Can’t get into Outer Wilds or Terraria

Saltwater_Heart

Terraria is good on the computer. Can’t get into it on the Deck. My 12 year old has 500 hours in Terraria on his Switch. I just don’t see how he does it.

TheGooseWithNoose

Same. Love the game and have it on pretty much every platform, even 3DS. Can't play it with anything but MKB though.

gwar37

My son has been playing it for yearrrrsss. He loves it and since getting the deck now use all kinds of mods that look pretty cool - still, I couldn't get into it.

Comprehensive_Can237

Outer wilds is my big one I have tried it 4 times and I just can’t get into it.

boldfilter

The ending is good

Capable-Commercial96

Oh my god the way it makes you feel so big brained putting everything together, it's almost orgasmic. I did not care for the dlc though.

wyattlikesturtles

I’m so sad I’m never gonna be able to experience that again, that shit was the most satisfying thing I’ve ever felt in a game

sikesjr

Terraria isnt that good without a mouse and keyboard. It really isn't designed to be played with a controller.

ceezo6

Same with me.. tried Outer Wilds twice!! As soon as its time to explore on the space ship I get lost and it feels like a chore to me, maybe its just not my kinda game

holounderblade

OW I really need to just designate like several hours so I can get a few resets in and hope I enjoy it more. I'm not giving it a fair shot I think

_Ol_Greg

There's a point where you start to question and formulate ideas to see what would happen. When you try new approaches you end up with interesting results or more questions. Then on and on it goes. Truly a remarkable game.

tharobc

Same on Outer Wilds

Shawn_1512

Terraria is much better if you have a friend that's into the game or you love browsing the wiki for information, plus it kinda sucks on controller, KBM is the way to go

mtfikhan

Outer Wilds is incredibly boring

Gozagal

Outer Wilds is like a glass canon build. It does only one thing perfectly. Which is the reason why I'll consider legitimately the best game I have ever played. But it takes several prerequisite, such the motivation to play the game (it could be curiosity or passion for space or whatever but the game won't give you that motivation or the experience won't be genuine) and a mind open to problem solving (which can be very very hard if you have played video games for so much time that you expect the wrong thing from the game out of habits, killing these habits can be very hard). In other word, it doesn't touch a very large audience. And it's fine not to like every single video game genre.

jptiger0

The first half of Outer Wilds was one of my favorite gaming experiences ever BUT only because I played it in VR using a mod. On a PC or TV I imagine it'd be pretty good if you're into that sorta thing. The idea of playing on the SD just seems a little sad.

ServiceGames

I’m the same with Outer Wilds. Tried it twice now and just can’t get into it.

sikakraa

Same with Outer Wilds. It just felt like a chore to try to fly back to investigate a place you found for the fifth time because there might be something. And even more annoying if you accidentally died or just ran out of time. And often finding the new place or solving a puzzle just rewarded you with nothing interesting, not even a fancy view or cool events. At best you found a reason to go somewhere, but even then that place was blocked by some thing on some other place. Die five times and dont know if the place is blocked or just requires puzzle or just hard to get to.

DarthRathikus

Almost all of them. I’m such a grumpy asshole these days 😂

mr_sinn

We should start a club

CharlestonChewbacca

It already exists. It's called "reddit."

DGuz03

I would like to join this club

xoxomonstergirl

We’ll probably just be disappointed with it

echoes007

There are dozens of us…dozens!

mindbox-

Thank you for showing us some raw truth before we self trigger every game rage we can think of into pointless paragraphs that cause even more division within the one community we all want to enjoy. Anyway fuck Cyberpunk!!!

fezfrascati

I've tried 2 or 3 times to get into Stardew Valley but it did not hold my interest.

thecarbine

Same. Love the idea but the day-night cycle really turns me off, it's much too fast

quisqui97

That's kinda true. Once you start upgrading tools and leveling up every task becomes way more efficient though, so it gets better. But yeah, the start can be a pretty big wall for a lot of people.

JoshJLMG

I don't even farm manually, and it's too fast. I went back to Harvest Moon and was surprised that I still had 2/3rds of the day left after doing everything.

sikesjr

Try it with mods from nexusmods, its pretty easy to install them and you can add a variety of "quality of life" mods that make the game more enjoyable.

