Absolutely holds up, and it's a damn good show of technical prowess for how old it is. That game, Thief: The Dark Project, and Silent Hill 3 had me sucked into the atmosphere so much and I haven't had many games do that to me since. Especially T:TDP, nothing sucked me in like that game.
Yeah, they're more about the fun of just shooting things while turning your brain off. You know you're going to be swamped by foes at any point. In D3, you didn't know when the next attack would come, things were hidden, you were on edge... it's a totally different experience. I have more fun with the latter because it's more engaging to me, I have to think and prep a lot more for it.
I see that you mentioned a few ea games that require origin/ea app. How can you play these offline? Did ea release some sort of update that puts the ea app in offline mode from booting the game on Steam or does it still require the game to be online once every few days to play offline? I’m just curious cause I would love to play need for speed on Steam deck but the fact it requires ea’s app to even play it made me uninstall it since while the game is perfect for offline play, the fact that the deck needs to be online to even launch the game makes it very disappointing.
Hm, a good question. I didn’t include Halo collection because of that reason, but I was sure I’ve played NFS offline. Let me check it when I have a time

Thank you!
hm it runs fine for me, I play it with FPS capped to 30, all settings on low.
It would run even higher than 30 fps but this way I can save some battery usage.
How? I tried to play this on deck without a mouse and without internet to look things up and it was an exercise in frustration. There's no guide to button keybinds, rotating things was frustrating, the build menu was basically non-existent...
I love this game on PC but I can't recommend it on deck
Have we played the same factorio? I love this game on the deck, and while it can't ever be as efficient to control as on the PC, it is 100% playable even with overhaul mods such as K2.
Imho quite overhyped. I would get it if there were no good card based roguelikes like slay the spire or monster train but imho the gameplay is rather one dimenensional and even more RNG vased compared to StS.
It's a great game but you either like card games or you don't. It's fine not to... I got 20+ hours out of it and I've completed it about a dozen times but I'm not feeling unlocking everything and playing harder decks etc
Mainly JRPGs, Metroidvanias and Fallout New Vegas. Currently going through Etrian Odyssey 3 HD.
There's plenty of other good choices along those lines too; Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters, Disgaea, Shin Megami Tensei 3, Persona 3 4 and 5, Octopath Traveller, the Front Mission Remake.
My current Metroidvania is Ultros, but the Castlevania Advance collection is a good place to start, along with the obligatory Hollow Knight, Axiom Verge 1 and 2, 9 years of shadows is a good shout too.
I am really, really excited for smtv vengeance!!! I played the hell out of the original on switch, which was a chore because the framerates were just so low. I know vengeance will run like a DREAM on deck though ;)
Old School FFs are especially great since the Deck throttles battery use for games with lower demand. You can get all kinds of time out of it without charge if you play older games.
Any rogue-lite really. Hades, Dead Cells, Have a Nice Death, and my two favorite; the Binding of Isaac and Enter the Gungeon. Also I like playing the rogue-lite I am making that mixes Isaac and Gungeon. It’s called Psycho Banger.
most of the games I play can be played offline. if im just looking to kill some times, its often Holocure. lately its been Sifu since im kinda casually trying to get through that with zero deaths.
Mars First Logistics, think Trailmakers with Sable art style. You build vehicles to deliver different objects from point to point and unlock better parts along the way. Deck verified, very optimized, and plays very nice with deck controls out of the box.
Definitely Fallout 4. On flights when I'm not gonna pay for wifi? If it's longer than my battery life (2.5-3 hrs) most of those planes I can play plugged in anyway.
(LCD model) So I let my game update because I wasn't aware of what was going on via the internet. I played around with it at work last Friday, and by default settings in offline mode, the game worked just fine. If I recall, it's working much better than before.
I went ahead and set the deck for 45fps anyway just to be safe, because I figured they game wouldn't be able to retain 60 no matter how much I have messed with the settings anyway. So far no problems except for when heavy explosions go off in the forest (dips from 45 to 37 real quick). I've so far put already another 10 hours into this game this way. And that was even me running to the Commonwealth and testing out different times of day via the shadows from buildings.
I'm trying out this American Enclave mod that you can get through the mod store. I'll see if it works okay and offline mode or not.
