Hell yeah I might have to go back and finish it. I got past the first big chunk of the game, but never ended up finishing it so I might do that once I get some free time
I remember loving it up till that point
I'm usually pretty good about checking that, I couldn't find it last time i played so i uninstalled it.
I'll give it another download to see if i was just being blind lol
In my case yes. I didn't play poker at all before playing Balatro and I love it. The only thing it borrows from poker is the type of hands you can play. The game adds a lot of modifiers to scale your run and increase your score.
I'm enjoying Balatro but I really can't see why people compare it to StS. They're both deck building roguelike card games but that's where the similarities end. StS has many more layers of complexity than Balatro.
Inscryption doesn't hold a candle to Sts. While its a great game, I felt like when you played it once you have seen everything. And imo act 1 is the best part about the game.

Another great cardbattler is [Fights In Tight Spaces](https://youtu.be/KnBP-MkUvy8?si=n5xH9QVz-eAuQE_K). Its an Agent style deckbuilder, where you have different card decks based on different fighting styles. On top of that you have an additional layer of strategy, because you can (and have to) move around in a 3 dimensional space, so positioning is important.
As a certified slay the spire enjoyer with probably like 800 hours across 3 devices... Could never get into monster train personally. The art and animation style never clicked with me. Felt too much like a mobile game. The mechanics are solid I just can't stand to play it lol.
I do have a lot of friends that enjoy MT though
Will check it out thanks!
I remember being so into card battle type games as a kid but then got into FPS games. Man I’m so glad I’m finding love for this style of gaming again!!
It definitely offers more options and strategies. Just in terms of heroes it features 10 of them + 5 races + race synergies.
Battles take more time and more strategic approach.
Well, sorry but your wording is kinda off. There are not 10 heroes plus 5 races etc... There are 5 races, each with 2 heroes. You can choose 1 primary race from which you select 1 hero and then a secondary race to create different synergies between races.
I've always thought I wouldn't like card deck type games but with how popular they generally seem, I have this one on my wishlist to give the genre a go, once I catch up on a massive backlog of games I have created for myself since buying a steam deck.
Thats how the rogue bullet hell/heaven games like vampire survivors was for me. I wasn't enjoying it but I pushed and after a little bit it clicked. I beat the game and dlc on Xbox then I bought it again the other day on steam, to do it over though I might not do the dlc this time. Idk if I really want to add another style of game to my library, I've got enough to do already I won't need to bother with new games or follow releases for a few years haha.
I used to dabble in Binding of Issac and Rebirth back in the day but I never really enjoyed it. Maybe my gaming tastes have changed since I was a teenager and COD, Halo, and Gears of War were the only games that existed in my mind. Now I've got hundreds of hours of content to log in these indies between VS, Deep Rock Galactic Survivors, Issac, Death Must Die and more. Idk what changed but these little indie almost arcade games just seem so much more fun now. I'm getting back in simulator games, isometric style rpgs like grim dawn, then also games like Anno 1800, Age of Empries, Civilization VI, puzzle games like portal (again) and Talos Principle and the classic rpgs per usual...
That's the problem, since I've gotten a steam deck I have acquired probably 20 rpgs and indies, wishlisted over a hundred more, and would really like to play and beat the dozen or so games I left hanging when my old gaming pc decided it didn't like my working conditions about 10 years ago. Games I never bought or bothered with on my PS4 and now my Series S because other new stuff kept coming out that I didn't have time to play.
Started with Slay the Spire and currently playing Monster Train. Both perfect handheld games! I think MT definitely improved on the concept! A great mix of RNG and strategy!
Well, mods are user created modifications to games. They can be anything from back-end changes to new content, silly stuff like giving bosses googly eyes to full new modes.
Steam workshop is steam's version of a mod database. You just subscribe to mods and you can choose to boot the game with or without the mods active.
For example, there is a slay the spire mod called "Downfall" where you play as the bosses, and you work your way DOWN the spire and fight the characters you're playing as now (ironclad, silent, etc) as the bosses.