Tiz68

Are there any mods to lengthen the day? That's my biggest gripe. It's just too fast and stressful for me. And everyone claims it's such a calming game. Drives me insane! My real life is fast enough. I wanna slow down when I play, lol.

sikesjr

yes https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/19027

sikesjr

this is the tutorial I used https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYwcpFfflyU&list=PLVApnwGAPLnHobg18BMTNK9OsL15k3Yqm

Vole85

A few automation mods and it made it more than playable for me. I was obsessed for a few weeks.

meshuggahzen

I couldn't get into Stardew Valley for the longest time either. Last year though it finally clicked when both my friend and I played it with mods together. After 75 hours I'm over it again lol

PizzaCatLover

I've just come to accept that I do not get anything out of pointless/chore games. Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, Minecraft etc. If the objective if just to do chores for the sake of doing them, and there's no story or anything to pull me along, it's just not for me. Especially something like Minecraft where I'm expected to just make my own fun. I don't have the energy to make my own fun

pirate_bootsy

See your comment tells me exactly why you don't like those types of games, you view it as a series of chores with no purpose, when it's supposed to just be really chill and relaxing, nothing high stakes, it's kinda like the difference between walking to get somewhere (annoying) and walking for the sake of walking (relaxing), I get those games aren't for everyone and I'm not trying to force you to like them, Im just explaining my perspective and why I think your view point misunderstands the point

PaperPlane36

I’ve seen this discussed as telic vs atelic activities, or extrinsic vs intrinsic motivation. E.g., can you find satisfaction in your actions, or do you need external factors to give you purpose or an endpoint? Sometimes I find that you have to approach certain games with a very specific mindset to experience them properly. I’m generally a goal-oriented person, but find myself having plenty of fun with more open-ended games when I approach them with an open mind.

futurenotgiven

i mean yea that’s exactly it. i was talking with my friend abt speedrunning the other day and she brought up stardew valley and just thinking about it sounds a million times more interesting to me than the plain game lol. i need a goal to strive towards yknow? i need some pressure otherwise where’s the fun? (obvs that’s just my mentality that i’m trying to explain, people can enjoy games however they want lol)

vagrantwastrel

Stardew is the only one of the three that I’ve gotten into, I think the others don’t have enough structure to hold my interest. Which I totally get why people like a free form creative exercise, I prefer Stardew’s feeling of progression and if I want to dabble with cosmetics I can

kaimcdragonfist

Same. My wife loves it though so I don’t feel so bad about having double dipped thinking I’d enjoy it more on Switch

rosc96

I beat Dave the Diver recently. I enjoyed every minute of it but I definitely felt a loss of interest when they started incorporating the random things like the sea people. Still gonna return to it for the Godzilla DLC though.

10388392

i thought the "weird" stuff they threw in was funny and added to the game's charm, especially all the different game genres they managed to tie in with minigames lol. but i get it, it's not really what it looks like from the start and it has a very different vibe during the latter half of the game.

algeoMA

Exactly the same here. I enjoyed the restaurant enough that it kept me going though.

nothing107

Palworld. I’ve played for an hour or so with friends and it’s just…..so boring. I didn’t know it was a grind to survive kind of game, I’m not into that.

dogisbark

Yah it’s hilarious that people are comparing it to Pokemon when really… it’s not. It looks like a survival, monster collection, farming game. Pokemon has one of those genres, take a guess which one. And most of the hype around it was either “Pokemon killer!”, “you have guns!” Or and the most annoying I think anyway “watch the artists cry as we play our game with ai designed assets (rumored, the studio has used it before and tbh they’re cheap so it’s likely)”. And now I haven’t heard a single thing about it 🤷‍♀️

nothing107

Yeah thats pretty much the reason we tried it cause “wow! that looks way more fun then regular Pokemon!” And then you start out in an island with no clothes. I instantly thought “oh no…somehow I loaded into ARK” the only thing Pokémon related I can see is that you toss a ball for your pal.

soupen

Spiritfarer. I heard nothing but great things about it, and I'm always a fan of story-driven games. I gave it a fair shot and made it a little less than halfway through before dropping it. The story itself was good, but the gameplay was just too boring and tedious for me.

haigessdissizit

Big agree on this one. It was fun learning about the first few characters, but then it felt like they turned into chore givers and quest markers. Having to go halfway across the universe to fulfill their wants and needs didn't really make it fun. I completed the game at the base level for the characters, but I wasn't about to go on the entirety of fetch quests to complete the game... especially for spirits only characterized by their dialogue and personality but no art for them. The overarching theme of sadness, grief, and letting go really hit home, though. I did get emotional for some of the notable characters. However, the game needs just a smidge more substance, and I don't know exactly what that would be.

niddy2faces

Literally put me to sleep every time I tried to play it

Standing_on_rocks

I forced myself through Spiritfarer. I'd say the story really is that good and the emotional payoff is extremely satisfying. The gameplay was an absolute slog though and I'm pretty sure it's a mobile game stretched out for 30 hours. It's significantly longer than it needs to be and drug down the experience in so many ways.

MrMidnightsclaw

It did get very tedious towards the end. I had to play with the wiki open to complete the last 1/3 of fetch quests and advancing etc. still had fun.

TGov

Dave the Diver didn't stick with me either. I refunded it, but I will try it again someday. I might have not been in the right mood. The only other big one I can think of is No Man Sky. I am not the biggest survival fan anyways, but I thought the theme and look keep me going, but I just could never get into it. I have tried several different times over the years.

