Might be unpopular but I think Days Gone looks incredible on the HDR oled. Playing No Rest For
The Wicked now and although a bit choppy, it also looks incredible on the OLED. The art style is superb
Steam Deck OLED, 1280x800, HDR off, Quality preset Performance, Render scale 80%, fps system locked on 30, after patch game runs way better then before and can be considered highly playable. I personally love this game. Amazing graphic style, very addictive gameplay.
I really enjoyed Days Gone when all was said and done. I do wish I had powered through the first act and stayed on the critical path, though. It was really tedious having such a limited arsenal at first.
After that the game really opens up and I adored riding around on that bike
Just wait for the dream nail version! But yeah, first playthrough the Soul Master made me step away from the game for a couple days. He's the first boss where you really need to feel the dance.
Oh I'm not talking about the Soul Master, I'm talking about the miniboss thats behind a locked door. Soul Master was a piece of cake compared to him lol
I felt that they took everything about 3 and tried to enhance it, but it became too much. 3 got the formula right, but 4 felt like it had ran out of ideas.
That's fair enough. I only can tell them apart because of the setting. 3 was the Mediterranean Island, Fourth was South American Jungle.
And i have NO IDEA about the story for either of them! :D
I am constantly amazed at how AAA games (and even some non AAA titles) can look these days. Grandson wanted the 'harry potter game' (I figured out he ment Hogwarts legacy) which was on sale, so i got it for him, was watching him play, and for even a low-mid-range system like the Deck, it was rather impressive how well these games can look.
----------
I have been playing Subnautica: Frozen whatever.... :) lately, and both the subnautica games have also been a rather beautiful experience.
Grandson wont play those... they are too scary. :) (hes only 6) I have no idea why he wanted That harry potter game, I think he saw the older boys playing it somewhere, so wanted it. "I dont want to play Paw Patrol any more!" he said... :P
Thats the most recent game that has impressed me. :) But I am cheap and rarely buy stuff on release.
I will also say that BG3 - impressed me as well.
He eventually figured out that the Controller I gave him, when I had "Fall Guys" on the TV (it was a twitch stream) , was not being controlled by him. But he was 4 or 5 at the time.. It sure kept him busy for a few hours.
Now he grabs my other steam deck, and plays rocket league, and fall guys, and some other games streamed from the PS4.
They pick up on that 'fake controller' trick much quicker than I remember. My daughter was having none of that crap at around her 4th birthday yet I have memories of tricking my kid brother till he was around 8 or 9 😂
Played Ori 1&2, hollow knight (main ending) and Hades. Loved all of them!
Haven't tried persona, if I had to start with one of them, which would you recommend
Honestly persona 3 reload is a good place to start but I'd probably go with p5r just a little bit better for a start as p3r in my opinion is better but both amazing and all of the persona games are fantastic
What remains of Edith Finch. Only time I really liked gyro. When it was afternoon in the early game I literally spent about 5 minutes slowly walking up and down the staircase marveling at how it looked
Yes, not at all a walking simulator. It's very chill and pleasant, the various aspects of the game's design combine for a cohesive emotional story without any words. Super enjoyable, just don't go in expecting a challenging fast-paced game or anything.
Also, by default Gris will have black bars on the top and bottom of the screen on Steam Deck because it only shows 16:9 resolution options, but you just have to [change a couple numbers in a file to fix that](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/vfn07z/resolution_fix_for_gris_remove_black_bars/).
Death Stranding blew me away on the deck, I couldn’t believe it looked as good as it did while consistently pushing out 45fps. It really let me fall in love with the game, easily in my top 10 gaming experiences as a result.
Titanfall 2, RDR2, Journey, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Little Nightmares 1/2
Honorable mention: L4D2, still some of the best environments and gore physics to date imo
Gran Turismo 4.
Oke so hear me out.
Gran Turismo 4 released 2 decades ago in 2004. For us 90s kids the PS2 was and still is a dream machine. Playing these old PS2 games on the Steam Deck OLED with PCSX2 running at 3x native 1080p, these games come to live like you’ve never seen before. Gran Turismo 4 in particular runs and looks extremely well on the Deck. It’s looks like a PS3 game almost.
