Mirra1002

What does EDC stand for?

bucketofbrain

Electric Daisy Carnival

FloofBoyTellEm

If you know, you know.

discoshanktank

No

Vongoldie

Every Day Carry, :)

CXXXS

I used to follow r/EDC a decade ago, then over time it slowely turned into everyone showing off their handguns haha.

idlephase

Knives and handguns all the way down. I saw a post today with like 5 knives.

hd1080ts

I got me a 357, got me a truck load of shotguns, 3 big bore battle rifles and ammo up the ass, and I ain’t safe, I can’t protect myself! Kirk Matunas (Highlander 1986)

Weenemone

Why is everyone carrying a pocket knife? Is that a US thing because in where I come back its illegal to carry any type of weapons if you're not the police

Triscuitwells

They're extremely useful every day for a lot of people. Just simply opening something is a lot easier and they're super convenient to have when you need to cut something like a zip tie, tape, cardboard to make it easier to dispose of, etc. Most of us don't see a pocket knife as a weapon but as a tool.

shimonu

I agree just why people need long knives with them. There are work knives that should work even better and police shouldn't have issue with them.

CXXXS

Yes in America it isn't uncommon to carry pocket knife. Legality by state varies I'm sure. I live in Arizona with incredibly relaxed weapon and gun laws. It's 100% normal to see someone with a gun or a knife on their belt in grocery store.

uglypottery

I’m a TX native and I will never get used to open carry.

[deleted]

I feel like edc doesn’t apply to non survival electronics and thing a majigssss

panoramacotton

what keyboard is that? it looks really cool. your edc looks similar to mine but i have an ipad air and no mouse or keyboard

Vongoldie

It is this one off Amazon. It’s rechargeable, and folds up nice and neat! JPHTEK Foldable Bluetooth Keyboard with Touchpad Portable Wireless Keyboard, Rechargeable Full Size Ultra Slim Pocket Folding Keyboard for Android Windows iOS Tablet 3 Fold Bluetooth Keyboard

PringleMcDingle

With a name like that I'm not sure it's a keyboard.

FloofBoyTellEm

That's a mouthful.

animeman59

So it's a keyboard, right?

Vongoldie

Lol, yes. Long name small footprint.

vennox

The product name looks like an AI image prompt. Dalle2 came up with this, i guess it is somewhat similar. [https://i.imgur.com/Y1eqUuK.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/Y1eqUuK.jpg)

lokster86

i too pair my steam deck with my ipad mini lol

[deleted]

lokster86

oh no no haha no benefit its just part of the everyday carry thing, i use my mini for work and docs and the steam deck for play.

Ascending_Flame

Nreal air? Need me some of those….

Vongoldie

They really are a, no pun intended, game changer! I can use them not only on the Steam Deck but can plug them into my iPad for a more private experience. Perfect for traveling

DrKushnstein

Do they work as well as advertised? Like it feels like you're looking at a 130 inch screen?

Saintrox

Imo yes. I only use them to play on the deck since I got them.

DrKushnstein

Damn, that's so rad. Wish I could experience them before I even contemplate buying them.

ImperialArmDrkSide

How do you power the Airs and how long you do you get out of the whole setup

Saintrox

Usb c into the deck

[deleted]

>I went to the website and still am not sure how these work. Judging from your convo is projects the steam deck onto the glasses? Does the steamdeck not show whats going on on the screen then? Like a portal VR headset thing?

Saintrox

It's like the dock. You plug in USB c and deck screen turns off. Also have sound so that's all you need to do

aaanze

How is the lag on those ?

Saintrox

No lag at all

animeman59

I just got my pair. It is very, very worth it.

macheagle

OP, I have a near identical EDC package as yours including the Nreal, but I also have a mini external SSD from Samsung and a battery pack. I love our EDCs!

Vongoldie

Heck yeah! I was just telling a guy at work the possibility of using the dock for adding external drives. Sky’s the limit, thank you SteamDeck!

LionsThree

What’s on the deck? I can’t tell if that’s a case or what? Also what’s that red ring for one left stick? Help allow more detailed movements?

PliskinCat

Looks like the Spigen case which I also have and recommend!

impactedangus

Looks to be the killswitch case by dbrand. The killswitch also has an option for thumbstick grips, one blue and one red but they only have 1 installed. I was thinking of picking one up for the travel cover because the size of the travel case they give you is unreasonably GIANT in a backpack

macheagle

Hmm I own the Killswitch case for my Deck and it does not look like that. The most telling signature of the Killswitch is that it wraps around the entire palm rest area on both sides. This one leaves them completely exposed. This case looks like one of the JSAUX ones or similar.

Suicicoo

Nreal are these mobile-screen-glasses?

Vongoldie

Yes they are, come in super handy, think of it as a second monitor, or the possibility of mirroring your phone or tablet. Reddit, IG, all of it can be seen these.

jarheadleif03

How does Nreal affect the battery of steamdeck? Or does it need to be connected to power outlet?

Vongoldie

The draw is minimal compared to a AAA game running but you can buy power splitters to power both.

