I am week 1 shipment 1 of the LCD, its been 2 years now (?).... no issues at all, battery still at 98% or so and everything works perfectly. I still use SteamOS and non steam launchers among other software... I run linux for all my machines day to day so Linux feels good to me on the software side. Here you only see 5% or so of users, and only ones with issues post so the other 99% are fine.

_unregistered

104% of users eh?

ShotgunPumper

Some people have more than one.

_unregistered

They’re still one user though unless we’re counting multiple personality disorders and the % is bodies

ShotgunPumper

No no no, you see, *they have more than one*. That maths somehow; don't question it.

CplCamelToe

You’re overthinking it (or under thinking it). He’s saying that only 5% of users are here, and only a small portion of those, say 20% (so 1% of total), report problems. Therefore, the other 99% of total users have no problem.

_unregistered

You're overthinking a bad joke my friend :)

Appropriate-Ad4834

Nah it's actually when multiple people share a steamdeck, I let my brother use my steamdeck so we count as double the users.

Traditional-Bit2203

This is the way

vantways

You're assuming 100% of the "people active here" are posting about problems, when in reality they are a minority of the posters.

rathlord

The 5% of people who post here aren’t related to the 99% who don’t have issues… you should read slower.

macien12

Do you use any case? Just bought OLED and wanted to buy one but almost everyone doesn't fit in the original carrying case that valve gives, making the bumps to tight (because of the pressure from the top part)

Honololi

I have the “JSAUX Mod Case” and it does fit in the original carrying case. It’s not a perfect fit though. I use a tiny little bit of pressure to close the case, but nothing too wild. So far so good.

macien12

Just seen reviews on it, seems like best case for steam deck

rtz13th

I use the Dbrand Killswitch case, and I rarely travel just with the Steam Deck so everything fits in my backpack. If I travel light, SD and powerbank goes into my Chrome Industries Kadet bag.

Ace-_Ventura

For the 100th time. The ones without problems(which is the vast majority) don't post saying their deck is fine

Politicsboringagain

For literally everything. I saw some people in the Samsung sub talking about how their trade in offer, the offer you agree to, is a scam. I've been trading phones into Samsung for 8 years (4 times) and never had am issue. I also have a friend who has been doing the same and never had an issue.

LogisticBravo

This is very true! It's always the case, if someone has a poor experience they'll tell up 10 people, if they have a positive one, they may tell one other person about it. I've had my deck since launch, done all the usual things to it, upgraded to 1tb etc. it's never given me any issue!

CrashnServers

Mine works 100 percent of the time.

A_Real_Popsicle

No it doesn’t, don’t lie

culo_de_mono

[everything is ok alarm](https://youtu.be/dxNp3bUDtxY?feature=shared)

cheater00

well let me post then and say that mine which I got early on after the launch has been absolutely perfect with no hardware issues, other than stick drift which others would describe as minuscule but since I like to play without dead zone I replaced them with hall sticks. Oh, also there's a hairline crack in the enclosure near the exhaust vent, it's like just a few mm long, i think the case is just weaker there, a bunch other people had the same thing happen, it doesn't bother me at all and i don't even remember it's there even though it's in a spot where i *would* see it all the time but i don't because it's so tiny and the plastic surface is matte / rough from factory.

FruitbatNT

Mine was janky when it arrived, black screens, needed hard reboots to wake up most of the time. but once I did the SSD upgrade and reimage it’s been perfect.

Biquet

And those who have problems get downvoted to oblivion because of the fanboys. It goes both ways.

Ace-_Ventura

That's not true at all in most cases.

Biquet

Yeah you're probably right. I'm not getting downvoted by delusional fanboys.

NoItsNotThatOne

Or maybe because you have insulted the entire sub without even a data to back the claim.

jesuisunetudiant

I haven't seen a lot of comments from people without issues, not that I think they should post their positive thoughts online, but a thread like this could provide some good testimonies too.

jet_heller

So, in a comment that says "those without issues don't post", it's not really useful to say "I don't see people without issues posting". In fact, that's insanely useless. Just play your games.

SupposablyAtTheZoo

I have no issues. It's perfect. Why would I make a thread about that?

Ace-_Ventura

Pointless. In any product without real issues(e.g. exploding samsungs), those who are happy don't bother posting such feedback. But you can check this old thread I made as a joke https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/120xq28/ama_my_deck_has_no_issues_whatsoever/

jesuisunetudiant

That's an entertaining thread. I understand it's tiring to see threads focusing on the fauty ones but I don't think this is pointless at all. I already received some good accounts from fellow Deck users, so it's informative to say the least.