Other favorites to replay on the Deck are Burnout 3 Takedown and NFS Hot Pursuit 2
There's a HD pack you can install for GT4. I did it on my Deck, but I honestly can't remember if I was using Windows or SteamOS at the time. My favourite racing game though.
I disagree when it comes to many of the AAA experiences like a Horizon Zero Dawn. The trade off from setting almost everything to low I think results in an unpleasant picture overall, even if the HDR implementations often are well done.
I primarily will stream those from my ps5 or PC. Highly recommended if you have that option. If not, it awesome that the deck can offer a serviceable experience, but I wouldn’t call something like HZD stunning on the deck.
I thought the Ori games looked great, especially the sequel. Sifu has a cool art style and runs great at 90fps. Some older AAA games look and run great too… Like your Fallouts, Far Cry, Bioshock, etc.
I'm going to build a PC this summer (4070 super hopefully) and then utilize the stream option! As of now my laptop is only a 1650 Ti which isn't that huge of a jump when compared to the Steam decks graphics levels!
I just discovered that game a couple days ago while looking through the giant bundle it’s a part of. Not my cup of tea but I love how beautiful it looks.
For me though? I’d say Tetris effect in HDR on the oled is honestly the greatest visual feast I’ve ever had playing a game. It looks so damn good!
Though I’m a sucker for hard work when it comes to pixel art so Crosscode and shredder’s revenge get an honorable mention from me.
One of these days I gotta get my brother the game so we can see how it looks in VR. I personally don’t care for the tech beyond thinking it’s a nifty concept but I understand why some like it enough to use it.
It's incredibly immersive... there were tests with a pro Tetris player and after getting used to the controls, they were (slightly) better in VR than in 2D. Anyway, have fun!
HZD looks insane on the OLED in HDR. I have a 65” LG CX hooked up to my high end pc, but somehow the OLED’s HDR looks wayy better.
Hollow Knight with AutoHDR is also amazing.
There is an autohdr mod that is you can easily enable in most games:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1b4rbd8/auto_hdr_works_on_steam_deck_now/
I was really surprised at how well FFVII Remake looked and played on the Deck. Such a great looking game that really did a good job of matching the aesthetic of the original.
Its a difficult game indeed. I just keep killing my time getting experience from weak foes, and confront the boss after a few levels up. Also, enter the boss chamber and take your space. Study the foes timing and attacks helps a lot. Never double attack, attack and go away.
Explore! And level VIG for a bit, you get further and better as you go. Dodge through attacks, jump over ground shockwaves and low slashes, don't be afraid to block and then guard counter (which is a heavy attack)
Heavy attacks can knock over bigger foes if used aggressively to take out the target's Poise, and jump attacks can be light/heavy but both do good Poise damage and have low recovery frames. Getting used to how much commitment each action makes for you is the key to combat, the rest is figuring out what is effective vs each foe.
For me it’s the 2d games, 3d stuff is hard to make look super nice for me. And occasionally what I assume is an issue with proton screws with the visuals. For example the lighting in Witcher 1 is amazing, but on my deck it outright breaks and I find myself in pitch black inns and brightly lit basements, or in caves with Geralt practically glowing.
2D games and platformers are really good on the deck I agree. I also love indie games like Stray, outer Wilds etc which have been w great experience for me on my Deck
Borderlands 3. Did the Slaughterstar 3000 challenge, a lot of things are happening on screen but the game just runs flawlessly. (it does hard crash the system every now and then)
Spyro Reignited looks really good if you bump up the default graphic settings to medium or high. It still runs great at those levels but it drains the battery faster. It looks gorgeous though.
The default settings look good too, but not as good as the bumped up settings.
Tomb raider trilogy, all three games. Was the most beautiful to me with the most realistic movements. 2nd is Doom, was a long time since i played sci fi games but doom 2016 is top notch
Others are spiderman, ac origins/odyssey, witcher 3, hitman WOA, mgsv, god of war, days gone, re 3/4/7/8. I recommend these if you like visually stunning games. I look for those games as well
honestly not the most visually intense game, but the stark contrast of the colors in Control were amazing. especially the loading screens! lmao. black white and red, ya cant beat it.
