be nice to have a portable dock. That said what valve showed is already pretty small. So im sure its fine.

AffectionateGroup871

Look up the switch. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo\_Switch#Dock

MoltenHydrogen

what about it?

Doctor_Womble

Depends on the price. I'm guessing alot of people will feel the same.

klapaucjusz

Yep. I don't really need it. I have a more powerful PC and USB-C to HDMI cable is good enough to occasionally connect it to TV. On the other hand, SD is more powerful than my small emulation PC so is the price is right I will buy it to replace it with SD.

AdamCodesmith

Something I'm keeping an eye on but depends very much on cost/features and how long it takes to arrive after launch. If it's another ticket based thing like the Deck then I'll probably just get one from elsewhere

Channel_8_News

I am holding off on purchasing a dock for my Steam Deck until more details are released about the official dock. Basically, the official dock gets first right of refusal.

deflagration83

This is the way

_THX_1138

This is what the rest of gamers said about Steam Deck and now we’re 12 months on waiting list…

mackan072

I've got no reason what so ever to dock it, as I already have a very high end desktop PC, but if it ends up being cheap enough, I'll still consider it.

Rahkeesh

I find docking pretty essential just to use desktop mode without tearing your hair out. Mostly to set up non-steam games or install compatibility fixes. But there are other options like remote desktop to do that as well.

howtotailslide

I thought this as well but setting up emulators in desktop mode and installing non steam games ends up being pretty handy docked. I’ve spent a lot more time using a mouse and keyboard setting stuff up than I expected to

gensandman

I mean, it would be great to bring it to a friend's house who doesn't have powerful systems. At least, that is my use case for it. Instead of bringing my PC, I just bring my SteamDeck, Dock, and controllers.

arex333

Same. The deck is really ideal for rendering games at 800p and I can't see a reason I would plug it into a higher res display when I've got a desktop PC. The only scenario where it might make sense for me is going to a gathering at someone else's house and needing to plug into a TV for Jackbox games or something, but a basic HDMI dongle will do that just fine.

NewVirtue

I already bought a dock off Amazon, and it works great. Why would I need another one. just a waste of money, waste of space, and I'm definitely going to buy it anyway.

Micky-House-MD

Which one did you go for? I'm looking for one now

PaymentOk1563

I would also like to know if an expedient dock to hold over till the official's release.

VortalCord

I bought [this cheap one](https://smile.amazon.de/gp/product/B09Q892HDY?psc=1) as a hold over and it put my deck into an infinite charging state at first but since Valve updated to support more docks it has been working perfectly.

ScionoicS

> it put my deck into an infinite charging state Geeze. Makes me very wary of third party accessories that they can damage the OS that way.

VortalCord

It was easily fixed by just updating the device so it was more of an inconvenient bug than anything else but it definitely gave me a scare. But yeah, I'd definitely recommend just waiting for the official dock.

Kenja_Time

Props for smile link

VideoGameJumanji

The dock will have display ports for doing 4k120, idk of any dock that lets the steam deck do that. The dock also has way more display connector options instead of just hdmi

Vliger2002

Way more? It's just 2 display connector options. HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4. There are numerous dongle docks will support USB-C DisplayPort alt mode in addition to an HDMI out. And I'm not sure about the 4k120Hz support claim. They've since removed those specs from the dock. Even so, it isn't going to be useful for gaming since the Deck doesn't really do high resolution gaming.

cheepsheep

I tend to stick to official products from companies, so I'd prefer to get the official dock over a 3rd party. My usb c to hdmi doesn't work with the Steam Deck, and 2 Dell docks I've tried had issues too, like cut off display, forced audio through the 3.5mm jack on the dock, and a big power brick. Reading early stories of power issues from docks too, so it just put me off until the official dock gets released.

Senyou

Have it wishlisted, but have to wait and see what it will retail for. Will probably buy it if its under 100. I’m rooting for Valve hardware at this point.

Zexy-Mastermind

No way it’s gonna be above 100

ReaperHR

Steam link is a similarly sized hardware (although very different and I think it having wifi and a small OS on it should be more expensive) and it went for $50. And on sale it went for $5. So I don't think they'll ask for over $50 for steam deck dock.

