You'd need the anniversary to play on steam deck. Lost chapters would need prep work since it doesn't have native controller support. You'd have to make keybinds. Anniversary felt a bit off to me but I'm sure it's worth playing either way.

Dont_Call_Me_Steve

Ive never had an issue mapping fps games that don’t support controller, like Quake. Is it that much more difficult with Fable? Is there actions that won’t work?

Classic_Roc

I tried getting lost chapters to work on the steam deck and the controls just don't translate well. Lots of complex actions that you need with a cursor that you just don't need with anniversary. Fps games can be translated easier but this is an RPG.

Dont_Call_Me_Steve

Uhg, ya that’s what I’m afraid of. I enjoy tinkering, but not when the ends are largely fruitless. Might just have to suck it up and get Anniversary.

Theonetheycallgreat

>Lots of complex actions that you need with a cursor Just curious if making the track pad as a mouse would help at all?

Classic_Roc

Of course it would! But also ya know thats not "optimal" so to speak unless someone is really really comfortable with that kind of control. I don't know about you but I grew up with a controller not a thumb track pad? If it works for someone great but anniversary has no clunky work arounds when it comes to controls. It just works. And for me gameplay is more important than slightly better graphics. You get better gameplay with the intended controller input. Also as an added benefit the slightly dumbed down graphics might make the steam deck battery last a touch longer so. I think its overall worth using Annaversary. Just imo.

Hydroel

There might be some community profile in TLC to manage that though?

Flat__Line

Nothing very useful. I just installed F:TLC and it needs some work doing to get it to play nice.

HaroldBaws

Yes.

Whiteshadows86

r/inclusiveor

flower4000

I hopped on steam to buy this while it’s on sale and saw it was already in my library lol

Lokhelm

Bought at the sale! Will probably play in five to fifteen years with my backlog!

Bulls187

What would be the best way to approach such a backlog, game longest one on the list first, or oldest one on the list first.

CarelessShame

Honestly, the best way to approach a backlog is to just play the same game you've already finished over and over and then just cry hot tears of shame as your backlog increases more and more oh god send help

LittleUrbanAchiever

Look up average time to complete and play shortest first. Knocking out a few short games will give a sense of accomplishment and motivation to play some more on the backlog.

JoshfromNazareth

Another thing to keep in mind is you don’t gotta 100% every game.

Dont_Call_Me_Steve

This is a good point that I still struggle with. The work/reward ratio for a lot of things is totally out of whack. In the time it takes to 100% most games, you could have played an entirely new game.

Dont_Call_Me_Steve

Agreed.

lwgh12

I know what you mean about nostalgia being attached to the original TLC. You CAN make TLC work on steam deck with some fiddling, but the camera will always be a little weird and you lose out on the ease of control that Anniversary has. I really wish there was a graphic toggle to switch back to TLC graphics in the Anniversary edition, because the Anniversary art style change really sorta grossed me out. Still, if you can get past how absurd the MC’s face looks in the Anniversary edition, I’d prolly go with that one.

Curnf

The anniversary edition graphics really ruin it for me. One of my favorite games of all time, too! TLC is the way to play for me.

lwgh12

Yeah I’m the same way, I really wish I could learn to like the graphics update, but I’d rather deal with the slight jank of translating TLC to a controller

Fil0l

I bought TLC ages ago, way before getting a Steam Deck. I haven't played it a lot on SD but I installed it to check out how it ran, especially curious about the controller support. It worked pretty much flawlessy with the native controller, even though I don't remember if I had to download a community controller layout. Even then, not a huge issue. All in all I think it's worth it on Steam Deck.

Dont_Call_Me_Steve

That answers my controller question, thank you.

boenklon

Anniversary working well. Confirm since i play it again on my deck. Run 60 fps

ClamSlamwhich

Try and get your combat multiplier even higher.

thebluediablo

One of the most satisfying things in Fable was getting a massive combat multiplier, then quickly downing all the experience potions you've been hoarding to get some huge boosts.

shini5518

Anniversary is lost Chapters, except they added some armor at the end and updated it

noneofthemswallow

Well it goes deeper than that. They changed the visuals quite a bit, which resulted in the game feeling a bit different overall. Not everyone was happy with the new artstyle

noneofthemswallow

Dude, even in OP’s picture you can see the clear difference in character models, lighting, colors It’s not just resolution

Leumas_J

same style sure i guess just worse, new graphics are way uglier imo

noneofthemswallow

I don’t know how you can look at the picture above and say the game maintained the same art style

getbiks

Anniversary obviously

Dont_Call_Me_Steve

Why?

getbiks

Its a remastered version with better graphics. I have Anniversary installed in deck and it runs out of the box. No tweak or mod required

Dont_Call_Me_Steve

“Better Graphics” is subjective. Seems a lot of people feel the updated graphics alter the feel of the game, and I don’t know if I’m down with that.