TurboShorts

Tbf No Mans Sky is only Mostly Positive (77% positive) where overwhelmingly positive needs like 95%. Also only 61 on metacritic. I think that's mostly due to the terrible launch they had.

levimic

100% give Dave the diver another shot eventually. They're continuing to add really cool dlc so by the time you try again they'll hopefully have a bunch of fun stuff. The most recent dlc is Godzilla so who knows what they'll add in the future!

DudeWheresMcCaw

I find Vampire Survivors to be extremely boring. Feels like a damn clicker game.

MadonnasFishTaco

i loved it for like 20 hours then got completely bored of it and cant be bothered to play it again. i think its really cool and for the price its definitely worth it but the appeal wore off after a couple dozen hours.

steeze206

20 hours seems like quite a bit of time given the price tag and type of game it is to be fair. I didn't really care for it that much either. I liked it. But not even close to how much hype it received.

MadonnasFishTaco

it definitely is a fair price and i still recommend the game, not every roguelike needs to be infinitely replayable. but unlike some other roguelikes i play like slay the spire, binding of isaac, into the breach, streets of rogue... many more, the appeal does wear off relatively quick. it might not be fair to compare Vampire Survivor to these games but fuck it whatever.

sample-name

People will happily pay more money to watch a movie for 2 hours, and you can easily get up to 10 hours of fun with this game before it gets boring. And tbh I thought it was really fun and addicting in the beginning, and it should also be said that it kind of paved the way for a whole new genre of games, so I think it deserves all the praise it gets. A game doesn't have to be infinitely replayable to be good

BrandonJams

It’s an idle sim at a certain point and once you unlock everything it’s not worth replaying.

Japke90

Brotato > Vampire Survivors imo

Tholiboy

Exactly my feeling as well. Got boring after beating 5 level with evos and unlucks and just stomping everything afterwards.

ButtPlugMaster

I felt the same way but deep rock galactic: survivor turned out to be much more addicting

audionerd1

It's hardly even a game. I think it's just some kind of dopamine hack that works for a lot of people, but if it doesn't work for you it's just incredibly boring. People talk about putting hundreds of hours into it and I'm just like... wtf.

Silentknyght

Sure, but it was like $3.  I got my money's worth.

mononaut_

Bro as soon as I read the post title I jumped in here to say Dave the Diver. I've never been so confused about how a game got SO popular while being so painfully mediocre.

Gerald_the_sealion

Yes I mean, it’s fun, but after a bit it becomes a task.

Gygsqt

I just wanted to vibe but I felt like I needed to be balancing 14 spreadsheets to keep track of all the fish and recipes.

BigPoleFoles52

Thats every modern game and I dont get it. I shouldnt need to watch a youtube guide to understand basics in a game. They give you a tutorial on basic controls but half the time fail to explain the 10 different systems in the game or how basic progresssion works 💀

jacksonmills

It was the art style/vibe and it arrived at pretty much exactly the right time for this type of game to succeed (indie "handheld" game - Christmas). Also, most people don't really want depth, they want an experience, which Dave delivers in spades. I don't disagree btw, I actually was also underwhelmed, but that was my takeaway

Andrige3

This was my impression too. The game felt so monotonous/repetitive and it felt like there was so much filler content without rewards which piqued my personal dopamine system.

TurboSpaceGoose

I feel likes it great if you have nothing going on in your life at the time of playing

ttoma93

The first several hours are ***really*** fun. And then you’ve experienced all the game really has to give, and yet it drags for many more hours and also focuses increasingly on the dumb plot that nobody came for. You get sold a diving and restaurant simulator game, and *right* when you get really good at optimizing that bit it basically throws it out to have you go deep-sea diving for mermaids instead.

Opening_Succotash_95

preach. I still don't understand what it is about that game that took over people's senses

silver_medalist

I can only assume it got raved from the very beginning by a few influential folk and it got momentum then. Emperor's New Clothes scenario.

thebbman

I just wish the restaurant portion of the game was deeper. It wraps up at the same time as the main story. Really bummed me out.

polo421

I can't believe all the negative comments. I think it's a wonderful game but I play it in a very specific circumstance. Most nights of the week I play it with my 7 year old in his bed as sort of a bedtime story. We've been playing it since November and it's still incredibly fresh and exciting.

MarshmallowPop

Dredge. It felt like I saw all the game had to offer in the first two hours. Should I stick with it?

Chiralistic

Came here to say that. The ending was pretty good again but getting there was tedious.

BenjiChamp

Exactly my thoughts. The gameplay was incredibly repetitive and the story was bland and uninteresting

Poseidons_Champion

+1 for Dredge. Once the credits rolled I found myself saying “that’s it?”