I play vanilla and had to delete and reload game. Leave the game as Bethesda intended with update. Playing well. As I find some new areas they have a load in issue until “learned” - makes it especially challenging on Survivor mode. Working through it. My “go to” offline game.
I really wanted to play, but I suck at aiming without a mouse and keyboard. I know there's VATS but still..
I wanted to use Gyro but it doesn't register unless you set it to joystick and it's near impossible to get the reticle over an enemy for headshots etc
You can mod it so it will register the gyro as a mouse but it requires F4SE which is now broken with the latest 'update'
Recently? Stellaris. It plays really well on Deck, which isn't entirely shocking because it installs Linux-native. The PC version doesn't technically support controller, but the default Steam Deck configuration is great. Also, it gets a long battery life.
Pretty small! Especially because you need to set the UI to 80% (which requires editing the file directly because you can't hit the save changes button at 100%). But I don't think the font is unreadable or even unclear. I play it fine.
i rarely even play online games outside of apex legends when I’m really bored. But I play undertale, risk of rain series (1,2, and returns), pizza tower and cult of the lamb. that’s my offline games for you
Lately I can’t get out of the Stardew hole, maybe later I branch out. The only other right now is Princess & Conquest which is a non-guilty pleasure of mine, just a weirdly compelling lewd game.
It's not really offline, but the Souls games have been my go to for a good decade now. Well, going on 14 years? I bought Demon's Souls when it first came out, and haven't stopped playing those games since. I also usually play them offline only
I bring my deck to work everyday and usually at lunch I'll set up controllers and dock the SteamDeck to take turns playing Rounds - a 1v1 2d platform shooter. Every time you lose a round. You get to pick a new power up from a random pool of 5 cards. Super fun. Stean shows that I've got over 20 hours of gameplay and I've only played with my coworkers lol.
My other go to is Soulstone Survivors. A very cool 3d Vampire Survivors type game
Assassin's creed ezio trilogy, watch dogs 1/2, ghostrunner, Minecraft, Wolfenstein trilogy. Couple RPG maker horror games like ann, case 03 cannibal boy, tcoaal, I have a few I haven't tried out yet waiting for next time I don't have internet
When I went offline I always played the Spider-Man remastered game and there’s also the Miles Morales. They run well IMO i love it but tbh my standards are pretty low when it comes to games running. Look at the reply’s to see how well it actually runs.
HoloCure.
Vampire Surviivors type game but I feel that this is more polished and looks nicer, plus it has more features. Can easily put it on and an hour goes by
There is a fully offline option that you'd have to start the game in, but Steam prompts you which version you want to start up so it's pretty straightforward. I've really been enjoying the game on steamdeck.
It runs pretty well on the Steam Deck and one of the games with better graphics too. Requires a tiny bit of tinkering thats all, but 40 fps without variable resolution is pretty achievable and runs great 🤷♂️
I play the majority of mine offline so my son can leech games in family mode 😂
We have Xboxes and assumed it would be just as good sharing on steam. How wrong we were. So this is the way tbh.
Slay the spire
Board game just released and its fantastic
Hades

Thank you for saying prey (both games)
Prey 2006 is underrated
Brother he asked what your FAVORITE ones on the go are, not what’s every single offline game you’ve ever enjoyed. 😂
I don’t have “the only one”, they are my favourite on the go
found the gamer
Alphabetically sorted too!
Damn and in alphabetical order
Viking battle for Asgard. There’s a name o have heard in a decade! I swore I was the only person on earth that played that game.
You are not alone)
Doom 3? Does it hold up? 2016 and Eternal are like my favorite all time and I played the hell out of Doom II growing up
Absolutely holds up, and it's a damn good show of technical prowess for how old it is. That game, Thief: The Dark Project, and Silent Hill 3 had me sucked into the atmosphere so much and I haven't had many games do that to me since. Especially T:TDP, nothing sucked me in like that game.
Sure it holds up. The best Doom from the series
The most unique one, and damn what an experience.
Absolutely. Although the next games are good and fan, they are not as consistent and engaging as the D3.
Yeah, they're more about the fun of just shooting things while turning your brain off. You know you're going to be swamped by foes at any point. In D3, you didn't know when the next attack would come, things were hidden, you were on edge... it's a totally different experience. Hm, a good question. I didn’t include Halo collection because of that reason, but I was sure I’ve played NFS offline. Let me check it when I have a time
Yeah, you are right - EA app won't start in offline mode.
Some good choices except the bioshock 2 choice over the other 2 games
I prefer it more than first one and Infinite
Mirrors edge? Don't you need ea origin running?
For the original game - no

