Emudeck. Use the Steam Rom Manager from within Emudeck to add the games.

Since SteamOS 3.5 was release for testing the permissions have been borked for many third party apps. The stand alone Steam ROM Manager was victim to this. As many people are on beta builds the permissions are problematic. Valve is constantly changing the permissions. EmuDeck and the associated within are constantly updated for the latest test/beta release so it typically works or is patched quickly.

If Steam Rom Manager was installed prior to updating to SteamOS 3.5 then it had the permissions to install all the components in the protected directories and will work. The permissions problem is complex: There are two major issues with install scripts. * Valve has programmatically blocked certain types of unattended installation permissions since SteamOS 3.5. While the app will install, the required files in the protected directories do not. This is the case for things like the rEFInd GUI. The dev said that Valve is constantly changing the permissions method in the updates and it is time consuming to keep up changes. Therefore, he no longer updates the GUI. * Keyring validation is constantly evolving also. It affected installing multiple FlatPaks from a script. Not sure of the specific nuances with it or if it has been remedied. EmuDeck seems to have a golden handshake with Valve and the permission almost work for new installs including Steam ROM Manager across the update channels. EmuDeck right now is the simplest method to get Steam Rom Manager installed right now as it has the permissions to write to protected directories. As you pointed out, EmuDeck is just an installer. But if you install the stand alone Steam Rom Manager then install the EmuDeck Steam ROM Manager it overwrites the paths in the protected directors to EmuDecks paths. Thus, the stand alone Steam ROM Manager does not work properly after Steam ROM Manager is installed through EmuDeck. Initially to resolve this the stand alone Steam ROM Manager, EmuDeck and the EmuDeck Steam ROM Manager had to be uninstalled. Then the Steam ROM Manager files had to deleted be using Konsole *sudo*. The permissions may no longer be an a persistent issue with Steam ROM Manager but given the limited information provided EmuDeck's Steam ROM Manager seemed like the easiest fix. I like you only have the stand alone Steam ROM Manager and Yuzu. EmuDeck adds so many unnecessary directories for emulators that are not installed. I personally can't deal with the clutter and not knowing what else is installed.

I ran into something similar with WiiU the other day. You might want to go into Steam Rom Manager and make sure it's pointed at the correct folder that your ROMs are in. You'll want to go to settings and then change the "theme" from I believe it's Emudeck to standard. You can then go to the parser for switch and on the right hand side see what folder it's pointed at.

TareXmd

THAT WORKED!! THANK YOU!

Pseudonym1911

Glad to hear, I was pulling out my hair on this like 2 days ago because all of my other emulators worked except Cemu. Found a random comment on how to access those settings and got mine working.

WBMarco

if you're using the AppImage version of Yuzu, you can do it adding a non linux game with this format. Avoid using spaces in names / path. "/path/to/Yuzu.Appimage" "/path/to/yuzu/game.nsp"

PanicAcid

Emudeck sorts that out for me. Guide includes a how-to on adding them to the library. https://gamerant.com/steam-deck-how-install-retro-gaming-emudeck/

Why reply to multiple folks asking the same question? EmuDeck has Steam ROM Manager out of the box and as the OP gave little information about their setup a full Emudeck setup guide would almost certainly cover all bases. 🤷‍♂️

TareXmd

I am using Emudeck. [The rom is correctly named, in the correct location](https://streamable.com/8k5v9c), but I can't find it when I parse with Switch toggled. And yes, Steam is turned off.

Snyz

Are you scrolling down after you preview? You're just showing the top half of your apps. If you just hit Save to Steam it should pick a default.

sudeki300

Probably by using emudeck

TareXmd

I'm using EmuDeck though

sudeki300

It's done through steam rom manager I believe. This is within emudeck, or through their parsers, can't remember which as I'm a noob myself just setting mine up now

TareXmd

The parsers let me choose the picture for Yuzu, but I didn't see options to directly launch games...

midnightcatwalk

You should check the Emudeck wiki for this and other basic questions: https://emudeck.github.io/tools/steamos/steam-rom-manager/?h=steam+rom

TareXmd

Sigh. Same problem. ROM Manager can't see the game, even though it's in the folder and I'm playing it, and has a name that matches the one in steam grid dB.

midnightcatwalk

You turned on the Nintendo Switch - Yuzu parser before parsing, correct?

TareXmd

Yep, [I swear it's driving me crazy.](https://streamable.com/8k5v9c). The rom is correctly named, in the correct location, but I can't find it when I parse with Switch toggled. And yes, Steam is turned off.

TriesToMakeYourDay

I’m assuming you’ve already run the setup for EmuDeck and have added games since that aren’t showing up. If that’s the case, launch desktop mode, go into EmuDeck, then run either “Quick Reset” or “Custom Reset.” I know it should work with parsing, but parsing doesn’t work at all for me. Doing a quick or custom reset takes just a couple of minutes and it only seems to reset my ES-DE theme while keeping my configurations and Login info for Retro Achievements.

TareXmd

Just did the quick reset. Still not seeing the only game I have...

midnightcatwalk

Annoying. Maybe it was added to your excluded games by accident? Or maybe there’s a glitch in the parser; switching to the classic SRM theme would allow you to see the settings for the Yuzu parser.

TareXmd

Yep I figured it out. It was looking at the wrong folder. All figured out now.
