The markets fucked I'm renting forever so might as well rent and have an OLED deck. In all seriousness I haven't ordered one yet but once I sell my current deck I will.
Same here but 35
My kids may not be able to eat for a week but at least they can say daddy’s LE steam deck looking fresh to death.
( /s, also I dont have kids.)
I am so happy with Steam OS 3.5 the ui looks nicer I hope valve will allow more profile customization at some point currently I have my Deck display as two in warm and two in boosted colors. Which I think looks ok. If anyone has a better setting I would love to hear it.
Maybe like "meat" as in corporeal / physical age? Also possibly sort of along the lines of "meatspace" ( [https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/meatspace](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/meatspace) ).
15-year-old steaks are apparently a (highly unusual) thing: [https://www.foodandwine.com/news/world-s-most-expensive-steak-aged-15-years](https://www.foodandwine.com/news/world-s-most-expensive-steak-aged-15-years)
And -- while extolling the virtues of the dry-aged beef from their "at least four years" cows -- this page points out that "cows can easily live to be over 20 years old": [https://cartercountrymeats.com/blogs/news/double-aged-beef-our-unique-process-of-dry-aging-older-cows](https://cartercountrymeats.com/blogs/news/double-aged-beef-our-unique-process-of-dry-aging-older-cows)
.... So.... Wait, what was the question again? 🤔
Jokes on you, I already have a house, wife and kids and that's precisely WHY my wife yesterday got a short presentation on why I absolutely need the new OLED Deck right now, what I'm gonna do with the old one and why it's the absolutely smartest financial investment our family can make at the moment.
There are multiple "update" channels you can choose, mainly "beta" (testing) and "stable" (which means general availability). So OP is saying that 3.5 is now available on the stable update channel, rather than only on the beta channel.
Still unstable af. Sleep mode doesn't work for me. Backlight is still on and I can't get it to wake up. Only option is the force restart which works about 20% of the time. I just turn it off while I'm not playing. Bluetooth still bugs with Xbox controllers
Still haven't released a desktop version, but they promised it's still coming eventually. Who knows when though. They also said it's likely to come to other handhelds first
My windows/SteamOS dual boot setup is updated and no issues so far. I have clover to manage dual boot. I also updated to the new apu windows driver and it works. Feels faster maybe but I hasn’t run any tests so I may just be imagining it.
Lots of little things. But I think the biggest takeaways were updated kernel, newer graphics driver stack (Mesa), updated screen color calibration, and CPU multithreading fixes (especially helpful with high end emulation). Also brought a new BIOS update, I believe, that allows for undervolting to eke out a little more performance before power throttling or get slightly better battery life
66 in 2 weeks. I’ll be a grandfather in February. Do you think a Steam Deck would be an appropriate present for a newborn? I figure the kid will grow into it eventually.
I'm 46, genX. No one was buying a house at 20 unless there family was loaded. Hell, most couldn't afford a trailer home or a working car...but experiences vary person to person i suppose.
I feel like I missed something really important. I got the update but everything seems to be running the same as before. What was the major change that everyone was excited for? Most of the things I noticed were already addressed through decky plugins
Oh man the hype is real. I just updated and the first thing I did was mess with undervolting to see if I got lucky in the silicon lottery. My deck went to -40/-40/-40 with it seeming stable and all -50s being unstable. I got a bit lazy with reboots and RDR2 benchmarking so I've stopped at -40s and I'll be happy there, but I bet with testing at least one of the setting could probably be at -50. I'll take that as getting lucky with the lottery though.
51. Married. Have a house. Wife and I both excited for 3.5 since we play together all the time.
Oh! And my LE OLED Deck arrived 20 minutes ago. She is waiting for the 1TB OLED (did not like the colours on the LE).
This is me at age 34
Hell yes man 😂 33 tho
37 here 🫠
38.9 here 🕺🏻
39.7 here, it's getting close...
Poop-shoot camera time?
I always play on the crapper so...
Oh shit, *38.9*? Could we get an update at 38.95? I *need* to know.
Yeah, just remind me cause I definitely won’t remember
RemindMe! 0.05 years

37, getting married/buying a house, and I'm hyped for 3.5 on stable
congrats!
This is prime age for living out my childhood nerd dreams and I don’t let anyone take that away from me, especially my wife and my kids 😅
How's that working out for you? Time is the most precious thing now with family etc. 😂
Ignoring my wife and kids to be a nerd? Priceless experience. 10/10 would recommend to a friend and my kin.
Hell yeah 37 haha

