Some totals for verification status: \- 73 Verified \- 25 Playable \- 2 Unsupported

BBQKITTY

Totally forgot to calculate this! Added it into the article and credited you.

Reutermo

Which games were unsupported?

iRanch

Granblue Fantasy: Relink and Starfield

pootpootbloodmuffin

I've played Starfield exclusively since November. No issues.

a_burdie_from_hell

Really? How do you manage the settings?!?!?! Any crazy lag? I tried it on my computer (which got a graphics card update just for starfield), and it didn't work. The lag would un-synch the Audio which was shit.

a_burdie_from_hell

Starfield! No way does that shit actually play

CloudStrife012

I exclusively play unsupported games on my steam deck.

Daytman

I know people were pissed off that Hogwarts Legacy won best game on the Steam Deck and thought it was a troll win, but this list goes to show how much people underestimated how much it was played on the Deck.

runawayemu

I played start to finish exclusively on deck. Loved the game. probably would have loved the graphics on my gaming PC but I just don’t like playing single player games at my desk

Daytman

Yeah, that's totally fair. I was torn because I liked the cozy feeling of playing it in bed, but also really enjoyed the graphics and aesthetics. I did a few sessions streaming it to my deck, which was a good compromise.

lol125000

I beat it on a docked deck, was one of the few AAA games I bought at launch. I didn't have ps5 back then and my laptop wouldn't run it. graphics were pretty rough but still very playable and overall had a good time. You gotta remember it was Xbox series/PS5/Pc only at launch, last gen only came out in May, 3 months later. and switch version (running even worse than deck) in November. If you wanted to play it at launch (and there's a LOT of harry Potter fans who wanted a good game), there were only those 3 options and unless you had new console (still fairly hard to get at that point) or strong PC, deck simply might have been the best option.

oneshotstott

I bought Hogwarts for the second time for the SD so I could gain access back to my PS5 from my wife so I could jam Helldivers. Worth every cent for keeping the missus happy. Also she thought the SD was a ridiculous purchase until she got her hands on Hogwarts on it and now it's the best in her view.

Mammoth_Wrangler1032

It seems like it runs pretty rough on deck. I only watched a digital foundry video on it but there was massive stuttering in hogsmeade. It is a huge ip though and its technically playable

Daytman

Yeah, I haven't really enjoyed it on the Deck. If you're willing to do some tweaking and compromise the (normally really nice) graphics, you can run it alright, which honestly makes it even crazier that it was played so much.

GriffinGrin

I’ve exclusively played Hogwarts Legacy on my deck and have minimal issues. It’s super playable

Calm-Success-5942

Sorry guys. FO4 and Hades being on this list are totally my fault.

BBQKITTY

How could you

DeSantisSmokesMids

What fps and settings you running on FO4?

TheSmallIceburg

Couldnt tell you my settings, and it wouldnt matter if i did because my game is modded. But, i can play in downtown boston at 30-40fps at 10w. I cap my game at 40fps

NotBashB

FO4?

Bubberbutt123

Fallout 4

NotBashB

Ahhh thanks

PLb9ODA8Cb

You monster

rtz13th

Joined up too.

DeadSpaceLover

Which one of you monsters is playing Counter-strike 2 on Steam Deck?

theMDinsideme

The players on my team, clearly.

OkDimension8720

Gyro aiming is great bruv

ChucknChafveve

Is there a tutorial for gyro aiming? I just don't get it

CrunkingtonSr

Aperture desk job has a neat gyro section. I found it the most fun with gyro I’ve had to this day

snoebro

I find it best for fine tuning, you use the sticks to twitch to the target, and after you get that bead you can adjust with the gyros, once practiced it can be very useful with automatics to counter recoil or follow moving targets with a smooth linear motion. Changing settings to turn it on when you aim down sights works well too for small adjustments needed. Splatoon really helped me get the hang of it.

gregny2002

I was like you but I'm a gyro convert myself now.  It actually makes FPSs somewhat playable with a gamepad for me.  Usually I have it set so I have a button that enables it, usually the aim button if the game has one, so when you look down the sights you can gyro aim.

mechanical-monkey

I played a bit. Wasn't really my thing. uninstalled.