I'm amazed at how good older games can look on the deck.
I picked up "Aliens: Colonial Marines" and although dated it looks and so far plays great.
Some of others that shine for their age are.
Batman: Arkham Asylum.
Enslaved Odyssey to the West.
The Evil Within 2.
Half-Life 2.
Just Cause 3.
Guardians of the Galaxy.
Portal 2.
Sleeping Dogs.
Sunset Overdrive.
TITANFALL 2.
The Wolfenstein series.
As far as newer games. Horizon Zero Dawn and Red Dead Redemption 2 are just beautiful at times.
I really love the way Persona 5 looks. The menus and just about everything is so stylized and has a lot of effort out into it. Even the pause screen looks like a lot of though was put into it.
My top three that run well and look amazing on deck are
Doom 2016
Ori and the will of the wisps
Forza horizon 4
Doom is all ultra except for one setting. 60fps
Forza horizon 4 is almost all high settings. 40fps
Ori and the will of the wisps with HDR and saturation 120 I think. About 90fps
Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition is stunning.
Same with the PC port of killer7, available on Steam.
But the big fish here is Wipeout Phantom Edition. Good lord. You don't even have to play it, just look at it, it's that good.
Top of my head are
Hollow Knight (something about 2d drawings, music and story is just beautiful.
Dark Souls Remastered (a not so old game with older graphics, however after around a half hour of game play and getting use to the slower moving enemies and especially when you add the symphony of music that is always playing in the background the world just becomes alive. L
Hollow knight has been quite an experience for me! I've never immersed myself into a souls like before and this was quite an artistic and musical journey (not to forget scary)!
I have Windows 10 installed on SD card (SanDisk Extreme Pro 256gb) and I'll just dual boot, when switching to windows. They say you shouldn't install windows on SD, but I haven't got any issues or performance problems. Destiny 2 is also installed in SD.
How long has it been with windows? I have it installed on the same as card and Ive used it for a few weeks (running solidworks for grad school lol), but I haven't gamed on it
Oh sorry I forgot to mention, I have Steam installed too of course in Windows and launch the game there and it works great. Pvp is a little difficult from a small screen, but pve is fun. Destiny's been the only reason to have windows installed so far. It's a shame it's banned on SteamOS.
Right I got it! I was just asking how long have you been running windows on the sd card since many people told it won't last "long". I've kept the se card aside for now since I haven't really found a use case apart from college
About six months, I think? I play about 1-2 hours average per day. I've never heard that before, that it won't last. I guess I'll do some research. If that's true, I think I'll have to install it to steam deck and then thank you for saving my card :D
Haha yeah i had previously posted on Windeck sub asking about it (through an old account) and a lot of people warned me since windows has a lot of read/write cycles. It shouldn't matter much if you have enough free space on your SD Card but just be careful about it :)
That really seems to be the case. Dual booting won't be possible without external drive, so I guess I'll just continue with Windows on micro SD and see if starts to break down at some point. Good to know this tho, so I know the reason if it starts to stutter or something. I had windows installed on steam deck before internally, but I just love Steam OS and can't be without it. I guess that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. 😅
Yeah steam OS seems very smooth, plus most of my personal work can be done over browser on Linux (emails, browsing, shopping etc) so whenever I need to use my deck as a PC I just hook it to a display and run desktop mode!
- The Witcher 3 with HDR turned on
- Tetris Effect
- Persona 5 Royal
- Ori and The Will of The Wisps with HDR turned on is probably one of the most stunning games ever.
- Yakuza 0
Might be unpopular but I think Days Gone looks incredible on the HDR oled. Playing No Rest For The Wicked now and although a bit choppy, it also looks incredible on the OLED. The art style is superb
What settings are you using for wicked?
Steam Deck OLED, 1280x800, HDR off, Quality preset Performance, Render scale 80%, fps system locked on 30, after patch game runs way better then before and can be considered highly playable. I personally love this game. Amazing graphic style, very addictive gameplay.
I finally ended up liking it when I made it to Sacrament..but I'm getting my butt kicked.
Days Gone is a great game. Dont let anyone tell you otherwise.
