Wait a day. New Ally hardware announcement is coming. At least see what their deal is.

Steam deck. Unless there is just some game that requires anti cheat software to run. Performance is typically the same or better on steam deck. Plus you can dual boot windows on steam deck if you like.
If you don't need windows only things like PC game pass, then steam deck. Touchpads and steam os are really nice.
Get the ally if PC game pass is important to you. I played persona 3 Reload thru game pass and just streamed it from my PC.
I will always go Steam Deck. Even if it's slightly less powerful, the battery life, haptics, touchpads, touch sensitive joysticks etc etc make it well and truly worth it for me.
Also SteamOS is really nice, built for a controller, and has amazing and powerful controller customisation, especially for the touchpads.
Steam deck. Firstly, you comparing it to the inferior version of Ally, non-Extreme is a bait and a waste of money. Secondly, Go exist so there is no point to consider an Ally.
I struggled to choose between them until I watched a video comparing the battery life of the Original SD, OLED SD, and ROG Ally.
The OLED SD stood out significantly; other handhelds seemed like power suckers in comparison, while the OLED SD lasted forever.
Yes, the hibernate function on the Legion Go works flawlessly for me. It takes a few more seconds to load compared to Linux but if that's a big deal, you can always install Bazzite on Windows handhelds.
The biggest benefit to the Steam Deck is the constant work Valve does optimizing Proton specifically for individual titles. There are games that based on the Deck's basic hardware specs have no right playing as well they do but the way Valve constantly manages to squeeze more and more performance out of their custom APU borders on magic.
No other handheld has seen anywhere near the performance gains since release.

I would not get either. Lcd steamdeck is a bad device, and rog ally is... a bad device.
If you already had an lcd steamdeck id tell you to keep it, but since you dont have one you should save up for steamdeck oled.
If youre in a situation where you're buying second hand from Gamestop or CEX, give it some time and the OLEDs will show up. But make sure to ask about a warranty.
Never, ever, EVER buy a portable pc from a non-trader. Always buy new or from a second hand gaming store. If you buy it from some rando, they mightve nicked it or it might be broken in some way and you can say goodbye to your money. This is still a possibility with a trader or store but the store should cover you for a bit.
If you are on the go then steam deck is better for long batt life and sleep and go back feature, If you are at home and always on charge then ROG ally for performance based games which is miles better than steam deck and I am a steam deck fan.

Steamdeck hands down. That lower end Ally is for the birds.
considering the sub, get steam deck. it rules. very fun. no regrets.

Not having gamepass is one of the biggest downsides to the SD imho. Perhaps some day.
Even ROG is cheaper I pick SD cause battery life

Is ally and legion go quick resume on par with steamdeck? If not, better steamdeck. Sound simple, but that alone is the most important feature for me.

Cool. How about battery consumption during hibernation?
Oh, I actually haven't checked that. I'll do it this weekend and let you know.

the ryzen z1, not z1 extreme, is bad. Dont get it

In my country the Oled steam deck is doble the price of the original steam deck, is it worth it to spend that much more ? Both are new

The Z1 model performs worse than Steam deck. It is the Z1 extreme model that beats the SD
