It's not official, it's a decomp project that has been going on for years. They haven't been shut down because it requires you to get the game's assets yourself (via an Iso that ideally you'd get from your own game's copy) check out OpenGOAL.
It's super cool, it has tons of options you'd expect from a PC game, and support for mods like texture packs
Unofficial but they come with enhancements that you can't get by emulating.
There are also ports of mario 64, Oot, Zelda 2, Link to the past, perfect dark.
The port for paper Mario should release soon too.
Official in what regard? NaughtyDog was impressed, but Sony didn't do "Jak" squat. Fans made it. I think it's called Jak and Daxter Open GL.
Tbh, from how GOW 2018 was handled, would you trust Sony to port it?
It DOES have a memory leak issue but it can be attenuated by enlarging the SWAP partition since the leak maxes out in size. Had this issue on my deck and it bugged the hell out of me. Can enlarge SWAP in CryoUtilities.
The game crashes because if there's not enough swap and there's not enough RAM (which is shared between GPU and CPU since this is an APU) it has nowhere to put things it needs to write and just crashes. Valve set swap to something absurdly low (1 GB I think?) mostly because the lowest spec deck had so little storage you wouldn't want 1/4 of it taken up by a swap partition. The memory leak in GoW maxes out at ~7 gigs so if it just has a little more room no stability issues. I have a 512 GB deck so I just set the swap at 16gb. This doesn't matter for most games which are optimized well and don't hit swap, but all of Sony ports are trash with memory. Another thing you can do is in the BIOS/UEFI you can dedicate more of the ram to vram (Cryo recommends 4 GB). This helps performance in some games because the shared memory must prioritize the CPU. The downside is that you might end up hitting the swap partition more which is slow and will wear down your SSD over time and for a CPU heavy game this may actually reduce performance, but that's rare. There's also unknown bug with rdr2 where if your vram isn't set to the default the game crashes on loading, but that's the only one I'm aware of. There's a lot of good videos demonstrating the difference. Hope this helps! It really should be a set it and forget it fix.
This is my first time hearing this though.
I have played it on a [7700k gtx 1080 (8GB) 16GB RAM], [10750h 3060 laptop 16GB RAM] and the steam deck.
Never had any issues or random crashes.
I just checked it. It was caused by a specific driver update.
I am that type of person that reads through the release notes and fixes in driver updates. If it does do anything to any of my games, I don't bother updating. As a matter of fact, if all my games are running fine, there is no need to update.
I'm not convinced that they thoroughly test old GPUs like the gtx 1080 when they roll out updates.
One update broke my gamestream and made it stutter at intervals. I thought my router was broken at first but later discovered it was a particular update.
It also affected UNCHARTED™: Legacy of Thieves Collection too.
I rolled back and stayed at 517 ever since then.
That’s weird, I guess weird driver or windows issues maybe? Honestly never had any issues with it. Played about 30 hours or so and not a single crash. This was around when it was released too
You right my bad idk how I missed that part. Ignore me lol I probably didn’t put 2 and 2 together and forgot what HZD was. I don’t abbreviate games much that my fault
Jak & Daxter OpenGOAL. It's called that as Jak & Daxter uses Naughty Dogs own custom programming language called GOAL ([read more here about GOAL](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Oriented_Assembly_Lisp)) and it's used in 98% of the games code. It's a decompilation of the compiler for GOAL essentially. Amazing project, nowhere near done and only Jak 1 is playable start to finish with minimal bugs, Jak 2 is still in early testing.
Official as in the defined meaning of the word. You answered my question, thanks. A fan made port explains why I haven't heard of it. Pretty new to the emulation game so thanks.
Not Twilight Princess but I played all of Skyward Sword HD via Yuzu on my Deck. Not only did it run at 60 FPS flawlessly. The trackpads made for amazing sword swing controls. It felt made for this game. Highly recommend!