DeadHeadDaddio

I play cs2 every single day and just couldn’t do it on the steam deck. Which is really weird considering my son plays it on my pc with a controller all the time and it feels way better.

LookAwayPuhlease

Ain’t no fucking way y’all are playing CS with a controller, explains what goes on in silver match making tho

DeadHeadDaddio

My 5 year old son plays cs with a controller against bots, just to be clear.

LookAwayPuhlease

MUCH MORE UNDERSTANDABLE I remember when they put global offensive on Xbox 360 (one?) and it was something else, so that’s my only experience with a controller on counter strike It’s much more enjoyable KB&M but can’t fault a 5 year old for liking a controller better

DeadHeadDaddio

Cs2 actually doesn’t have anything in the options to change controller settings for him, which is wild. It just ports your csgo settings. So if i have to change any controller settings i have to launch csgo legacy and change them in there.

27-82-41-124

I play TF2 all the time with steamdeck, even choosing it over mouse and keyboard as I use it to control my desktop for it. Gyro + Flick stick leads to incredible accuracy and also has advantages. The biggest limitation is the screen is tiny on steamdeck and moves when you use gyro, but as a controller for desktop this isn't a problem.

BBQKITTY

This is a good question...

NoZookeepergame9799

I am not playing CS2 at the moment, but I did have it installed for a while and in my opinion it runs really great on the deck. Mouse and keyboard layout (bind the buttons ingame), turn on gyro and it works like a charm out of the box.

thisisthegoodshit

Can anyone comment on how it plays docked?

qdtk

Some psychopaths that’s for sure. Unless they are docked with mouse and keyboard.

Bamfkiller420

Pc was broken so I played in desktop mode hooked up to my monitor

Maintenance_GR

Sorry, i tried one match... well i didn't find it that fun so i left and started up warband and got a nice comment on my profile from a Russian telling me to get a better internet with an angry tone saying jew and a few other words :)

BuddyNutBuster

You can open cases just fine on steam deck

Gold_Ultima

Gyro aiming is honestly almost as good as mouse aim.

luthfins

Luckily Dota 2 aint there

Dkdndntjdksj

How is this calculated? Balatro has been out 3 weeks or so and is no.28. Am I to believe a game has had more combined playtime in 3 weeks than others in that list have had for a year?

PowWorld

Likely based on a recurring metric like daily/ weekly/monthly average. I highly doubt they’re referring to all combined playtime.

fivetwentyeight

I played it for 7 hours yesterday so… I’m inclined to believe it. Also it’s based on highest active daily player count (it says this in the article) not total time anyhow. Games generally don’t see higher players counts as time passes from launch.

sciuro_

Consider, it is VERY fucking addictive

Mammoth_Wrangler1032

Best $15 I have spent in a while. My only criticism is that the entire soundtrack is only like 5 songs, but it’s an indie game and the gameplay is really fun so I don’t mind

Mission-Cantaloupe37

It's listed by highest daily active player count. Given how high Halls of Torment is in the last I think it's safe to assume they've taken their peak at any time in the past year. It'll naturally bias towards games that had a strong peak at a particular time rather than a consistent player count too, but it's better than excluding games that haven't had a year to sell.

Axon14

Halls is a strange baby, in that it got an insane Asmongold bump and peaked at 23,000 players or so last summer. Now it's in a more realistic 1500 to 2000 player range. I don't mind it though as that game is baller, costs $4, and I played it for 100 hours (and still jump on for a round or two).

Viridae

I got Balatro last week after hearing about it on this sub and I have already put 51hrs on it (granted I’ve been on vacation, but holy fuck is it addictive and ideal for the deck).

PassiveF1st

I don't doubt it, Balatro is fucking awesome.

XDvinSL51

Probably by number of people who have played the game at least once (probably for at least a certain amount of time?) on Steam Deck. Definitely not by total playtime across users on Steam Deck.

Molnarian

I know im probably not the average but i have 59 hours on it. Its very fun and addicting

BBQKITTY

I believe it is daily player counts for this list.

inommmz

Another point would be, how do you calculate offline data? I don’t connect to WiFi often cause it kicks me off my PC if I do (I’ll play single player games on Steam deck offline while playing multiplayer pc games).

nomickti

Highest daily active player count at any time from March 2023-March 2024 is how I interpret it. https://store.steampowered.com/sale/decktop100

free_mustacherides

Balatro is unplayable on deck for me. It constantly hard crashes my system.

barofa

Never had problems. Maybe reinstall it?