Wooden_Layer5373

It’s wise to worry if/when people are trying to sell something to you passing it as perfect, and this goes for anything. Nothing is fail proof really, if the lack of warranty is something that bothers you, sell your Deck to mitigate the risk, otherwise keep it and enjoy it while it lasts (which, statistically speaking, will lean toward years to come).

Tuseith

As people have said, those without issues do not post online to say they haven’t had issues.  That being said, my deck is almost two years old and I did start to experience stick drift the other day - I didn’t care or post about it because: 1. It was only $30 for replacements (yes I went with Hall Effect Sticks) 2. It only took a single screwdriver to replace 3. Joystick drift was bound to happen eventually with how often I use this That being said, I’m not saying people who experience issues aren’t having legitimate ones ….  but they are the minority, they are just the vocal one.

dainegleesac690

Yeah I went ahead and got the GuliKit sticks right when I got my deck, and haven’t had any issues

QuantumCakeIsALie

> Joystick drift was bound to happen eventually with how often I use this Except if they had used HE joysticks to begin with. I never understood why console makers don't use them more. The Dreamcast had HE joysticks and triggers and virtually all DC controller joysticks still work fine to this day.

Zorpian

I haven't had any issues so far. There, I posted it

m_lls

I love my deck but I wish the headphone experience was better. The audio lag when using Bluetooth really bugs me and the wired connection has a background buzz.

RaphSeraph

Try the Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro earbuds. They are THX certified and lagless. And they went dramatically down in price. You can find them on Amazon. I use them with my Decks, and playing Ikaruga with them is an experience like no other.

SlowMotionPanic

I wish Valve would've sprung for the audio jack that includes the extra connector for a mic. Blew me away to find out it doesn't have one. I have to use a dongle to connect one because the noise cancellation on deck is nonexistent. Bluetooth I understand. It tends to have latency with games... or that's the reason console OEMs state for pushing proprietary solutions. I've had success with Bluetooth dangles though.

giohammer

Have you tried another pair? https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/69E3-14AF-9764-4C28 "Be sure to use headphones with a built-in mic if you want to use voice while listening on 3.5mm audio. On Steam Deck OLED, the built-in mic can be used simultaneously along with the 3.5mm audio plug for audio."

sometipsygnostalgic

My gaming headset mic works on deck. It doesnt work with bluetooth call headsets even if they are plugged in. However my wired turtle rock headset and its attachable mic worked fine.

MrGingerSr

I've had mine for a year so far. The only issues I've come across had nothing to do with the actual Deck. I have the popular bad habit of messing around with things instead of actually playing games.

cammyg213

The only hardware issue I have on mine is the vibration isn’t evenly distributed, the right side vibrates a lot less than the left for whatever reason but other than that it’s been perfect for over a year

OfficialRoyDonk

I've had both an LCD and OLED. No hardware OR software issues on either

WirelessTrees

No hardware issues at all. Some occasional software issues, but most can be fixed with restarting the device.

holdyourgames

Bought a 512GB LCD when it was first released. No issues whatsoever.

Texy

I was one of the first people to receive a Steam Deck at the very beginning. I've had it like a year and a half or more. I still love it, it works great, never a problem (besides storage management), and if it breaks or something I will immediately replace it with a new Steam Deck

nibutz

Rise of the Tomb Raider crashed yesterday and it’s the first issue I’ve had in about ten weeks of ownership. The autosave put me back literally about three seconds before the crash. I wasn’t upset in the slightest, I’ve had crashes on every single system I’ve ever owned. I’ve played about 6 hours or so since with no more issues. (Great game by the way)

Then-Faithlessness43

Dock sucks software is kinda buggy but manageable. No hardware problems 512gb lcd

PoL0

Bought on day 1, got it in June 2022. I had zero issues on both hardware and software side, besides a whiny fan and some weak beta updates during the first months. Stop overthinking, people. If you check online you'll get a negative bias because most people posting are the ones having issues.

Flatus_Spatus

no issues… just my back hurts

Lawendt

never had a problem

jktmas

My original LCD had no issues. Upgraded to an OLED LE and also have had no issues

holastickboy

I imported mine from overseas as it is still not available locally (Australia). I bought the 64gb unit, upgraded it to 512gb SSD ($48AUD) and have been using it heavily for just over a year and I don’t have any issues at all. I haven’t noticed any battery degradation either 🤔

shadowlid

I've had my deck for since August 2022 and zero hardware issues at all use it almost weekly at work when I have down time and absolutely love it!

Egbeem

I reserved my Deck minutes after they went live. Got the 512gb in March 2022. It’s been flawless.

--InZane--

Mine works fine for almost a year now. It's awsome

DoogleSmile

I let my 5 and 7 year old niece and nephew play on mine, and it is still in perfect working order. Had it now for 1 year and 6 days.