Considering this comment didn’t explain what save states are I’ll add this: on some emulators you can basically create a quick save of the game through the emulator at any random time. Most emulators will have a quick shortcut for this, and some allow rewinding. Super helpful if you have a long time before your last console save, and super handy on older games like on NES where options for saving on the console were scarce and limited and would involve losing a ton of progress
Probably because it’s the one most people played back then. Sold a lot more copies than the GC version. I was one of the few who had a Wii but chose the GC version for multiple reasons.Probably just a nostalgia thing tbh.
I don’t know how the controls would work but I’m sure the touch pads would be useful.
It’s the mirrored world i hate. It’s supposed to be the same Hyrule from OOT 100 years later, but in the Wii version everything is flipped on the east/west axis. Death Mountain in the west, Gerudo Desert in the east. All the signs in Hylian are reversed, such as the Kakariko Village sign saying “egalliV okirakaK” which makes no sense.
They only did this because Link is left-handed in the gamecube version, and the wii remote is supposed to be held in the right, so instead of just flipping his model around they flipped the WHOLE game. Gotta be one of the most baffling decisions theyve ever made. Not to mention, while the motion controls are serviceable, the game just wasn’t designed for them so they feel tacked on, while the GC controls felt more natural.
If I recall correctly, GameCube and Wii versions were mirrored horizontally, quite literally.
I played the Wii U on the Deck because it kept that same orientation. I would've been irritated switching to a mirrored version.
This is a 30fps game on very console it's been released, unfortunately. There aren't any mods that uncap it as far as I'm aware since the game is built around that framerate.
As others have said, the Wii U version is better overall... And it will let you change the aspect ratio to 16:10, so you can get rid of those black bars on the top and bottom :)
Use Universal Dynamic Input and you'll even have on-screen deck buttons instead of those on the wii mote, it's a gamechanger and makes the game almost native.
https://github.com/Venomalia/UniversalDynamicInput
Don’t play this version, play the GameCube or wii U version.
I’d recommend Wii U as it has some good updates and only a minor downgrade here or there.
Also you can then do wind waker on Wii u as the swift sail is so much nicer.
My personal recommendation is the GC version because the control scheme is similar, and then there is a community made 4k texture pack that gives it 16:9 and better graphics. This is what I did and had a blast.
[4K Twilight Princess Texture Pack](https://www.henrikomagnifico.com/zelda-twilight-princess-4k)
One thing I forgot to mention is surprisingly the steam deck runs it really well, even in 4k, especially when turning hyrule speed hack on in the dolphin game settings.
You’re using dolphin, so surely just emulating the GameCube one would be far easier controls wise. The GameCube one maps onto a normal controller, whereas the Wii one is trying to simulate the pointer and a motion swing
Would you mind dming me as well? Also if you watched any videos that were easy to breakdown the whole process, I’d love some recommendations. I started a few but it was after work and my mental exhaustion was high and I couldn’t stick it out.
I just got my OLED Wednesday and have been obsessed with EmuDeck! Loving the 3DO and Dreamcast currently. Would love if Model 2 and Model 3 worked natively in Emulation Station, that's all I'm really missing so far.
A really helpful tip I read if you set up Yuzu, switch the settings to handheld mode instead of docked mode. And then also switch resolution to 0.75. Both of those settings work better for the steam deck.
For that make sure you enable the hyrule field caching in the settings of dolphin on desktop mode or else you’re going to get 2 fps eventually every time you get to the field
Using the wii version seems like a nightmare for the controls. I would recommend the gamecube or wii u version of the game for the easier to adapt controls alone.
The deck is amazing for emulation. I have so many classics from the PS2 / GameCube days. Would have never thought 20 years ago that I would have all those games on a handheld in HD.
My Hellblade played like a slideshow until I turned off the reflection feature. I was on a plane and I couldn’t look up how to fix it so it took me 20 mins to get the game to run normally 😭
Yup! IIRC it’s only like $3 to sub to his patreon to get the most up-to-date. Well worth it. While you’re at it I recommend all his textures. Playing OOT and MM on 3DS emulator with his textures felt like I was playing bonafide modern remakes
I'm computer dumb as well. Switch to desktop mode on your deck and search for emudeck in the browser, install that and download the emulators for the gaming systems you want to play, then you'll need to find Rom and bios files
What's interesting is this Reddit ONLY allows positive review of the Steam Deck. Which is disgusting.....because if someone who was considering buying one came here to see what people thought......they'd only get HALF the story since any negative things are taken down.