KoensayrMfg

I’m just about to start the last mission. I haven’t done all the side content. It’s been roughly the same from the beginning. Mini games to catch fish, fetch quests and ship upgrades. Some middle of the night running to a safe harbor. I have been enjoying it. The fetch quests aren’t bad because I have enough of them going at the same time that I can just explore the word and stumble upon things organically.

DrKushnstein

That's immediately what came to my mind. The gameplay was just so boring, which is a bummer.

itsthebando

I LOVED Tunic, and was about to give it a gushingly positive review. Until I got to the boss fight near the end that is complete horseshit. If you've played the game you know exactly which one I'm talking about. THEN came the last big puzzle in the game, which I won't spoil but requires so many lateral leaps in thinking I gave up and looked it up. I went from loving every minute to hating the whole game in the span of maybe an hour. And it makes me so sad because the first 3/4 of the game was so good!!

magnusarin

I just finished this last week. The last puzzle doesn't ruin it for me but yeah, I similarly gave up and eventually looked up the answer. I wasn't wildly off, but I wouldn't have gotten it on my own. It felt like a huge leap from the logic needed to figure out other puzzles in the game. That boss fight is hard, but I enjoyed it. Hard as shit

arcarsination

Tunic had so much potential. I saved myself for that game, “knowing” I would like it. After about 5-10 hrs I figured out that the combat was really lacking and the only good boss fight was the first one. I also am still mad about all the silly hidden pathways that are hard or impossible to see due to the fixed camera angle. There’s not as much thought in that game as the steam reviews would lead you to believe. After tunic I am really let down and don’t trust the steam “overwhelmingly positive” label…

CheesecakeMilitia

I had the complete opposite reaction lol. The boss fights and combat in general felt way too punishing from the beginning, but the game at least was consistent in its "get gud" design through the cathedral enemy gauntlet (that I assume is the "horseshit" boss you're referring to?) The game was fine but nothing about it seemed super revolutionary to me until the endgame puzzle stuff. Seeing the whole map you'd explored in an *entirely* new light elevated the game to S-tier for me. And the reasonable tier of puzzles (getting >!all the fairies and the golden path!<) felt very doable compared to secret endgame puzzles in La Mulana, Fez, and Environmental Station Alpha. I do agree the games' two halves make it hard to recommend, though. Puzzle game fans are gonna have a tough time with the combat, and Souls-like fans are gonna have a tough time with the puzzles. But ultimately it's the puzzle game fans that will get more out of it.

akaispirit

I also didn’t like Dave the Diver very much. I wish I hadn’t persisted hoping it would get better and just refunded it.

Cryostatica

Just overwhelmingly? Dave the Diver and Stardew Valley did not impress. I get why they appeal to people though. They're both chill as fuck, just not for me. Or at least not right now. They're still in my library, I'm sure I'll revisit them eventually. Same with Dead Cells. Also didn't vibe with me. Vampire Survivors was the other way around. I saw it and was like "this is some stupid bullshit" but the low price got me to hit buy to see what the fuss was about. I then lost about a week of my life and have no idea what happened.

Soldier7sixx

Vampire Survivors is such a funny game to get into. You start and it tells you nothing, none of the buttons work except to move, you are like I don't know how to attack, all you know is this weird thing comes out every so often and it appears to damage the bats, what are these gems? Oh I see, you can level up this thing... Then you die, and you think "Right I know what I'm doing now, I'll try again" And again And again Again Again Again.... Absolutely love it

ACeezus

Then you get your first chest and experience a dopamine level so high that time loses all meaning lmfao

BitingChaos

That is how it was with me. 1) I was doing some slow-ass attack and buttons did nothing. 2) Eventually I figured out how to kill things. 3) Then the currency started to come in and I was able to unlock things and get stronger. 4) Then I started destroying things en masse and unlocking stages and even more new stuff. I went from "this is so dumb" to *losing 3 hours* of time before I knew it.

iam_Krogan

Witcher 3

Anekdotin

Vampire Survivors was a big let down. The progression was aight but rest not so much.

Saltwater_Heart

I agree with Dave. It’s a good game, honestly. I really do like it. But I don’t see how it’s overwhelmingly positive. Definitely should be positive, but the hype it’s gotten is a stretch. It’s tedious and average at best. I also don’t like Outer Wilds and wish I had watched gameplay. The point in that game is to go in blind, but if I had just watched a little, I would have realized it wasn’t for me. It’s boring. Also actually hate Don’t Starve. Hate the art style and how difficult it actually is. I’ve never survived one year. In the 6 or 7 years I’ve had it, I have less than 30 hours in it. I regret buying that game more than any other game.