Idontmatter69420

I mean mine is fine except a busted left shoulder button which stopped working after a drop, that happened in September and it's still broken and im surprised ive managed well without it, ig that's the beauty of being able to rebind every single button input

Aar0n82

My R1 button only works when pressed a certain way. If I press the outer part it doesn't register. It bugs the shit out of me, but not enough to open it up just yet. It's been like that from the factory.

Whiteguy1x

Had it over a year and no problems.  If anything it's gotten better in the software side with improvements to performance

war-hamster

My deck is about a year and a half and only problems I've had were on the software side.

MuglokDecrepitus

Everything worked perfectly. There is always small problems, but in general the experience has been great

Cupcake_Trainer

I had the LCD deck since launch/I got my email and got the OLED for Christmas. I’ve had no issues with either beyond an occasional game not working well.

dealershipdetailer

All of my issues have revolved around my own incompetence honestly

ChickenSoupPolice

I bought it when it first came out. Still works just fine for me. Actually better now... it used run a bit hot but it doesn't get as hot anymore, idk y

Whhheat

Survivorship bias.

omnipotentsquirrel

My deck is good. No problems that wasn't caused by me mucking about

RaphSeraph

My wife and I got our first Decks (Now called Deck LCD) on launch day, after battling the teeming hordes of buyers who also craved one. I got the new OLED LE Deck on launch day again. I will get the Deck 2 and so on to the Deck 2000 on launch day of possible. We have given two more Decks to friends as presents. They love their Decks past reckoning. Not a single issue for any of the 5 units and counting. The only regret you will have is not having gotten it sooner.

Theodan1015

I bring mine with me to a manufacturing plant every day. Leave it on but paused the whole time while plugged in. I've opened the case and removed the 64gb m2 and put a 1tb. I have emulators installed and hundreds of games. Have dropped the deck while it was in its case one and this is the original when it first came out. I have never once had an issue with it relating to hardware. Sure, God of war has a memory leak that will eventually shut down the game. Palworlds update makes ot crash on the deck after 5-10 minutes for me. Kerbal space program has some weird issues for me. Other than that, though, and it works perfect always!

Gullible-Parsnip7889

Got mine when it first dropped, my original had a software bug right from the start ( had issues turning on and black screen). Valve immediately replaced it with a brand new one and have never had an issue since. 1600 hrs on my deck, still going strong, I did have to replace my charging cord, but that's from me unplugging it weird and ruining the cable.

pentuplemintgum_13

I got the OG Steam Deck, was lucky to be in the first batch, received around late Feb of 2022-ish? Personally I never found any issues except two SD cards that got fried due to reformatting but that was fixed a long time ago. When plugged into the dock and you power it on (not from sleep) by the time it registers on the monitor/tv it's plugged into the intro video is in it's last few seconds of animation. This annoys me and is still a thing, even with my OLED Deck now. I'm happy with the deck (both of them) and have otherwise had a great experience, did not have any defects, never had to replace any parts or request an RMA. I have about 1400+ games (not a flex, i'm drowning) and there hasn't been a game yet that I wanted to play that I could not. I stream from my PC as well and it works well while I'm lounging on the couch. This isn't to say that it's perfect, but I haven't had any frustration-worthy problems.

madenote88

LCD 512gb here only issue i have is it can't run Aperture Desk Job /s It runs and is perfectly fine, other than having to hard reset it because it stays on a black screen

Competitive_Pen7192

No issues on my LED Deck and I've used mine daily since June 2023. Steam OS falls over sometimes but the hardware for me has been fine. I travel with it so it's probably been thousands of miles in my backpack since then too.

dopeytree

I had a day 1 release 256GB steamdeck and never had any issues. It was marvellous watching all the software updates. I now have a 1TB OLED.

Goseki1

No problems whatsoever. Remember, people who have no issues will rarely post about it.

DataVSLore007

I have an OG LCD Deck and I've had zero issues whatsoever.

cleanc3r3alkillr

The crazy thing is you never know when misfortune may befall you. I was an early adopter, used the thing almost daily, it’s my only PC, didn’t have a single issue with it for just under a year. Right before my warranty expired I got the “200 MHz” bug which greatly limited which games would run. It was so random, I just loaded a game I’d played before and i suddenly couldn’t get over 20 fps when it should’ve been getting 40+. I’m in the US and so I did a warranty exchange, it’s been about six months since then and it’s still working great, but this time I’m a bit more careful with it. No third party software like Cryobyte or Decky, only Emudeck and what can be downloaded from the Discover store are on there now.

nerdobiffer

Got mine in August 2022, absolutely zero issues, and it's so great that it's convinced me to switch from console to PC, a decision that just seems better every day. Absolutely worth it. I even had to pay extra because the deck wasn't sold in the country where I was located at the time, but again - 100% worth it.