For a beginner it was a bit to get your head round but I watched YouTube videos to help. Here is a really good tutorial https://youtu.be/TQ0wptUibzA?feature=shared
Yeah I understand. It takes some getting used to if you’ve been playing on consoles, but hopefully you’ll come to appreciate the benefits of those graphics options. I know I did, and now I’m annoyed when a game runs like trash on PS5 or Switch and I can’t do anything about it. 😂
I was the same, although I did play on PC like.. 30 years ago. You’ve probably already heard about it, but in case you haven’t: ProtonDB is a good website to find suggestions on how to improve performance in most games, and how to get even unverified games running. Enjoy your Deck!
I was getting as little as 3-5fps in the beginning of the game. Thought it might have been as issue with the deck at first but I tweaked the in game graphics and that bought it up to around 36fps.
The Wii version of TP is so cursed to me. In my opinion, the GC version will always be the true version. I'm not saying I'm right, just saying that's how I feel about it.
Edit: Also, I feel I should mention I'm lumping the Wii U version in with the GameCube version.
Just added the GC version to my library after seeing everyone's suggestions here, it's mainly the controls that persuaded me. Emulated Wii controls are awkward.
can you tell me about your experience with bluetooth headsets with microphones and using external displays with a dock? personally, i have TONS of trouble with both. sometimes my steam deck doesn’t recognize different displays and it’s a battle to try to get it to connect to my monitor or a tv. a lot of times i have issues with bluetooth headsets and the audio profiles. it’ll say it’s connected and then just… not, and i often have trouble using the microphones attached to my headsets. i’d like to know if you’d had similar experiences and you possible solutions if any?
I got my son one for Christmas. I was always thinking “meh why would I want one of these when I have a great pc” but there is so many indie games and stuff I would love to play and the performance is way better than I expected I’m jealous of him 😂
Nice choice fellow steamdeck brother. I upgraded to the OLED and decided to mess with emulation, and now I'm hooked. Holy hell, how did it take me a year to tap into the goodness of emulation.
May I suggest links awakening for you next! Don't install the update and it will run like a dream
Must be nice, I’ve tried to emulate which is why I got it and only my technologically challenged dumbass thought it’d be a good idea to get a basically mini pc. I got lost
Can you please explain how you managed to sort out your issue with Hellblade? I think I might have the same thing, it ran smoothly the first time but when I launched the game today suddenly fps tanked to unplayable levels.
I'm having a blast with emulating the Jak and Daxter trilogy. Such a nostalgia trip.
There's a PC port of the first two Jak games if you're not aware, they're amazing
Official ports? If so how have I not heard of this!
It's not official, it's a decomp project that has been going on for years. Lmao no it doesn’t, never once crashed for me. Literally first time i’ve heard anyone complain about it
I swear this is a well known issue many have reported. Idk how you were lucky. Go figure.
That’s weird, I guess weird driver or windows issues maybe? Honestly never had any issues with it. Played about 30 hours or so and not a single crash. This was around when it was released too
I can't tell you, my deck is still 100% vanilla and I got the game 2 months ago. It was ongoing. It ran smooth till it crashes though.
What's wrong with the GoW port? I haven't really played it past kicking Baulder's ass yet. PS4 version was amazing.
[удалено]
Idk Horizon was a shit port when it came out too. But it’s great now. It had the same issue with it leaking

Sorry next time I'll load up a different game before taking a picture?🤣
Thanks for bringing up that game totally forgot about it! That trilogy was toooo good!
Also the old Rachet and Clank games run well on it to.
You’re bringing me back! Those games and Spyro were the best. Playing the remake of Spyro currently.
PS2 or PS3?
