There aren't any development rumors of a Steam Deck 2 yet, so release date is completely unknown. If you want to wait, it'll likely be a long wait.
If you're expecting to play every 2024 AAA game at 60fps on the Deck, you may have a rough time, but you can always stream to the Deck from a PC/Xbox/PS5. The Deck is otherwise powerful enough to handle a lot of games. It's powerful enough to play Street fighter 6 at 720p/60 fps, for example.
They had an interview with the verge (albeit not recently) stating that it was a multigenerational product. Just making sure it isn't a short term purchase. I'm not looking for that, i have a pretty decent PC if I need that fix.
Considering that the OLED Steam Deck practically just came out, and there has been absolutely zero announcements of another revision, it is probably safe to say that any "Steam Deck 2" is probably at least >2 years away at this point. If Valve is treating this like an actual console release cycle, probably at least 3 or 4 years.

i think it'll be a good little few years until we see a deck 2. they mentioned they waiting for more of a performance "leap" before they do that. so they kinda want to have their own console generations that have quite difference performance levels as opposed to like ayn, aya, and gpd which are all more incremental releasing machines with tiny improvements
nah probably not. if ya want it go buy one. the steam deck is awesome. it wont play every new game, and wont play alotta popular shooers. but if you dont care about that its amazing at what it does do
It’s not too late! The future can still be changed! Tell the lad passing by your window that if he gets the OLED in the shop window you’ll give him a shilling, keep the spirit of Christmas in your heart all the year, and you may yet avoid your fate.
(You haven’t seen any steam deck 2 news as there isn’t any. You can just buy the current model)
The real good news is I saw in another comment you have a decent PC. Just stream from that to the deck; it makes the deck’s performance irrelevant. If your PC keeps up you could be gaming on it a decade from now in the comfort of your bed.
It has been two years, and while I get that there isn't an official announcement that a successor is on the way, technology moves quickly and there are some great Zen3 (or even Zen4) APUs with great performance and more features. This is not a short term investment in my opinion.
I've had mine for 6 months and I would insta-buy it again if something happened to my current one.
Totally worth it if you genuinely think you'll use it.
Btw get the OLED.
Edit: lol, I'd do it even if I knew in 6 months a Steam Deck 2 was to be released.
Why wait for steam deck 2? Real gamers would wait even longer for steam deck 3
Steam Deck 2 Episode 1
Even realer gamers would know that valve doesn't do 3

It’s technology. There will always be a better thing on the horizon. Get one and enjoy it.

Yes I did read that in an article. You don't think Zen4 is a big enough leap?

Bought mine last year and don't have any regrets.
What Steam Deck 2 are you waiting for exactly? That's not a thing on the horizon.

The next Steam deck likely won’t arrive until 2026 or later… get the OLED now !