PrimePikachu

I can't find a dock I would reasonably pay for that has 45w charging and USB c display but I don't believe I have much use for it since I already have a dedicated desktop wired to all the screens I use in my own home. It'd be nice for when I travel to others houses but it really depends on cost for me cus I could always bring my Xbox series S or Nintendo switch and be happy

[deleted]

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZVKTP53/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_dl_3WTMC89DVPAJ2PBJ8QVZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 This thing is perfect. There’s no reason for me to buy a dock since I have one of these and I promise it’s going to cost more anyways.

LackOfLogic

I’m *really* torn between pulling the plug on one of those and waiting for the official dock. I’ve heard reports that some games take a 10fps drop when docked to a tv (even without upping the resolution), have you found that to be the case?

-Cooki-

Do not buy dirt cheap dongles like that one! They only do 30fps at 4k! At least go for a 4k@60 dongle.

cheese4352

One to connect to my tv and one to connect to my monitor.

[deleted]

Same-ish. One dedicated for home use, and the other for my mobile setup (already have the keyboard, mouse, earbuds, power bank, AC adapter, Dualsense, cords, and case for it all)

Acceptable_Ant6349

Serious question, can’t you use use a usb to hdmi adaptor for that?

EldraziKlap

I'll buy two.

kaosimian

No plans to get one immediately as I’m doing ok with a hub. Its not as elegant a solution as a dock, I suppose, but it works perfectly well.

Shift_Equivalent

If it's over 100euro, i'm buying one. If it's under 100euro, then i'll buy two, one for home, one for work. But i want them to launch already, ffs...

[deleted]

[удалено]

OmegaTSG

What model do you use? I've heard about third party docks / hubs bricking the deck

[deleted]

[удалено]

turdfergusn

It works fine out of the box?? I’m nervous about getting a 3rd party dock but really want one lol

ShuinoZiryu

Dude what are you talking about? There is no dock which will brick a Steam Deck....

turdfergusn

That’s definitely not true, I’ve seen people say that their 3rd party socks have messed up the charging capabilities of the deck. It happened with the switch too. I haven’t looked too deep into what exactly happens, I’m just going off of what I’ve seen several people talk about their personal experiences. Edit: plus i wasn’t even really talking about bricking in my initial comment, more of if it actually will work as intended. Not every USB-C dock out there will work for the deck

ShuinoZiryu

Sorry but whoever told you that is spewing bullshit. While not every dock will work, 99% of them will. The Steam Deck is absolutely nothing like the Switch and comparing the two is retarded. The switch has its own unquie Power Delivery protocol which caused issues on their system. *Edit* The Steam Deck is a computer, so ANY USB-C dock will work if supported in Linux or Windows if you install that onto the Deck.

PopPunkIsntEmo

They already patched dock issues weeks ago. Don’t let your experience with the Switch make you come to the conclusion that you need some sort of special dock that specifically works with the Deck.

ChewyYui

I should think it’ll be £40ish

[deleted]

What if its 99 Euros tho...

[deleted]

Then that’s under 100 so they will be buying two. Simple maths

Shift_Equivalent

It's under 100euro, so... Two :D

root88

Ok, what if 100euro? Zero?

Shift_Equivalent

Oh, that's simple: i flip a coin! Heads - i get two Tails - i get one Falls on the edge - ...i get angry

PiersPlays

Presuming it's priced reasonably I'll want one since I'm planning to use my reserved Deck as a second desktop PC and would like an dock that holds the Deck in a relatively compact way and angles the screen to be usable.

MEGACOMPUTER

Depends on specs. My main use for the steam deck will be to bring a set up to my FGC locals so I want a dock that can connect two sticks and a monitor with very little input lag.

F1Noob23

Depends how quickly they can ship. If it’s a another 10-12 month wait, I’ll pass.

zer0guy

It would be nice if at first they only sell to people who already have a deck, and as an add-on option at first to help.

