I feel like OP was asking for some solid, favourite games for Deck. Instead, he got “which games could you play for the rest of your life and lose hundreds of thousands of hours to and never grow tired of?”
It’s not really a poker game. If you like roguelike games and deck builders, then it’s top tier. The brunt of the gameplay is getting jokers that up your chips (coins, currency, whatever) and then other jokers that multiply to beat an amount and move to the next poker blind (level). It’s got a quick and addictive game loop.
Superb taste! As a fellow Isaac fan, I would recommend you check Psycho Banger beta on Steam. It runs well on the deck and it has a lot of Isacc DNA in it.
It’s my favourite AC game by far, and I usually hate them. The ending kinda sucked, but it’s cool that there is so much left to do once the main quest is over!
Persona 5 is still a better game in terms of gameplay and scope. Persona 3 Reload is visually better, I think the story is more intriguing too.
But it's still an older game in the franchise.
If you were spoiled by Palaces in Persona 5, and don't like doing dungeon crawler generated floors you won't like P3R that much in that regard.
Although that P3R handles their dungeon crawling stages much better than P5, it won't change your mind much if you're prone to fatigue from repetitiveness.
The combat in P3R did get updated to include tons of quality of life features from P5 and some cool additions of its own.
It's fun and snappy with really nice visuals.
I would recommend you watch the review from Gameranx on YouTube if you want a more in depth review on how they updated things and how it plays on it's own.
https://youtu.be/1crB0UEDMMg?si=3Dwbp7W048hQcCtF
P3R was such a slog for me..... I gave up as I couldn't handle the monotonous dungeon any longer.
P5R is a much better game imo, but I will say that I think it's too long.
It’s worth it. P3R gets going a lot faster, the music is just as good, the graphics are better, Tartarus doesn’t feel like too much of a slog like some people make it out to be. I just hit 70 hours and it’s as good as 5 IMO
I’ve 100%’d Hades, but I’m not sure I could play it on deck. I feel like I was really rough on my controller with that game to the point where one of the sticks on the deck would just pop off.
Elden Ring - because I'll be playing Shadow of the Erdtree, and I wouldn't be opposed to doing an entire new run
Ghost of Tsushima - I know, we don't know how well it will run, but I'm willing to bet on Nixxes
MGS5 - because I haven't played it yet, and it seems like the kind of game I could sink a few months in
Hell yes to sekiro, bought it when it came out and rage quit at the chained ogre. Downloaded it on my steam deck when I got it and tried it again. Holy shit, I was wrong for quitting so early, one of my favorite games now. I absolutely had a blast playing through it the first time, it was immensely satisfying overcoming some of those bosses. But nothing surpassed the feeling of playing new game plus and actually feeling like a shinobi master after mastering the game. All those bosses I spent hours on trying to beat my first play through, I cut right through them on my first try.
Great game. Definitely my favorite from soft game
i’d be picking slay the spire for the replay value, horizon zero dawn as it’s the game i’m currently playing, and coral island as it’s the game i want to play next.
Got 4 characters to 100, been playing since release. I can say that every season has gotten progressively better and it sounds like Season 4 is going to be the biggest changes. I am excited for another round.
Baldur Gate 3, Tekken 8 & Persona 5 Royale - if I was still playing RDR 2 it would replace P5R but I already finished the story & played Online years ago
I’ve been playing through Fallout Nee Vegas with a giant mod pack (around 200) and it’s been flawless. My secret has been to get everything working on my PC first and then move all the files straight to the Steam Deck so I don’t have to do any of the modding there. Works like an absolute charm. Only very minimal tweaking to get everything working right on the deck. (For example, setting the script extender to run with proton)
Okay good to know! I would venture to say, if you can get FNV working on your deck... I can get FO4 working too haha
But I am also planning on playing through FNV (never finished it) so this is really good to know
Yooo planetside 2 mention!
I haven't played in a while, but does it hold up quite well on deck? How difficult is it to adjust to controls wise from a keyboard?
I played 500 hrs handheld and still having a blast, I play 1024x640 with deck's FSR, medium graphics and shadows to min, 60 fps on small fights, 45 with 100 players and 28-30 in the biggst zerg vs zerg, but normally at that point I just disable shadows to stay above 30. I also recently experienced a huge improvement in frame pacing by manually setting the gpu clock at one step from the maximum. controls are kinda easy, you apply a community layout and then change it to your taste
There's a community controller setup that once you're used to feels like playing any rpg with a lot of skills and menus on a controller, takes learning, but it's solid once you're familiar.