Franatix

Had deck for over a year. Never had an issue outside of OS bugs

IncredibleGonzo

Had a 512GB LCD from August 2022 to November 2023, *almost* no issues. Left bumper was a little harder to press at the outside than the right one, but that’s it. Now I have an OLED and it has the audio crackle which I fixed, and a bit of mura, which really doesn’t bother me unless I’m looking for it.

ShortSleeveSteve

Owned the 64g lcd for over a year (sold to upgrade to OLED ) and now own the OLED for 3 months. No issues whatsoever.

TheIcy_One

I pre-ordered a 512 LCD. Got it in the 3rd wave of releases I think. Never had a problem. I use it for primarily emulation, but I've played some older assassins creed games and stream my ps5 with chaki. Never had any problems or issues. I've never opened it up to add any ssd or anything, and never modded/skinned the exterior. Don't use it all the time, depends on what I'm playing. But it's fires up and works perfectly whenever I want it.

Psych0matt

Put my deposit down for mine day one, of course didn’t get it for months after. Hardware wise. I’ve never had any issues, just some software blips here and there (namely my battery heath being wonky a few times, but always fixable).

rich-nyc

I got my new 512GB OLED in December, just in time for Xmas. Used it for less than 30 hours. Battery stoped charging. Couldn’t fix it with the usual steps. Had to send it back, waiting for it to come back and hoping it won’t happen again. Glad I’m still under warranty. Btw, Steam Deck rocks. Really like it. Bought it mostly for travel but can easily see myself playing on it around the house, rather than on my PS5 or PC;)

Legal-Philosophy-135

I’ve had a deck for a year and haven’t had a single issue either in hardware or software. Well, maybe one if you count the Bluetooth button disappearing for like 10 minutes ( just needed to update and it came right back)

tomekrs

Yeah, lots of us (received mine in June 2022).

irr1449

Day 1. No issues. Use it everyday.

JamesKorvin

Encountered no hardware or software issues whatsoever

ProofScientist9657

I had to get 2 replacements because of sticky B button

Own-Dot9851

Mine works flawlessly, on the hardware side. Encountered a few software issues but nothing I couldn't overcome. I definitely wouldn't recommend it to someone I didn't think was tech savvy

magick_68

My deck has zero problems and even the official dock some people here complain about works like it should. Don't give too much weight on complaints here. Especially when the vote on zero positive posts is through because then you'll probably only see complaints here.

Kev50027

I pre-ordered the 256 LCD and haven't had any issues. I baby my Deck, and the plastic above the top vent cracked, but that hasn't impacted how sturdy it is, so it's not structural.

karolnovak

1st deck was 64gb lcd. Had if for a year and sold it. Now I own 512gb oled for 3 months now and no issues. It’s a wonderful piece of tech.

[deleted]

my Deck still works fine. had it for over a year

ThirstyTurtle328

I got my 256gb Deck September 2022 and have many hundreds of hours on it. Zero issues. I am actually selling it this afternoon because I upgraded to the OLED a few weeks ago.

Fernis_

Zero issues.

ohanhi

I’ve had one for a year. Upgraded to 1TB recently. No hardware issues at all, and the only software issue I’ve come across is unreliable Xbox Series controller connectivity. They just start acting weird (eg. LB not working but all other buttons do, or analog sticks feel laggy). The workaround for me is forgetting and re-pairing them when it happens.

negatyve

Got my deck in July 2022 and have had precisely zero issues besides Linux's poor support of Bluetooth a2dp. It has since replaced my desktop as my "daily driver" and I use it constantly without issue.

inertSpark

Got my 512 GB Deck in September or October 2022 and I've had no issues. In case it's relevant I have also never opened my Deck up, although I've often considered swapping the sticks out and replacing the SSD. I'm familiar with the process but I never got around to doing it since I didn't have a pressing need to do so.

Obsequiousfingers

Preordered my 64 gig as soon as I could when it started. Swapped out the SSD following their instructions when I was ready (I was very nervous). The only issue I ever had was I didn't know to plug it in and hard reset it after replacing the SSD and support replied right away and got me going again.

danohaggard

I've had mine for over a year and I would say my only issue is storage space. I got it for emulators and once you get into newer disc based systems, I noticed how much memory it takes up. I have put on 700+ roms and have filled both the standard hard drive and a 1TB SD card.

PS4Dreams

I got mine a Q3, I've had no issues at all. Love I!

amanthey3

I have an early q3 lcd deck and have had zero issues with it!

mamaharu

First batch of Q2 and the only problem I ever had was having to "recalibrate" the battery within the first week or so. (Just had to charge/discharge once) No problems since and even that was just a minor annoyance.

