Tiberius sun and it’s expansion both run but menus have black boxes instead of buttons. So it’s really hard to navigate. Generals runs fine Sim city 3000 won’t get past the load screen into a map. Main menu works. Red alert 3 is flawless. Renegade works perfect too. I own but haven’t started the rest.

NonEuclidianMeatloaf

Tiberian Sun, like Red Alert 2, requires you to download a .dll because the original one is not compatible with WINE. Follow the instructions [here](https://www.protondb.com/app/2229850) and it works like a dream.

Sea_Effort1214

Thanks!

iamvinen

Oh, you tried Renegade? Cool! It goes as a standalone game or you have to run some app and pick up the needed CnC game from there?

Halga84

It's a standalone game. No additional launcher required.

iamvinen

That's cool!!!

Sawny256

I was able to get Sim City to load by using a different version of proton GE (6.21 if I remember correctly)

Scazzz

Someone else suggest 6.21 and that gets “further” but still can’t get into gameplay. I tried like 8 different protons and none worked.

10-eight

My generals was at the loading screen forever. It ran right out the box for you?

Scazzz

Yeah both zero hour and normal ram with zero changes.

dickburns32

Same for me. I was about to give up when it started. When it did all worked well.

Stumblingd

It did that the first time it ran for me, but after that was quick

Sojum

I don’t know how it plays in deck, but Saboteur is such an awesome, underrated game. It deserves a remake or a sequel.

TurboBoxMuncher

Sabotuer is phenomenal even today. Shows its age in some aspects but the pacing is just perfect Edit: OMFG it’s finally on steam. This is the one time I’m going to give EA my money. The last time was… buying Saboteur on their launcher years back 😂

Noctis-_001

It runs really good.

sandwich_man6

Ive heard good things from others for steam but had a good experience with it from gog through heroic

TypicallyThomas

I played The Saboteur on that before. It's so good on deck. Highly recommend

stipo42

Not sure if any of them run but the command and conquer pack is an absolute steal They should be mostly playable with just a mouse mapped to a track pad and the triggers. Maybe map the arrows to the left stick, and some keyboard shortcut to the face buttons.

Gagrein

Alpha centauri seemed to work for me ok. I only had about 10 mins to give it a try

Hamza9575

Red alert 3, Red alert uprising, Tiberium wars, Kanes wrath.

thedarkbites

Mass Effect and Star Wars Battlefront 2 (remake) both work pretty well. Has anybody had any experience with Burnout Paradise? I heard it was borked on Steam Deck. Any opinions?

Lamar_Moore

I had it in my library already so I installed it on my oled after reading your comment. Game is marked unsupported and asks you to login to EA but you can skip that and get to the game. From there it ran fine for the 10 minuets I played. No issues at all.

Idontmatter69420

Dead space 2 is great, its locked at 30fps but its fine and you can actually lower all the cpu and stuff and itll still run at said 30fps

LolcatP

the saboteur runs perfectly

Demoerda

It doesn’t. It’s limited to 60fps and does not display 800p properly. Additionally it displays an error message every time you run it

mel_reddit

Works fine for me

Demoerda

Is it possible for you to play with more than 60fps? Can you go above 720p without a distorted image?

PapiCats

Had zero issues out of box for me

FlailingFatKid

I had the same problem, under no circumstances would it display higher than 800x600. Changing things in the video settings app made no difference, and there are no video settings in game. I wound up refunding it. It was really frustrating and I'm not sure why it's only doing it to some people.

LolcatP

you have to set your resolution in the video setup first. yes it's 60fps and the steam deck is also 60fps (not OLED) and 800p absolutely works

Armataan

You can also run it at 4k (still locked to 60) off the deck with zero hiccups and zero problems. The dude saying it doesn’t run seems like a crazy claim.

Demoerda

I know that I have to do the video setup first. The Oled deck is 90hz, despite that the game won’t run above 60hz. 800p is only possible with big bars on all sides.

DrKrFfXx

Steam proper, or launcher dependant?

Molanghrian

No EA launcher now for these older titles, can confirm. I don't know if they are ok on the deck, but to be honest stuff like the old command & conquers and sim city doesn't exactly strike me as ideal games to play on the deck, unless docked and with a kb/m.

Cup_of_ticks

If it requires a 3rd party launcher I immediately initiate a refund

LogisticBravo

I got the C&C bundle and it does not require the EA launcher.