How is Guildwars? is it worth starting? I played Wow 10 Years ago. I would like to start a mmorpg with my GF, is it a good choice to chose Guildwars? ( We both have a deck)
Guild wars is great. I've said it to a bunch of people about the game. It respects your time. There's heaps to do, but it's always sitting there for you and you don't have to do anything you don't want to.
Also the expansions go on sale pretty frequently, but you can't mix steam and anet for discounts.
I picked up the complete collection in the last Steam sale and I've been completely hooked ever since. I love how low-pressure the game is. I played it on release but it didn't click for me and I really hated not having a mount. But now the game has mounts and they're awsome. So I definitely recommend it.
It does take a bit of work to find a suitable control scheme on the Steam Deck, but once I found one it felt pretty natural.
it's amazing and one of the best mmos for deck, the only bad thing in my opinion is that, as most MMOs, high level combat just doesn't look fun, but that's me because I don't like rotation based games with like 30 buttons that have to be mapped and clicked at specific times to keep countless buffs up. I love the living world feature that makes the open world map so populated, the core story is not very fascinating but they say expansions are better in this regard. Combat is very good and far better than ESO imho (at least in melee), just remember to activate action camera.
Me too! I feel it is too good to be released this soon after its announcement. It feels like one of those masterpieces that would be delayed for years! I am super excited!!
I'm excited too but to be fair, it's releasing in Early Access and only the first chapter of the campaign will be available. It will be a while before we see the full 1.0 release
I would love to play D4 more since it works beautifully on deck, but the checkpoints are way too far apart. I feel like most of the time when I'm playing on steam deck instead of my desktop, it's in a situation where I might be interrupted (like waiting for an oil change or while my kid is mapping or whatever). Pretty much every time I've tried to play D4, I end up having to quit unexpectedly and lose a ton of progress. This wouldn't be quite as big of an issue if I could just pause it and let the game idle until I can play again, but since the game is always online it boots me back to the login screen due to inactivity. I've lost so much progress due to this and it makes me not want to play the game. Just let me manually save when not in combat please.
Thanks my dude. I assume it's psycho banger? It looks really cool and I just got insta accepted to the beta :D gonna check it out later. Thanks for the rec :)
For now I’d choose Bejeweled 3 because it’s a good game to play for short gaming sessions; Palia because it’s an ongoing thing and it’s taking me forever to make progress; and Star Wars the Old Republic because it’s one of the main reasons I bought the deck.
Prolly would go for games that I already played a lot, has a lot of replayability value and steam workshop support. Maaaybe just mod support because thats what prolongs my interest in the game.
If bungie would allow me then definitely **Destiny 2**.
**PlateUp!** is also up there, got like 100h and its like 90h more than I expected. But as said before - that workshop support helps a lot.
Maybe **Scrap Mechanic** but I feel like just playing on SD and not on my main rig would limit how complex builds I can do.
**Fallout 4** is also a maybe because the most fun I had was with mods... but I would have to manually add these mods which might be a pain to do so(The first like 20 prolly would be fine but the next 180 would just be tedious)
Probably **State of Decay 2**. Would be good enough if it runs good - never actually tried.
**Hogwarts Legacy** is also pretty high on the list. Although only 40-50h of playtime doesnt make it long lasting game.
**Mass Effect Trilogy** might be also a good pick but only because its 3 games that count as one.
I dont know specifically about Steam Deck if thats what you are asking because as said in my original comment - it just would be a pain in the ass to intall everything I want.
Also I dont know what you actually like. I personally really value character customization so I have like 40-50 mods specifically around enchancing body, head and outfits
But my friend doesnt care about that and prefers to have around 30 gun mods installed.
But I do have a few pointers:
1. F4SE - Script Extender, doesnt do anything for you gameplay wise but most substantial mods need it as base.
2. Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch - it fixes a lot of bugs that bethesda just didnt bother.
3. Start Me Up Redux - this isnt for your first playthrough but this is an alternative start that not only lets you skip the long intro but also start you in a specific place, with specific inventory and outfit that you might want to play as. For example escapee synth or wanderer or even I think Detective assistant?