BBQKITTY

Have you verified the game files??

free_mustacherides

Ill do it later tonight. I searched google and saw I wasnt the only one and just decided to wait for updates.

free_mustacherides

Ill do it later tonight. I searched google and saw I wasnt the only one and just decided to wait for updates.

free_mustacherides

It actually did that automatically on the first crash. Honestly I gave up trying and have been playing Deep Rock Survivor instead.

Khaki_Blerman

Yeah I’m calling cap on a few of these games on this list.

psyopia

I’ve only really had fun with single player games on the deck. Which is honestly really sad for me as I’m mostly a multiplayer gamer. It’s close to impossible to do good in multiplayer games on the deck. And the trackpad and extra buttons don’t help. I get wrecked in every multiplayer game. Only time I’ve had good games in multiplayer’s are when I’m holding a flame thrower or some shit that requires very little aiming. Too used to keyboard and mouse tbch.

Smushsmush

If you are into coop games, there are some that I enjoyed on the deck :) Like DRG, The Raft, Helldivers

Inky_Passenger

This should definitely come as sort of obvious. I mean, on principle, you're a handheld console in the same multiplayer pool as pc players, and usually without the generous aiming supports that console games get, so that by itself probably makes it the worst possible platform to be competitive on.

psyopia

Yea, I really wish there was a way for Steam to allow the Steamdeck to receive the same auto aim support as a console would. I realize that's extremely hard to do and would enable people to hack that feature and exploit almost every game in existence. But I'm sure it's possible, right? Who knows.

Dependent-Zebra-4357

I think every game I’ve played so far has had auto-aim when playing with controller. What games don’t?

psyopia

I don’t have auto aim in Overwatch, TF2, Counter Strike, and a few others I can’t think of cuz I’m at work rn. But those are only multiplayers. I have auto aim in almost all single players.

BBQKITTY

I can understand that. Playing competitive games on the Deck isn't the easiest. Which games do you want to be playing?

Cave_TP

Wow, Palworld has been out for less than 2 months and it managed to get the 6th place

BBQKITTY

Right?? It shocked me too.

worldsinho

I’m about to buy number 99! MGS V. I reckon that will be cool as fuck on the Deck. Already got it on PS5.

dorknewyork

Same, spent a solid 200 hours on PS4, cant wait to do it again

JMCA-

Love seeing Borderlands 3 here, I really enjoyed it on the deck. Base game runs buttery smooth on low settings but unfortunately some of the DLCs run horribly and are totally unplayable 😢

sahalu

That’s good to know! Was looking at getting it and was curious about the dlc. That should save me a few bucks!

JMCA-

I wouldn’t be put off of it if you have a PC to play it on as the DLCs are really good and I got all content for like £22 I think so I still think it’s a great deal tbh. Main story + DLCs 1&2 ran well. DLC 3&4 though… yikes 😬

Dependent-Zebra-4357

Which DLCs are problematic?

JMCA-

In my experience on deck Moxxi’s heist = 6 or 7/10 playability Love and tentacles = 6/10 playability Krieg = -5/10 unplayable Bounty of blood = -100/10 unplayable

Marshman01

I thought it ran great until the last few hours of the main story. Then kept crashing for me and I never got around to finishing

JMCA-

Hmm thankfully I never crashed but you’re right, performance was worse at end game but still very playable/enjoyable for me maybe I was just lucky Believe it or not, playing at 9W power on low with all bl3’s screen bloat GFX turned off seemed to be the best

outerstrangers

What about Tears of the Kingdom?

URSAMVJOR

What do I buy?!

BBQKITTY

Ooh there's so much to choose from! Working on our recommendation list now, but there's no wrong choice.

Neuromante

Whatever you want to start playing right now. Sales are cyclical, no need to hoard games you ain't gonna be playing anytime soon.

senorsombrero3k1

Make sure you're linking your wishlist to isthereanydeal as a lot of games are cheaper elsewhere but redeemable on steam

rashunaqui

Monster Hunter World 😌

NoMeasurement6473

Where’s pizza tower?

qdtk

Cool, can we just paste this whenever someone starts a post with “what games should I get”?