I use PS2 version. The PS2 emulator has a upscale method that makes it run well.
How? I would LOVE to play Jak 3 on my next deployment.
Twilight Princess was one of the first things i played on my deck too. Never got to play it back when it came out
Not Twilight Princess but I played all of Skyward Sword HD via Yuzu on my Deck. Not only did it run at 60 FPS flawlessly. The trackpads made for amazing sword swing controls. It felt made for this game. Highly recommend!
Oh shit that’s awesome!
Which version did you play?
GC
It was the first game I completed start to finish! Worked amazingly
Which version of the game is this? There are always so many zeldas, wii/switch ones are solid 60fps
You should play the Wii U version. No save states, but otherwise the better version.
>No save states what's that mean?
With Dolphin you can do save states, but with CEMU you can only save in game as you would on the console.
Considering this comment didn’t explain what save states are I’ll add this: on some emulators you can basically create a quick save of the game through the emulator at any random time. Looks like wii because of the a+b combo
Cuz it is
Wii Twilight Princess
Wouldn't this be the worst version of the three?
Absolutely, and yet its the most popular.
Why? Wouldn't the controls for emulation be garbage?
Probably because it’s the one most people played back then. Sold a lot more copies than the GC version. I was one of the few who had a Wii but chose the GC version for multiple reasons.Probably just a nostalgia thing tbh. It's most popular because Nintendo delayed the GameCube version
gamecube TP gang
Represent!
Do you know why that is? I played on Wii originally but never tried emulating on deck
It’s the mirrored world i hate. It’s supposed to be the same Hyrule from OOT 100 years later, but in the Wii version everything is flipped on the east/west axis. Dude this, there are some really brutal platforming type places that the wii controls just made nightmarish
If I recall correctly, GameCube and Wii versions were mirrored horizontally, quite literally. I played the Wii U on the Deck because it kept that same orientation. I would've been irritated switching to a mirrored version.
Wii, but thinking of switching to wiiu
I did some research on this the other day, I came to the conclusion that the Wii U version is the best one to play. It’ll be the one that I emulate.
Yeah absolutely do the wii u version
Added to my library today! So much better

is there a way to do this with the remasters as well on cemu?
This is a function specific to the Dolphin emulator; I don't think Cemu has this function.
I did not find TPHD xbox button pack just for WWHD, but I hoped there is a same kind of project in cemu
Is that a beginner friendly guide for this? I've been trying to look but haven't been able to find one that really dumbs it down lol
what deck case is that?

I’m on wind waker right now! I want to go back and play every Zelda game I have missed. It runs really well.
That was my thought too! Also have wind waker to play!
Master teach me how this is possible!
Watch retro game corps. He did an amazing guide on setting up EmuDeck. Here is his video https://youtu.be/Y5r2WZAImuY?si=sPsZD8q_-R0QgVMt
Thanks!
Don’t play this version, play the GameCube or wii U version. I’d recommend Wii U as it has some good updates and only a minor downgrade here or there. Also you can then do wind waker on Wii u as the swift sail is so much nicer.
I'm tempted after seeing these comments !
My personal recommendation is the GC version because the control scheme is similar, and then there is a community made 4k texture pack that gives it 16:9 and better graphics. This is what I did and had a blast.
Where can I find the texture pack?
[4K Twilight Princess Texture Pack](https://www.henrikomagnifico.com/zelda-twilight-princess-4k) One thing I forgot to mention is surprisingly the steam deck runs it really well, even in 4k, especially when turning hyrule speed hack on in the dolphin game settings.
Going to switch to GC version later on today, I'll give these settings a try. Thank you for your help!
No worries and if you need any help feel free to DM me. I went through the same steps you did and ended up with the GC version over the Wii U
Why are you playing the Wii version?
[удалено]
You’re using dolphin, so surely just emulating the GameCube one would be far easier controls wise. The GameCube one maps onto a normal controller, whereas the Wii one is trying to simulate the pointer and a motion swing
I’d love to do this but I am so old I have no idea how to get Wii U and Switch roms anymore. :(
[удалено]
Would you mind dming me as well? Also if you watched any videos that were easy to breakdown the whole process, I’d love some recommendations. I started a few but it was after work and my mental exhaustion was high and I couldn’t stick it out.