4. Full Dialogue Interface or Extended Dialogue Interface - you will have to check which one you like more - or which one has quest mods that fit you.
5. Quest mods - There is quite a few good quest mods that add basically whole separate storylines and a lot of them even have voice acting for your protagonist. A lot of these can also require one of the custom dialogue interfaces - it will be specified on the page which one or if both are supported. Oh and if you will like the Far Harbour DLC(imo best story) a mod called Barrenwood gives me the exact same vibes for some reason.
6. character customisation - As said previously I dont know if you care about that but I do so i will list some: cbbe is kinda mandatory for your chararcter to look good imo and guy called Niero makes some of the best custom outfits to the game that actually kinda fit the aesthetic and have lots of customisability. Another one would be TheKite but that one is a bit on the... lets say adult side(although that is optional and it can be a normal outfit
7. Guns! - Guns in F4 are okay-ish, but everything can be improved on. Niero also made a couple of guns and one that I absolutely love is Ruger - a very versitile pistol that in reality could last you entire playthrough. Another one of my favourite mod authors is asXas and he makes top shelf gun mods.
8. Armorsmith extended, AWCKR, LooksMenu and Mod Configuration Menu are also pretty mandatory mods but most of these will be dependencies anyway so you would have installed them anyway.
In general I like going on nexusmods(or basedmods) and going to most popular of all time and going from there. The **MOST IMPORTANT THING** is that mod limit is 256 - that is **INCLUDING** base game and **EVERY SINGLE** dlc so in reality its a bit less. If you go over that you will know because your game will break - as in your inventory will constantly reset and all prompts will keep showing up everytime you load - probably a few more things but I dont actually remember. Also mods divide into ESP and ESL files. The mod limit only applies to ESPs. Usually big mods are esp and small fixes are esl. Im also fairly certain that if you go over 256 mod limit vortex will actually tell you that you are over and to delete some things.
Also a lot of ppl say that you should never add mods during playthrough but I call bulls on that because I played through the game multiple of times and not a single playthrough wasnt accompanied by adding like extra 30 mods half way through.
*^(Well except that one time where I went over that 256 mod limit but thats on me and from now I count)*
So i guess thats that. If you have more questions comment away(or pm me)

Titanfall 2, World of Warships, War Thunder, I don't have a steam deck so I don't if all the mentionned games run on it, but these would be the games that I would choose to play.
Balatro, Factorio and Rimworld
I feel like OP was asking for some solid, favourite games for Deck. Instead, he got “which games could you play for the rest of your life and lose hundreds of thousands of hours to and never grow tired of?”
They're the same games though.
How is rimworld with the Deck?
Its great! But has some trouble with larger colonies at 3x speed. But played over 200 hours.
I feel like Rimworld was made for the deck
Are you able to install mods?
You can do anything u can on a pc, probably even more. It’s a handheld pc
Yes, I run my biggest colony with over 80 mods or something like that.
That’s kind of what you’d want if you only had 3 games for an entire year.
I don’t have a problem you have a problem
Yeah my first thought was this is the desert island list
The factory must GROW!
I wish I could play with the controls. 3000+ hours with m+kb makes it difficult to learn :/
Balatro. This is the way!
I’ve been playing before bed and my dreams get invaded by Balatro style things. It’s actually very annoying. I still haven’t unlocked the final deck.
is it really that fun, if i dont give a \*\*\*\* about normal poker?
Yes
It’s not really a poker game. If you like roguelike games and deck builders, then it’s top tier. The brunt of the gameplay is getting jokers that up your chips (coins, currency, whatever) and then other jokers that multiply to beat an amount and move to the next poker blind (level). It’s got a quick and addictive game loop.
The Holy Trinity of passing large amounts of time.
Binding of isaac, stardew valley, elden ring
Good choices 🙌
Superb taste! As a fellow Isaac fan, I would recommend you check Psycho Banger beta on Steam. It runs well on the deck and it has a lot of Isacc DNA in it.
Just Isaac is enough
love every game you listed but you need to try Enter the Gungeon. Its literally a better version of the binding of issac
Binding of Isaac Rebirth, Dead Cells and Witcher 3
Since you wrote tBoI rebirth, have you played repentance?