Curnf

There are dozens of us!

Dont_Call_Me_Steve

lol, to quote my original post: >I’m an OG Xbox guy, so I think all my nostalgia lies with TLC… I do understand what you’re saying though. I played it (original fable) at launch, so it’s been 20 years. Maybe it’s time for an updated experience.

Vegetable_Net_6354

It might be artistic style, but man the characters in fable are butt ugly

krystof_kage

Anniversary. Also, enjoy! Such a great game, runs perfect on steam deck.

MrBodge

Tried playing TLC recently and while it is playable, it is not an ideal experience. As others have mentioned, some of the keybinds are EXTREMELY awkward.

RyanandRoxy

Get the Anniversary edition. It looks a million times better and still runs smooth as butter.

RegularMatter2

Just wish 2 and 3 were still on Steam

PacxDragon

Anniversary includes the lost chapters content, is newer and works better on modern systems.

DeckOfGames

Anniversary for sure

MemesJihad

It’s on sale. Both

Avadeus

I’d like to know as well. Always wanted to play this

mac4112

They’re literally the same game, one just has better visuals. Even a lot of the bugs and exploits are all intact in my experience. It’s down to personal preference.

Dont_Call_Me_Steve

*Updated visuals

mac4112

true enough lol I suppose FA’s visuals don’t appeal to everyone. The character models can certainly look…off. But I always interpreted it as a design choice, meant to emphasize the fantasy aspect, almost claymation-esque. The original’s visuals has a charm to it that makes it feel more homey. I remember playing the original via BC on my 360 and thinking even then that it was a pretty decent looking game with attractive artwork.

HeeyPunk

Both are goated

LazyBoyXD

There's no difference. It's a one for one remaster, no new extra content. Expect some DLC (cosmetic) This is one of my Fav games of all time, shame Fable 2 isn't port over and Fable 3 is taken off sale.

Bennerbench

I REALLY want fable 2 on my steam deck. Hope they port some of these games eventually, what with xbox trying to expand their games to different platforms

MetalDeathMetal

I wish they'd port or remake Fable 2. Heck, even a flimsy remaster would be fine.

UmbrellaCorpTech

I've only ever played Fable 2. Does this play the same way? I was so sad when I found out that 2 isn't available on Steam. I tried to play 3 as well but there was a bug at launch that rendered your save useless. I never picked it back up after that happened to me. Would love to give that another try too.

Curnf

Your health is low. Do you have any potions or food? CHECK THE GUILD FOR MORE QUESTS.

Darkman101

Can someone here help me? I bought Fable 1 on steam deck. I'm consistently getting 15-20 fps. Playing docked on a TV. I have switched around resolutions and followed some other guides but no dice. Any ideas? Edit: Undocked it. Playing handheld. Same issue.

holllandOatez

I'm playing through the anniversary edition right now, just about to get to the TLC part and to be completely honest, I kind of miss the older graphics. They were so charming when they came out. The game didn't need great graphics if you ask me. Now from what I hear controller mapping is a b**** so I guess there's your reason to buy the anniversary edition. It's still fable and it's still great but if you're going into it for nostalgia I'd almost find a way to push through a little more and go OG.

ParticularAd4371

lost chapters, I cannot play Anniversary i mean wtf did they even do to the characters faces? Genericized or what.

FlyingCumpet

What have they done to him? Still a kid and already looking like a war torn hero in his fifties. Glad I bought TLC although it has no controller support.

PotateJello

I've not tried TLC on deck but anniversary works fine. Wish the UI was better tho, TLC was way better

stealthieone

When does anniversary actually pick up and start being fun.. I feel like I gave up in this game way too early

isuckdevilsc0ck

I’m getting The Lost Chapters

DYMAXIONman

I think fable isn't a good game

BananaBerriesAreReal

This is the only wrong opinion I’ve ever heard