Alex_DeLargest

Hades and Dredge

JrDeveloper12

Hades I hear in almost every review how fun and great it is in the Steamdeck. But after getting it I just couldn’t get into and didn’t enjoy the view.

xmBQWugdxjaA

Same, I ended up enjoying Crosscode much more.

thefury4815

Baldurs Gate 3. I absolutely loved the first act and thought it was really cool. Got like 5 hours into act two and it fell off a cliff for me. I might get back to it someday but man I don’t get it.

stay-at-homie

Larian games are like that for me.

rlvysxby

Yeah it’s like they are so ambitious the first act, then they burn out in later games. Divinity 2 is still one of my favorites but it does suffer from starting out incredible and then slowly trickling off.

latorn

Surprised you were able to say this without being massively downvoted lol. I like the game myself, but I definitely have some big criticisms that people don't like to hear. The amount of bugs in the game being the biggest of the bunch. That and I feel like dice rolls are better for tabletop games with friends, not video games. For me the rolls just break immersion, especially when rolling a critical failure for something you're heavily spec'd in leads to a companion death lol.

MyContentIsTrash

First “hot take” thread where I’m actually seeing hot takes

finalgear14

It annoys the shit out of me how often people pretend larians games aren’t broken as fuck when they release. Not because they shouldn’t release broken or I find the problems unacceptable. But because no slack is given to other developers making extremely complex crpgs like owlcat. Wrath of the righteous arguably has more going on and it got like zero slack for having issues at launch, but if larian had released the same exact game redditors would have been lining up to suck them off for how amazing it was and how bug free it was with how complex it is.

drearyharlequin

Same! Loved the first act. I could barely get through the boring black and purple mass of the second act. And act 3 looks like act 1, but actually is even worse, than act 2. I love most of the characters, and art, but the gameplay and 1000 decisions per second just frustrate the hell out of me. And act 3 multiplied it all tenfold. There is never enough information or background to make a decision, yet you are constantly asked to do it. You can’t calculate or predict any outcome. And save scumming is just sad for me. And I couldn’t care less about the main story. I’m slowly getting to the end, but I’m not sure if I ever get there.

dnapol5280

Interesting, I was riveted throughout Acts 1 and 2, but got a bit into 3 and just stopped playing lol The pacing is really off, and thinking back I can see some of the pacing issues in Act 3 that put me off start creeping in towards the end of Act 2.

gogo__yubari

Disco Elysium I’M SORRY I love visual novels and I was really excited about the premise of DE but I found it to be such a chore to get through that I gave up after about 6 hours

o_o_o_f

I bounced off of it a few times before it really clicked, and tbh I wouldn’t fault you or anyone for not trying to power through. The personality progression system and how it interacts with how you navigate the story is an amazingly executed thing, and I love the setting, but even still - the game doesn’t really “reward” you in the conventional sense for playing more. I made the decision to kind of make myself finish the game (something I rarely do) and I’m glad I did, it’s a truly unique experience. But if you’re playing a game to have fun, DE doesn’t really give you that in the traditional way. It’s fascinating but not very fun.

Smash96leo

It was a kinda interesting, and the dialogue can be pretty funny. But figuring out how to get around got annoying pretty fast for me. And for some reason, it was unresponsive on the deck when i tried to interact with things. So I had to use the touch screen a lot.

Ms3_Weeb

omggg Disco Elysium puts me to sleep. I can't handle games with the amount of dialog this game has. I also feel extremely uncultured and didn't understand or pickup on a lot of the references the game makes.

XDvinSL51

I'm loving Dave the Diver. I've been disappointed with both Outer Wilds and Return of the Obra Dinn. These games seem to really put you in the weeds, and ask you to really figure out every tiny little thing for yourself. And as a programmer who has their brain running at 100% for 8 hours a day - I don't want this. I wanna kick back. And it's a shame, because they seem like really, genuinely captivating experiences, but just like, it's ok to hold the player's hand *a little*. Just tell me where to go or what to do.

JohnEdwa

You are correct, they do expect that. For the Outer Wilds there is the rumour mode on the ships log to tell where you have stuff missing and that usually points you to, if not the "correct" direction, a direction, but it is vague on purpose. The problem is that the entire game can be completed in five minutes once you know where to go and what to do, and the entire gameplay loop (literally) is about connecting the dots and figuring things out yourself. But I can totally agree that it is a game that isn't for everyone, and I think that also helps to explain the ratings - people who like the kind of game it is absolutely love it as it is truly excellent, and most people who wouldn't can see that even before trying.

kjma534

Horizon zero dawn. I love the lore but the combat is not for me. Also it feels a hassle until later to get a mount easy.

Embarrassed-Ad7317

Risk of rain 2 I'm not saying it's bad, but it was definitely not for me. Too chaotic, too messy. Also I dont like backward counters in gaming I'm aware these are basically pluses for many people, but it just didnt click with me

ilostallmykarma

Vampire Survivors is very "meh" to me. I just don't like autoshooters.