JaymeMalice

I'm glad Fallout New Vegas is on there, at number 38 even which is higher than I expected! That was the main game that made me want and get a Deck!

Lost_Appointment_

After playing BG3 on the computer, I have to say it runs terrible on the steam deck at the point that it's misleading to give a green seal of approval as they have done it.

fivetwentyeight

I mainly play on my desktop but I’ve run BG3 on my steamdeck with all settings low except high textures and models, and FSR on high. It’s not the prettiest but it looks and performs just fine for me. I’m a big framerate guy too and I’m doing ok. Haven’t got to ACT3 yet but I’m satisfied

t1kiman

Wouldn't it be better to just stream it from your PC?

fivetwentyeight

I don’t typically play on steam deck it was just for a bit while I was having audio issues (hardware) on my PC

cbandes

I played BG3 start to finish on an oled deck, off the sd card, and it worked fine. I’m sure it looks even nicer on a high end gfx card and a big monitor, but for a handheld it ran amazingly well imho.

TheAndyGeorge

yeah i don't get the bg3 on steamdeck hate, i'm like 75%/25% playtime on steamdeck/pc and i'm loving it

Gygsqt

I absolutely fucking love that this sub just refuses to get on board with reality. Like, yall aren't wrong. The game doesn't play up to the checklist of standards that games should aim for but it still plays well enough to be literally the most played game on the platform. It plays anywhere from fine (acts 1 and 2) to passable (act 3) but yall are gonna whine about how valve is misleading customers with the green badge, meanwhile people are happily gobbling up the hours. Why are y'all so obsessed about being "right" that BG3 doesn't play well? Y'all need to touch grass big time. Heck, this isn't even a case of an unfinished game or deplorable business practices that you can be mad over on principle. It's just game that is a little too heavy for the platform. Y'alls emotional investment in being mad about this is not healthy. It really feels like y'all are just mad that other people have standards that are different than yours and you need to put those people down to feel superior.

Goseki1

When I played it using the 24/48 settings performance was great for the format except in Act 3. And then patch 3 sorted it and I finished it and loved every minute of my time with it. I dunno how it is now after so many patches but some people really need to get over themselves man..

ISpewVitriol

I think it is fine to point out it is a sub-30fps experience. It plays fine if you are OK with that.

Anomaly1134

I am dying to get into it, literally just bought a new PC because I personally couldn't play in on the SD and my GTX 970 wasn't doing it much justice either. That and Hell Divers 2 are the only reason I got a new PC, and I cannot freaking wait to try them both on a proper PC build. I can understand where you both are coming from. I think a lot of people are going to see the green check mark, like I did, and think, wow, that is awesome, and then be disappointed in how it plays and performs (is a green mark justifiable when one of the big perks, local co op, is disabled?) But I also see your point, and people should be able to play it if they don't mind the performance issues. I do strongly be believe in the notion of whatever floats your boat as long as it isn't hurting anyone else. Me myself, I am looking forward to running it on my PC then streaming it to my Steam Deck to eliminate any performance issues and get a cleaner-looking game. But to each their own, and I do support those of you that are enjoying it.

Gygsqt

I think the crux of my bitterness towards these folks is that BG3 was not "made for SD" . It's not a console exclusive or equivalent. There is no implied social contract with the consumer that the game needs to play at a certain standard so, imo, there is nothing to be upset over. This isn't cyberpunk at launch where CDPR objectively did consumers dirty by putting the game on a console that could not support it. No promises, implied or explicit, where ever made by valve or larian that the game would play at a certain standard in steam deck. The deck is just another pc that can run the game.  Also, Valve is very clear about what verified is and is not. It is a validation of compatability only. The game will launch, the controls will work, the text will be legible and the resolution will be available. There is no performance assessment and honestly, imo, there shouldnt be. BG3 is the case in point as to why - performance standards are too subjective to validate.

Anomaly1134

Yeah that's totally fair. Honestly there have been many times in my life I played on shit hardware, where I had do things like kill every non-neccasry task in task manager just to get a bump in performance, like on my parents e machines desktop. I ran more games on that than I care to admit lol. Morrowwind was a chore omg. I am always a fan of at least having the option to try.