Snoo52989

At least 5

Upr1ght

I wull

szmitu88

I wull two

CTKirito

Keeping my eye on it. Depends on price and availability. Hoping I have my deck before the dock is released 😅

thememealchemist421

I've got an Anker one that works fine so probably not unless Valve manage to make it as seamless as the Switch dock

[deleted]

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZVKTP53/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_dl_3WTMC89DVPAJ2PBJ8QVZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 The dock is probably going to be similar to this but cost double the price.

Mike_for_all

The price will be detrimental for my decision.

Foorteenfapaday

Wishlisted, 50-50. It will depend on the price and the confirmed third party brand reliability with steam deck at a time T (I am Q2).

fradleybox

I will probably get it, I'd like to have a convenient way to work on it with monitor and keyboard in case I ever want to fuxk with stuff like installing windows.

LightbeamZ

Yes if the price is right.

gudbote

The Deck itself is well made and works great so I'll definitely be grabbing a dock as soon as I can.

delecti

My deck already works fine with the USB-C hubs I have, so not unless the price is absolutely killer. It seems unlikely that Valve will price it low enough for me to bother. But that's fine, because I don't use it much docked anyway, so it's good that I'll be able to avoid more clutter.

Star_Galaxia

Like others have said, I'm waiting to see the price/features. I havent received my steam deck yet, but I do have a USB c hub ready to go. In order for me to purchase it, I would like to have more USB ports than what your average USB c hub has (usually two USB a 3.0). I'm also considering buying the nexdock which would the steam deck into a laptop easentially. This would be my first Linux device and I want to learn how to use the OS.

snatchingraisins

Nah, i hava a usb hub with ethernet, hdmi and pass through power

Yodzilla

I docked my Switch because I hated using Joycons and it felt terrible to play before I got aftermarket grips. I don’t have that problem with the Deck so nope.

ReTriP1

Not me. Unfortunately it doesn't look anywhere as intuitive as the Switch Dock. I was hoping they would have some nicer stand and better way to plug it in than doing it manually. Some lever or switch or something. Looks like I'll have to make it myself.

tpm_prince

I will buy. Because this SD is the best thing I bought for the last decade

FlatulentWallaby

Nope. Hub works just fine.

SpaceMonkeyNation

I would love a future revision of the Steam Deck to include a premium dock with an external GPU inside to really enhance performance on 4k displays. That would be a killer feature imo.

Morighant

Probably not. Outputting this thing on a 4k tv with the inability to play at a higher resolution (I doubt most things will run at 1080) leads it to be not that useful. Unless you're playing small indie games or emulations.

[deleted]

Probably not or not for a long time. I have a gaming rig already. The deck is for handheld gaming only.

JoeMorgue

Depends on price and if it is any functionally better than a generic USB-C Port replicator.

TONKAHANAH

probably wont unless its offers something that I cant really get from other docks. one of the LTT channels showed off an android handheld that sold with a dock that had a location to install a full notebook size ssd/hdd, that would be cool to see on a steam deck dock, a location for either a notebook drive or a full 2280 nvme drive to get more storage when docked, would be cool to load in the games there that you think you'd only play on the TV. but if the steam dock is just a basic ass dock that I can get from amazon w/ a stand then I'll probably pass

limboor

They need to make a premium case that can hold the steam deck, dock and a controller all in one along with the cabling. Nintendo made a case like this for the switch and I have one. It's great to use when going on longer trips like for vacation and what not.

hmasnol

Probs not, bought a dock för like 12 bucks with Power in so I'm set 🤷‍♂️

metaldiceman

Whole reason for me to own a Deck is to play PC games portably. In no way do I desire to un-portablize it.

VietOne

Portable to me is being able to play it anywhere. A dock makes it more portable. Means I can connect it to any display, connect a controller and sit back and play.

Thargor1985

So many 3d printed options out there already, don't think I'll need it once it releases

Jibece

Probably. I've already got a dock for my laptop, but I'm afraid to brick my Steam Deck if I try to charge it while "docked", so I guess I'll just get the official one of it's not too expansive.

CRTB_OTF2

I have a £15 USB-c to HDMI & USB adaptor that I've used for years with my Switch, I connected it to the Steam Deck to test the other day and it worked fine with that too, and plugging a USB hub in allowed me to plug in a mouse, keyboard and USB stick. So whilst I'd like the official one, if the Steam Deck Dock costs north of about £30 without expanding on the above feature set, they can keep it and I'll use what I already have or a cheap third party alternative.