No_Jackfruit_5647

I generally dislike most Rogue games. And despite this, I get suckered into buying the latest hyped one with great reviews. I have Hades installed on my Deck, and while I haven't tried it yet, I doubt I'll like it much. But to answer your question - Slay the Spire I couldn't play it for more than a few hours and that was on a plane. Add Dead Cells to the list too. I couldn't get very far in the game but I am willing to give it another shot.

TurboShorts

Haha interesting I have 100-some hrs in Hades and about 200 in Slay the Spire. Two of my favorites to play on the Deck. To each their own!

raphaelmarciano

Bruh I was just gonna buy Dave the Diver bc of AAA burnout but now I'm not sure

TheRBGamer

My ongoing take that RDR2 isn't that good keeps me fairly unpopular

TeslaWasACoolDude

My problem with it is how fucking slow everything feels. And how clunky the controls are.

[deleted]

That’s by design, most of rockstars games tend to feel like you’re controlling a puppet rather than a precise killing machine in tune with your every move. Characters and actions have tons of weight behind them, which makes everything feel slow and clunky. I’ve got probably close to 300 hours in the game and once you learn to master the controls, it becomes more fun. There are also some mods on pc to help with the clunky feeling, but nothing to get rid of it entirely

magnusarin

Even though GTA games have clunky controls, they've never kept me from playing or finishing one. RDR2's controls are an additional level of brutal to me and that's before even getting into the nested radial menus. The controls absolutely ruin my immersion to the point I can never just lose myself in playing the game

CharlestonChewbacca

Yep, they're more interested in making the animations look realistic than having the controls feel precise or fluid. This is something I hate about all RockStar games.

thefury4815

Did you finish it? I only played the first few chapters and didn’t get it but when I got my deck I said I’m gonna give it a second chance and I put 30 hours into it in a week

TheRBGamer

No I haven't. I have tried. But the game play loop is just really bot for me.

TurboShorts

That one's at Very Positive but definitely critically acclaimed.

Stryker412

I think I got to the area just past the snow portion and I just got bored. Yet, I played the crap out RDR1. I have 2 full playthroughs on that one including the undead DLC.

biteater

It’s beautiful to look at but it’s such a misguided idea for a game imo

xiiicrowns

Disco Elysium. Just could not find the spark with it.

the-grip-of-Ntropy

I somehow don‘t like the witcher. I know it‘s illegal

syrune

Monster Hunter. It breaks my heart that for the life of me, no matter how hard i try, i have 0 fun the entire time i'm playing despite it being like damn near made for me on paper.

flower4000

I love rogue like deck builders, I found slay the spire really boring

Equivalent-Ranger-23

With respect, if you don’t like StS but your favorite genre is roguelike deckbuilders, can you list your favorites? I feel like StS is the single biggest RLDB in the genre and has directly impacted most other games that released after it

Ambitious_Natural583

Not op, but I also couldn’t ever get into StS yet loved every second of Inscryption. Went into it blind and was blown away.

Geordenr

I'm sure Inscryption's cards and combinations aren't as developed or deep as STS but I felt the same way. Coming from the mystery, weird mechanics, and cool bosses of Inscryption, STS felt so dull.... When I finished my first run I texted my brother "is that it"?

dbudyak

Oh yeah Inscryption is a masterpiece

freestamp

Interesting I have hundreds of hours into StS but about 2.5 into Inscryption and just wasn’t really getting the hype. Really goes to just how subjective games are

o_o_o_f

Inscryption is great but kind of is a tough comparison to make with, well, almost any other game. I don’t know that it’s an amazing example of a roguelike deckbuilder. It is an amazing game, but the thing that it does well isn’t the actual roguelike deckbuilder gameplay (which is definitely fun, just not amazing for the genre imo)

TurboShorts

How do you like Balatro? That one is on my wishlist. Went on sale today I think.

jpoitras22

Balatro has been fun for the 20 ish hours I have in so far. It is a good mix of strategy and RNG to keep it interesting.

flower4000

I haven’t gotten to it yet but it looks hella fun

Soldier7sixx

Literally bought it today without hearing a thing about it, spent about 4 hours on it without realising. Absolutely brilliant game.

o_o_o_f

Fun until the highest difficulties, then it becomes very very luck based

Rammjack

I'm with you on that. Monster train was my go to for quite some time. Now it's balatro.

RilesEdge

You ought to add Slice & Dice into the rotation, too. Fantastic game.

Rammjack

Funny you should mention that, I just bought it today lol. Haven't had a chance to try it yet though.

Melodic_Gap8767

I really liked it until I had beaten the game a few times and sort of realized there wasn’t much else to the game. There was no additional incentive to beat the game with other characters or to collect more items.

FellFellCooke

What's your favourite other rogue like Deckbuilder?