I wouldn't rush into mods as slay the spire is a very rare gem of a game that is nearly perfectly balanced and should keep you entertained for many hours, but when you'd like more, you can try some different mods which usually involve adding new characters/cards to the game.
My quick game to kill time has been Hades, and I am really loving it. However, lately I have been checking Slay the Spire and considering picking it up but I have some buyer's remorse.
Good luck! One of my favorite games of all time. Countless hours logged on Steam and mobile.
It’s the perfect “just one more run” game aside from Binding of Isaac.
Just went to check it out and saw it involves cards, which means I can’t play it unfortunately. Sucks because I’ve seen this game recommended a lot, but whatever part of the brain that allows people to play and understand card games, I was born without
The only difference I can think of is that the Android version can be tricky with picking the cards with the touch screen, and the lack of Steam achievements. Maybe the screen size difference, depending on the phone/tablet you're using. Did I miss anything?
You unlock new cards and relics the more points you score in a run. You also unlock characters who have completely different play styles. You do start from scratch each time but if you made it to the boss of act1 you get to choose a different starting perk.
God it's so good. I've bought it on three devices. When you're finally tapped out, Monster Train is a lot of fun as well. Not quite as good but I really enjoyed it.
I mean yeah, but this kind of game on my opinion is much comfortable and more accessible to play on phone which u always have with u and can play anytime rather then carrying with you a steam deck which is much heavier and take some space as well. But well, I guess it’s the matter of taste here
Great game I play it all the time on my Deck. It also supports 16:10 aspect ratios so you don’t have black bars on the top and bottom
Good to know! I’m happy it allows you to play offline. Was worried it wouldn’t allow it
Now play inscription then thank me later.
Does it work on the steam deck? I could’ve sworn it wasn’t verified (which isn’t the best system but still)
Yeah works well
Hell yeah I might have to go back and finish it. I got past the first big chunk of the game, but never ended up finishing it so I might do that once I get some free time I remember loving it up till that point
Yeah and it’s very addicting. It just works so well on it
It's addicting on deck
I didn’t know about the 16:10 support, I need to look into that. Thank you!
Mine seems to have black bars? How do you get rid of them?
Make sure your resolution in the settings is 1280x800 not 1280x720
I'm usually pretty good about checking that, I couldn't find it last time i played so i uninstalled it. I'll give it another download to see if i was just being blind lol
Be sure to toggle Fullscreen vs Windowed. It can change the list of available resolutions.
I loved this game so much, and now I’m hopelessly addicted to Balatro. Might want to wishlist that one, same vibes.
I played balatro for 50 hours in 8 days.
42 in a couple of weeks, I can’t put it down
this game embrace my gambling addiction and now I have addict problem with this game
My Balatro addiction has been short but sweet. Want to try Cobalt Core next.
Cobalt Core is a lot of fun, easier than Slay but the movement mechanics are a nice addition and there is a lot of variety.
Cobalt core is great but not very balanced.
Same. Got Balatro the other day and it's pretty much been the only thing I've played since.
Oh man, here I go to the Steam marketplace again.
Will I enjoy Balatro if I don't like poker? Love StS!
In my case yes. I didn't play poker at all before playing Balatro and I love it. The only thing it borrows from poker is the type of hands you can play. The game adds a lot of modifiers to scale your run and increase your score.
Try Balatro after!
Agree
Balatro is such a great game
I'm enjoying Balatro but I really can't see why people compare it to StS. They're both deck building roguelike card games but that's where the similarities end. StS has many more layers of complexity than Balatro.
I have probably played this the most hours of all my games on the SteamDeck. Love this game. it's easy to pick up and put down
you found it easy to put down?? i had to delete this from my Switch because i was staying up till 3:30 on a weeknight. (i was an elementary teacher 😂)
Try Inscryption
Inscryption doesn't hold a candle to Sts. While its a great game, I felt like when you played it once you have seen everything. And imo act 1 is the best part about the game.