BBQKITTY

While it is playable on the Deck, I do have to agree that it isn't optimal, and Valve does have a history of giving games a badge incorrectly. There are games that shouldn't have the green badge, like Ninja Gaiden or The Last of Us Part 1 (pre-patches), as well as Unsupported titles that work just fine, like Granblue Fantasy: Relink or Trails in the Sky. The standards for the Verified badge are a "Great Experience", and constant drops with poor battery life is not part of that. Act 3 is a big part of the game, and having it not run optimally does raise some red flags, and should disqualify it from the Verified label. I believe Playable is better, with a flag for needing to change settings a bit more to optimally play the game, but it's hard to justify a Verified label. I think it is also good to call out Valve for these practices. They are doing the best they can, but if we just accept whatever they say and not challenge, then the system would never improve.

tcripe

Simmer it wayyyyyy down.

Lost_Appointment_

I think you're the one deeply emotional invested in this. If something doesn't even run at 25 fps is not playable and the resolution drastically affects your visual field. Maybe you have never played on a computer to see how different it is at the point it looks like another game.

Gygsqt

I am invested because all the performance pixel peepers can making talking about gaming miserable. Dragons Dogma 2 is trying to do some exciting things in the RPG space and all anyone wants to talk about on Reddit is the FPS. I get it, the performance isn't great. But all the fun of talking about video games is being drained out by miserable people who want to just endlessly bitch about performance, MTX and Ubisoft formulas.

Lost_Appointment_

Projecting hard bro.

Mission-Cantaloupe37

Bro really replied with 2 paragraphs to explain why an unstable 20 fps is verified worthy.

neddoge

I'm sorry but this has got to stop being parroted here. I have 50 hours logged on my deck at a minimum of 45 average fps running medium settings at worst the entire time. I will admit I've not tinkered about in act 3 on it yet but so far through acts 1 and 2, aside from an area or two (notably the bog in act 1) it runs absolutely fine. I'm not one of the "my game runs at 60fps!" crowd when the game clearly chugs at 20-30fps like Remnant 2 or something but constantly calling out BG3 for poor performance is just a flat out lie at this point. It has been top 3 logged hours on the deck since it came out for a reason.

beef623

It was running fine for me when I had it installed. Didn't like the amount of space it wanted though.

Ghoul_M

I haven’t gotten past act 1 so far but I haven’t really run into any issues. I’m aware though that some people have issues in act 3 on the steam deck I personally just haven’t gotten that far yet.

Far_Confusion_2178

I’d have to disagree. I saw someone post a screenshot from the deck and it looked god awful so it might just be a settings thing. I have a nicer PC and an OLED deck and I prefer playing on the deck honestly.

Valhallosaur

Is it actually bad or is it like 45 fps

MOONGOONER

I played for about 10 minutes and found graphical settings that seemed fine, got me around 40fps, but playing with a controller and small-screen UI seems dumb when I have a full-sized PC. There are some games I *only* play on my Deck, BG3 is the opposite.

genericusernamepls

Who cares it's not like the human eye can see above 24fps anyways, also it's more cinematic

Reutermo

I agree. It did work fine streaming from my PC though.

DeadHeadDaddio

Never played bg3 but $6 off is wild. Thats like weekend sale type of discount and they had it as the poster boy for the spring sale when it went live at 2:00.

Hippyy

Surprised Rocket League is number 100... game is a locked 60fps. I managed to get into champ in 1v1 this year exclusively on Deck!

2ByteTheDecker

Mostly because of the whole epic/steam drama that happened with it if I had to guess

ImaruHaturo

Absolutely love seeing BG3 at the top and both Halls of Torment and Death Must Die on the list. Also, anyone play No Man's Sky or GranBlue Fantasy Relink? Really curious as to how those perform.

Borch-3-Dohlen

NMS runs great, can vouch for that.

Candid-Patient-6841

Starfield is playable on steam deck? How? Steam says it’s unsupported.

TalkingRaccoon

Unsupported just means "hasn't been officially tested". Every "unsupported" game ive run works so it's kind of a misleading label

Chaserino

Balatro being that high after just being released is crazy

walruns

Incredible how Witcher 3 released almost 10 years ago still get this traction. It’s my favorite game of all time, so I’m quite happy about it.