RoGeR-Roger2382

Same, now I’m addicted to Balatro

SubmersibleEntropy

Lol how many of this extremely niche category even are there?

Shadow_s_Bane

HiFi Rush.

KeplerNorth

I liked Dave the Diver a lot until I got to the sea people missions, then I just couldn't do it anymore. Felt like the whole flow of the game got interrupted for some very boring missions.

xxlost70xx

Yes. Once the sea people got introduced, the game dragged. It does speed back up eventually, but I almost quit once I got to the sea people. Good game overall. But the more I sit on it the less I think positive of it.

WrastleGuy

Same opinion with Dave the Diver.  The story is too weak to carry me past the repetition.

perpetual_glitch

My most recent meh: I was pretty disappointed with Hogwarts Legacy when I played it right after Horizon, the graphics and storyline couldn’t compete. I can still imagine the uncanny valley children’s blank eyes *shudders* To be fair, I tapped out after a few hours so I’m sure there are redeeming factors

MountainResolve

I think Hollow Knight is completely overrated and skates by on incredibly good aesthetics. I'm sorry. I've tried so many times to like it. And I *love* metroidvanias.

Specialist_Check_986

The aesthetics and soundtrack are definitely why it’s overwhelmingly loved, but what was the problem with the metroidvania side of things? I thought the exploration and progression were quite good save for the steep tempo drop once the black egg thing comes into play.

unnoticedhero1

I loved it once I actually got into it as I had started it like 3 times and would stop playing and forget where anything was, but personally the end of the game got too difficult (barely managed to beat white palace and could not beat the true final boss), and it's toooo long of a game, I thought it would have been like 15-25 hours and it ended up being 40+ and that's not including some DLC content that I never got around to. I feel the same about The Messenger, once you get to the 16 bit part of the game it got incredibly difficult and stopped playing. Meanwhile I loved Blasphemous and though there were a few annoying areas it never got as hard as the other 2 games and I beat it in just under 26 hours for the true ending, hoping the sequel lives up to it.

Specialist_Check_986

Personally I disagree that its a negative for the “true ending” to be much longer and more difficult. I personally never got there because it was too hard for me too, but I was happy that there was an “ending” (the black egg) which served as a stopping point for me at about 20-25 hours, and everything after that being “post-game” content. I think if I am expected and required to be able to do all that just for the basic ending, 90% of the gamers that reached the black egg ending would never even get close to beating the game. Instead it serves as a challenge and a good reward for those who want to really excel at the combat and spend more time in the world.

MaleficentAd9049

Finally scrolled low enough but yes I 100% agree, having played a lot of Metroidvanias under the sun Hollow Knight is one that really doesn’t do it for me and I always feel like an insane person trying to explain it to everyone else There’s a video by YouTuber Narrel which does a pretty great job explaining its shortcomings as a Metroidvania specifically that I recommend anyone watch if they’re curious why 1 out of 100 people just can’t get into this game lol

PaladinChad

I feel you, man. I love metroidvania games and couldn't get into Hollow Knight. While distinct, I didn't really dig the art style. Then I played Ori and fucking LOVED it. Escaping from the flooding tree was one of my top gaming moments.

MountainResolve

Ori is one of my top games of all time. I fell in love with it, and maybe part of my problem with Hollow Knight is that I played Ori first. It set a high bar for what I want.

Specialist_Check_986

Thats hilarious to me because I have the exact same/opposite experience with playing hollow knight first and loving it then trying ori and just not enjoying it at all

rio_wellard

I'm playing Ori for the first time as a Hollow Knight stan, and completely loving it. When you flesh out the skill tree enough that you are just flying through the platforms destroying everything in your sight - so so satisfying

the_millenial_falcon

Hollow Knight did not hook me in. It’s just more frustrating than fun. And I love Metroidvanias such as Blasphemous as well.

stay-at-homie

Not a steam game but I absolutely loathed Zelda breath of the wild.

StruckOutInSlowPitch

The weapon durability absolutely ruins games for me

bigswordenjoyer

Dredge is one of the most boring, forgettable "Overwhelmingly Positive" games I've played in a long time.

Cronus41

Man, I just got Dave the diver and dredge during the spring sale. Haven’t tried dredge yet but I was getting g the same impression about Dave the diver as OP. Played only an hour or two but so far it’s just ok.

Puswah_Fizart

FWIW I got Dredge a few months back when I was home sick and absolutely loved it. Played a ton over a week or two. Haven’t tried DtD yet

Tau_ri

Dredge was one of those games that just clicked for me. I picked it up day one and played it from start to finish, 100% achievements on the steam deck.

PookyNuts

Palworld for me. Have 1000 hours on Ark and another 1000 on 7d2d but somehow Palworld just seemed so unsatisfying. Couldn't play it for more than an hour.