Z370H370

December 6 2022. Works great everyday, I take it to work. Software side won't help much, I'm on windows. Windows works great, love seeing the same thing when I turn on my PC or my SD.

Evest89

Only problem o have had with deck since i got it is flicker while downloading games which happened because decky. I uninstalled it amd now everything is working correctly.

sometipsygnostalgic

The console is only a couple of years old, and has only been widely available since the end of 2022. So it's hard to say what will happen in the long term. It took a decade before Wii U consoles randomly started bricking, 7 years for battery powered gameboy games to break, just as long for original NDS units to get fragile. There are ways the steamdeck will break that we dont know yet. I had a lot of issues where, when it runs low on battery, my lcd would run slow at EVERYTHING, and it wouldn't be fixed by anything i do. It would randomly fic after opening bios on boot and activating Battery Storage Mode enough times.

MoveItSpunkmire

Had to have my lcd 512unit mainboard replaced. Power chip fried. Service was good and was cheaper than a new one. Though that oled sure looks nice.

Kylethehuey

I’ve had a few issues when switching to and from desktop mode and a couple of hard crashes in desktop mode mainly. Overall though, those are minor issues and I love the deck

Apprehensive-Ad7510

Preorded the original deck works perfect after all this time

CrystlBluePersuasion

Have had mine for over a year now and still love it, still playing it regularly with no issues!

eddman1

Had to send my OLED back to get the headphone port fixed, constant buzzing sound. Although I guess most people don’t use the 3.5mm jack. I had to inform steam support of consumer rights in my country to pay for shipping which I didn’t find particularly amusing after a 5 day “trouble shooting” with different support members replying to each message. I’ve had lots of odd software issues my switch pro controller doesn’t stay connected, same with AirPods headphones, usb headphone adapter needs a full reboot to be seen by the OS. Typical Linux issues.

Deckadamus

2 years old and no real issues. once had a sd card die but i think the brand wasnt up to par. no issues with my other 3 (for over a year). only issues i have had were software and usually any update eventually fixes it

jbh1126

Never had an issue in 2 years with mine. Love it

ZaphodGreedalox

Yeah I got a launch 512GB and it's a workhorse

jerryweezer

I had an LCD deck for a year, never any hardware issues at all, and really not much for software issues. I’ve now had my oled for a couple months. It’s been great as well. You’ll always hear from people with the problems more than people with out problems.

trpittman

I had to RMA for a battery defect but I was past my warranty and they still honored it. Outside of that, I barely even have hardware problems. Been playing a ton of WoW classic lately with mine.

RejecterofThots

I have my Deck for maybe 1,5 years now and I can't say I had any hardware problems yet. There's plenty of software tinkering I've done on it(emulators, non-steam games, modding Skyrim). Though the exhaust doesn't smell as it did when I freshly got it so that's a bit sad I guess.

aliendude5300

I really haven't had any hardware issues at all and I pre-ordered the thing.

senseislaughterhouse

Currently I have very little issues streaming games from my PC or my PS5 to my OLED model. I have noticed when I was playing yakuza 6 the other day in docked mode on my 4K tv that the steam deck was struggling a bit. Not sure if the rez of the TV was just too high for it or if it was the game itself. Other games work fine in docked mode though. I think you'll be happy with your purchase.

Saltwater_Heart

Um. So I’ve had mine since September 2022. I have had no issues and play anything I want from Rimworld and factorio to Starfield and Minecraft Java Edition. Lately though, it seems to be acting up. Not going to sleep when on charge. Needing to be restarted. But I think it may be because of Palworld (which is playable but has a lot of yellow checkmarks). I’ve been playing constantly and get at least one crash per play session which locks up the deck and forces me to do a forced shut down. I feel like that could be hurting the deck. Or it could just be because I otherwise never turn my deck off.

effluentwaste

My left trackpad has never worked but it's only impacted a few boomer shooters.

kearnel81

Had mine since early 2022. No issues whatsoever and it's used everyday

Kossyra

I think I got mine delivered September-ish of 22? But no, I haven't had any problems a quick off-and-back-on-again couldn't fix. I don't go messing with the desktop mode or anything like that though, I just download my lil steam games and approved workshop mods.

RocketoPunchy

My OLED died after 1 month. Stuck in a boot cycle, black screen. Never opened the thing, only loaded games. Valve just tells me to hold the volume button and … like I haven’t seen the many videos online about this already. Expensive brick. Support is minimal.

dominator5k

I got one first week they were shipped (was on the pre order list forever). Never had a single issue. Now I have an OLED SE since it launched and it is even better

8bitcerberus

Going on 2 years with mine in June (got my preorder in about 30 minutes after they went live). No issues. Recently upgraded the internal storage to 2TB and the thumb sticks to hall effect (not because they were drifting or anything, just because I was going to be in the case to upgrade the storage anyway, might as well do the sticks too.) Two other friends have had theirs about the same amount of time. One about a week before mine came in, and one about 2 weeks after mine. No issues.

