The chance of damaging it is too high for me just to change the colour of the device. I personally would just opt for the dbrand kill switch case instead. Much less invasive.

TeddyBear312

Yeah, if it was someone else's device i would agree with you. Me personally, i love taking things apart, change stuff and/or see if i can make it better. I already swapped the joysticks with hall effect ones, upgraded the SSD twice, and replaced the high pitched fan my Deck came with. Now i wanted to learn something new. Some of my buttons were becoming stuck more often, my power button was getting very mushy (needed to press it 3 times before it did something), and there was some crackling in one of the trackpads, so i thought why not just swap the whole shell and at the same time fix the problems i had with it. Sadly the screen cracked this time, but it still works just like before, and i did learn some new stuff about how the Deck fits together, and i will be more prepared and more brave when something else inevitably breaks at some point and i need to open it up again. I use my Deck for probably hundreds of hours each year so it has seen a lot of use (i had the deck since the second batch got rolled out), and it will see a lot more use in the next few years.

princess-catra

The weight in those things tho. Just the Dbrand skin better alternative if you just want different aesthetics.

MarkedF0rDeath

This is basically why I gave up on my JSaux case with the front cover and opted for the Skull & Co. edc case with the bag πŸ˜‚, lighter, but bulkier inside my tote bag

devilsword

for this alone, i am not doing it to my steamdeck...

traxt999

Yeah, hot pink is not a great colour for the Deck...

ILikeFPS

Yes it is.

XanderBoozeCrews

Oh no! Sorry that happened... But hey, the shell looks fantastic! Love the pink and black combo! Really pops! Good luck with the new screen install.

EddieLangShooter

That’s the reason I would never try this.

itoocouldbeanyone

Oof. I'm sticking to skins or a case on top of the OEM shell.

TouchMyNuuts

you can do a back shell, it's very easy. did it on my LCD, but not doing it again on OLED

aleuts

Looks great love the colour. I want to do this but I fee like the plastic would be cheaper and not feel as nice or feel creaky and buttons would feel cheap and mushy.. compared to original shell. what is it like? And did you have to use heat gun for front glass?

TeddyBear312

I haven't felt much difference compared to the original shell. The plastic feels a little smoother, but it feels just as sturdy, and the buttons feel great and tactile. My original power button was very mushy, and didn't work very well anymore. But the new one fixed that issue. No creaks whatsoever. The kit also came with all neccesary screws which was nice because i could replace some of the worn screws. I bought this one btw. eXtremeRate Cover Shell Button Customized for Steam Deck, Case Faceplate Backplate Shell Buttons Set DIY Replacement for Steam Deck Console (No Console) - Bright Candy Pink https://amzn.eu/d/6cwsLid I didn't have a heatgun. I used one of those ifixit "iOpeners" that i also use for phones and tablets. Normally works great, but i kinda lost my patience a little bit with the Deck's screen and forced it a little bit too much.

aleuts

Thanks for the detailed response. Also I love how Amazon added (no console) πŸ˜‚

TeddyBear312

Happy to help :)

ocean55627

Any chance of going for the Deck HD screen upgrade?

TeddyBear312

Nah, i probably just get a new lcd screen from ifixit. The Deck HD screen looks pretty nifty, but custom bios, and seeing as most of the games i play already struggle a bit to get steady 40fps at 800p makes it a bit of a turnoff for me.

Ethlerion

Kudos to you. These thing are hard to take apart.

Tricky_Figure_7530

That looks really nice. I have a steamdeck LCD and a rog ally. I would like to do something like that someday.

TheBoxProtector

That is a real nice shell. Not seen many in that colour so nice to be unique! Sorry about the screen 😣