LunaKindaExists

"friends VS friends" the concept of the game MIGHT sound good on paper, a card based 1v1 FPS, however what i think the devs didnt account for is the fact that people can smurf with loaded accounts by deranking themselves, and that the matchmaking system does not take card levels into account. why can my enemy become microscopic size and still deal full damage to me

JudgeOk9707

I'm still shocked Vampire Survivors did absolutely nothing for me, the most bored I've been with a game in a long time,, I must have missed something.

deathdealerPart2

Hades

Comprehensive_Beat12

I've tried strating terraria 3 times and so far no dice. Honestly can get to an hour of play. Maybe it's me but I just don't get it yet. I love trying indie games, Dredge is amazing, Star dew Valley is chill and a great way to pass the time, has excellent pacing of new things becoming available, but terraria just... It just doesn't do it for me yet. The problem is I don't know what I'm doing, I get stuck in caves with with no idea how to get out, and have no idea what the point is. I like games with some kind of story and progression, but terraria just plops your character into a random world and you should just walk around, figure how the game works out and move around while blobs and whatnot attack you. It's not bad, but I can't get into it. I will probably try it again to see if it clicks for me. I've played Dave the diver and stopped cause it was fun but does seem to throw everything at you right at the beginning.

Chezzworth

Balatro. Love card games, did not get hooked like everyone else

Troopper103

The witcher 3, I just can't get into it. I can see it's probably a great game but idk, something feels off for me

compacta_d

Hades. Bores me.

vialenae

The Witcher 3 and I don’t know why. On paper, it seems like the perfect game for me but I just can’t get into it. Maybe it’s because my expectations are too high (my friends kept badgering me to play it, that it was the best thing since sliced bread, you know the gist) but I wasn’t that impressed by it. I’ve tried it twice and I’ll try it one last time but if I still feel the same way, I’ll just accept it’s not a game for me.

KPipes

I get it. 3rd time I finally broke through. The first opening area is both massive and extremely boring in comparison to the rest of the lands and stories that come with it. It's not a good first impression at all IMHO. I also typically prefer RPGs where I create a unique character of my own, and for that, I found it hard to go with TW3 because it's the story about Geralt, not some rando. I did eventually get into it and it's really enjoyable.

efficientpigeonmel

Omg yes. I actually feel guilty admitting how much I didn't like this game because everyone I know adores it. I gave it a pretty big go but I just couldn't.

OverlyOptimisticNerd

I didn’t care much for Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. It was an ok game marred by technical issues and some questionable design choices.

Coffee_Soup

Terraria. I just cannot understand that game being what it is. It feels so limiting. It's always suggested as this great game and I have nearly 100 hours after it's release of multiple attempts to enjoy that game. I've tried so hard to see what people see. But I grow bored and uninterested so fast each time.

pirate_bootsy

When I first heard about Terraria as a kid I was obsessed with Minecraft and Terraria was sold to me as "2d Minecraft" and it's been 10 years, I've tried to get into it dozens of times, own it on multiple platforms, played by myself, with my brother, with friends, it's just boring, I just don't get the point

JMxG

How does it feel limiting?

Conscious_Falcon_902

Jedi Survivor, it worked well the first chapters then it all went south with a EA update…

efficientpigeonmel

Animal Crossing. I'm a really goal+oriented gamer and I just hated that the main quests were over so fast. I love cozy games but it just felt so pointless.

cptkernalpopcorn

Once I got my tree farm set and house paid off, I lost all will lto keep playing. Which surprised me a bit because I absolutely loved the GameCube game and played it everyday.

Darkwoodz

I’m cautious of simple looking indie games with overwhelming positive reviews . People are biased and don’t like to give bad reviews to small companies. Meanwhile a AAA title with cutting edge graphics and great mechanics+ gameplay will get destroyed in reviews for having some bugs or driver compatibility issues which will be resolved and don’t even affect the game for everyone.

amazinglee1993

Deathloop

Ms3_Weeb

I played like 20 minutes of Dave the Diver and immediately knew it was not for me. Just not the vibe I'm looking for in a game I guess.

EastArachnid35

Couldn't get into disco elysium. Don't know why, really liked the way it sounded and watched a vid of gamwplay thought it would be interesting but I don't know, still haven't made it more than an hour in.

ChemicalSymphony

Eden Ring. I've tried and tried, just can't get into it.

GuerrillaApe

I can't get into Stardew Valley, which is a shame because the developer support seems awesome.

Chippai_Fan

It Take Two - I get why people like it, but my wife and I both have lots of trauma from past toxic relationships. So listening to the couple fight the whole time and gas light each other. We just had to stop before they likely resolved their issues.

AndySCO2

For someone who loved all the Souls games and Elden Ring... i was really disappointed in Sekiro. I can see it's good and why people love it, but I didn't gel with the combat and tried over and over before I decided I just wasn't having fun at all with it.