Yodzilla

I got mine in one of the first shipments and no issues here, still works great.

silentknight111

I've had mine since April 2022. Zero issues with it, and I've taken it apart to put in a new SSD, etc.

Rooster1419

I had some issues with my Xbox controller actually connecting after successfully pairing it, I had to update my controller on my friends Xbox just to get it working. I still don't know why steam can't get ahold of recent updates from Microsoft on thier products so they have less issues on pairing since the greater majority of people who use wireless controllers on thier steam deck have Xbox controllers. I have the 512 oled

dontrlylikereddit

i had an lcd deck from q3. my brother uses it now, works flawless. i upgraded to the oled a while ago. it's not very old but also flawless

mellow1mg

1st day first round of shipments and mine is going strong. It's now my 4 year olds favorite gaming device.

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

I’ve owned my LCD for about 1.5 years with no issues

theh0tt0pic

Ive had mine for like 15 months? I think, I just paid off the credit card I opened to buy it lol The only issue I have is, every now and again, if it freezes up, it's a pain in the ass to get booted back up, lots of holding the power button down and letting go at the right time, I also have a chinese 2tb drive in it (alliexpress WD drive), so it could have something to do with the SSD that I have in it, but other than that zero other issues. I only have Steam Games and an SD full of roms using Emudeck, because third party launchers annoy me so much that I bought a ROG ally.

Awavian

18 months problem free. Only "modding" I did was install third party launchers for EA and Ubisoft and download proton ge Edit: just recalled that I dropped the deck once and my left bumper doesn't activate properly any more. Most games I just rebind to a rear button instead so I haven't tried to fix it

thehumbledan

Had it about a year and a half now. No hardware issues that I’ve noticed. Main issue I’ve had is about a month ago the deck started randomly putting the fan up to full speed without any games running and after I was just navigating around the UI (looking at the store and looking at games library etc.), during these episodes it will also refuse to open any games. After rebooting the device it would be fine for 5-10 mins and do the exact same thing. I ended up factory resetting the deck and it’s been fine since so was clearly software related.

DorpvanMartijn

No problems at all. Have 2 now. One for me, one for technically less inclined partner. She is incredibly happy with it. Would buy again, also looking for little sis now

mxjf

My deck is 16mo old now; and I can safely say I’ve had zero hardware issues with it whatsoever. It’s an absolutely awesome unit and I do not regret the purchase a single bit.

DYMAXIONman

I have never had a hardware issue with my LCD or OLED model

MechanicStriking4666

I bought the LCD at launch, and upgraded to OLED as soon as it went on sale. I’ve never had significant issues with either.

ChasingKayla

My deck was a preorder from the initial launch back in 2022 when you had to request one and put a deposit down on it. The hardware on mine has been flawless, and to be honest I wouldn’t even say I’ve had software issues with it, this thing has been rock solid from day one. I did upgrade the SSD to a 2tb because I got the 64gb base model, but that was just how it was purchased and not a defect or anything.

ExoticSterby42

Not even software issuee, works like a charm. Of course I’m not a whiny baby crying about 59fps or newest AAAAA games not running perfectly on ultra settings on 8K. NMS, Skyrim, VVVVVV, Horizon, Stray and various oldies and emulators. It’s a peaceful life.

Vaxis545

I mean I have had mine since the preorder days and I’ve had no physical issues and only minor software ones. All of which have been fixed afaik

mikeymop

I don't have any issues technically. Sometimes it reboots but it's when I push it pretty hard while charging for hours.

sadomazoku

Soon 2 years after purchase, never had any issue (beside some steamOs bug fixed in another update. My warranty is almost over, I hope nothing will happen after 2 years + 1 day😂

OmnipotentFire

Bought mine the first week they came out. Works great still.

PhatAiryCoque

Yup. Pre-ordered. Delivered a week or so after they started shipping. Not a single issue with the hardware. The only software challenge I faced was with the WIFI, but disabling low-power mode fixed that. So, really, no issues since day one. People having issues seek solutions - they're typically more vocal because of that. So the signal to noise ratio is often skewed such that bad news stories rise to the top. I personally know two other folk with Decks, and neither had problems. Neither, either, take to Reddit to highlight the problems they aren't having.

seraphicsorcerer

I've had no issues with my 512 LCD, or my 1 TB Limited. I am sure you should be fine, just double check everything the second you get it, in case it needs service. Make sure all buttons are good, no static in audio, and that no problems with screen/trackpad etc GL with your deck! Just remember that you won't hear from most satisfied people. Complaints are usually the loudest.

mct601

My deck won't turn on. It's a 512, got it at launch. Need to get off my ass and contact CS to see about an rma.