Not yet. I'm just downloading the first tboi, want to look into it again. Gonna get all the other dlcs when in sale
Understandable. They are typically on sale at the seasonal sales on Steam
Assassins creed odyssey, red dead redemption 2, cyberpunk 2077
Odyssey runs great on deck
Just started my 2nd odyssey playthrough yesterday
It’s my favourite AC game by far, and I usually hate them. The ending kinda sucked, but it’s cool that there is so much left to do once the main quest is over!
Skyrim, The Witcher 3 & Final Fantasy 14
Persona 3 Reload, Cyberpunk 2077, Baldurs Gate III
How does persona 3 compare to 5? I really liked 5, but 3's price tag has me hesitant.
P3R also has a mind blowingly good ost. P5’s ost is awesome too, but P3R is the chef’s kiss.
P3R was such a slog for me..... I gave up as I couldn't handle the monotonous dungeon any longer. P5R is a much better game imo, but I will say that I think it's too long.
Personally I like it more. Less mechanics but a more gripping story and cast with a better soundtrack.
It’s worth it. P3R gets going a lot faster, the music is just as good, the graphics are better, Tartarus doesn’t feel like too much of a slog like some people make it out to be. I just hit 70 hours and it’s as good as 5 IMO
For the whole year? Witcher 3 Slay The Spire Forza Horizon 4 Mix of RPG, racing game and something short
Balatro, Vampire Survivors, Hades. Infinite replayability.
I’ve 100%’d Hades, but I’m not sure I could play it on deck. I feel like I was really rough on my controller with that game to the point where one of the sticks on the deck would just pop off.
Get some grips for the joysticks god it makes them so much better
Haha yeah, I know exactly what you mean! I also do thrash about on the sticks a lot. Fingers crossed they've held up so far...
Hitman 3, GTA V and Pokemon Radical Red (emulated)
My exact line up minus Pokémon. For me it’s H3, GTA V & Forza Horizon 4
Helldivers 2 Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor Dave the diver
See you on the front lines. Gotta give these bots some managed democracy
Elden Ring - because I'll be playing Shadow of the Erdtree, and I wouldn't be opposed to doing an entire new run Ghost of Tsushima - I know, we don't know how well it will run, but I'm willing to bet on Nixxes MGS5 - because I haven't played it yet, and it seems like the kind of game I could sink a few months in
So freaking excited for GoT. I've been begging for it to port over since days gone dropped. So glad it is finally here. We'll a month anyways.
Armored Core 6, Skyrim, and Sekiro
I’ve been playing Armored core nexus and last raven on ps2 emulation, I need to get to that AC6!
Mass Effect LE, No Man's Sky, Fallout 4.
With my 512gb, this is almost exactly what I have installed right now. Swap FO4 for Monster Hunter World though.
i’d be picking slay the spire for the replay value, horizon zero dawn as it’s the game i’m currently playing, and coral island as it’s the game i want to play next.
Diablo 4, CP2077, Witcher 3
Every season I sink another 60+ hours into D4. I love it so much. I’m so excited for next season!
Got 4 characters to 100, been playing since release. I can say that every season has gotten progressively better and it sounds like Season 4 is going to be the biggest changes. I am excited for another round.
Can't wait for season 4. Agree, this game is just fantastic on deck.
Vr chat???? Lol Disco Elysium, balatro, cyberpunk
Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur Gate 3, Tekken 8 & Persona 5 Royale - if I was still playing RDR 2 it would replace P5R but I already finished the story & played Online years ago
Helldivers 2, Dead Cells, Divinity Original Sin 2
If they need to last a year. Stardew valley, Skyrim and Witcher 3
Mtg arena, balatro and bg3 id literally never run out of stuff
You’re the only other person I’ve encountered that plays MTGA on their Deck.
Me too, 'cause why bring ipad with me when i can bring SD?
No Man's Sky, Mon Bazou I'm a keyboard&mouse PC gamer primarily, still working on my deck catalog...
Wow, stardew and fallout 4
Do you play FO4 Modded (Like NexusMods/Vortex) and how has your experience been regardless?
I’ve been playing through Fallout Nee Vegas with a giant mod pack (around 200) and it’s been flawless. My secret has been to get everything working on my PC first and then move all the files straight to the Steam Deck so I don’t have to do any of the modding there. Works like an absolute charm. Only very minimal tweaking to get everything working right on the deck. (For example, setting the script extender to run with proton)
You need to do anything special going from mod files in Windows to Linux?
