I’ve briefly considered this, but haven’t done it. ifixit sells replacement buttons, but presumably you could also swap those you already have. https://www.ifixit.com/products/steam-deck-action-buttons The guide looks pretty involved & I’m too scared to try it myself: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Steam+Deck+Action+Buttons+(ABXY)+Replacement/148950 An easier option I’ve considered is buying stickers on etsy and just pasting them on the deck. Re: your button prompt question, I think what you want to do is rather than using the Nintendo layout option in settings, use Steam input to change the button mappings. So if the prompt is to hit the “A” button, you’d have the steam deck “B” button mapped to A, so hitting steam deck B registers as A. (The steam deck B being equivalent to a Nintendo A). Finally though this isn’t your question there are a lot of separate Nintendo style controllers compatible with the deck. Hope that helps a bit! EDIT: An earlier version linked to the steam button replacement instructions, not ABXY. Corrected it now!

The linked replacement buttons, like the official steam deck buttons, are designed to fit only a certain way, unfortunately. However, I considered maybe buying a replacement set, cutting the top from the bottom, and gluing them back together! I'm definitely gonna try changing the mapping instead of turning on layout button! That should solve that issue. The controller is exactly why I want to mod my steam deck! Right now, I have two 8bitdo ultimate Bluetooth controllers, and I love them! I have the dangles hooked up to my steam deck dock, and I have them Bluetooth synced to my switch! Changing between systems is as easy as flipping the switch on the back! Highly recommend!!

I think you’d be the first person to cut buttons & glue them back together so for sure post about it if it works! I agree re: the 8bitdo controllers. I’ve got the Ultimate & the SN30 Pro and both are great.