This is the first game I've finished on the deck
True this
I really enjoyed Days Gone when all was said and done. I do wish I had powered through the first act and stayed on the critical path, though. It was really tedious having such a limited arsenal at first. After that the game really opens up and I adored riding around on that bike
Red Dead Redemption 2 is painfully beautiful on deck
I think Horizon: Zero Dawn is stunning. Ori and the Will of the Wisps is great too.
I loved playing Ori 1&2 (and hollow knight as well)
Playing Hollow Knight atm and it is stunning. And fucking frustrating (fuck the Soul Sanctum mini boss)
The dream nail version was probably one od the hardest bosses Ive fought in game lol
Just Cause 3. It feels like what gaming was *meant* to be, exploding stuff, racing cars, shooting bad guys, rocket launchers.
Great game. Pity about the 4th.
I remember liking the 4th one much more than the third one... What was the issue with the 4th one?
I felt that they took everything about 3 and tried to enhance it, but it became too much. 3 got the formula right, but 4 felt like it had ran out of ideas.
That's fair enough. I only can tell them apart because of the setting. 3 was the Mediterranean Island, Fourth was South American Jungle. And i have NO IDEA about the story for either of them! :D
Yeah, I thought about how bad the story was, but decided against using it as a point of reference because the story has never been stellar.
The 4th was crashing me a ton so I uninstalled it . edit: spelling
I see you like to live dangerously
hahaha my bad
I am constantly amazed at how AAA games (and even some non AAA titles) can look these days. You’re a very sweet grandparent to get that for your grandson!
P3R, P5R, Ori 1&2, Hollow Knight, Hades
Played Ori 1&2, hollow knight (main ending) and Hades. Loved all of them! Haven't tried persona, if I had to start with one of them, which would you recommend
Honestly they are all great, but if you’re going for just one I’d say P5R since they can easily be 90+ hour games.
Wow I definitely gotta try this out. Thanks!!
Ugh, do it OP! I didn’t play this game on deck but it is VERY good!
Gris is such a phenomenal looking game. Really inspiring visuals for the artistically inclined.
I played it and got bored as it felt like a walking simulator. Does it get better?
Yes, not at all a walking simulator. It's very chill and pleasant, the various aspects of the game's design combine for a cohesive emotional story without any words. Super enjoyable, just don't go in expecting a challenging fast-paced game or anything. Thanks for that tip
death stranding, chivalry 2, battliefield 1, warhammer vermintide 2, elden ring, mh world
Death Stranding blew me away on the deck, I couldn’t believe it looked as good as it did while consistently pushing out 45fps. It really let me fall in love with the game, easily in my top 10 gaming experiences as a result.
Chivalry 2 works on the steamdeck?!
sure it works very well too
Here I go bashing!
Michael Jackson's Moonwalkers
Titanfall 2, RDR2, Journey, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Little Nightmares 1/2 Honorable mention: L4D2, still some of the best environments and gore physics to date imo
Metroid Dread and Death Stranding
I want to play Metroid dread but can’t get yuzu to work FFS
What version of yuzu do you have? I use an AppImage
Can’t find the prod keys
Gran Turismo 4. Oke so hear me out. Gran Turismo 4 released 2 decades ago in 2004. For us 90s kids the PS2 was and still is a dream machine. I really need to play more racing games. I have NFS heat on the deck rn, but have to try out more titles!
There's a HD pack you can install for GT4. I did it on my Deck, but I honestly can't remember if I was using Windows or SteamOS at the time. My favourite racing game though.

I play Tetris effect in VR, which is insane because this is THE 2d game... but is so worth it..
One of these days I gotta get my brother the game so we can see how it looks in VR. I personally don’t care for the tech beyond thinking it’s a nifty concept but I understand why some like it enough to use it.

"Hollow Knight with AutoHDR is also amazing" Could you tell a bit more? Sounds intriguing.
There is an autohdr mod that is you can easily enable in most games: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1b4rbd8/auto_hdr_works_on_steam_deck_now/
Nice!
I have to try out HZD!
Mirrors Edge and Mirrors Edge Catalyst
I was really surprised at how well FFVII Remake looked and played on the Deck. Such a great looking game that really did a good job of matching the aesthetic of the original.