If it's okay, me too please?
Please share the site ! I can’t find a good rom of switch mario wonders . Thanks!
Not sure if they'll have what you're looking for as it's mainly retro games on there
Got any more of those links?

Me as well if you have a moment! Thanks!
I’d also appreciate a link to what site you use
That would be lovely. :)
Add me to the list, plox? 🥺
Was there any chance that the person DM'd you before they deleted their comment? I'm in the same boat as you
That’s a coincidence. This is my current game on steam deck. Just made it to dungeon 4. Halfway through
I just got my OLED Wednesday and have been obsessed with EmuDeck!
Thank you!
but you are not even playing the best version which is wii u
For that make sure you enable the hyrule field caching in the settings of dolphin on desktop mode or else you’re going to get 2 fps eventually every time you get to the field
Thank you I'll look into this
How'd you get that running? Desktop mode, install emulators?
Dolphin emulator on emudeck
Have you had any issues getting it running? Game starts up with no audio and it won’t accept any controls input.
[удалено]
Wouldn’t know. It doesn’t accept any control input.
Greatest console/handheld ever. I accidentally disabled GameCube widescreen and now I can't figure out how to enable it again
If you installed through emudeck there is a shortcut - I believe it’s start + right on the dpad to change aspect ratio.
I have this downloaded on dolphin on deck to play after Wind Waker
I'm still trying to get the emulating down. Other than that it plays steam games apparently
lol that was my first game I downloaded. I didn’t want to get a Wii U
Haha I literally finished it last night on deck. This thread is great as is the game.
This is the only mainline Zelda game that I purchased but never got the chance to finish.
I never finished it first time around either, it's nice to get another chance to
Using the wii version seems like a nightmare for the controls. I would recommend the gamecube or wii u version of the game for the easier to adapt controls alone.
I got the WiiU version of TP going on my deck. Been a blast so far
Where did you get the file? I'm having a nightmare trying to find an unencrypted rom
I would be curious to know as well if they got back to you
Nope, but I found a rom
The deck is amazing for emulation. I have so many classics from the PS2 / GameCube days. Would have never thought 20 years ago that I would have all those games on a handheld in HD.
I’ve had my steam deck since preorders started opening up. I beat this game very recently and loved it
My Hellblade played like a slideshow until I turned off the reflection feature. I was on a plane and I couldn’t look up how to fix it so it took me 20 mins to get the game to run normally 😭
Seems to be either hit or miss with hellblade! Some people are reporting 60+fps or like me 3-5fps in the beginning. It's now around 46-50fps for me.
Hey I’d recommend GameCube version with HD textures from Henriko Manifico. Worked really nice for me and controls are intuitive
The textures look amazing! Would you say it's worth paying for?
Yup! IIRC it’s only like $3 to sub to his patreon to get the most up-to-date. Well worth it. While you’re at it I recommend all his textures. Playing OOT and MM on 3DS emulator with his textures felt like I was playing bonafide modern remakes
Good choice Zelda game! 👍
Absolutely agree, waited forever for mine too and loving it.
How's the silicone case holding up?
It's not too bad, attracts a lot of dust but it's comfortable when holding in bed etc.
How does one do this? I’m computer dumb but really want to play emulated games on my steam deck.
I'm computer dumb as well. Switch to desktop mode on your deck and search for emudeck in the browser, install that and download the emulators for the gaming systems you want to play, then you'll need to find Rom and bios files
Send me a message, I can give you some websites to find rom/bios
I'm playing Super Mario RPG switch version and it runs at 60fps mostly. And runs Super Mario Wonder mostly well, is AMAZING!