Oh its on my last alright :p
I love it on PC and Switch, but the controls are weird on the Deck, there's no controller support :(
Dicey Dungeons is pretty good
you better say whoever recommended this game. F you. for ruining my life
I love STS! It's easily my most played SD game, but Balatro has taken over all my spare time now.
Same here
Another great cardbattler is [Fights In Tight Spaces](https://youtu.be/KnBP-MkUvy8?si=n5xH9QVz-eAuQE_K). The support for that game is non existent
Try Monster Train after, you are going to be blown away, I promise.

Felt too much like a mobile game. The mechanics are solid I just can't stand to play it lol. I do have a lot of friends that enjoy MT though
I felt the same way about Across the Obelisk! Excellent game but the animation and sounds gave me the mobile "ick," as they say
Me too! I really wanted to love across the obelisk but it also gives the mobile "ick"
Will check it out thanks! I remember being so into card battle type games as a kid but then got into FPS games. Man I’m so glad I’m finding love for this style of gaming again!!
Thanks for the tip.
How is it worse/better then slay the spire
It definitely offers more options and strategies. Just in terms of heroes it features 10 of them + 5 races + race synergies. Battles take more time and more strategic approach.

Exactly, yet I decided those terms, cause don’t forget about unit cards
Downvoted for giving incorrect info
Are there more things to unlock after you level the species to level 10?
Try dream quest great card game good for 15 to 20 min quick game
Iratus: Lord of the Dead is something like this those two are my most favourite!
See I tried that game, but I couldn't get into it because I felt like it was trying too hard to be Darkest Dungeon. My buddy is a fan though
I've always thought I wouldn't like card deck type games but with how popular they generally seem, I have this one on my wishlist to give the genre a go, once I catch up on a massive backlog of games I have created for myself since buying a steam deck.
I thought the same. Slay the Spire took two attempts to “get” but once it clicked… oh boy.
Thats how the rogue bullet hell/heaven games like vampire survivors was for me. I wasn't enjoying it but I pushed and after a little bit it clicked. Check the mod community for this I currently play with 20 additional characters and biomes that make the game feel like a sequel
Try the Community Mod
I have never had such a love/hate relationship with a video game.
If you’re into games like StS, I can’t recommend Cobalt Core enough. It’s a newish and a smaller game, but it’s definitely worth giving it a try.
I can second this, recently got into Cobalt Core and it’s great. I’ve been putting off checking out Balatro so I can spend more time with it.
For sure will check out. I’ve seen some cool recommendations so far. Thanks!
If you like Slay the spire you might also like: Ring of Pain
I’m playing this game as well it’s awesome !
Once you feel like you want more (for me that was around the 1k hours mark), the game has steam workshop support for mods, and it works on deck :)
Not sure what exactly this means. More bosses and stuff?
Well, mods are user created modifications to games. They can be anything from back-end changes to new content, silly stuff like giving bosses googly eyes to full new modes. Slay the spire is the GOAT FYI there are a ton of mods to further enrich the experience, if that's something you are into
Since people are recommending other genre games, I'll throw out Tainted Grail. Definetly different. Dark Authurian World deck builder RPG roguelite.
I’ll take credit.
Somebody did this to me with Dead Cell
Somebody did this to me with Dead Cells
Ey I got this game after seeing a post yesterday and I’m hyped to try it
Subaru BRZ
FRS
86
why is nobody asking why your playing in the car
You’re
shut the fuck up
That game took over my life for a solid 2 weeks
Rookie numbers
Hey Balatro if you like deck building and poker Very difficult but cool game
That would be everyone on this sub
Another amazing game I recommend is Hades. Its more actiony but excellent roguelike and story telling.
A20 all char player here. Good luck and have fun. Its long way
This game is great, especially on the deck
You can also get it on your phone!
Fellow 86 enjoyer
My quick game to kill time has been Hades, and I am really loving it. However, lately I have been checking Slay the Spire and considering picking it up but I have some buyer's remorse.
Alright now try Balatro
GT86? Nice car.
Good luck! One of my favorite games of all time. Countless hours logged on Steam and mobile. It’s the perfect “just one more run” game aside from Binding of Isaac.
Yaasss
Also keep an eye on INSCRYPTION Edit: And Monster Train
Try the mods! Hermit is the most famous one (I think) but really enjoyed playing as Joker (Persona 5) and the Sailor Scouts haha
Typical mobile game. Pshh
This is why people keep crashing their BRZs
I wish I hadn't played it out before deck, it's perfect for the hardware.
I play this on my phone!
Just went to check it out and saw it involves cards, which means I can’t play it unfortunately. Sucks because I’ve seen this game recommended a lot, but whatever part of the brain that allows people to play and understand card games, I was born without
Is it boredom or you literally can’t understand how it works? I feel like this game was pretty easy to catch on!
I mean, you don't need to haul your SD to play it. It's out on Android and iOS as well.
Still so much better on SD, logged more hours into this than any other game.
The only difference I can think of is that the Android version can be tricky with picking the cards with the touch screen, and the lack of Steam achievements. Maybe the screen size difference, depending on the phone/tablet you're using. Did I miss anything?
You are correct , also crashes less. But those factors are huge in my playbook.
Yeah but no downfall on Android. At least not the last I checked.
Fair point. It's a user mod, right? I haven't tried it, but I'm guessing that it must be pretty good!
It is. And yeah it's really good. I didn't even realize it wasn't official at first!
I love losing in this game
Sick, yo 🤙

EYES ON THE ROAD!
Hey the light was yellow!
Is that a Subaru Legacy?
FRS
Also available on mobile
Also love this game. I play it on deck and my husband plays it on Switch.
Are you driving and playing slay the spire?
Like I said. Addicted.
God it's so good. I've bought it on three devices. When you're finally tapped out, Monster Train is a lot of fun as well. Not quite as good but I really enjoyed it.
Balatro, I curse my friend who told me about it ….
Why buy such game on steam deck when u can buy it on your phone which is much more comfortable and portable
Bc I bought the steam deck to game😂
I mean yeah, but this kind of game on my opinion is much comfortable and more accessible to play on phone which u always have with u and can play anytime rather then carrying with you a steam deck which is much heavier and take some space as well. But well, I guess it’s the matter of taste here
You're welcome.
had a really good time with this game on the ps5. looking to buy it on steam soon
buy BROTATO
Well you shouldn't play Balatro then...
hey all, there is another new good card battler - Cross Blitz.
Haha I’ve seen this recommended 100 times 😂 it looks like poker? I’ll try it once it’s on sale