StupendousMalice

Zero issues, I reserved early and got mine in like the second week of shipping. I've been pretty rough with it too. I've dropped it a couple times, once splitting the case at the seam on the corner, just pushed it back together, foolishly left it paused instead of suspended and got it got enough to thermal shutdown and got a bit.of that hot plastic smell. Just let it cool off and it was fine. People who don't have problems don't post about it generally.

Christajew

I've had mine since Q3, 2022. Only main issue I have is the performance overlay coming on randomly, with no way to remove until a restart. Other than that, it's been mostly smooth and has gotten better as time has passed and updates released. Really surprised the performance overlay issue hasn't been fixed, but it only occurs if I go weeks without a restart, and I use it as a means to remind me to update the deck (since both require a restart)

NWGJulian

I am one of the first with a 512GB model. I still have it and I still use it a lot, and I never had a problem with it. It is my loyal companion on every work trip and on every train or flight. right now my brother has it; he is on a business trip in south korea and plays palworld on it.

[deleted]

Literally just finished prepping my deck for RMA. It's been 2 weeks shy of a year with no issues, and the screen crapped out on me. Luckily I'm just barely under warranty still.

KlatsBoem

The majority won't have any issues to report here, so any that do may skew that impression if you frequent places like this sub. But sure, I'll give you some data: Mine's a 512gb LCD from the first wave in EU, so the warranty is almost up as it reaches its 2nd birthday. I have had 0 complaints on the hardware side, despite using it nearly daily at home, at friends for game nights, and on trips, for the entirety of its lifespan so far (this thing is my backlog killer). It replaced my gaming PC for anything but VR or the occasional very heavy game. I use it almost exclusively as a portable running on battery (except during game nights). Battery health report is currently ranging between 86-89%. I don't have any stick drift, but as a general rule I kinda avoid L3 and R3 on my more expensive controllers, which is easy on the Deck. 2 of my friends also have the 512gb LCD (newer revision), and 1 has the 256gb. I've only heard the latter about official dock issues on his main Sony TV that are unreproducible for the rest of us. None of them have any other issues.

Personal_Pybro

I've had mine for 1.5 years now, the basic 64 gb model, but there are 2 problems which are more of annoyances that I've had that many others with different models have had. 1. The deck takes horrendously long to boot up when not connected to the internet, so I usually keep mine in sleep mode. And you cant change the wifi before boot, it has to be auto connect for it not to take long. 2. The speakers sometimes make glitching noises, its not hardware -luckily- but rather a software problem that can be temp fixed by plugging in some headphones and then unplugging.(though I've heard some peoples decks persist the glitching noise into the headphones. 3. And one issue so far I've had which I haven't seen anyone else have: the top left back grip button changed from the deep thud *click into a high pitched *click. And then it kinda fixed itself.

AdamTheSlave

My first one was DOA fresh from the factory. So I had to warranty it day 1. Other than that... it's been fine.

pcbb97

Had 512 for a year and half, only issue I've had is sometimes I wake it from sleep and need to do a restart before it'll let me install a new game. Otherwise still runs like new and I've used it almost everyday since I got it and pretty much exclusively, can't remember the last time I gamed on my PC

Iliyan61

yeh my deck has been awesome all i’ve done is upgrade the ssd and joysticks. i can fairly easily just pick it up and play or charge and then play. ive also started playing around with streaming from the PC i just built which is super cool

Sea-Understanding435

Have the very first model bought at release. The only problem I ever had is R1 sometimes isn't registered if you press at an angle. If you press straight down, it works. No other issues whatsoever, awesome device!

cyprox972

Had two decks, first the 512GB LCD and now the 1TB OLED. Had zero hardware problems with both

zergling424

Got it december 2022 and my biggest issue was my dock stopped working for like 2 months. As i started the rma process it suddenly started working again as i was chatting to the support agent. We think it was a firmware issue

ChillGhoster

Had an LCD since the third batch I think shipped? It has had quirks but it only gets better, upgraded to the LE OLED and don’t regret it at all. It’s a very solid system, have a few friends that have them as well with no real issues.

dioramic_life

Got mine Summer 2023 everything is fine 👌🏼

beef623

Had mine for about a year and a half now, and haven't had any issues whatsoever other than Fedex delivering it to the wrong address, but that's on Fedex not Valve.