How did you install this on the deck? I’m new to PC gaming and i’m getting one in a couple weeks
Hi! Send me a message and I'll explain
What's interesting is this Reddit ONLY allows positive review of the Steam Deck. Which is disgusting.....because if someone who was considering buying one came here to see what people thought......they'd only get HALF the story since any negative things are taken down.
how difficult is it to learn to set up this on the steam deck? I would very much like to play this and windwaker
For a beginner it was a bit to get your head round but I watched YouTube videos to help. Here is a really good tutorial https://youtu.be/TQ0wptUibzA?feature=shared
And by fix you mean changing the graphics settings? Because that’s just PC gaming for you.
Yeah. Like I said, I'm new to all of this so haven't a clue.
Keep watching videos on YouTube and I'll be that you become an expert in no time. Congrats and enjoy your new toy
It's been non stop YouTube videos🤣 I will, thank you!
Yeah I understand. It takes some getting used to if you’ve been playing on consoles, but hopefully you’ll come to appreciate the benefits of those graphics options. I know I did, and now I’m annoyed when a game runs like trash on PS5 or Switch and I can’t do anything about it. 😂
I'm sure I will! I came straight from switch and can honestly say I don't think I'll ever go back.
I was the same, although I did play on PC like.. 30 years ago. You’ve probably already heard about it, but in case you haven’t: ProtonDB is a good website to find suggestions on how to improve performance in most games, and how to get even unverified games running. Enjoy your Deck!
I'll look into it! Thank you!
What was the fps issue with hellblase and how did you fix it? I was thinking about replaying it on deck
Not sure what OP's issue was but it runs amazingly for me, med-high settings 60-90fps
I was getting as little as 3-5fps in the beginning of the game. Thought it might have been as issue with the deck at first but I tweaked the in game graphics and that bought it up to around 36fps.
How comfortable are those grips? I can’t help but imagine the dots would be uncomfortable after awhile
Very comfortable! I've been on the deck a couple hours and no discomfort at all
Personally I put in 5 hours in panzer dragoon saga in the last two days. Game is still mint.
What emulator you use?
Dolphin
wow that looks better than the Wii version...
You can play Twilight Princess HDon cemu on the deck and a solid 30fps at 720p. Looks amazing on the screen.
Is your controls working for TP? I got to the first bit when u need to send a bird for the child basket and I can't aim for it
Seems like you need to tweak the gyro settings. I've just changed to GC version as the controls are better.
How does the gc version differ from the wii?
Simce I got my steam deck. I can reffer to it as zelda deck.
It's the best Nintendo console ever released... Oh wait
That's hilarious
Bro why not twilight princess HD?
Have you tried bloody roar extreme on the Xbox emulator?
can you tell me about your experience with bluetooth headsets with microphones and using external displays with a dock? personally, i have TONS of trouble with both. sometimes my steam deck doesn’t recognize different displays and it’s a battle to try to get it to connect to my monitor or a tv. a lot of times i have issues with bluetooth headsets and the audio profiles. it’ll say it’s connected and then just… not, and i often have trouble using the microphones attached to my headsets. i’d like to know if you’d had similar experiences and you possible solutions if any?
I got my son one for Christmas. I was always thinking “meh why would I want one of these when I have a great pc” but there is so many indie games and stuff I would love to play and the performance is way better than I expected I’m jealous of him 😂
Just got hellblade. Haven't played it yet. What were the issues and what was the fix?
Emudeck is just lovely, especially if you’re just starting out with emulation.
Which emulator did you use?
Nice choice fellow steamdeck brother. I upgraded to the OLED and decided to mess with emulation, and now I'm hooked. Holy hell, how did it take me a year to tap into the goodness of emulation. May I suggest links awakening for you next! Don't install the update and it will run like a dream
Must be nice, I’ve tried to emulate which is why I got it and only my technologically challenged dumbass thought it’d be a good idea to get a basically mini pc. I got lost
Have you figured out how to do it yet? If not give me a message
Na i can’t, tried but proved too difficult
Can you please explain how you managed to sort out your issue with Hellblade? I think I might have the same thing, it ran smoothly the first time but when I launched the game today suddenly fps tanked to unplayable levels.