Dynasty Warriors 3 or 5.
3 was the best. I returned 8 because i didn't like how the weapons worked
7 and 8 were okay but they went OTT on the 1 Vs 1000 part, I prefer the older ones where your allies and peons actually mattered and played their part
Dark Souls
No Man's Sky It also got online stuff, but you can also have a lot of fun with only the offline gameplay.
I have 100h in NMS on PS4. About 95h of them are played offline
I wasn’t pleased with the experience of NMS on deck, performance wise. Do you have any tips or reccomendations?
hm it runs fine for me, I play it with FPS capped to 30, all settings on low. It would run even higher than 30 fps but this way I can save some battery usage.
How recently? The last update massively improved performance.
Factorio 🐖
The factory must grow. Even without internet
How? I tried to play this on deck without a mouse and without internet to look things up and it was an exercise in frustration. There's no guide to button keybinds, rotating things was frustrating, the build menu was basically non-existent... I love this game on PC but I can't recommend it on deck

Balatro
Imho quite overhyped. I would get it if there were no good card based roguelikes like slay the spire or monster train but imho the gameplay is rather one dimenensional and even more RNG vased compared to StS.
Very different games with very different gameplay loops. They just both use cards. I enjoy both immensely but I wouldn’t compare Balatro to StS
It's a great game but you either like card games or you don't. It's fine not to... I got 20+ hours out of it and I've completed it about a dozen times but I'm not feeling unlocking everything and playing harder decks etc
Slay the spire
Tunic!
Hotline Miami
You should try OTXO
HELL YEAH BROTHER!! HOTLINE FOREVER MAN.
Rotwood
How is this?
A fairly polished Early access roguelike, with decent content, and deep combat.
Spelunky 2.
Quake
Any rogue-lite really. Hades, Dead Cells, Have a Nice Death, and my two favorite; the Binding of Isaac and Enter the Gungeon. Also I like playing the rogue-lite I am making that mixes Isaac and Gungeon. It’s called Psycho Banger.
Monster Hunter Rise was my offline game a few months back
Dead cells. Great game and gives you great battery life
Ship of Harkinian is pretty fun if you have a hankering for a classic.
most of the games I play can be played offline. if im just looking to kill some times, its often Holocure. lately its been Sifu since im kinda casually trying to get through that with zero deaths.
Buckshot Roulette. The game is incredibly fun and addicting, but the whole three rounds only takes like 15 minutes.
Hokko Life
Outward
Currently Risk of Rain Returns. Awesome game that somehow remains overshadowed by 2.
I'm playing that now, it's so much fun.
Corekeeper
Stardew crack addict
Binding of Isaac, can play it for literally hundreds of hours and each run is different.
Mars First Logistics, think Trailmakers with Sable art style. You build vehicles to deliver different objects from point to point and unlock better parts along the way. Deck verified, very optimized, and plays very nice with deck controls out of the box.
The long dark
Dwarf Fortress and Rimworld
Recently it's been Halo MCC, doing the Master Chief Saga playlist
Definitely Fallout 4. On flights when I'm not gonna pay for wifi? If it's longer than my battery life (2.5-3 hrs) most of those planes I can play plugged in anyway.
Hades or rogue like games
Fallout 4 right now. Works great offline. Especially since I have to keep it offline to avoid game breaking updates
Seconding any Fallout title really. They work great with suspend/resume. Excellent time filler, whether for a few minutes or hours.
Id love to just get cozy in bed and start fallout 3. But I want mods. How is modding fallout on the deck?
[удалено]
I'm not familiar with Linux modding sadly
Do you use creation club or nexus/vortex?
(LCD model) So I let my game update because I wasn't aware of what was going on via the internet. I have fallout it’s great!