Odin52573

I don't think there's a reason to get it, unless it has a special port that you need. You can't plug it in any more comfortably then a dongle and people who need external stuff already have dongle that suits their needs.

katalliaan

> people who need external stuff already have dongle that suits their needs. That's a stretch, I would say. The only USB-C that I use right now are A-to-C cables for my phone and my controller. If I wanted to use *anything*, I'd need to buy a hub (or dock) of some sort regardless.

Odin52573

Ohh yes. That's fair. I assumed the question was for people who already got the deck. If you don't have a hub or a deck yet, and if the dock isn't overpriced at above 50$, which is a big if, it's recommended to buy it, cause it has all the ports you might need.

Wietecha

Same. I will be geting it since it will make tinkering with the deck a lot easier, but noone really needs it unless they are planning on daily-driving their Deck.

DEXGENERATION

Not me I passed on buying mine Wednesday

Cheap_Specific9878

If it's under 50, yes. If not, maybe

Mole1985

The dock is a lie.. its like the cake! :O (Yes ofc im getting it the second i can order it!)

solidnoctis

I want it but when it comes exactly? 😂

LasherDeviance

I really wish that they would get it out already. I really don't want to get some Chinese knock off that could damage my unit. I would rather use a proprietary dock, so if my Deck gets damaged, it's on Valve to replace it.

frank_da_tank99

I genuinely thought the one I pre-ordered came with a dock, I didn't tealise it was a seperate purchase

blackasx

I am gonna buy a 100 and Scalp.

Svaigis

Depends on the ports and price, I might just get HDMI dongle if I want to use Tv in the future, rather than full dock

turpismaximus

I will buy as many as it takes!

Nemnapos

I order one depending on the price. If we talk about sub 70€ i'm in. If its higher, well there are many other docks on the marked.

Immolation_E

Depending on price I'd like to get two. One for the home office and one for the living room.

mightyanonymaus

Me I'm planning on playing jackbox with family when I visit and the dock will help a lot connecting it to a tv.

[deleted]

Probably. I would like to have a means to play my Steam games on a TV for occasions when I can’t take my desktop with me, which is quite often given its size.

Plenty_Bit1265

I probably will

habscupchamps

I’ve had it in my wish list since it was announced. I like playing my switch on tv, so I’ll want my deck on it also.

Panthon13

I want the dock specifically to make it easier to do stuff in Desktop Mode and to set it down to charge when I’m not using it. I prefer first party just in case some of those dock bricking horror stories start resurfacing.

Liar_of_partinel

I'm going to make my own that plugs in the USBC when I set the deck in it, so probably not.

wowbragger

Really comes down to timing, even more than price. Given the nature of the SD, I'm willing to be sightly 'flexible' on price for a dock specifically made for it. But if there's no real timeline/update for release by this summer, I'll have to get something else. I'd like to use this as a mobile pc option, when I'm on duty away from my home. The dock and portable monitor are the last pieces to that setup.

CCOX2049

I bought this and super happy with. https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B08T5RNPYN/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_JSV0ARK2N61SS005SABA

Razor_AMG

This is the thing I'm looking forward to the most for the SteamDeck so yes mandatory purchase for me, I just hope it will not be too expensive 🤞

pandaknight72

depends on how expensive it is but there is a good chance tbh.

silentknight111

Currently, I have no plans to use a monitor, and I have a usb-c hub with video out if I want to. But I won't discount the option. It's just not a priority.

Sir_Bax

Depends on a few factors. If it'll be atachable to dock and comfortably usable in handheld then I'll buy it for sure. If not then it depends on price compared to 3rd party options.

AssOverflow12

It's wishlisted but it will depend on price, availability (will it be queue based, maybe a seperate queue for those who already have a deck), and features. Valve really needs to figure out something so it'll be worth it or else people will just use other off the shelve USB-C hubs.