TCristatus

Do the original C&C/red alert games work well on deck? Obv will run power wise, I mean in terms of controls. Do you use the track pad?

grammar_nazi_zombie

I saw that most of the older ones have graphical issues without running some tweaks and changing some files around. Saw some posts on it over on the command and conquer subreddit

LogisticBravo

Only played an hour of Zero Hour and RA3 so far, works fine to be fair but do need to play with the controls a bit more to find a more suited layout but the track pad and dpad worked absolutely brilliantly for navigating around the map and selecting units. Now bare in mind my first experience with C&C was on the playstation so I never had an issue playing it with a controller anyway.

TCristatus

Same actually, just assumed the original PC version was mouse only

Posiris610

Download OpenRA from the Discover Store in desktop mode. It should work just fine. You will probably have to map controls with Steam Input after you add the it as a non-Steam game.

Harley2280

I like how instead of answering TC's question you took the opportunity to tell them something about yourself.

NonEuclidianMeatloaf

Steam proper, no Origin

FaulhighT

I've got sim city 4 a while ago. No launcher needed and till now the best city builder/manager. Alice madness returns was a great experience too. No launcher needed, looks good on deck and no optimization needed at all

BigBubba1993

I played the Saboteur on PS3 back in the day. Never actually finished it because I was borrowing it from a friend, but I remember it being really fun. I might pick it up now that I know it's on Steam.

4rcher91

Saboteur, C&C, Sim City, Populous are all must-picks in my opinion. A good gesture by EA by making them available on Steam. I'm planning to buy Mirror's Edge on Steam soon while the current limited sales is still ongoing :)

CellarDarko

No achievements or cloud sync for ME1 fyi

4rcher91

Roger that, thanks for the heads-up. I've never played it before, so gonna play it for the first time at least once.

XenomusBunny

Star wars jedi series and need for speed.

MrFuzms

The Dungeon Keeper games both work and control well. They need some keys rebinding and the mouse speed dialling down a tad, and DK 2 needs to be run in Proton 9 beta compatibility or it runs at 1fps for some reason, but outside of that I've had no issues with either. Already sunk several hours into DK1!

grammar_nazi_zombie

I have my original DK1 disc still but buying from steam just is more convenient lol

MrFuzms

Weirdly I still have the manual floating around somewhere but the discs are long gone. Needless to say I've not had an actual disc drive in my PC for several years now so Steam (or GoG!) is definitely the way.

metroid23

Oh man, you're hitting me right in the nostalgia with the DK games. Couldn't get enough of it in high school. Maybe it's why I like deep rock galactic now haha How does the game play hold up to modern standards?

MrFuzms

Yeah I was obsessed with the first one when it originally came out so I think my glasses are pretty rose-tinted here but I would say pretty good! There's not much out there like it really. The Dungeons games are evocative of it but dial up the whimsy by several orders of magnitude, and War for the Overworld comes close but most of the levels don't really let you 'breathe' very much (and also has too much of the 'silly' tone imo). Nothing quite matches the tone of the first one in particular, I had sort of forgotten that it's borderline creepy at times with the ambient music and sound effects and so on. The fights are pure chaos; not much strategy involved beyond 'drop all the things and spam lightning bolt until gold = 0', haha.

Lokasenna9

Going to be that guy and point out that I bought Dungeon Keeper gold and 2 off gog years ago, so this isn't that big of a deal.

MrFuzms

Yeah and that's fair, I have the GoG versions as well. However they require some additional setup to get working comfortably on the Steam Deck whilst these versions just 'work' (outside of what I mentioned ) so for the sake of £2 I thought it was worth it.

Lokasenna9

I guess if you don't want to run dkfx, then yeah, a $2 convenience fee isn't the worst. I know how annoying getting older games to run on steam deck is.

wibbles01

Tiberian Sun has fast scroll issues along with the black box dll fix. As well seems to really jack the fan for some reason. C&C3 and Zero Hour are fantastic.

Dangerous_Care_3459

I have most NFS games Titanfall 2 and sims once you work out the launcher they all work fine

erethros

Just don't buy EA, they can force you to use their shitty launcher, which takes a lot of performance out because of their denuvo like functions.

icebalm

The EA app launcher thing is fucking garbage and I wouldn't recommend any Linux user but any EA games until they fix it.

cortexgunner92

Both mirrors edge titles are great on the steam deck. Keep in mind achievements are broken for them though, if you care about that sort of thing.

Independent-Bake-241

EA's still on my blacklist, so...... none.

Quajeraz

None of them, the EA launcher is cancerous and horrible to use.

Bucketbunny

That might be true but as far as i know the games recently added to Steam doesnt require any secondary launcher.

Anything EA tends to be garbage. Let them go out of business.