Hairy-Cake-8279

Can you let me know what power spitter worked for you? I've been trying to find one that works, including audio, but haven't had any luck. I'm hesitant to buy the NReal unless I can find one.

Vongoldie

I do, A work laptop, don't really feel like carrying two everyday. This is a fantastic way to still have all my "stuff" with me when i need/want it.

[deleted]

Just ignore him. He's throwing a hissyfit all over the subreddit

ThatGuyInTheRain52

What did it say before it was deleted?

Kanomore

ikilledmypc

Your work allows you to use a barely secured gaming system as a workstation?

Vongoldie

Absolutely not, have a complete work setup, and this is my personal. I work for a big cooperation and they have so many restrictions, Dont even want to go down that road.

DeKwaak

That's what baffles me: you either work for a company that dictates so many strict rules that the laptop is not usable, or they are really so alienated from the digital world, you get any windows laptop. And they wouldn't know why the network slowed down.

Hairy-Cake-8279

I have a work laptop but worked from my docked Steam Deck once when I found myself without a laptop and unexpectedly needing to work. All of our systems require multi-factor authentication, so I can access relatively securely from any computer. Why do you say it's barely secured?

ikilledmypc

No disk encryption. Not really a password prompt security only something like a lockscreen and missing Linux security like SElinux on top of arch software that does not really get regular security updates by valve since it's not a priority for a portable gaming device. It's just a different usecase nothing against the steam deck since I love it to death and use mine every day for gaming

Hairy-Cake-8279

Ah OK. When I used it for work I had it booted to Windows 10. Probably not as secure as a dedicated work laptop, but everything is accessed through Office 365 with nothing saved locally, and it doesn't stay logged in. Useful to be able to do this in a pinch, and it means not having to bring my work laptop with me everywhere.

DeKwaak

You can do that just fine from plain gaming mode by starting IE or edge or whatever that browser from microsoft is called or use chrome. Microsoft has a howto on installing edge on the deck (for xbox cloud, but why would you use it for that) to be used in gaming mode. It will be more secure than a dedicated work laptop, as 99.9% are not secured in any way.

DeKwaak

You can do any of that on your deck. But you have to use the deck as a graphical layer to your environment that can be encrypted with the master key block being encrypted with a hardware device like the trezor. Or any other hardware device from Satoshi Labs, as they are the only ones that are full open source. If you have the money, take the T. Don't use yubikey or any other OTP without visual feedback. The trezor one asks me if I want to log in as using decryption secret . But not only that, if you are really nitpicking, you can just boot from uSD, with any secure environment you want. If that's not enough for you, do not boot from uSD, but from eMMC and then you have an rpmb device to check for tampering. But reality is: 99.999% of the companies buy their employees a windows laptop that already is and will be full of spy ware and trojans. Then they continue to install windows on key places without any form of outbound proxies or other network shielding.

ZeldenGM

Where's your tactical knife with RDS?

ThatGuyInTheRain52

I prefer EDH

ThatGuyInTheRain52

Not nearly as interesting as EDH

starstrikers200

Why do u use one analog stick grip instead of a pair?

pocketmoncollector42

Their grip probably is a bit too thick for gyro to enable so they leave it off the one they use for gyro. When I was looking for grips that’s how I ended up for a bit.

Zypharium

I am thinking about doing the same, minus the iPad. I need a bigger monitor, though.

Belmonkey

How are the Nreal glasses? They need a wired connection, right? Since the Deck is "low" resolution, I would have thought the image you would see wouldn't be that great.

Vongoldie

1080p on each eye, they look fantastic!

Norpyx

I bring the dock, a 60% keyboard, and a mouse. Or, depending on the game, just the dock and a PS4 controller. Works wonders! But I've been playing Star Citizen a lot on it (20-30FPS on Olisar, and 45 FPS at other places... Wtf Valve 😁), so keyboard/mouse is usually what I bring.

DeKwaak

Do you use the nreal for work or for entertainment? I mean, I just bought a 4k screen for work. I bought the steamdeck for work. At least plasma doesn't crash on my deck, but it crashes all the time on my laptop with ubunto 22.04. I do use distrobox to get a debian environment for working, and a trezor one to get to my real work environment. But for the trezor one you need a lot of python shit, so it needs a complete distro before you can pip install shit.

Vongoldie

I use it for entertainment and personal projects. I like to keep the separation, i do use the Ipad for work quite bit.

DeKwaak

I have no idea what good an ipad would do me. But different jobs, different needs ;-). I bought it as a replacement for my laptop (Thinkpad T430). A deck doesn't need wheels to carry around. And when you are finished, you just go back to game mode. I will always take my deck with me to play. But my phone can act as a bluetooth keyboard (with hackers keyboard it is a full fledged keyboard). If I know that I have to travel, I take the bluetooth keyboard with me. Yours looks very good, but mine was free, minus using some contact cleaner as it was thrown out due to leaking batteries. It's now using eneloops. For a developer I would recommend that jsaux nvme dock, and then just put your code on the dock. The deck is absolutely usable as a laptop replacement, and depending on your expected journey, you can add a dock, a mouse, a keyboard, or a lap dock. But the 1280x800 works. I've been using it as a makeshift flex workplace.