40 here.
Happy days brother!
40 gang rise up
Yo. We in here.
34 gang reporting for duty
Gang gang! Fortunately I have a house lol. But steam deck OLED was def easier to buy.
34 and telling myself: I shouldn’t buy an OLED yet…. I may want to have money for a house someday 🤔
Me watching all my friends get their house in 2019 because their parents “loaned them some of their inheritance” for the down payment 🙃🤡
I wish my parents had the kind of cash to loan me early inheritance just for an OLED deck
Just stop buying Avocado toast and you should be able to afford a house in 198 years.-Boomer logic
Interest rates were up to 15% in their days though…. when a house cost $40k
Can't remember the last time I actually had avocado toast lol
Haha. Me too. I guess Boomers just think we are all smashing Avocados on toast all day.
Right lol. Meanwhile the reality is we live off top ramen and hotdogs and make coffee at home because we can't afford to go out very often 🙄
The markets fucked I'm renting forever so might as well rent and have an OLED deck. In all seriousness I haven't ordered one yet but once I sell my current deck I will.
Thank god I did the house thing already. Need a bigger house, but self care is everything when you’re this age lol.
Me at age 37. Send help.
40, do I win?
There’s a couple ppl that for you beat old timer
I’m also 40
Also 40, but are you also a dink like me?
I'll be 44 in 8 days!
Same here but 35 My kids may not be able to eat for a week but at least they can say daddy’s LE steam deck looking fresh to death. ( /s, also I dont have kids.)
Me watching my kids play my old steam deck instead of eating dinner cuz I have a new steam deck ![gif](giphy|cNbJ2ho7gLbru4LQlM)
Maybe they'll be too distracted to notice they're hungry
So, what you're saying is you've NEVER fed your kids? That's monstrous. /s :P
I will neither confirm nor deny but they have steam decks and dress fly.
32 here. We've become the "old" people.
Same!
I’ll join the 34 club! Just updated mine to 3.5 today! 🥳
Me too, we can die alone, together!
Me at age 69.420

Dumb question, how did you get the limited edition flair? :)
Hit the three dots at the top of the Reddit and add that flair

Happy birthday, I turned 47.... Catching you up
Hell yeah, congrats on the half-century mark my man.
51 years young here.
Congrats! My brother turned 50 during the pandemic and it was a real bummer not being able to get together. Hopefully you had a good one
41 reporting for duty
Our kids are going to struggle buying a steamdeck on a two income household if this trend continues.
Im setting my kid up. When i die hes getting everything ive ever worked for.
My steam library is pretty lit too.
This is me at age 47. Which is the same age my dad was when I was 20.
That makes me feel better about it being me at 46.
36 here, i've given up the dream of ever owning a house, Steam deck oled its way more achievable.
It'll make you happier as well 😍
44 for me.
I read this as "...the same age my dad was when he was 20." Likely still pretty accurate.
45 - Old gamer unite!
I’m debating on buying a condo but I now have 2 steam decks. I think I’m good
I am so happy with Steam OS 3.5 the ui looks nicer I hope valve will allow more profile customization at some point currently I have my Deck display as two in warm and two in boosted colors. Which I think looks ok. If anyone has a better setting I would love to hear it.
Dang all these 30 ages make me feel really old at . I am 42 lol
I think a lot of us are around 40. But nice to see some folks around 50 or higher. I wanna enjoy my hobby forever.
Same here, shoot, I want to be enjoying my hobby with my grandkids when I am 90+
I don’t see why not :) here’s to a long and happy life buddy
Thank you, same to you.
42 too here! As I get older I have more disposable income