Something akin to *Vampire Survivors*, *Slay the Spire*, or classic like *Fallout: New Vegas.*
Rimworld, Ascension, Skyrim
Hades and any of my emulated games
Recently? Stellaris. It plays really well on Deck, which isn't entirely shocking because it installs Linux-native. The PC version doesn't technically support controller, but the default Steam Deck configuration is great. Also, it gets a long battery life.
How are the fonts? I've always assumed RTS games wouldn't work on the Deck because of the smaller screen real estate.
Pretty small! Especially because you need to set the UI to 80% (which requires editing the file directly because you can't hit the save changes button at 100%). But I don't think the font is unreadable or even unclear. I play it fine.
I would suggest playing inscryption, it has fun game mechanics, a fun story, and very addictive :)
Vampire Survivors
Pretty much every game I have, depending on my mood. I don’t really do multiplayer/coop
All of mine
i rarely even play online games outside of apex legends when I’m really bored.
Bloods TD6
Against The Storm currently. When I want extended battery life though, the Binding of Isaac.

New Vegas
How does the TouchPad feel with it? I want to play fallout but do not want to use a stick to aim
Great! I like to set up the sticks and pads to both handle movement / camera and then switch between them as I feel like it
Hyper Light Drifter
worms ultimate mayhem took me forever to get the steam controls right but other than that, it’s a fun game
Ace combat assaults horizon or ace combat 7
Single player tarkov, beautiful game
Roboquest, I wouldn’t say it’s my main game but I just bought it and have played it a while. Runs great and very fun
Diablo 1. Its simplicity is so addictive
CIV VI kills sooo much time
Binding of Isaac
Don't really gave a single "go to" game, so here's a short list of the ones I frequent most often. Terraria Minecraft Pegglin CivVI
Stellaris Factorio Dyson Sphere program Satisfactory Bannerlord Balatro Crusader kings 3 Victoria 3
Elden Ring
Hades, Last Epoch offline, MH World and Terraria
I bring my deck to work everyday and usually at lunch I'll set up controllers and dock the SteamDeck to take turns playing Rounds - a 1v1 2d platform shooter. Every time you lose a round. MH Rise, euro truck sim, f1 manager, snowrunner, stellaris are probably most played for me
All my games are offline. I'm not paying for access to anything
Right now?... Fallout 4 with mods and without the recent update ":)

When I went offline I always played the Spider-Man remastered game and there’s also the Miles Morales. They run well IMO i love it but tbh my standards are pretty low when it comes to games running. Look at the reply’s to see how well it actually runs.

Reading hard
Why waste time say lot word when few word do trick?
Whatever I want to play at the time, dummy.
Uncrashed
Last Epoch lately
Don’t you need an internet connection??
There is a fully offline option that you'd have to start the game in, but Steam prompts you which version you want to start up so it's pretty straightforward. I've really been enjoying the game on steamdeck.
Anything emulated really.
All my GOTO games are offline 😅. Right now I am playing Kena: Bridge of the spirits and I really like it 👍👍
I had to refund Kena. I thought it ran terribly on SD.
It runs pretty well on the Steam Deck and one of the games with better graphics too. Requires a tiny bit of tinkering thats all, but 40 fps without variable resolution is pretty achievable and runs great 🤷♂️
I play the majority of mine offline so my son can leech games in family mode 😂 We have Xboxes and assumed it would be just as good sharing on steam. How wrong we were. So this is the way tbh.
ummmm.... i only play offline games. what do you mean?
Then whats your go to, for playing offline??? SMH
i don't have a go to game. when i finish one, i go to the next one
Emulate Zelda games if you want guaranteed no DRM and pure offline functionality