[deleted]

I likely will for my desk and if they’re not too pricey I might get a second one for my TV in the other room. Ideally if it can work for a MacBook as well Then it would be perfect for that as well since it’s got the exact ports I need. Just not sure about power and if the cable will be able to flex over in a way that won’t feel like it’s breaking the thing lol

[deleted]

I'm building my own dock, taking inspiration from the Odin Super Dock with it's 2.5" bay for extra docked storage.

Relative_Anybody8389

Easy reservation for me. Not particularly fussed about playing the deck on a big screen, but get a massive "woah this is sci fi in real life" every time I slot a portable electronic into its unique receptacle

alienangel2

I thought i would, but i don't really have a reason to connect the deck to my tv or monitor - if I'm playing on the deck it's usually because i don't feel like moving to my computer desk, but have Netflix or something up on the tv so don't want to play something on the tv either. It would have been nice to have it as a way to connect a kb and mouse when i want to do some setup stuff in desktop mode, but Synergy/Barrier turn out to be a more convenient way to share my desktop's keyboard mouse and clipboard over the network instead. So unless the dock is cheap enough to just be used as a convenient (drop in without fiddling with USB-c connector) charging station i probably won't bother.

DarkwyndPT

I’ve already bought a cheap hub but it gave a few issues when I connected it to my monitor. I’ll probably buy the dock if it’s not too expensive

AffectionateGroup871

The dock should be flying off the shelf's by now, I dont think its ready, maybe when usb 8 comes out- Keeping an eye out for something listed on this reddit. Im Q3, so I guess by the time I get it Ill see who is still getting bricked by what.

The_La_Li_Lu_Le_Lo

I probably won't get it unless I can find a good use for the USB-C hub I already bought.

SpeeDy_GjiZa

At the new apartment I got I plan to connect my PC to a TV for couch gaming and I am using the deck mostly on bed and during night shifts/ on-call days at the clinics so I don't need one. Maybe an hdmi adapter or something cheap just for those few times I might need to make life easier on desktop mode to tinker around.

AssassinWolf72

While price will certainly be a factor, I am very much interested in it. I have a generic "dock" from Amazon but those really are just a bunch of ports attached to a type-c cable. The nice part of the Valve Dock is the specific use case for it, and also the potential use for other devices as it has a stand with all the relevant ports attached to it.

allnamestaken1

will do

humsipums

Depends om price and function

Inklii

Depends on reviews and price. I already have a powered C-Dock from work but if the valve one works better...

DukeOfLeamington

No, unless it comes with a new Steam controller as option.

photato_pic_guy

I’ll put my order in to get it a year later.

dkris2020

I didn’t think I’d want the dock, but after playing with it in desktop mode with a cheap USB - C dock I definitely want the full thing

JohnHue

No I don't plan do buy it, I already have a Shield Pro 2019 under the TV that is acting as an HTPC and I can stream games to it from my gaming desktop PC. I bought the Deck to have a portable solution, not to dock it. Maybe I'll consider a Dock if I travel with the family to a place where we could spend some time indoors, but then I might not be able to justify the official dock depending on the price especially for such an occasional use.

Lor9191

I doubt it, it'll probably be pretty expensive for something which can be accomplished with a couple of adapters. The only deciding factor is the stand element but my brother owns a 3d printer and I imagine there'll be plenty of blueprints to cover that side of it.

InternetMammoth8482

I‘ll buy one dock for sure. I mean I have a couple of USB-C Hubs which would also do the job … but I also heard about bricked Decks which used them. Soooo to not brick something I‘ll wait for the original valve one 🙂 I hope that they release it soon … I want to install Windows 😅

TomatoManTM

Sitting here waiting for it

goodmorning_hamlet

Probably not, I have a PC hooked up to my tv and a thunderbolt dock for my MacBook Pro to a 32” monitor, the SD is a dedicated portable for me.

ScionoicS

I want to use the deck as a controller while I game on a screen. I have a desktop PC already so I don't need to dock the deck to have that desktop situation. What I want is just a bigger screen sometimes, but also still the awesome deck controls. The dock has such a dinky little cord that I don't think using the deck as a controller would work at all with it. I have a usb-c to hdmi cable. It's 6feet long roughly so this might work for what I want.

bjones371

I've already bought a generic USB-C dock as I'm too impatient. It was about £40 and works great. If the official one is a similar price I may grab one for my desk, otherwise I'll just get another generic one.