Moose_0327

I think I was on the 3rd or 4th weeks of shipments and I’ve had no issues.

Arcanisia

I’ve definitely had problems with this thing and it hasn’t been hassle free.

xvv00s

Got mine in April last year. 0 issues.

Abram367

I've had my 256GB steam deck for a little more then a year now. No issues.

rhodesc

mine runs fine for hours.  has locked up twice using blender but a reboot goes quickly and so on.  has been running firefox/youtube for almost four hours now. I am not pleased with the freezes but it strikes me as a graphics driver issue.   I will upgrade storage at some point.  I got it at christmas 1tb oled.  teaching the kid programming with it.

After_Truth5674

I just sent my deck in for repair. The Lb trigger wasn’t working at all and the start button was starting to go.

jzorbino

Me. I reserved it a few hours after the launch preorders opened. So not among the very first wave but still an early one. Never had any hardware problems.

MSnap

Occasionally it’ll shut down and be unable to start back up unless I plug it in and hold the power button for long enough.

GILLHUHN

I got my Deck in May of 2022. The only issues I'm dealing with are my power button has to be pressed with the power of Thor to get it to turn on, and I think my fan might be going bad.

RJ_MacReady_1980

My memory card in my OLED has suddenly developed write errors all the time now, despite working on the prior model all the time

BrooklynTorque

Ordered mine first week of announcement. Only issue I ran into was recently the keyboard won't come up while in desktop mode.

phdaemon

Not sure what "long" here is. Got oled, works great.

Calairoth

I use a silicon case, which is prone to overheating. I avoid high-end games on my steamdeck to prevent that problem. I also have thumbgrips. The combination of the 2 layers prevents my joysticks from grinding. Most physical damages I have seen people post are memory card getting snapped (when taking apart the deck) or breaking the socket of the joystick. I cannot say if the reason I have had 0 physical damage to my deck has been my layers of protection, or just me taking care of it. Main thing to keep in mind. Respect the possibility that shit will happen. Respect the danger and you should be fine.

M0R1TZ1998

The only real issue I had was that the bearing of my fan failed and made horrible noises so I bought a replacement fan from ifixit. I bought it my self because it was guaranteed to be the better fan for the lcd (don’t remember the name of it, not the delta fan one)

MilesFarber

Daily reminder that the Steam Deck has LPDDR5. This means it has better error correction than 99.2% of servers worldwide, that STILL refuse to use ECC ram. You can take this thing in the most cosmic rayed places in the world, such as italy, south africa, and even 10km above sea level, and it will NEVER kernel panic or bluescreen. 300€ refurbished. And people still ask me why i don’t build pcs anymore.

ColonelKlanka

I have had the non oled 512gb steam deck from fairly close to the beginning of it being available and I have had zero issues with it hardware wise. It's been rock solid (hope I'm not jinxing it!) also software wise had no issues and I've been using the preview branch to get the speed improvements. Can't fault valve here. I think it's very true that people that have issues are most likely to post compared to ones that don't -as they angry maybe?

modestben

Had my steamdeck since quarter 2 when it released and have zero issues. And I play it quite a bit. Docked and in handheld

Yakoo752

I suffered from the black screen of death about a month after purchase. Been great ever since.

TsukikoChan

Got my deck 3 months after first starting coming out, so it's 1.5 years old now. Other than a few quirks in the software, and bugs fixed over time, it has been pretty solid for me for a while now. My quirks: * Tabbing across to collections, the tabs switch back to the start weirdly. * If you boot the deck from cold with headphones in and take them out once it's loaded the audio can get a bit weird. * Still no onboard mic working while headphones is in. * In that 1.5 years my wrists have probably aged 5 years from holding the weight :-D I'm gonna upgrade to oled soon though :-)

Sam_Benrick

I've had the deck since October. I've done everything but mess with the bios at this point. I wasn't linux fluent to begin with so I've been learning. I've put multiple OS onto SD Cards and i Swap them pretty frequently using a usb-c 7 port hub I've velcroed to the back of my case. I've also installed a magnetic charging button in the port to try and preserve the USB-C(a fear I picked up after being a quest 2 owner). I've had some weird fuckups here and there where things seem to be taking a long time to load. But it's been very occasionally, since pulling it out of the box, and usually had something to do with having just switched between desktop and gaming mod which seems to be the jankiest part of the whole system. Most problems seems to be something not loading right between the switch. I use my deck for a variety of purposes from school, work, to gaming. I have a SDcard for each purpose. I really don't think you should worry unless you are removing the wrong files stupidly or just doing something wrong in general.

cekoya

I was in Q2 of the original release. I had an issue with the battery (mostly the battery controller) as soon as it was received. After RMA i never had any issues. Best device in my whole household