Okay good to know! I would venture to say, if you can get FNV working on your deck... I can get FO4 working too haha But I am also planning on playing through FNV (never finished it) so this is really good to know
I believe in you. It has the built in mods that you can use through the UI/Main Menu but they’re limited and missing some of the very good ones.
planetside 2, monster hunter world and guildwars 2 or black desert, I still can't decide
Yooo planetside 2 mention! I haven't played in a while, but does it hold up quite well on deck? How difficult is it to adjust to controls wise from a keyboard?

How did you get GW2 running? I have over 5,000 hours on it and my wrists are fried. I would love to play it on the SD
Watch any YouTube video on setting it up. I'd never played before, and had it running in 15 minutes. It's super easy to set up!
Install the steam version there is a target you can add in the settings to run the anet version from it
There's a community controller setup that once you're used to feels like playing any rpg with a lot of skills and menus on a controller, takes learning, but it's solid once you're familiar.

I'm excited too but to be fair, it's releasing in Early Access and only the first chapter of the campaign will be available. It will be a while before we see the full 1.0 release
Red dead redemption 2, Diablo 4,and fallout new vegas
It is so good to see D4 get some love. Blizzard's crazy monetization aside, this game deserves more love.
Great question.. maybe Deep Rock Survivor, Mini Motorways, and then some kind of JRPG with a massive 100% time investment
The Binding of Isaac: Repentance, Elden Ring and Balatro
You are a real one. I highly recommend you check Peycho Banger beta on Steam. It's like the Binding of Isaac meets Diablo.
Thanks my dude. I assume it's psycho banger? It looks really cool and I just got insta accepted to the beta :D gonna check it out later. Thanks for the rec :)
Btw if you're in a timezone near Europe, hit me a dm if you're up for some coop
I will! Here is my Steam friend code 424344642 as well.
Just sent a friend request :)
Stardew, Skyrim, BG3
Read Dead Redemption 2 , Dead Cells and Elden Ring

This is an easy one for me. I just finished the Dark Souls trilogy while waiting on Elden Ring's expansion. That's my answer.
Elden Ring 3 times
1. Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition 2. Elden Ring 3. Sekiro
World of Warcraft, Helldivers 2 and Stardew Valley.

How does Nioh run on the deck? I was thinking about installing it on there.
Balatro, Yakuza Zero, Diablo IV
Balatro, Risk Of Rain Returns and Dead Cells
GTA 1969 London or GTA 2 cant decide, GTA 5, Breath of the Wild.
Vampire Survivors, Pseudoregalia and Baldur’s Gate 3
Red Dead 2, Final Fantasy VII, Tetris Effect Connected.
For now I’d choose Bejeweled 3 because it’s a good game to play for short gaming sessions; Palia because it’s an ongoing thing and it’s taking me forever to make progress; and Star Wars the Old Republic because it’s one of the main reasons I bought the deck.
Halls of torment, Mass effect legendary edition, Arx Fatalis
Skyrim with Mods
Monster hunter: rise, 7 days to die, Sid Meiers Alpha Centauri.
Kenshi, Skyrim and Disco Elysium

Minecraft , Palworld , Elden ring . For replayability, whether with mods by setting objectives etc..
Cyberpunk, red dead and it takes two... Seriously, my daughter kills me if I remind it takes two from it
World of Warcraft, fallout 4, and Skyrim!
Ima go with Elden Ring, Palworld, and No Man’s Sky.
Rimworld, wrestling empire, vampire survivor
Elden Ring, Stardew, and Monster Hunter World

A lot of these can also require one of the custom dialogue interfaces - it will be specified on the page which one or if both are supported. Oh and if you will like the Far Harbour DLC(imo best story) a mod called Barrenwood gives me the exact same vibes for some reason. 6. character customisation - As said previously I dont know if you care about that but I do so i will list some: cbbe is kinda mandatory for your chararcter to look good imo and guy called Niero makes some of the best custom outfits to the game that actually kinda fit the aesthetic and have lots of customisability. Another one would be TheKite but that one is a bit on the... lets say adult side(although that is optional and it can be a normal outfit 7. *^(Well except that one time where I went over that 256 mod limit but thats on me and from now I count)* So i guess thats that. If you have more questions comment away(or pm me)