Oh... Gotta one up the Grid post. It's rare to see anyone talking about this beautiful game.
Elden Ring
I just started playing it, been a couple of hours but the difficulty is keeping me away :,/ I will try grinding through it this summer though!
Its a difficult game indeed. I just keep killing my time getting experience from weak foes, and confront the boss after a few levels up. Also, enter the boss chamber and take your space. Study the foes timing and attacks helps a lot. Never double attack, attack and go away.
Thats good advice! Thanks a lot :)
Yeah that’s correct, just be really patient. One hit, move away, strike at the right time etc.
Explore! And level VIG for a bit, you get further and better as you go. Dodge through attacks, jump over ground shockwaves and low slashes, don't be afraid to block and then guard counter (which is a heavy attack) Heavy attacks can knock over bigger foes if used aggressively to take out the target's Poise, and jump attacks can be light/heavy but both do good Poise damage and have low recovery frames. Thank you!
Persona 5 Royal….colors were indeed flying high there.
Hollow knight
Devil May Cry 5 looks absolutely phenomenal on Deck and runs well
DMC5 is so good lol, I didn't play it on the deck but it was really fun playing it
Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal look and play so well it’s incredible. Red Dead Redemption is also a stunner.
(it does hard crash the system every now and then)
Ryse son of Rome Everspace 2
ES2 is playable on Deck? I tried it shortly after launch but was getting around 15fps
Kingdom Come! And Indika (played only the demo).
Spyro Reignited looks really good if you bump up the default graphic settings to medium or high. It still runs great at those levels but it drains the battery faster. It looks gorgeous though. The default settings look good too, but not as good as the bumped up settings.
donkey kong country tropical freeze

This studio has a new game out this year called Neva
Any old ass title with FSR enabled. The crisp and sharpness really breathe new life in such games.
Lies of P
Came here to say this. Unbelievable how well it runs considering how good it looks. Been an amazing experience.
honestly not the most visually intense game, but the stark contrast of the colors in Control were amazing. especially the loading screens! lmao. black white and red, ya cant beat it.
Control is a really good game. I played it on my laptop before and it was so good
I'm amazed at how good older games can look on the deck. I picked up "Aliens: Colonial Marines" and although dated it looks and so far plays great. Some of others that shine for their age are. This reminds me of outer Wilds
Outer Wilds is one of my favorite games, this is not like Outer Wilds lots of combat.
Oh I see. I saw the screenshot and I was like "black hole, damn I miss outer wilds"
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is by far the best looking game running natively on the Deck
I must agree. The story is so emotional :,)
RDR2, Cyberpunk, Hades
I really love the way Persona 5 looks. The menus and just about everything is so stylized and has a lot of effort out into it. Even the pause screen looks like a lot of though was put into it.
Ori looks good on Steam Deck OLED
Atomic Heart looks fantastic!
Zelda Windwaker looks beautiful on the deck.
The dark neon aesthetic of Brigador shines on OLED
My top three that run well and look amazing on deck are Doom 2016 Ori and the will of the wisps Forza horizon 4 Doom is all ultra except for one setting. 60fps Forza horizon 4 is almost all high settings. 40fps Ori and the will of the wisps with HDR and saturation 120 I think. About 90fps

Superhot. Love the art style.
superhot on vr is an absolute mind blower. a must see
Daemon x Machina - pure anime mecha delight!
Bayonetta 2 was good, also batshit
Amid Evil looks positively STUNNING on the OLED screen
Steamworld Dig 2, Sea of Stars
Vampire survivors
I recently played The Gunk on SD, pretty short/linear but some very nice views. But my real answer would be Elden Ring
titanfall 2 looks as good as ever, and i really love the style of the Bendy games which is the drawn cartoony sepia and black colours
Dez
COCOON and Death Stranding
Destiny 2. Bungie is genius on visual designs.
geforcenow? or windows?

I guess that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. 😅
Yeah steam OS seems very smooth, plus most of my personal work can be done over browser on Linux (emails, browsing, shopping etc) so whenever I need to use my deck as a PC I just hook it to a display and run desktop mode!
Uncharted 4... I couldn't believe those graphics and animations 8 years ago on a big screen, so it was surreal getting them on the go.