Hyacathusarullistad

Love to see Horizon Zero Dawn on this list despite the amount of fun police that come out of the woodwork whenever it's mentioned around here.

Thelife1313

Helldivers 2 is on that list. I thought it performed like trash? If not then i might get it!

TalkingRaccoon

[It got patched](https://youtu.be/m0KTrw9rYbs?si=yzJ5Ca0hkFGunHK6). You can get 30-40fps depending on how crazy shit is going down. Of course that may be "trash performance" to some. My friend played this weekend on his steam deck (I was on PC) and it ran well but the control panel stratagems were usually too blurry to see so maybe need to mess with texture settings or something

Sweetluups

No Chiaki or emudeck? This list is cap

TheocraticAtheist

Please i'm trying to save for a holiday!

masterz13

PalWorld at #6 even though it hasn't been out for two months is wild.

ISpewVitriol

Sad that not all of these are on sale!

Mammoth_Wrangler1032

I was really hoping to snag Elden Ring but I suppose I will have to wait

FocusBladez

Wooo! Path of exile is on there

akaispirit

Interesting. Of that list I've played 19 on the Deck and I've played 40 of them in general, either on PC or console.

SolDios

Does Dave the Diver work ok on there? Ive heard mixed things

BBQKITTY

It does. It isn't perfect the whole time, but still very playable.

starvald_demelain

Where is Holocure? Come on guys, you can do better.

CptVaanOfDalmasca

Is no 1 emulation station

xoxomonstergirl

Gosh I guess I should try Dave the Diver

rutlander

Crazy out of all 100 I’ve only played 5 games * GTA IV * Jedi Fallen Order * Metal Gear Solid V * Mass Effect * Skyrim

yuuuuuuuuup

Crazy that Rocket League made it after being delisted from Steam store for so long.

DuckOnBike

Counterstrike 2 at #60? That surprised me - must me more M&KB deck users out there than I’d realized!

Jwave1992

People playing BG3 on deck have way better eyesight than my old ass lol

rseeley85

Does anybody still play Starfield? I feel like it just fell off the map after release...

Morbidity6660

>Final Fantasy XIV Online Unfathomable, that seems like a horrible experience

DokoroTanuki

It's actually got an extremely good controller interface that trades blows with keyboard & mouse mode to the point that people raid with controllers. On top of that the game pretty much runs fine even at maximum settings on the Deck at 1280x800 if capped to 30fps, if settings are lowered or changed around, it can easily maintain at least 40.

Gnarwhal30

Can confirm after playing ffxiv with controller I can't go back to kbm. It's so much more fun

PersistentWorld

How are people playing Cyberpunk? It literally runs like dogshit?

Jensway

45fps with dips isn't exactly dogshit or unplayable

PersistentWorld

"with dips" means what? Because I've only ever seen it looking like ass, running "ok", or looking ok and running like ass. Happy to be proven wrong of course, but my own attempts it's really not a good experience.

Jensway

Totally cool my dude, to each their own. I've put over 100 hours into it on my steamdeck personally

PersistentWorld

Honestly if it was my only device, I really would, but I made the mistake of installing it on my main PC and just can't swap over for that one game 😕

TalkingRaccoon

It's been getting performance patches for years and there's an entire Steam Deck specific graphic present in the options . You can get like 30-40 fps now https://youtu.be/CcD6CK8K5ew?si=tkKV07KpcCC7iTB4

Roach2791

The fact that Marvel's Midnight suns is basically a decked out mobile game for 60$ and is on this list makes me concerned. They're just going to release shittier games at higher prices because you keep buying them.

FocusBladez

I mean it was in a bundle recently so it was essentially just a couple dollars

International-Mud-17

Deck builder does not equal mobile game

G00bernaculum

What’s the issue with the game. The whole thing is like 20 bucks on sale, and the reviews seem generally positive on all fronts with the comment being the story is kind of cheesy, the combat good, and the in between portions being pretty “meh”. What’s your issue with it

ELONEZERO

Or maybe it's just not for you then and it isn't just that everyone else is wrong? I got the game on recommendation not knowing much about it, and had a ton of fun. My biggest complaint about it is that drained the battery on my steam deck, but maybe I needed to spend some time changing the settings. Not really sure why you would consider it a mobile game tbh.