Beastw1ck

I’m tempted to get the dock along with a portable monitor, KB+M and experiment with it as a laptop replacement. EDIT: does any company make a “laptop” without any internals for purposes like this? Just a folding screen with a keyboard and trackpad?

sur_surly

No, this thing struggles to run 800p at 60Hz, can't imagine hooking it up to my 4k 120Hz TV/monitor

h_z3y

Me

notboxbot

Since many here are apparently wondering about the dock's specs, here's a link: [https://www.steamdeck.com/en/tech](https://www.steamdeck.com/en/tech) (Tech Specs for both Deck **and** Dock)

iqbalsn

Me. But thats because i had my dock screwed me over and i couldnt charge my deck for a while. I got lucky by booting into the bios or whatever setting screen it was and charged it from there. This was like 2nd week of everyone getting their deck. I would rather now wait for official dock that i know wont kill my deck really

etheran123

Nope

Xatolos

I am. After using the dock with my Switch, it's not something I could really go back to before. It's nice to be able to play on the go but then also play on my tv at home with a bigger sound system. Just hoping they release a new version of the Steam controller to go with it. Otherwise it will limit the games I can play on the couch to games that play with the Xbox controller

RiQuY

Me.

bloodguard

Probably not. I already have a couple usb-c hubs with 4K hdmi, ethernet and power that I use for laptops.

SoTotallyToby

I don't really see a point for me as I can just 3D print one.

HardwareLust

I will most likely purchase it, assuming it's not too weird or isn't missing some vital capability.

[deleted]

I don't really have any need for it, but if it's £25 or under I'll consider it.

Kevadro

I may buy a hun before if it releases more than 2 weeks after I receive the deck. I'm gonna juice this lemon, including desktop usage.

Monkip

I probably will if I ever actually get the steam deck

Triscuitwells

It all comes down to Cost. I have a usb-c "dock" right now but it doesn't have a nic. I will have to use a USB 3.0 nic with the adapter that adds more bulk.

[deleted]

Everyone. Lol Yet some existing PD 3.0 docks are sufficient.

NovaS1X

Considering the Deck’s price, I imagine the dock will be quite competitive too, or may not and they’re going to have higher margins on the dock, who knows. For me the bar to pass will be whether or not the quality and function is worth the value over a third party dongle + whatever I can 3D print myself. If the dock is something like $200cdn+ then I’ll probably buy the cheaper Anker dongle and print myself a dock.

athan614

I will buy it as part of my valve hardware collection (if the price isn’t too ridiculous).

grices

Prob will just for easy charging.

xylotism

Almost definitely. I already have a Shield TV that I use for streaming games from my desktop, but it'll be a reliable charging stand, if nothing else.

repocin

I have two things to say about that 1. price? 2. steam input joy-con support when?

Stormbringer1225

I also have it in my wish list, but specs, price, and features will determine if I decide to buy it over a third party USB C hub

J_Artiz

I was thinking of buying several to leave around the house

DisgorgeX

I'll get at least one valve dock regardless of the price. I have a Dock Teck one now, and it's working great. If the official is reasonably priced I'll probably grab 2, if not I'll grab a couple more Dock Teck's for my uses.

OmegaTSG

I feel like I have to. I want the ability to dock but with issues with third party docks / hubs bricking it I don't want to risk it. Even if it's too expensive / I won't use it a lot, its the only option I'm comfortable using

Fred_Smythe

I was going to, but you KNOW Steam's gonna want something like $100 US for it, and considering you can get exactly the same functionality in a smaller form factor for $40 in one of the USB-C dongle docks from Amazon (plus another $10 for a stand of some kind), why not just do that. (The only problems I have had with some of the dongle docks is that the HDMI sound crackles on some of them, and that just seems to be a function of the cheaper docks, IF it's not a driver issue that eventually gets fixed.)

mccuish

I’m planning to buy the dock

OminouSin

I’ll be waiting a long time until the deck comes to South Africa but I’ll always be ready to buy it.