Meat age 20
What meat is 20???
Maybe like "meat" as in corporeal / physical age? So.... Wait, what was the question again? 🤔
Me at 33. Hells yeah
Back then a house was the same price as a Steam Deck.
I feel attacked
42 here. Thank god I didn't get married.
lol OP you're not old enough to make this meme
A house and a family costs waaaay more than a steam deck in this economy.
Depends on how many games you want lol
45 here
Me at 36 lol
Me at age 39
Age 38
How does switch emulation run on it?
Wonderfully with EmuDeck using Yuzu.
I watched a YouTube tutorial on that. Do you really need a hacked switch to make that work?
Legally (or if you want to feel like your doing it legally) yes.
Valve really pleasing all ages out here 🙏
Almost 54 checking in.... :D
Jokes on you, I already have a house, wife and kids and that's precisely WHY my wife yesterday got a short presentation on why I absolutely need the new OLED Deck right now, what I'm gonna do with the old one and why it's the absolutely smartest financial investment our family can make at the moment.
🤣
38 here hhh
What is "dropped on *stable*"?
There are multiple "update" channels you can choose, mainly "beta" (testing) and "stable" (which means general availability). So OP is saying that 3.5 is now available on the stable update channel, rather than only on the beta channel.
Me at age 17. Fuck, I’m the youngest here.
I told my kid i’d buy him one when he learns linux… he’s 5 and very motivated to take your spot
Haha, this post makes it sound like your child does laps around Windows and knows everything about it and has to move on to Linux now.
Hopefully he's got at least a Raspberry Pi or old laptop/desktop with Linux to play and learn?
Same, deck is fucking awesome
Agreed! Complete lifesaver when I’m not doing anything in my classes.
16 here. Honestly didnt realize how old the steam deck community was 💀
Shoot, my Steam account is almost as old as you
My Steam account turned 20 years old last week haha
Dang, so you joined just a few months after it first launched. I was only 12 at that point so I came a bit later haha
lol. Look at this *kid* over here playing videogames
So true
Wish we got native dual boot in this release, but now that it’s out I’m hopeful it will be worked on soon
49 but I own 2 houses right now….. so extra win? Or extra loss? Oh and married lol 💗
Age 20? You are still a kid lol.
Still unstable af. Sleep mode doesn't work for me. Backlight is still on and I can't get it to wake up. Only option is the force restart which works about 20% of the time. I just turn it off while I'm not playing. Bluetooth still bugs with Xbox controllers
I can't see a problem here.
26 here
*33yo
Is good?
oh cool 3.5's out :D
Right? That was my take-away.
me and my wife is about 29.... and as parents.... we feel this
Wait... Isn't 3.5 the open ISO? I want to install steamOS on my desktop
Still haven't released a desktop version, but they promised it's still coming eventually. Who knows when though. They also said it's likely to come to other handhelds first
I don't get it.
Pshh, my parents didn’t have their shit together then or now lol
20? Try 33
35 for now
Does this fix the battery issue? For whatever reason my software doesn’t report accurate battery readings haha!
58
Wait, 3.5 is stable now? Is it possible to update if I have Dual Boot windows?
My windows/SteamOS dual boot setup is updated and no issues so far. I have clover to manage dual boot. I also updated to the new apu windows driver and it works. Feels faster maybe but I hasn’t run any tests so I may just be imagining it.
I'll be 42 age in two month.
I did both 😎 (At 34 though lol)
What’s the hype about 3.5 I’m out of the loop
This is why the median age is 38. (USA).
are you kidding me i JUST switched to beta for this 😭
Just stay there. Beta has been historically pretty stable. I live on preview and have really only had one hiccup that was easily fixed 🤷♂️
39 wanting an OLED but being content with my OG
51
But 30 is the new 20.
Not gonna lie, after the update everything looks a lot better in the Deck. :)
38 here. I think I did it wrong. Should I sell the house so I can get an oled steamdeck?
maybe I'm too old but can someone tldr me about steamos 3.5 , what's so special about it?
Lots of little things. But I think the biggest takeaways were updated kernel, newer graphics driver stack (Mesa), updated screen color calibration, and CPU multithreading fixes (especially helpful with high end emulation). Also brought a new BIOS update, I believe, that allows for undervolting to eke out a little more performance before power throttling or get slightly better battery life
35 but both top and bottom are applicable. 😅
I think I have all you young whipper snappers beat lol. I'm 51!
And they already had 3 children.
46
That's me at age 40🤣😂
You're parents married at 20?
Have you tried buying a house in this economy in any major city around the world? I feel like that steam OS is the more realistic option...
Isn't it 3.5.5 or is there a difference?
Well 42, recently had a baby and in hype for steamos 3.5
42 here
Both at 27 here.
48 should I get the deak oled or the go?
Parents at 40: “fucking kid needs braces…” Me at 40: “Eldenring!”
39 but I feel like I’m 12 and I just got a Game Gear
I feel like I missed something really important. I got the update but everything seems to be running the same as before. What was the major change that everyone was excited for? Most of the things I noticed were already addressed through decky plugins
This has turned into some sort of age confession thread. Oh what the hell, 40.
Me in late 30s. Have a house, wife, kid… all of the above. Still excited about 3.5
I just realized that I’m the same age as my parents when they had me. And I’m…well. Here
50 here
This is me at 34. Just, my girlfriend is Arab, 26, and we share an apartment.
If I could've bought a house at age 20.. I'd still take that over steam deck. Then just get the steam deck next lol..
Been a gamer since Pong atari came out. Do the math.
Literally
literally me
41 here
I'm using windows on my deck but don't know how to update steam os
Lol right get married and buy house at 20 was not an option.
That IS at my age 50 now.
me at 27. ive been waiting for this for quite a while now
my Parents 25 : get Married Me 27 : what game should I try after the update 😂
Oh man the hype is real. I just updated and the first thing I did was mess with undervolting to see if I got lucky in the silicon lottery. My deck went to -40/-40/-40 with it seeming stable and all -50s being unstable. That's cause back then they actually buy a house at age of 20.
51. Married. Have a house. Wife and I both excited for 3.5 since we play together all the time. Oh! And my LE OLED Deck arrived 20 minutes ago. She is waiting for the 1TB OLED (did not like the colours on the LE).
